Union Pizzeria - Evanston SPACE

We love Union Pizzeria! We are always able to grab a spot at the bar or lounge area and the service is still 10/10. They have the best pizza in town and their pastas and salads are delicious as well. They have two local beers rotating on tap and a few craft cocktails that pair nicely with any dish. Our favorites are the meatballs, Ligurian chopped salad, and pepperoni and sausage pizza.

It was my first time going out in 15 years, and I had a husband and wife force themselves in front of me. This was very rude. This wife acted in a very mean and ugly manner, and after being asked to leave the restaurant, she refused to do so. Then a random customer offered to buy me a drink, I politely declined since I have my own money and finally got a seat at the bar where I ordered shrimp and cauliflower. It was very good, however, I felt that the women here were very rude and ugly to me. I complained to the manager that I was not enjoying my time, and she apologized, but suggested that I have a free bottle wine as a remedy. As a result, I felt she cared and was empathic towards my feelings and tried to correct the rude behavior of her customers. I highly recommend this place because of the manager that spoke with me this evening.

Good simple tasty food except sausage in fig in bacon. Pizza crust was not good, but sauce was delicious and natural.

This place is an absolute gem!! The atmosphere, the staff and the FOOD!! Great menu with big varieties in food and drinks. Amazing place in Evanston, will come back surely :)

We ordered three different bases. Walnut & parmesan pesto, bechamel sauce, and tomato sauce pizza. We thought the traditional red sauce pizza was good. We felt the bechamel sauce was yummy but missing quantity and felt similarly about the pesto. Still, the pizza all earned at least one favorite. Lastly, their bread pudding is incredible.

What a find! Great food (pizzas, pasta & salad), drinks, staff and atmosphere. We were visiting from out of town but are definitely planning on coming back next time we are in the area. The sausage and hot honey pizza with arugula was a must-try!

The food is always spot on, whether it's a wood fired pizza or a perfectly grilled fish, or eggplant copanata to start. Cocktails, wines and beers are excellent. The decor is upscale hipster. I always feel like the cool kid when I eat here... And I'm pushing 50.

Went for our anniversary dinner last night and it was wonderful. I had the wild mushroom pizza and ohmygosh it was so delicious. Our server Henry was absolutely fantastic. Definitely may make a trip to town in the future just for pizza :)

Union Pizzeria is one of the best restaurants in Evanston -- I don't understand why this place doesn't have 4 stars or higher. The service is always great, the food is fantastic, and the setting is lively every night of the week. Henry is my favorite server and is just so kind and attentive. The best items on the menu (and I've tried lots!) are the dates, meatballs, 3 seed salad, and prosciutto and arugula pizza -- it's absolutely amazing. There's also a delicious pizza with ricotta and sausage which is really good too. Nothing not to like about Union -- it has and will continue to be a staple for me in Evanston!

First off, parking is challenging around here and be sure to make a reservation if you can because on a Friday evening, the wait time for walk-ins was around 45 minutes when we got there. Thank goodness I had a reservation, and they seated us right away! I got excited by the guava in the one-two punch cocktail, but I thought it was a bit too tart for my preference. I ordered the dates for an appetizer, and those were delicious. I wish they provided bread with it because the sauce is so delicious. I LOVE cacio e pepe, so I order it anytime I see it on a menu. Theirs was good, but I thought it was a bit on the salty side, however delicious nonetheless. I saw that the lamb sausage pizza is one of their popular items, so I also ordered that. I missed that it has olives, and I was already kinda nervous about the eggplant. The lamb sausage pizza is okay. The lamb flavor isn't prominent in the sausage, and I thought the olives were overpowering. I tried a slice of my husband's bacon and shrimp pizza. It's a lovely mix of salty, sweet, and spicy from the raw jalapeños. Be aware - they don't remove the seeds from the jalapeños!

Best pizza. I really like it. It's well done. I will definitely order from here again.

I got the sausage and sweet peppers pizza to go and I think getting it to-go was my (rookie) mistake. You can't really get wood fired neopolitan pizza to go - you have to eat it there. It was ready on time and I sat at the bar because I was early and the inside of the place is nice and trendy, but I really should have dined in. Not the most flavorful pizza in the world either, though.

