The owner is one of a kind! I didn't get to talk to his wife/owner but I really enjoyed talking to him. I came in specifically for 1 beer and it did not disappoint. He makes sure he has a beer for everyones taste and likes. He cares about the customer! He told me they are known for their peanut butter beers which is what I went there for ironically. Inside is CLEAN! Comfortable bar stools with thick cushions.

This brewery is more than just a place to grab a great beer—it’s a second home. The quality of the brews speaks for itself: fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with passion and precision. Whether you’re into crisp lagers, hoppy IPAs, or something creative and seasonal, there’s always something worth savoring on tap. What really sets this place apart, though, are the owners— Edward and Martha 💕. I’m lucky to call them friends, and it shows in everything they do—from remembering your name, your history to making every visitor feel like part of the family. Their warmth and dedication create a welcoming atmosphere that keeps you coming back, pint after pint. If you’re looking for exceptional beer and even better people, this is where you want to be. Cheers to community, craft, and connection.

I visited Unexpected Craft Brewing Company yesterday evening and was thoroughly impressed by the experience. Their coffee peanut butter stout was an absolute standout—rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced with bold coffee notes and a creamy peanut butter finish that lingered just right. The raspberry lager was equally delightful, offering a crisp, refreshing taste with a vibrant fruitiness that wasn’t overly sweet. The taproom’s atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a cozy yet modern vibe that made it easy to settle in and enjoy. The owners were incredibly friendly, taking the time to chat with their patrons. Unexpected Craft Brewing is a gem in Oak Park worth checking out for anyone who appreciates unique, well-crafted beers and a welcoming environment. I’ll definitely be back!

#33 in the Metro Detroit Brewery Discovery Tour. Walked over from a nearby brewery (after the movie finished). I needed food and wanted to try another brewer's offerings. Met the owner and found that he always has stouts on tap as it is his favorite style. Yes! I went for a flight of 5, though in all honesty, one was a porter. They all were tasty and to an extent, dry in the finish. The place is nice, family friendly, open and easily navigated by those in wheelchairs. Parking in the rear and smooth concrete floor throughout. It's a nice place to relax with a pint or three. I also ordered a Tania's pizza because one must eat when imbibing. A decent pizza but nothing spectacular. Reminds me of a pasty.

Stopped at Unexpected Craft Brewing for the first time. Nice place with plenty of room, even an outdoor patio. I had the peanut butter chocolate stencil stout which was really good, then the "ale-yes" imperial dry hopped ale. Also really good but the dry hop character had muted a little in this last keg that the master brewer said was 5 mo old now. Had a pleasant visit here, and I will be back to try more of their brews.

Google
People! When I say that “Unexpected” is the perfect name for this hip, unassuming brewery… it’s no joke. I opted for a flight on the lighter side and seriously could not pick a favorite. They were all amazing (see pic). My husband chose stouts and every one of them knocked it out of the park! Do not sleep on this brewery. It’s laid back with fantastic beer and a chill vibe. Go for the beer and come back for, well, the beer!

Google
Awesome new brewery to me! Plenty of room and nice bar. The owner was very nice and even more accommodating!. Finally a brewery that even offered! Stouts on tap or even in a bottle. I always beg breweries to always keep a monster of a barrel aged stout on or in the works! And UcBc came through! As I was able to get a Dark Gobbler sealed in wax! It sounds incredible( BA aged 2 yrs) and the other 3 stouts I tried were absolutely delicious- bigg chocolate and deep coffee notes- hope to get a tshirt that looks like the ucbc logo in the brewery. There is also food available and karaoke on Friday when I went. Definitely worth the stop- especially just for the stouts 🔥 🍻

Google
This brewery is walking distance from my brother's place so we had to try it out. They offer a large selection of beers and a flight is a great way to try a few of them out. The place is clean and the elements in the decor was a nice touch. They offer food though we only stopped in for some drinks.

Yelp
I have been stopping in since they were in Royal Oak. This is a brewery that should be collecting beer competition awards, especially in their stouts and BA selections. The new location has a lot of parking and ample seating inside. The taproom is very clean and I like the layout. Service is great and the owners/staff are very friendly. I stop in whenever I am in Oak Park and I look forward to my next visit.

