This was one of the worst bar experiences of my life. I regularly go to speakeasies and cocktail bars, most with a classier atmosphere than Under the Boot, and at every one of them ever, even those with a dress code requiring formal wear, I've always been permitted to wear my cowboy hat, which I wear everywhere.
I assumed that of all places that the bar connected to Boots & Bones would not only permit but encourage cowboy hats. And it seemed so at first. There were several girls there with cowgirl hats, some of whom I took pictures for or with.
I wore my own hat inside for over an hour and a half without incident. Then, utterly out of the blue, a bouncer came around to me and multiple groups of girls with cowgirl hats, insisting that they take them off, and forcibly removing anyone who didn't comply quickly enough to his liking.
I was with a group of about eight other people, all of whom I had brought. They followed me out, and we saw several other groups leave at the same time due to the sudden enforcement of the hat policy.
This is a bar that clearly despises its patrons and is not interested in retaining them as repeat customers. I had initially been planning a birthday party their with a large group, but now I'll never return and will adamantly discourage anyone I know from ever going to Under the Boot.