Returned knowing the pizzas are fabulous. They didn't disappoint. Service is excellent

We arrived at 5:15 on a Saturday night and Union Pizzeria was already hopping. We were able to get a seat at the end of the bar, which worked great. Union hit all the right notes on our first visit - great atmosphere, helpful, friendly staff, amazing food and drink. To start, I ordered a Campfire Old Fashioned. Slight sweetness followed by a bit of smoke. Aptly named drink. We shared the kale and cauliflower appetizer- can't recall it's official name. The bartender recommended it and he was spot on. Delicious! Next we shared the prosciutto arugula pizza, another winning dish. Union is a bit on the pricier side, but everything we ate was delightful. I'll come back for sure on a future trip to Evanston.

The food was great and the service fast! Salads were fresh, especially the 3 seed salad. Small plate of grilled shrimp and grits was scrumptious and the veggie pizza with vegan cheese could not have been crispier or tastier. It was a bit loud but worth the noise!

So YUMMY! love the unique selection of pizzas, best caesar salad, and fun atmosphere. The best restaurant in Evanston.

Just insanely good, every time. The only negative I can say is it's a bit loud for people who don't like that. Doesn't bother us at all. We love the ambience, the service is great, the drinks are great. The food is outstanding. There's nothing negative to say.

Mussel Up Here! A friend recommended the mussels at Union. My wife and I arrived at 5 pm sharp on Saturday -- the place was packed and we were lucky to get two seats at the bar. It took a while to get our food but watching the bartenders work so hard helped the time go by. And worth the wait -- the broth the mussels were cooked in was creamy, buttery, spicy and tangy, included 3 pieces of toast to soak it up with. I took half of 'em home, ate the rest for breakfast!

I love this locale. Great food and service. The atmosphere is open floor with huge glass windows that sets up a nice vibe.

I was excited to try Union Pizzeria because it's always packed when I walk past it, but it didn't live up to my expectations :( We ordered the Octopus & Potato small plate and the Lamb Sausage pizza as per our waiter's recommendation. The octopus was tender, and the potatoes were well-cooked, but the dish was nothing special. We also couldn't finish most of our pizza because it was too salty and oily, not to mention the cheese was hard?? I admit the dough was good--very soft and chewy--but it's not enough to get me to return.

Great pizza! I got the deep dish basil & mozzarella & oh my!!! Everything about it was wonderful. Highly recommend!

If you're longing for Detroit style pizza this is the place! Great caramelized crust. Delicious sauce & toppings.

Great pizza, wonderful drink selection, and service was on point. The best part was it was part of the Space music venue.

Cool wood fired pizza oven visible from the dining room. Nice crisp crusts. Each pizza will easily feed 2 people. Our table of 4 shared a kale salad and a cauliflower and kale appetizer, the 2 pizzas. There were 4 pieces of pizza leftover. We had a mushroom and a spinach ricotta. The spinach ricotta was my favorite. Nice atmosphere. Gorgeous ceiling.

Union has amazing food, not just the pizzas. The roasted broccoli burrata appetizer with bagna cauda is outstanding. Atmosphere is one of the best in Evanston, casual but also swanky. The large bar is a great space to have a drink and eat, and the bartenders are fabulous--great friendly service!

Just got back from eating a very uncomfortable dinner here. Food was great but the staff certainly made my family & myself feel unwelcome. I get it, we have kids & we're not your ideal customers. Feels great to be glared at by staff throughout your meal.

Super friendly servers and great atmosphere, but pizza was underwhelming. We ordered the shrimp and bacon pizza, which was not particularly generous in toppings or cheese, so the flavor was just a bit bland. The calamari with focaccia was tasty, but also not a substantial portion. There are better and cheaper options for pizza. Dined: October 21, 2022

Best hot out of the oven pizza. We love the mushroom pizza. The salads and seasonal cocktails are always spot on as well as the service.

Really solid Evanston spot! Loved the calamari, sausage and sweet pepper pizza and the chicken. Wish menu had a bit more options for those who can't tolerate too much dairy. But Union has cool ambiance and I can't wait to check out more dishes.

