Meet 10 Of LA’s Best Asian-Owned Bakeries

"Businesses along Sunset Blvd come and go like the seasons, but one spot that has stayed defiantly consistent is United Bread And Pastry. Andrea De Guzman and her husband opened the Filipino bakery in 1984, and over the years, they’ve built a strong customer base as the neighborhood has changed around them. Today, it’s the only Filipino bakery left as many other Filipino-owned businesses have closed or moved. But even as new bakeries like Tartine open up down the street, they’ve fared well despite the competition. Since they own the building, United has been able to survive during the past year, and while a lot of people have offered to purchase the property, De Guzman said she plans to pass it to her youngest son and continue to serve the neighborhood for years to come. Order this: Pork siopao and hopia." - with warm welcome, leslie yeh

United Bread And Pastry Review - Silver Lake - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Businesses along Sunset Boulevard come and go like the seasons, but one little corner that has stayed defiantly consistent is United Bread & Pastry. Andrea De Guzman and her husband, who had a background in baking, opened the Filipino bakery in 1984, and over the years, they’ve built a strong customer base as the neighborhood has changed around them. Today, they are the only Filipino bakery left in the neighborhood as many other Filipino-owned businesses have closed or moved, and as shiny new bakeries like Tartine open up down the street, they’ve fared well despite the competition. Since they own the building, United has been able to survive during the past year, and while a lot of people have offered to purchase the property, De Guzman said she plans to pass it to her youngest son and continue to serve sapin-sapin and empanadas to the neighborhood for years to come" - With Warm Welcome & Leslie Yeh

Very homey filipino bakery selling all kinds of bread and pastries. They have empanadas, turon (banana egg roll with jackfruit), traditional rice cakes, birthday cakes, party platters, and pies (cassava/egg). They also have a small grocery section inside. The ladies here are very kind! Parking is very limited. Cash or card.

I spent a month in Silverlake and I think this was my favorite place I visited during my stay. The staff are always so pleasant and nice and the baked goods are TOO cheap. You literally won’t find a better deal in all of Los Angeles. You must try the turon! I’d never had one before visiting and I am now addicted.

This place is such a hidden gem!!! I almost just walked by it and had to go inside to find out whether they were actually open. But I’m SO glad I went in. Their selection I’ll say, is pretty wide although the place appears small. Their pricing is reasonable and service was really good (they didn’t get annoyed with my endless questions!). I got hopias (ube, mung bean, onion) and plantain lumpias. Oh my God... the hopias were SO good and the lumpias, I don’t know how they do it but they sweetened the wrap itself and it’s sooo good altogether! The crispy and chewy, gooey wrap coverig the soft and delicious plantain(tasted more like banana to me) inside. I’d like to try their empanadas next time!!

I have been craving for authentic Filipino sweets lately and unbeknownst to me this small shop was right under my nose all these years. UBP is a mom ‘n pop pastry shop who has been making Filipino sweets, pastries and cakes for 30+ years in Silver Lake. Impressive! They’re located on Griffith Park blvd and Sunset blvd sandwiched between a modern restaurant and a gourmet organic market. I came early morning to grab one of their pastries and check out other Filipino goodies. Interior space was very, very small and a little cramped. However, it’s filled with bread, pastries and other goodies. I was greeted by a young staff, possibly one of the owner’s children attending to their shop. He was welcoming and friendly. I ordered their famous Turon, a deep fried plantain wrapped in spring rolls sprinkled with brown sugar. It was warm, sweet and crunchy. It’s plantain was very soft and sweet. Pure perfection! Turon cost $1.75 bucks each. In general, their prices were reasonable and affordable. They cater to all occasion, hence, the party trays. Parking lot was significantly small. Side street meter parking are available. Overall, I had a good take out order and I highly recommend this pastry shop.

This should be what people means when they say something is “inflation-resistant”. I can’t fathom how they are able to provide baked goods at such a high quality but low price apart from the fact that maybe they don’t have to pay rent?? Definitely recommend giving this spot a try if you’re in the area. I bought a turon and a pandan hopia, totaling to $2. Both were warm (not partially but warm throughout which suggest they were either made very soon before or were kept in a heated environment) and tasted super fresh. I preferred the turon; the outside was crispy and caramelized, and the inside tasted like a plantain but also had jackfruit umami. The layers were clearly defined and the texture was great. Comparatively the pandan hopia was not as sweet, but the filling was soft and gooey. It’s not really a dough-y or bread-y texture but in between bread and pastry, so it was quite unique.

