Totally relied on the Yelp app, and it's times like this that I'm happy I do. I was headed down Colfax to meet up with a group for brunch, and had some time to kill and thought a coffee shop was the right choice. I wouldn't have thought to pop in a few blocks, but true to the pretty little map pointer, I was led directly to a quaint coffee shop on 12th.
You'll notice on the way up that there's a display window, with two big, plush chairs in it. Clearly this spot was not intended to be a coffee shop at first (or if it was, kudos on atypical design) so the format is a little weird. You walk in and to the right there's a children's area. In the main seating area you find a mixture of comfy seats and more spartan chairs. At the back counter, you belly up to make your order, and then back up on the adjacent counter to receive your selections.
The display case was out of order on my visit, but I asked a few questions and settled on a chocolate croissant for my pre-brunch pregame. Of course you must accompany that with a hot chocolate in order to complete the chocolate double play.
Both were nice, but I have opposing criticisms. The hot chocolate could have been a bit more chocolatey--it was a little soft. And the croissant was a little too stuffed with a deep, rich chocolate. These are really minor quibbles, however. I was still pleased, and by the time I left I was buzzing with sugar.
