As a Chef myself, I know how tough kitchen work can be, and I truly want to thank the team behind the scenes. The food was absolutely delicious, 20/10! Special thanks to Peter, our server, who was kind, professional, and made the experience even better. Excellent service all around. I’ll definitely be coming back! THANK YOU! 😁🙏🏻🍽️🥂

Google
Great except for the young girl that was playing “host”. She let us know she was not happy about our arrival so close to closing. 🙃 She had this face 👉🏼🙄😑 We sat, ordered and ate anyway! 😂😜🤷🏽‍♀️✊🏽 we both had lasagna bolognese. It was good! A great portion for one person. The only down side was that it didn’t come with any bread nor salad. 😩🤧 I also ordered an Old Fashioned. 🥃. It was good too! Not watered down at all. 💃 💯 I’ll be back!

One of my favorite bars in Alexandria. Awesome history. Great atmosphere, staff, food, and drinks. Tim in the Whiskey Bar is one of the best bartenders: helps craft drinks to fit every taste. He’s half the reason I show up every weekend.

The food was good and the service was also very pleasant. Especially soup was perfect Overall, a nice dining experience.

Located in the heart of Alexandria’s Old Town, Union Street Pub has been a long-standing favorite. It was the perfect place for promotion parties – I was there for military promotions for my daughter when she made Major in the Army JAG, and the catering was outstanding. Stopped by there on a recent weekday and Oliver served up a perfect Irish boilermaker, with Rock Cider ($8) and Buffalo Trace ($16). It’s a handsome old-school pub, and Old Town is lucky to have it.

Overall: 4.75. Charming pub centrally located near all of the sights and in short walking distance from the water. Large bar with multiple dining spaces. Excellent dining experience with outstanding service and delicious appetizers, entrees and desserts. Fish 🐟 and chips, chicken sandwich on pretzel 🥨 roll and fresh fries are so tasty. Fresh salads 🥗 a great starter. Bread pudding is so delicious. Strongly encourage you to support this local business. You won’t be disappointed.

Google
Food was very good, service was OK, they never brought my wife her second beer, but did not charge for it either. Lots of seating and multiple bars, they also had a good tap list with plenty of local beers on tap.

I love coming here for drinks with friends. It has a great vibe. But what I recently discovered is that their brunch is fantastic! I was blown away by how amazing their steak and eggs breakfast was. I will absolutely return to try their other menu items.

Yelp
Ugh. I didn't want to review for selfish reasons because I don't want anyone else to know about this place. Dare I say it, but this is my new fav whiskey bar in the area. While I won't tell you how to find it, should you find it, you will be hosted by a gentleman named Tim. Tim is genuinely a good human being. It's one thing to have a job, but another to actually do what you love, and that's Tim. He really enjoys being there and it's very apparent in his interactions with everyone. Tim makes a MEAN smoked old fashioned; not only is it a great drink but there's a bit of presentation. That goes along with it. The bourbon/whiskey selection is nice too; they have a rotating allocated menu which adds variety to your visits. The food menu is nice...but if you ask Tim nicely, he will produce his special (and new) menu for you that he curated himself. It just so happened that I was the first one to order the smash burger (I know this to be face because Tim told me so) which ended up being a wholesome anecdote. Apparently, the chef had been wanting to make it but no one ordered it so not only was the chef excited to finally make it, he made extra for a few others in the back. This was a damn good burger. Period. The burger was juicy, still had a little pink in the middle, was seasoned well...it was great. The garlic fries were just as good. I don't know if the chef is a genius or if it was unintentional, but the fries didn't have an overbearing garlic flavor, but enough that I had to try more to make sure it was there, and the more I ate the more I wanted until they were all gone. Loved it all.

Yelp
The food, ambiance, and service here are great! My friends and I ordered the crab cake platter, a dozen of the raw oysters, and crab dip. We also shared the bleu cheese burger and some grilled buffalo wings that aren't pictured. All of the food was fresh and seasoned well. The only thing I wished for was the oysters to taste sweeter. Other than that, I loved every dish! Overall, I think this is a great spot to eat at. There is a really good variety of dishes that can be shared and enjoyed!