Google
Wow this place was so good. I got hopie (pandan flavor + ube flavor), a small flaky bun. I also got turon which is similar to Latin friend plantain deserts with syrup. Both were so good. The hopie were both super flakey and had very flavorful fillings, they felt delicately prepared. The turon was very flavorful and tasted fresh. The staff was extremely friendly, I had a great visit to United bread and pastry and will be an ambassador to their excellence at each opportunity that presents itself

This Filipino bakery is hands down the best in town! Every item they serve is pure perfection, from their soft and fluffy pandesal to their beautifully crafted ensaymada. But what really steals the show is their *turon* – crispy on the outside, sweet and perfectly caramelized on the inside. It’s no wonder it’s their most famous item! Not only is the food top-notch, but the service has recently taken a huge step up. There’s a new team member, a kind, humble, and hardworking man who goes above and beyond to make every customer feel welcome. His warm smile and helpful attitude really elevate the entire experience, making you feel like family the moment you step through the door. This bakery truly has it all – amazing food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Whether you're grabbing a quick snack or treating yourself to a full spread of Filipino delights, this place never disappoints. If you haven’t tried their famous *turon* yet, do yourself a favor and stop by – you’ll be hooked from the first bite! Highly recommended – a gem for anyone craving authentic Filipino flavors!

My go to for delicious birthday cakes, fantastic Filipino treats, and run by the absolute nicest people who give the most five star service ever. Cannot recommend enough. One of the last good things left on that entire strip of sunset.

Yelp
I was having a hard time finding places that sell hot vit lon (Vietnamese for balut) for a family party. I was searching around and feel so lucky to have found this amazing Filipino bakery! They have so many authentic Filipino baked goods and foods. My family LOVES the balut here. They're so big and only takes 1 minute to warm up. United can also warm them up for you too. I've been getting them here all summer and refer everyone here. The bread and pasties are also so delicious and fresh! The service and family is so friendly and kind. This place is a hidden gem and I'm so happy that they're in the community!

Yelp
My parents would go here to purchase siopao. I believe that they have the best Filipino Siopao and Banana Turon. I have been going here for over 30 years. I drive here from San Gabriel Valley whenever I'm craving siopao. Their banana turon is usually sold out. It's a good idea to call ahead if you are going here for their banana turon. I totally forgot about how difficult it was to park here. There are people that park on both sides of the street, and at times, it causes their driveway to be blocked by inconsiderate people who are not shopping at their store. Then there are people who do not park within the parking slots, which then adds to the problem. When we arrived, we parked within a parking slot. When I was about to leave, someone parked right behind us. He apologized and said he'd be leaving soon, which meant that we needed for him to buy whatever he needed in order for us to be able to leave. Patience is needed when parking here.

Yelp
This Pilipino family owned bakery feels like home to me. It's nostalgia in a bite. Stepping into this family owned bakery is a time capsule; it looks and smells exactly as I remember it as a child. While you're inside, you forget how the business is facing a very busy and very loud Sunset Blvd. With Silver Lake quickly growing and neighbors quickly getting displaced, I'm so happy this business remains steadfast. My parents first began visiting this bakery in the 90s and now I plan to continue supporting them for just as long. Their turon, siopao, kutsinta, puto, sapin sapin, and biko is exactly what I remember it. It's one of those "If you know, you know" places. No signage or menu means the regulars know exactly what to get. The owners are so sweet and accommodating. The Pilipina woman is a no nonsense type of woman! She won't waste your time if you don't waste hers. She is very efficient and appreciates directness so I advise you to be prepared with what you're planning to order. Her son was so kind and took the time to explain some of their products I haven't tried before. He's very genuine and honest about their products.

Yelp
Best turon and chicharrones in LA! The turon is shatteringly crispy from the caramel and spring roll wrapper on the outside and filled plentifully with plantain and jackfruit. My fiance loved the chicharrones so much that he ate half the container in one go and plans to go back today and get some more--they are nicely bite sized and fried into perfect little crispy pig skin puffs. It's located next door to Pine and Crane, so parking may not be the easiest, but I honestly think United Bread and Pastry is a hidden gem of Silver Lake. They sell other delicious Filipino treats and snacks like Halo Halo, polvoron, empanadas, etc. that are also delicious. Mark is really friendly and will explain what everything is to you. Cash is preferred over card and you will get a better price too! I've been coming here since my college days, and I'm so glad that this place is still open so I can get my turon fix.