Yelp
Great place for beers and trivia! Love that it's within walking distance of my house. I go here almost weekly and the service is always quick and friendly. The beer is good, though I wish they had more variety with lighter beers (my wife only really likes sours and they usually only have 1 on tap). I'm not really sure what's going on with the food situation, but they usually either have a food truck or allow food from the outside, so it's not a problem with a bit of planning.

Yelp
Cannot wait to return with friends! It's a lovey space, with ample free parking out back. A nice outdoor seating area is fenced it out back as well. We chose one of several seating options within. Long tables, or small tables are available for a group or Jim it's a twosome. A couple TVs, but only one was on and the volume was (blessedly) down! Interesting craft brews on tap. Chose a flight of dark beers. Price point on these is about $20-$25 for four 4 ounce pours. They came with a 4 oz. Glass of mini pretzels. I'm not sure if there's a functioning kitchen, however there is a food truck that serves outside during the week. The vibe was friendly and relaxed on this particular afternoon. We look forward to returning soon with friends.

Yelp
We stopped in here after soccer practice and I was a bit confused by other reviews but there is not food available there only a food truck outside . Totally fine by ya, just trying to clarify for future visitors - the slider truck was really tasty! The beers were good and they do trivia on Wednesdays!

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place, but I just found the beers lacking flavor and unexciting. The name works well, as it was unexpected that I would dislike this place

Yelp
Friendly staff (one of which was brewer). He was obviously very knowledgeable about the beer so that was awesome. Patio for dogs if you want to bring pets. You have to go in to order though. Nice and open- got busy and it was hard to check out- and think everyone is getting used to things. Tasting flights available for $15. Flavors are bold and as brewer said "you like it or not." Plenty of swag available for purchase and growlers to go! It's in the new Oak Park "area" for wandering and drinking so you can hit dog and Pony and or Oak Park social. They plan to have pizza, pretzels, and nachos. They also plan on getting online ordering system for grabbing your drink! Kolsches my fave! Regular and coconut! Oddly (since not my thing) really liked peanut butter porter also. Nice that Oak Park finally has spaces like this and is making it easy for people to enjoy them!

Yelp
Stopped here after the Tour Detroit Bike ride for a flight and some food. Unfortunately they just had bagged snacks but fortunately they had fantastic craft beer. Not a bad or average beer on the flight. We also were able to get a pizza from Cat Zaddy's pop up kitchen near the back of the brewery. Free rear lot parking. Bar/low/high top seating. Wifi. Clean. No table service. Order your flights at the bar and take them to your table. no table service and no kitchen should knock it down a star but it is really about the beer right? I would return to try some more of their great craft beer.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped in during a brewery tour for our wedding anniversary. We went to 25 over 3 days and Unexpected was by far our favorite. We will definitely stop back if in the area!

Yelp
This is for their 'soft opening.' This is a very nicely rebuilt industrial space in the repurposed Oak Park industrial strip which also contains the cocktail bar and other brewery in a combined social district where you can wander with booze. Huge shared free parking lot. Patio. They do not yet have but are planning Pizza/pretzels/snacks from a kitchen area. They will aso schedule food trucks outside. Great friendly staff and brewer. Great beer selection boards. They will add table service and games later. 18 beers on tap. 5 of them are awesome, 8ish more are good. The rest are not good. The pils in particular tastes like garbage.

Yelp
Friendly easy going neighborhood bar. We enjoy stopping in and appreciate the crowd.

Yelp
Love the beer, the service, and the atmosphere. Their menu always has a nice variety, including some big beers. The local scene is also booming if you want to bounce around.

Yelp
We were in the area and I needed this tag so we stopped in for a really quick one and done. I really loved the atmosphere here and the beer I chose was incredible. My understanding is that they have incredible beers year round. I am sure we will be stopping in here again when we are in the area. It is a great spot! They participated in hop passport so we got 50% off our first two drinks. Definitely check it out when you're in the area!

Yelp
A Brewer that KNOWS how to Brew! Great bar. Great Atmosphere. Great staff. But most of all, great BEER. I go to microbreweries for beer, and man am I glad I went to this one! The co-owner, Lalo, has a wide assortment of beer that tastes the way the description says it tastes. If you want a good Pilsner, go here. If you want a good Oktoberfest beer, go here. If you want a good fruity beer, go here. But if you're looking for an awesome stout, you gotta go here! Wide assortment of great beers. Really glad we stumbled across this place, and then a few hours later, stumbled out of this place. Definitely coming back to this bar every time we're in the area. Thanks Lalo!