Yelp
Just to keep it short. The food wasn't seasoned very well. It was aggressively salty or incredibly bland. Nothing felt fresh or worth the price. We had a nice waitress but she was getting pulled in many different directions and had trouble remembering requests. There was an older lady there who everyone remarked seemed annoyed and had quite an attitude. I'd rate it 0 stars because we would never return.

Yelp
Typical old school American restaurant vibes. Service by the bar was a slow at first. Large draft beer menu and most of the are from craft breweries. Good portions for dinner. Fish batter was a little too deep fried and the breading came off a bit easy. Steak was full of flavor and had just the right around of bourbon glaze. Fries were crispy and salty.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was good. The service was good. It felt like a "Cheers bar". If you know you know. Prices were high but location. Location.

Yelp
We had party of twelve that required separate checks which the restaurant accommodated well. The ambiance was excellent. I had the grilled veggie sandwich on a pretzel roll. The vegetables included portabella mushrooms, spinach, pepper, and zucchini. The vegetables were fresh and cooked perfectly and was very tasty. Some of the other dishes that were ordered were shrimp risotto, crab cakes, fish & chips, and crispy chicken sandwich. Everyone enjoyed their meals. There is also a whiskey menu that several people enjoyed. Service was very efficient and friendly.

Yelp
Fantastic experience. Started at the door and continued at the bar. Bruce was tending bar and has been here for 40 years. Great beer on tap and the food was excellent as well. Had the steak frites with sweet potato fries. If you're looking for other places to dine, Bruce will send you to the right places. There are a few proper Irish pubs in town..this is one of the better ones. Cozy decor as well. Highly recommend .

Yelp
We came for their happy hour which goes till 7pm. There were 4 of us and we walked in and grabbed a table right away. All the servers were very friendly and checked on us throughout our time there. We each got a beer/cider and for food got the cheeseburger sliders, Buffalo wings and barbecue wings all from their happy hour menu. We also ordered a side of their garlic Parmesan fries which was from their regular menu. The sliders and fries were both delicious. We needed to kill some time while we waited for a table at a different spot for dinner, so this was a great place to grab a drink and light snacks while we waited!

Yelp
Tried the pesto risotto which was just okay. I thought I would like a pesto risotto but it wasn't my favorite; the pesto was a bit too much. The shrimp were very large and they weren't skimp with the portion size which was nice. My fiancé had the short rib and I was sad I didn't get that for myself. The short rib was amazing; I can't recommend it enough. I went with a large group and our service was still amazing and our server was very attentive. The dining area isn't huge, but there are a lot of separate rooms in the restaurant like the bar area and there's a whiskey bar in the back of the restaurant that has pretty much any whiskey you could think of. The bartender Tim is great and he makes some really cool and delicious specialty drinks.

Yelp
Let's give it a try, Friday night outing at old town Alexandria. Missed happy hour, but pretty busy. Seems like a local hang out. We we're welcome in and told to take a seat. We each ordered beer-not super cold and not serve in cold glasses. Water hit the spot, equal amount of clear ice and water. I got the bowl of New England clam chowder creamy and nice amounts of clam n potatoes. Oyster crackers crunchy and perfectly salted. Hubby got fish n chips, one hand size fried fish with crunchy over cooked fries. $23 for fish n chips , kinda priced high for 1 piece of fish $8.50 small bowl of soup $7,50 each Octoberfest $8.00 beer We like dogs but not when they stand at the bar and eat off the serving area. Bartender gave him treats, so not his first time in. If a service dog, then please where the vest provided for them. Other dogs soon followed. Decent food, loud pand music jukebox .

