Stopped by Uni Sushi for dinner last month as my husband and I were both getting over the flu. Most of the place was empty on a Friday night, which probably should have been a warning sign, but we wanted to try it before we left to get dessert. Both of us ordered the sushi omakase, each of which is 12 pieces of chef's choice sushi, and then we also got one of the rolls to split.
The miso soup that came out first was nice and hot, which was great for a chilly day, but that was probably the best part of the meal. The sushi omakase is huge, and we thought we would each get 12 different pieces of sushi, but we actually got 2 each of 6 different types of fish. I wish someone would have said something about that after we ordered, because if we'd known, we would've just gotten one set and tried something else on the menu. Each nigiri was gigantic -- I'd say almost double the size of some other sushi places in the area, and the fish slices were also portioned accordingly. My favorite bite was probably the eel, because it was nice and fatty with a good char and flavorful sauce, but most of the other pieces of fish tasted about the same as each other, flavor wise and texturally, which is not great when things like tuna and salmon probably should taste different even without sauce. The sushi rice here was also flavorless and pretty mushy; by the end of the meal when I was starting to get full, I ended up skipping the rice entirely and just eating the fish on top. The roll we got was pretty big but just tasted alright as well. We weren't convinced that the crab inside was real; even if it wasn't imitation, the fact that it was too hard to tell is also not great.
The employees were all super nice and came by periodically to check up on us, but considering there are many other good sushi joints in the area, I probably will not be back.
