UNION Restaurant

This place absolutely blew me away. For starters we tried the mussels with french fries and aioli dip, pumpkin bisque, and the maple oatmeal bread with maple brown butter. Every single bite was perfection. For our entrees, the mushroom tagliatelle, and veal ragù were rich, flavorful, and beautifully plated. We topped it all off with some Walnut Block wine, pure heaven! It was my first time in Maine, and fell in love. The food, the flavors, the ambience, everything was incredible. Watching the chefs work in the open kitchen felt like being part of a live Netflix cooking show. I’m officially obsessed.

Loved the ambience, with printing press decor touches, at this restaurant. Food tasted fairly good. Service was prompt and courteous. We went for both dinner and breakfast. Staying at the Press hotel, this was a convenient eatery.

The food itself was acceptable; however, the portion sizes were notably insufficient given the higher-end pricing. For example, receiving only two pieces of duck breast for $39 was extremely underwhelming. Additionally, one of the veal gnocchi dishes was served without the veal. While the staff did acknowledge the mistake and provide a replacement, it arrived after the rest of the table had nearly finished eating, which significantly detracted from the experience. The cod was also disappointing, as it was rubbery and difficult to cut, requiring considerable effort to eat. Service further diminished the overall experience. While our server was attentive in clearing plates and refilling drinks, her demeanor was curt and unwelcoming. She appeared disengaged and unwilling to accommodate reasonable requests, including any flexibility with portion sizes given our party. She also declined to take appetizer orders unless entrees were ordered simultaneously, which felt unnecessarily restrictive. Overall, the experience was unsatisfying for everyone at our table. Union did not meet the expectations of a higher-end dining establishment, and it is not a venue I would recommend.

We had the cod and steak. I didn’t feel the taste before I added the vegetables and the pumpkin on my fork and then booom! It was gooooood!Steak was exactly what my partner expected and yummy! The serving was on the small side.

We tried this restaurant before a show a Merrill Auditorium. First, it has a great atmosphere and location. Very trendy and upscale. We sat at the bar because we didn't have reservations. We ordered several cocktails which all tasted great. However, the two bar tenders were working the whole restaurant and seemed very overwhelmed. It took a long time to get their attention on several occasions. We ordered raw oysters which tasted fine but many of them had little bits of shell inside, poor shucking. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger with duck egg, which tasted great! However, we waited well over an hour for our meals and were 20 minutes late to our show, despite being assured by the waitstaff that our meals would be out in plenty of time. Overall, I was pretty disappointed considering how expensive it was... Hopefully this was just an off night... We will be back to give it another try. The prix fixe menu looks great and I want to try it when we're not under time constraints.

So looking for a restaurant opened on Christmas night was not easy but we found this Union. We even got there as the restaurant was closing, and they took us in. Extra stars for that. The hostess was nice and welcoming. We ordered potato croquettes flavorless, Trout flavorless, half Chicken flavorless and 2 Apple pie sangria decent. $130 later definitely not returning

Union Restaurant in Portland is an absolute standout. The lobster Benedict is unreal—pillowy eggs over a heap of sweet Maine lobster with silky hollandaise. Cocktails are smart, balanced, and downright fun. And the staff? So nice and genuinely great—attentive without hovering and happy to help. A must-visit; I’m already planning my return.

We visited with a group of 10 for brunch, and while the location and ambiance are beautiful, the experience fell short. Unfortunately, almost everyone in our party was disappointed with their food. The service was also inconsistent. It’s a lovely spot, but the kitchen and service really need to step it up to match the atmosphere.