Yelp
I see that Union Street Public House has mixed reviews.... Here's what you need to know, it's a great casual bar with food that is good enough to surprise you (in the best way) but they are still a pub. I know a lot of complaints were about the prices but you are literally in the Old Town section of Alexandria, you should expect prices to match the location. That being said we popped in for drinks a couple of times and food once. The crab cake sandwich was so good, like all crab and no filler kind of good. The bun was toasted and buttered and piled high. Fries came out crunchy and hot, no complaints there. We also got the chicken BLT which appears to be an Old Town thing based on the amount of menus we saw it on. I got mine without the bun due to a gluten sensitivity. Grilled chicken wasn't dry and everything was tasty. I asked for coleslaw instead of fries because I wanted a savory crunch to accompany the chicken/avocado and was pleasantly surprised with it, fresh and bright and not heavy with Mayo or sweetness. All in all we were very happy with our food, the atmosphere and service, would def return!
google avatar

Brad H.

Yelp
Great venue and personable and real staff which is apparent. The fried chicken sandwich is very thin chicken patty though and based on this way overpriced. The fries are fantastic. All in all a good dining experience for one visit but not worth returning to .

Chelsea M.

Yelp
The food was disgusting and took a really long time to come out, but the waiter was nice. If not for our waiter, I would have given 5 stars. The place was really empty and I can tell why they get no business.

Yelp
Good food and good drinks. We came here here for a drink and quick bite before a ghost tour. We ate in the taproom/bar area on a high top table. The server was a bit curt and hurried us but otherwise was a good experience. Solid option for pub food!

Yelp
Visited for a late lunch yesterday with family and had a great time. I had come here once before for restaurant week dinner last year but never for lunch. This is located off of king street close to the water. We visited around 2:30 PM but opted for their regular menu over brunch which the restaurant accommodated. We started with appetizers of wings (half old bay half buffalo), oysters Rockefeller, and regular raw oysters. All were delicious but the raw oysters were my favorite. The bird's the word drink was also ordered and this was strong and refreshing. For my meal, I got the pork tenderloin which was absolutely delicious. I liked the bbq glaze it came with, subtle and not overpowering. I was a little disappointed because it said it came with mushrooms and spinach but rather, it came with asparagus. I love asparagus but I'm an even bigger mushroom fan so I was sad there weren't any mushrooms. My boyfriend got the crab cake sandwich which was full of a lot of fresh lump crab. Very good. Service was quick and the server was attentive. Music was also on point with classic rock playing the entire time. Overall, a great spot for a quick but tasty meal at a good price. Highly recommend!

Yelp
It restaurant week and I pick this place because of the menu. Great menu for the price. Staff was excellent almost perfect. Nice decor. Good vibe. But me and my companion agree that the place should be graded higher the food was the 3 out of five. Salmon flavor and consistency was a little off. Each item was missing something. Dessert were the best part and I'm not a dessert person. But cheesecake was bought and they just added a sauce - a good one. You can try it. Hope we just picked wrong.

Yelp
We decided to give Union Street public house a chance because one of Barry's friends is going to have an event here. I had the clam chowder and it was wonderful, hot with many clams and potatoes one of the best soups that I've had in a long time. It's restaurant week and I had the trout with the tomato based sauce and spinach which was outstanding. Barry's house salad was great, he mentioned that the pickled onions were a nice touch. Now onto the fried clams that he ordered- they were supposed to be six there were five and he mentioned that they were the worst that he has had in a long time. It was hard to see what were clams and what was everything else. The clams were the size of a quarter and had no flavor. Service was good, temperature was cold we requested to move to a different place. Ambiance was good.

Yelp
We've been coming here for years, for lunch and recently happy hour. We've never done dinner before. The entrees for lunch (or brunch) are very solid and you won't be disappointed with the variety of options they have on the menu. Great Crabcake. Recently we have gone in several times for HH (weekdays 4-6) and have been reintroduced to the neighborly feel and friendliness of the bar staff. The pretzel is amazing, with several dipping sauces to please your buds; Also not to miss are their sliders, a great deal for HH. Oh, and at the bar, they have an amazing selection of hot sauces to complement your apps...don't miss the Ghost Pumpkin and Hurricane BB's as their spiciest! Consider us burgeoning Cliff and Norm patrons to this wonderful Old Town favorite!

Yelp
Great food, we will be back... !!! cheap bloody mary and mimosas! chicken and waffles was amazing g, i had the omlette, amazing...
google avatar

Joe C.