So, one week after stopping in a local pizza place and having an odd night of terrible service and pretty bad pizza I find myself here. As I settle down for a drink and a mushroom (trying to do the vegetarian / vegan thing) pizza, I catch myself thinking about that! Stranger in a strange land...I only thought about it for a minute! This is a drastic difference to what I experienced last week. Far more of what I have always come to expect from a local pizzeria! Sat at the bar, got some great service. Ordered my mushroom pizza, light on the cheese but hopefully not flavor, and drank my drink. This is a nice room. Beautiful art work and warm and welcoming feel. The Staff is friendly, bar service was great..even on a Friday night with no TV showing sports I was totally OK. People were nice, attentive and the food came out fast, as it should at a thin crust, wood-fired oven type of place! The pizza was very good! The crust was light, had a nice crunch and a soft chew. The sauces was nice and light...a white sauce but not heavy, very good fresh mushrooms and just the right amount of cheese! Lots of flavor, a nice chew and what a hand crust pizza should be..a little char to the crust! I took this back to my room and had a nice snack later that night! This is the type of place I will absolutely come back to and hopefully often. Very inviting spot and food that leaves you feeling like you spent your money in the right way! KT

great vibe, food, drinks. The neighborhood is full of aggressive panhandling, but Union has incorporated clear signage to discourage the intimidation by vagrants that is experienced at nearby businesses.

Fantastic place with wonderful ambiance and menu selection. The cocktails were fantastic and the waiter made some great recommendations. Serve was efficient without making us feel rushed. The date appetizer was delicious and I'm not even a fan of dates! Can be a little loud so if you have older people in your party it might be difficult for them. Also not the most wheelchair friendly location. Highly recommend the Quattro frommage pizza. Parking can be hard to find.

I bookmarked Union Pizza for months and finally made a visit in February. We arrived on a weekend at opening and, in hindsight, it was a good move. This place gets packed around dinner time and I didn't feel like waiting around for a seat. Since it was empty, we were able to get prime seating and full attention from the staff. We ordered drinks and started with their Sicilian Shrimp and Grits plus a Meatball appetizer. Between the two, I really enjoyed the shrimp and grits. The fresh shrimp was plump and the grits were creamy and packed with flavor. I was not a fan of their meatball appetizer. Sadly the meatballs were dry and tasteless. The meatballs came with a mango salsa which would've paired better with marinara. The Prosciutto and Arugula Pizza was our main entrée. It was big enough to feed two and we finished with only a couple of slices left over. A bit pricey at $18.00 but it was good. Street parking is spotty but if you come on a Sunday, the public parking garage across the street is free. The food, ambiance, and experience were memorable and I wouldn't mind returning to try other things on their menu.

Really welcoming space with comfy couches up front while you wait for a table or a good spot to grab a drink. Large restaurant space where there's room between tables so you can enjoy easy dinner conversation. Their salad menu offered some delicious options. We chose a chopped salad and a brussels sprout and apple salad. Both were standouts and 2 small salads were plenty to share with 4 people. Their pizza menu was very interesting and we were able to tweak the ingredients a bit to meet some dietary restrictions. The lamb sausage pizza was the winner of the night. So delicious, in fact, a 2nd one got ordered! The bar offered some good bourbons and interesting cocktails that kept our party of 4 very happy. Union Pizza has a beautiful space with attentive, friendly service and delicious food!

Very good food with a very nice patio in the back. The staff are quick and helpful. The patio is eliminated at night with very peaceful lighting.

Wow. I wanted to love this place. Gave it 4 tries but I can't relinquish more than 2 stars here. The staff here are cool, but the food just isn't good. Had the Rosemary Chicken, not hitting at all. Had the Polenta Pound Cake, it was passable. On the other occasions that I've visited this place I've left uninspired as well. The clientele is 99.9% white, so this place gets an "F" for diversity.