Yelp
Checked out this bakery on a whim, and I'm so glad I did. It's tucked in a little pocket of a tiny strip mall off of Sunset and Griffith Park Blvds. They sell Filipino treats, breads, and groceries. Everything was delicious! I'd recommend the crinkle cookies, deep fried turon, and *ADDICTING* pork rinds. I wish I got the larger container of pork rinds because my parents and I nearly decimated the entirety of the small bucket once it was opened. They were non-greasy, bite-sized, and crunchy yet not jaw-breaking. The gentleman who helped me was super easy-going and was knowledgeable of all the items in the store. I always appreciate this since I don't always remember the names of certain ethnic foods that I like, just what's inside or what they taste like. If I'm in the Silver Lake area and can find street parking, I'd definitely go HAM on the rinds and get more pastries. Prices are decent for LA, too!

Yelp
Stopped by for some afternoon snacks while in the Silverlake area. Tasty variety, especially if you're a fan of ube. The staff was very welcoming and patient while we were deciding from the large case of desserts. The inside is very warm, so be warned if thinking there is strong AC on a hot day. Not ideally a good parking spot, we walked from around the corner.

Yelp
AMAZING!! Love this place! The best TURON ever, Turon is so crispy and fantastic and even better when it comes out warm!! Great selection of other baked goods like a 2nd home for real! Give it a try!

Yelp
Definitely some good, some not so good. The good? Get the turon. So good that we went 2 weekends in a row. And we live in orange county. The flan was pretty good too, I'd get that for a first time. Everything else we got there was not so good. The polvoron wasn't like any i've ever had. I was ready for the instant dry mouth, haha, but this one actually turned gummy in my mouth and the flavor wasn't great. We also got the polvoron cookies and they had the same strangeness. But again, if you're in the area I would go just for the turon.

Yelp
12/16/22 This review is mainly for their turon & only their TURON. One of our patients brought a box of turon for the staff. Most of our grateful patients do especially during the holidays as a show of appreciation for the care they've been given, from the new ones & from the ones we've been seeing over the years for their care. I have to admit, I've never bought or even visited this shop but our unit has been receiving these wonderfully crafted delicious sweets. These are Filipino style deep fried plantains/bananas & jackfruit wrapped in egg roll rice paper-fried to perfection with caramelized brown sugar. Simply phenomenal-so delicious, not too sweet, it's perfection! It's crunchy exterior & it's delectable soft fruits just so good! Like I said, we've been getting these over the years & they've consistently been the same delicious tasting treat!s!

Yelp
Visited last week and preordered bola bola special (with salted egg and Chinese sausage). Mark, as always was very accommodating and polite on the phone. Upon arriving home, partaking of these special treats, I was given the asado siopao special. Decided to call that evening and Mark stated they do not provide bola bola siopao. They only have the regular asado, or the special huge asado special inclusive of both Chinese sausage and salted egg. No matter the misunderstanding, the siopao's were flavorful and up to par with the best siopao's ever sampled. Both here and in the Philippines. They have the best asado siopao's within the Metro LA area. Thank you Mark, keep up the legacy your Grandmother and Mom pursued. Kudos for a job well done brother! Proud of you guys!!! - best! Nash. Suggest your attempt at bola bola siopao given your convenience.

Yelp
Wife and I have been coming to this place for a while, we live pretty far away but we will always make the drive out to get their turon. It is the best we have had and if you haven't tried it we highly recommended! they also have great cakes, and other decadent filipino pastries! a MUST TRY!

Yelp
I got 2 dozen turon for a potluck and everybody LOVED them! They were warm when I picked up and they stayed well in the car for the 30min I took to drive. I loved the carmelization on the outside and the crispness of the lumpia wrapper. I loved that the turon had both banana and jackfruit - sooo yummy. Also the price is super reasonable! I also impulsively bought 2 dozen ube crinkle cookies - they were pretty good too. I will definitely come back.
google avatar

Ross P.

Yelp
We go here for the turon. 5 stars right there. I know the parking situation is not ideal and the price of the turon bumped up again. Still worth stopping by to have this delicious treat when we are in the area.

Yelp
Decided to roam around the Silver Lake area to kill time in between meetings. Stumbled on this Filipino Bakery in the middle of a busy/ trendy street. They have their own parking space which is a PLUS for the area! When we walked in, we were greeted by a nice Hispanic man. Decided to try their Siopao and their Turon. I have to say, I was very impressed by both. Their turon was delicious and their Siopao (bola bola) was also delicious. It had Chinese sausage and salted eggs inside. It was also a big size! A young Filipino guy helped us and he was very nice! He was hospitable, answered all our questions and even allowed us to take some Calamansi from their Calamansi tree! Thank you! The place looked a little messy and very dusty. That is why I have to give a 4 star. If you're in the food business, especially in the food business- the space has to be clean and look clean. No excuse.