Yelp
I can certainly pick on the food, which is expensive and just okay for pub fare. I can certainly overlook it for an excellent bar and bourbon selection, exceptional service, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Old Town prices, yes, but worth it! Shelly nailed this one.

Yelp
We were on vacation. And it's 11 of us we had no issues getting a table. Our food was ordered and promptly brought out. My kids loved the penne pasta (chicken n sausage) I had the steak and frites. My friend's husband has the salmon. Her kids had the burgers. None of the food was disappointing. Our server was sweet and accommodating. The restaurant was the first bit to add the automatic 20% gratuity to our big group.
google avatar

Valentina D.

Yelp
To be clear, this place markets itself as a bar, not a restaurant. The drinks were tasty, to be sure, but I was also pleasantly surprised by the food. My kids got the fish and chips which were amazing. Honestly, I wish I had ordered the fish and chips for myself! The fish was so soft and flakey, and the batter and fries were crispy. Delish! My husband and I ordered the steak, which was more average tasting, but it was bedded on some yummy asparagus and mashed potatoes. We also got to try some of the appetizers, which were tasty. I have no complaints about the service - every server did a great job! Probably my only knock is that it's all street parking, which can be a hassle on a nice summer night.

Yelp
BLUF: Entrees good, apps not as much Went with about 5 others on a weekday evening. Among us we had steak frites, quinoa salad, house salad, clam chowder, fried calamari, fish and chips and pretzel with mustard. The menu here is pretty limited. Not a complaint though. It's really a pub taht serves food more than a restaurant. And the selection is adequate for most tastes (i.e., american bar food) Everyone liked the entrees and salads. The salads had a nice mix of dark greens, not just iceberg lettuce, and they were well dressed. The fish was fluffy and crispy. Clam chowder very good. The steak was tender, but oddly enough didn't come with a steak knife. When we asked for one it was promptly provided, which is a good entre into noting that the service was friendly and prompt throughout. The calamari was a bit of a letdown. It was overcooked, and had within it a sort of clump of rings. More importantly, it was a pretty scant portion. It didn't even fill the plate provided, and when I saw it I half thought maybe someone grabbed some on the way to the table. The pretzel was tasty, but actually pretty cold. Either it wasn't warmed or was allowed to sit too long before serving. Union Street is a staple of the Old Town restaurant scene, and I'd go back because they are consistently good. Rarely great, but good. Just wish that calamari was better.

Kerry C.

Yelp
I like burgers, and when Im in the mood for one, I always pick Union Street. The burger is always consistent and always so good. It has the char grill taste and they don't overthink the seasoning on beef so you can taste it. Delicioous!
google avatar

Kevin C.

Yelp
Probably my favorite bar in Old Town. Classic bar decor with old wood and stuff. Great, competent career bartenders who are fun to talk to. Try the fried oysters. One of the best bar apps I've ever had. Even if you don't like seafood you'll probably like it. It's not seafoody at all. It's a mix of all kinds of stuff and fried oysters are just the protein level. No shells or anything,
google avatar

Kasi M.

Yelp
Simply delicious. We have always had a wonderful time here and plan to return soon for hubbys bday. He loves the wings. Their appetizers are great. Would love to come for happy hour. We also always have great service. Typically busy. Prices are what you'd expect for old town.
google avatar

Andrew T.

Yelp
Me and my wife attended a reception for a wedding in this venue. We ordered steak and chicken with mash potatoes and asparagus. I personally preferred the chicken over the steak. The ambiance is great for dates. Parking is available on the streets and you may need to walk a couple of blocks if it is a busy weekend. We always love to go to old Town Alexandria. After dining here, you can walk around the by the river. The staff were very friendly accommodating us with our 8 month old son. We recommend this place for a small gathering for weddings or corporate dinners.
google avatar

Alessandra D.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my time here! We came right when they opened on a Sunday post workout class. Food was really good! I will say my Bloody Mary was okay ish--my server I think said he hadn't made one in a long time lol. BUT the Cajun eggs and hash were really good, oysters were fresh, and side Caesar salad was good! Would definitely come back for a casual brunch. They also offer a really good bottomless mimosa or Bloody Mary deal
google avatar

