H Street Book Store’s Boozy New Cafe Is Nearly Here - Eater DC

"Expansion-minded Union Kitchen Grocery is super active in the city as of late, planning to plant a brick-and-mortar location in Shaw this fall that will replace the recently shuttered Glen’s Garden Market. UKG‘s original location near Union Station (538 Third Street NE) debuted in May 2015. A second one twice the size of the flagship store landed inside the Walter E. Washington Convention Center last year." - Tierney Plumb

Union kitchen is awesome. They have a fantastic collection of healthy, delicious local foods, particularly snacks! Their sandwiches and coffee are excellent and consistent, but the best part of Union is the people! Everyone is always genuine, friendly, and nice when I come in. Jordan helped me out recently, and Chris made us some awesome sandwiches. Union has been a life saver for odds & ends, too— sometimes I’ve run into the store to get a card or a thing of aluminum foil, and they always have what I need. It’s one of my favorite places to get coffee because it’s tasty and my day is always a little better after chatting with the folks in the store.

The Latte is very good. When you asked for “light on ice”, they fill it with milk instead of water. The taste was silky. Also breakfast sandwiches are worth it, not very big but has well integrated flavors.

Amazing people and store! Coffee was the best in the area we stayed! Charles and Alexis always had a smile on their face and greeted us as soon as we walked in! Store was clean, professional and very inviting! Thankful for this place and this staff that supplied amazing caffeine and treats for us during our DC stay! You’ll always have a friend in South Carolina!

Great spot to drop in for a coffee or emergency groceries! They don't have everything and what they do have is expensive, but they usually have eggs and basics like that. Lots of gourmet snacks. And wine! My only complaint is that they're often sold out of oat milk. I've tried the sunflower milk they stock and it's not my fave. Pretty cramped inside but they have a great patio in the warmer months. Right now they set up a little bistro table inside since it's so cold out. I love dogs but I am grateful that dogs stay outside so they're not mixed up with the food. There is a doggy "parking spot" right outside the door.

How hardcore could a specialty shop get you ask? The best way to find out is by giving this shop a visit. With unique brands, a welcoming atmosphere and fire finds, add this to your list of to dos next time you're out and about in the city. Cheers and tacos.

Title: Adorable Coffee & Sandwich Spot — The Highlight of My DC Trip! We stumbled upon this adorable little coffee, sandwich, and grocery spot and it instantly became the highlight of our trip to DC. The place has a warm, neighborhood feel — cozy seating, friendly staff, and a charming aesthetic that makes you want to linger. The coffee was excellent: perfectly brewed and full of flavor. The sandwiches were fresh, well-crafted, and clearly made with quality ingredients — the perfect combo for a quick bite or a relaxed lunch. I also loved browsing the small grocery selection for local snacks and treats. Service was welcoming and personal, and the prices felt fair for the quality. Whether you’re starting your day, taking a break between sightseeing, or picking up something tasty to-go, this spot is a must-visit. Highly recommend!

As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the smiling faces of Toni & Kristen. I ordered a cookie, that tastes amazing & my fav cold-weatehr drink, Chai Latte. I'm glad we have a 3rd St Union Kitchen!
