In these difficult credit-crunched times, Uniqlo may become one of my favourites stores I am a big fan of American Apparel, of the clothes of course (finally a t-shirt cut to fit you) but also of the business as they have taken the Western world by storm. The only downside is that for simple plain clothes, AA remains a bit expensive. Uniqlo is a bit like AA but cheaper and almost as colourful, with slighlt more grown-ups styles. I had not stepped into a Uniqlo store for some time and the colourful and stylish windows of the Oxford Street made me step into the store. It was a real discovery, lots of great basic pieces available. To some extent they have reinveted what Benetton was 20 years ago, many basics, particularly knitted stuff, at good prices. This is not Gap (which is really very boring and sooo mainstream American looking), this is not AA (not quite as cool but close), this is Uniqlo and I will shop there from now on (a Merinos sweater at £20, a tie at £7 and a pair of coloured skinny jeans at £25 sound good to me, especially in nice funky colours for Spring in grey London).