Yelp
A pub is a restaurant is a place to eat and enjoy. It is an older place still in Alexandria in a great location. Come for a glass or wine or a beer. Look at the menu and see what you can have. Start with the oysters or the oysters Rockefeller. We had both. They were great. fresh and tasty and perfect to have on a cool evening. Then we had a collection of a pot of fresh mussels. These were ideal. Wine, garlic, spice and perfect mussels to enjoy the meal you have. A roll of Italian bread helped the meal. We also had a meal of Jambalaya over pasta. It is an American Creole and Cajun rice dish of French, African, and Spanish influence, consisting mainly of seafood and vegetables mixed with pasta in this case. It had a touch of spice to make you think about it as you eat. We also had a dinner of fish and chips. Always a great meal to have when in a pub. You can not go wrong with this meal. The dinner was great. The price was good. The staff is young and learning how to move ahead. The crowd was getting bigger. It is a pub. And after spending a week in Dublin I do remember what it is like to have dinner when in a pub and having a beer or two. Enjoy.

Gc S.

Yelp
Awesom restaurant and bar. You can always count of Union street for good food and a good time.

Yelp
Food was great, and the service was excellent! I enjoyed the ambiance as well. I went to dinner with my best friend and it was a full house. The hostess did her best to accommodate us and we were seated as soon as another table opened up.

Yelp
Some street parking and a few garages around here. It was mostly empty when we came and the food was delicious. We were a little disappointed as there are some items on the menu that the server explained that they were taking off the menu [Oyster Rockefeller & Brick Chicken]. It would have been helpful knowing this ahead of time before we attempted to order. The service was alright, it was a little slow for how quiet the restaurant was. We often had to ask to get a refill on our waters. I ordered a glass of sangria which was good but pretty Cinnamon heavy and also a lot of ice. For our appetizers, we ordered the Fried Oysters and our friends ordered the Pretzels & Dips. The Fried Oysters were delicious and I absolutely recommend. The oysters were all different sizes though, some being quite small. We didn't try the Pretzels but our friends indicated that they were decent except the Pimento Cheese was hard to dip/spread since it was more like shredded cheese. For dinner, I ordered the Shrimp Po'boy and my boyfriend ordered the Parmesan Crusted trout. The Shrimp Po'boy was good, little difficult to eat since the bread was pretty thick and there were thick slices of tomato on there. Fries were great and well seasoned. The trout was also delicious and very well cooked and seasoned. We ordered a cheesecake for dessert which was pretty standard. There was some Strawberries on top. A little pricey but we would probably come back and sit at the bar to try more of the food.

Yelp
Great spot for drinks and a meal nice people sometimes a little rowdy but in a good way just people having a great time

Yelp
wonderful shrimp po boy, trout, burger and grilled patty melt! Ooooh so great! Our waiter was so efficient and friendly. We really lucked out! Beautiful inside & bar is fully equipped. Nice bottle of water on the table. Best food and we are now set for shopping and having cocktails! Thank you George & Heather for the really wonderful experience Feeling the love !

Yelp
Friendly staff, great food. Mid-Atlantic cuisine is super. We were there for a pre-wedding party and the ambience was perfect for mixing and mingling.

Yelp
I absolutely love it here. I think it's a great spot for Sunday brunch, with a friend, a date or for a family brunch. The menu has a ton of options so everyone will find something. I love sitting out on the sidewalk at the high top tables. It's shaded yet sunny. The mimosa flight is a great option for someone who casually wants to drink, a good price point too. The pimento cheese biscuits are a MUST. I'm usually team savory at brunch but the recently added strawberry ricotta pancakes were SO GOOD. I can't wait to return. The Benedict's are always a good option. Maybe they will bring back the crab cake Benny towards the middle of the summer. And so is the breakfast sandwich! Omg I loveeeddd the fried chicken. The shrimp and grits were a new addition. I wish they were a tad less "soupy" I think my egg may have run so it made it that way but with a bit of stirring the consistency came back

Stephanie S.