Cindy S.

Yelp
Old school Filipino bakery. I absolutely adore this mom n pop operation. Service is so genuine and friendly. I tried to gratuity tip the young man after my purchase - instead he refused and thanked me for supporting their business. And also offered to send some extra treats to my place of employment. Too kind... okay on to the food; I picked up some: Fried Banana Spring Rolls (Turon) - perfectly fried with riped bananas and Jack fruit inside that is finished off with an outer carmelized sugar coating. These are crazy good! Chicken Empanadas - I thought the BAKED empanadas filling tasted great (chicken, potatoes, carrots, onions, red bell pepper, light raisins ); however, the breading part could be thinner. It was kinda too thick for my liking - overall good not bad. Mocha Cake - chiffon mocha cake was dry. The buttercream was good. I would preorder this cake for a better version. Parking in this area seems impossible. On my visit I was able to secure one in front of the bakery - it was a lucky day. Bring a friend or spouse to circle the block.

Yelp
The turon and the cake is unbelievable feels like I'm in the Philippines... so come and Check it out...

Yelp
Turon are my favorites! $10 for 1 dozen. Winner! The only part I don't like is their location and parking. They are located in a busy area, lots of cars, and parking might be a challenge for some customers. Service is great! Food is great, although I mostly buy turon only.

Armin V.

Yelp
Made an account here and copy pasted from Google for more visibility. The place was ok. Finding a parking space was a challenge, but mainly, steer clear of their hopia. I was hoping for an authentic and good hopia since it was rated 4.6 stars on Google and 4.2 here. I ordered 2 boxes worth $50+ hoping to send 1 box to relatives out of state. But when I got home and started to taste some of the hopia, I couldn't even get past 1 bite. It was stale, flaky, and disgusting. Like it's been sitting there for more than a week. You can tell it was an old batch. The filling was subpar. The durian hopia was disappointing and not a hint of durian. I feel so embarrassed that I sent a box of these disgusting hopia to my relatives. I should've just drove the extra 10 miles and got some from Hopia like it in Winnetka. They do not disappoint. Please do better and improve your food quality because this is an embarrassing representation to us Filipinos.
google avatar

Yelp
Their Turon is the best . I've been ordering turon here when we have family gathering a lot of visitors always asking where did I ordered the turon.. Thank you po

Yelp
Hands-down, the best Turon in all of Los Angeles. I would recommend this place not just to anyone, but to everyone parking is really limited especially since they have the farmers market next-door during the week. It's OK but on the weekend it's very difficult to get in and out of there but overall it's a A+ it's fresh and it's hot and it's ready to go and the price is good too.!
google avatar

Maria G.

Yelp
This bakery is absolutely nostalgic for me. Growing up in Los Angeles, this was my family's go to for pan de sal, empanadas, hopia, egg pie, and all things Filipino treats. I went back here after so many years. The look of the inside, still the same as when I was a little girl. The case still filled with all of my favorites. Came in and ordered their empanadas, hopia, and polvaron. Was not disappointed at all. The guy who helped me was very friendly. Parking is still very limited. But it isn't like you can't find street parking. Going back brought back so many childhood memories.
google avatar

Kenzie W.

Yelp
Sucks that I came in for a simple pick up with my 4 pound toy Pomeranian and was not able to get the cake I needed as there was no dogs allowed. As if I'm going to drive home and come back... dated thinking. More business with better pick up options in my opinion.

Hazel R.

Yelp
I love coming here even though it's a drive for us! The fresh turon and empanadas are worth the drive!!
google avatar

Yelp
Small Filipino bakery located in Silverlake. They also sell other Filipino snacks, home items, and even balut! We got the ube crinkle cookies and mung bean hopia from the bakery. The crinkle cookies are a bit small but you get three small pieces for the price of one. I liked how they were firm on the outside but soft once you bite into it. We also got the balut which they heated for us and was pretty decent. I don't think I've ever really tried it but the juices was tasty. The rest tasted just a bit boiled egg yolk for my liking.
google avatar