Yelp
For the record, I love beer and checking out new breweries is a favorite hobby of mine. UCBC knocked it out of the park tonight! I was so impressed by the large selection of beers on tap and each absolutely fantastic. I ended up ordering a flight and the Peanut Butter Chocolate Stencil Stout was my favorite. It was hard to decide on a favorite, but the flavor and smoothness of this stout is like nothing I've ever tried before. I enjoyed talking to the owner and learning more about this awesome brewery. They also participate in the TagaBrew. I was excited to find out that they actually had some old tags from their previous Brewery River Rouge. So I was able to walk out with some awesome stickers and two brand new shiny tags. It was a fantastic night and I can't wait to come back

Yelp
Finally got to enjoy some of there yummy beers opening weekend! Easy parking out back, walking in the back door to a wide open space with bar, table and some community seating! (There is a front door also) Walk up to the bar to get served, the two bartenders we dealt with were both excited to be open! Ordered a flight and honestly enjoyed everything! We had a orange saison, coconut kolsh, raspberry lager, chocolate peanut butter stout, and shandy! My mom who is always willing to try beer with me actually loved the coconut kolsch and shandy! They have a food truck schedule and then some snacks for sale at the counter! I can't wait to see what other cool flavors they come out with next because I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Great aesthetic, beers had solid initial taste but taps were warm and made the beer underwhelming. Would be okay for occasional beer but wouldn't stay for many.

Rob B.

Yelp
Several nice IPAs, great peanut butter stout, owners are very friendly and knowledgeable.

Yelp
This was a surprisingly good spot - huge beer selection, and huge dark beer selection, which was a real treat. I think my one point of annoyance was related to their mention of it being dog friendly on the patio, and pictures all over the website of heaters outside on the patio. On our recent trip, it was quite cold and the heaters were missing entirely. Not sure what the deal was there, or where they were, but there were two groups of us just trying to drink quickly and leave, as we had brought dogs. A bit of a disappointment. Otherwise, quite enjoyed the beer options and would certainly give it another shot in warmer weather.

Yelp
I really hate giving negative reviews but this place was a little disappointing as an avid beer drinker. Service, people, location were all great. But the beer itself, watery and extremely sweet. Not a place for people who love craft beer! I got a flight and each beer tasted like diluted sweet syrup.
google avatar

Ray B.

Yelp
Basically underwhelmed. Our beer selections were rather flat/ my buddy returned his as it wasn't that good. And the food - since it is outsourced, they have little control so it is a jump ball. That night the vender was having technical difficulties and the food took forever and wasn't that special. That said, the place was full - they have their fans that have landed on their picks, so there is hope, but with so much competition I don't see going back again.

Jeremy H.

Yelp
The beer is unequivocally bussin. I have never been to a brewery where I like all the beers, until I came here. They have such a large beer menu for the size. The service is great. The ambiance is great.

Miranda S.

Yelp
Loved the wide array of beer options, a flight was the best way to try everything I wanted! Nice layout of bar and seating, with a huge projector in front of the brewing equipment. Perfect to watch the big game or hangout with friends. Can't wait to come back and try more of their beer selection!

Gordie S.

Yelp
First Brewery in Royal Oak and now the First in Oak Park with the best and most diverse selection in fresh brewed beer. I have been visiting UCBC since the first week of opening and they have the brews! When they say flavor its there and this comes from a dedicated brew-master that really loves the art. UCBC has something for every style of beer and flavored hard seltzer water.

Yelp
Great beers on tap and awesome pizza. Ate outside on the patio. This used to be the old River Rouge that was in Royal Oak and relocated to Oak Park in a much bigger venue. Definitely will go back. Walking distance from my daughter and son in laws place

Jared P.

Yelp
Quite possibly my favorite place to grab a beer. The owners are really invested in the success of this place as you'll often find them behind the counter serving beers. There is always a good variety of of types of beers from lagers, IPAs, sours, stouts and porters -- and they are all good. The Peanut Butter Stencil Stout is one of my favorite beers of all time and it's always on tap. Great, friendly service too. They also welcome in food trucks out back throughout the week.

Katie Y.

Yelp
Beer and atmosphere was great! However I would NOT recommend ordering the $12 pepperoni frozen pizza. Took the family there for pizza and games. The kids wouldn't even eat the pizza. The soft pretzels were good though.