Yelp
We visited over Labor Day Wkd. We had an enjoyable time here. The ambiance was very nice. It has multiple rooms, each with a different feel. The food was fantastically delicious The staff were pleasant even though our waiter was a bit "matter of fact" in his deliverance but did his job well.

Yelp

Yelp
First time at this location. This was Sam our servers second table. He overcame a little nervousness and provided excellent service. The food was good and delivered timely. I highly recommend this restaurant and look Sam up and wish him good luck with his new job.

Yelp
Definitely give this spot a try when you're in the area it's one of the better locations in terms of quality service and food. The restaurant has that classic colonial look to it and features a tap room and grill room. Service is usually pretty consistent whenever I've been there, the bartenders are usually on point with the drinks and food doesn't take very long to be brought out. They offer your standard American fare various types of salads and sandwiches, wings, burgers, as well as entrees like jambalaya pasta, and Parmesan crusted trout. Menu prices range from around $13-$30 for most items and they also have a seasonal cocktail menu with options from sangria's to old fashioned's. They also provide a fairly decent happy hour menu from 4pm-7pm that offers items like sliders, wings, oysters, and New England clam chowder for $5 as well as the drinks. Make sure you do yourself a favor and order the USPH grilled wings, they have just the right amount of Buffalo sauce paired with the smoky flavor of being fresh off the grill, they're probably the best wings I've had in the Alexandria area, so you'll thank me later.

Yelp
I went to try Union Street during Alexandria Restaurant week because they had a great menu and only 2 for $49. I got the steak frites which came with a side salad. I love shoestring fries and this was particularly good because they were crispy as well. The steak had a nice char and was perfectly medium. My bf got the fish and chips and he said it was one of the better ones he's had. The fish was light and flaky and he loved the coleslaw that came with it (just wish they gave some more). I'm happy that restaurant week brought us to Union Street!

Elise Simpson S.

Yelp
We came in with a big school group, and ended up having more kids with us than we planned. The restaurant was gracious and accommodating, they worked hard to sit us right away and get our food out quickly. Everything was correct on the bill and on the plates. Food was great. Friendly service, highly recommend!!

Yelp
At a meeting in DC and decided to spend our off day on Alexandria. We happened in to Union Street Public House. We first went to a place on nearby King St. But after 25 minutes of no service left and headed back to what should have been our first choice when we walked by earlier. The server was welcoming and friendly. On ambiance alone we knew it was a good choice. The draft selection was good with a good number of local beers and cider. The food was really good. We both had had variations of fried chicken sandwich. The only thing missing was the saints game on one of the TVs.

Isaac B.

Yelp
We had Candace as a server, and she was fantastic. The garlic parm fries were amazing, and the bacon oysters were some of the best I've had. If you're on the edge, do it! It's worth it.
google avatar

Lee P.

Yelp
Everything on the menu is beautifully cooked. Don't skip the New England Clam Chowder, it is superb. The USPH Cheeseburger is tops on my list. My wife always goes for the Parmesan crusted fish. If you can take the noise, the bar is a great place to eat. Otherwise upstairs is nice. We eat here at least two times a month in a town filled with great food. Get in here!

Yelp
Really good food and service! I visited with a friend on a Wednesday evening. I was seated quickly. I ordered the grilled salmon sandwich. It was great! There's a really good selection of food and drinks. I'll be back!

Yelp
Great ambiance. Cool on a hot day and tasty beers for a dry mouth. This is a must for the drunk.

Yelp
Okay. We just went for the first time today. We had drinks and the oysters. The cocktails (the mule and the drink that had deep eddy orange and lemon lime soda) were SO delicious and the 'gander lager was very tasty. The oysters were delicious and served perfectly, plus the cocktail sauce was phenomenal (??). Shout out to the hostess (the lovely lady there at 8 pm on June 4) who was so diligent and kind. She helped us find the perfect spot for our evening. Also, shoutout to the bartenders, especially Christopher T. The cocktails were so perfect and we really appreciated the kind service and cool atmosphere. My ultimate goal is to become a regular here.