She made that decision without taking into account the information I provided 3) Obviously it's not about the money because I didn't request a refund of $50 for the burnt pizzas. It's the gross display of ignorance and superiority. If you had 120 orders that you bragged about - why not Do the Right Thing with 1. Mistakes happen but arrogance is unforgiving 4) Yelpers - decide if you want to frequent a restaurant owned by someone gaslighting. "Physical harm" "verbally abusive" all triggers from "Karen's" I admitted to the name calling and wanting to return - see my initial post however AFTER her attacks on my character that she continues to post - see her update.

Best salmon and best burger and best every single thing you might order. Pricey but worth every penny. Totally fun atmosphere. Every time we go, we have always had a great evening.

This is more that a pizza place. It is a really nice neighborhood restaurant and bar, connected to a live performance venue. The city has a few local gems and We are fortunate to have such a high quality one in Evanston.

My favorite pizza place in Evanston! The arugula and prosciutto pizza never misses. The restaurant has such a cozy feeling inside adding to it!

I'm so glad I decided to join my friend at Union Pizzeria. I love the vibe this place gives! By the name, I'm pretty sure they are famous for their pizza, which I will definitely try next time I visit. My friend and I started with bruschetta which was not your typical bruschetta. The focaccia bread was topped with robiola cheese, shaved summer squash & fennel, torn herbs. It was fresh and delicious. The Eggplant Caponata & Crostini was absolutely wonderful. I would spread that sautéed eggplant, celery, onion, whole peeled tomato, garlic, green olives, capers & crushed tomatoes dip on any bread, anytime. I thought the Village salad was too minty. I'd order it next time without the mint. My Turkey Milanese sandwich with calabrian aioli, cilantro slaw, pickled jalepeño on toasted ciabatta was devine. I'm not a cilantro fan, but it made this sandwich. My friend had the Sicilian Spicy Creole Shrimp and Grits which she loved. She said it was creamy and is one of the best shrimp & grits she's had. The staff were very friendly and VERY attentive. My water glass was never half filled at anytime. Yes, I would definitely come back!

Great food and service! Staff are friendly and attentive! Pizza is very good with an excellent crust! Visited several times and had dinner and drinks before concerts at S.P.A.C.E. Reservation for dinner made ahead so plenty of time to eat before the shows! Great atmosphere!

This was a great find. We decided to go see Chicago Jazz Orchestra at Space the other night and showed up early to grab a cocktail and a bite. I was not expecting the food we got. If you are going to an event go early and enjoy. Even if you are not goi got an event go enjoy Octopus- cooked perfectly, and enough to share White anchovies pizza- this was a hit, I had to convince friends to try but it was absolutely amazing. Drinks were flavorful and stiff. Service was beyond on point.

I've heard great things about this place, so after living in Evanston for 3 years we finally went. I have to say, just like most Evanston restaurants, it did not fail to disappoint me. We ordered the sausage and pepperoni pizza and it was barely one step up from a frozen pizza I could get from the grocery store, and 4 times to price. I don't get it. The bread was bad as well. And don't get me started on the seats. Although I was able to sit in a comfortable booth, the chairs they provide are horrible uncomfortable hard, cheap ones that look like the ones that used to be at Fountain square. Clearly, they have no desire to keep their patrons comfortable. I will not be going back here again. I don't get the hype. Maybe the other food is good, but the pizza is not, that's for sure.

What a fun resturant. We are in the dining room, but the window seats what they call the living room looked like a lot of fun. We were in town for a concert next door at Space so it made since to eat at Union. My pizza was delicious and large enough for leftovers... I ate some when we got back after the show ans still had a price for breakfast! Service was fast and attentive!

We had a large group, everyone found something on the menu they wanted and all of us enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Noise level was not too loud even though all tables were full. Food came promptly and it was delicious.

The Detroit style pizza is a nice treat for Dad. Kids prefer the thin style. The last time we went they only served the Detroit style. We'd go more often if they served both thin and Detroit styles.

I had an exceptional time at Union Pizzeria. Starting off with tasty cocktails, then appetizers aplenty. We shared our food family style, so that way we could really enjoy the full menu and everything the chef had to offer. I highly recommend ordering this way here. Service was great, the building is very comfortable and with a large wood fired pizza oven out where you can watch, very entertaining as well.