Yelp
Usually I'm all for supporting mom and pop shops especially a Filipino one (being I'm Filipino myself) that is highly popular and successful in the community. But the customer service my husband(not Filipino ) received today over the phone was horrible and I unexceptable!!! My husband called inquiring on getting 2 dozen turons because we always believed theirs was thee best! No question on that. So my husband proceeded to ask if they were going to be made fresh and she goes on saying "yes of course they are, what do you think?" and he told her that the last time we ordered them they had just given us the ones that were there sitting out which weren't that good. And she made a snarky remark saying "they're made fresh daily so you get what you get" so as my husband was about to thank her she rudely hung up the phone while he was mid-sentence. Lady if you don't want service and people to go there just say so and we'll gladly take our business else where. I'll make sure to never order from this business again especially if that lady is working there. It's surprising because Filipinos are known for being so nice and hospitable. She's the complete opposite, I don't know if that lady was having a bad day, maybe the rain is upsetting her, but don't take it out on your customers. What a shame because you could have had so much business from my family and husband's family being I am Filipino and he's Mexican. There's always family parties going on and normally we would order here and recommend it to everyone. But with that rude customer service who would want to? I stand by saying their turons are soooo good and possibly thee BEST. But the lady working there just put a bad taste in my mouth to which they lost a pretty loyal customer. If the guy is working there I might give it another chance he never gave me or my husband a hard time or rude service. But other than that I will not give that lady the time of day.

Yelp
Love the Turon and Empanada! Mark is the best! Good customer service! All the people in the store are all nice! Truly Filipi

Bim V.

Yelp
What a delight! One of the best turon experiences I've ever had. Crispy on the outside with soft banana and langka (jackfruit) in the inside. Ambiance reminds me of bakeries back home in the motherland. Walis, canned goods, and baking materials also available for sale. United is located in the heart of Silver Lake and has a variety of offerings. Also known for their pancit Malabon, egg pie, siopao, sapin sapin, and many other traditional Filipino desserts. For large orders, highly recommend to call ahead. Service is excellent and owners are very kind.
google avatar

Richard O.

Yelp
The Turon here is absolutely worth driving for. Turon is an egg roll type sweet treat filled with Jack Fruit & Banana. Each is only $1, I got 5. The egg pie was also delicious. Please support this business.

Yelp
United Bread & Pastry is a small, Pilipino bakery located in Sunset Triangle Plaza, a triangular free space formed by Edgecliff & Sunset Blvd. There is an opening in the plaza to be able to park in front of the bakery if you have a huge order to load up. The bakery also stocks a wide variety of packaged Pilipino food products. Also they do catering of classic Kusina Pilipina such as Pancit Palabok, but there were no options to buy individualized portions that day. However, the purpose of my visit was for Empanada na Manok & Turón. 1) Turón is a thin sheet of wheat pasta rolled around a slice of banana & generous amount of yellow orange jackfruit that has a mellow sweet, woody taste. It is fried to a crisp then sprinkled with sugar which melts and caramelizes into a crunchy thin layering. This may be the definitive Turón that can be found in Los Angeles. Eat it while still warm and pleasantly crispy since it loses its crispiness when cold although the basic flavour doesn't change. 2) Empanada na Manok or some version of it is present in almost every former colony of Spain. It comes from the word, Empanar which means to wrap around w/ bread. The British call it a pasty. Basically chicken is slow cooked with a bit of potato, carrot, raisins whIch add a verjus like sweetness. The meat seems shredded to make it easy to wrap dough around the meat mixture. Then the dough is crimped to seal in the contents and baked to a golden brown. The Empanada at United has a crispy crimping. More soft, bready texture everywhere else. The soft, meaty, shredded chicken mixture has savory meatiness along with a sweet undertone from the stewed raisins. The distinctive aromatic is the use of red bell pepper that is not often used by other Pilipino bakeries. Turón may be the signature dish offered at United. Just the Turón makes visiting there worth the visit. 4- stars.

Yelp
This was a great little Filipino grocery and bakery that I stopped into. Amidst a rapidly gentrifying area, this small spot is there serving up some really interesting Filipino baked goods. I ordered a few things that I was already pretty familiar with, but they had many interesting flavors that I have to go back and try. I had some of their fresh Ube cookies and they were awesome! They also have many flavors of these home made "candies".

Yelp
Small but Delicious pastries amazing service my favorite are the turon specially when they are warm
google avatar

Kristine M.

Yelp
Five stars for the excellent turon and for service. I ended up grabbing 50 pieces of Turon for a family gathering, i wanted 2 extra on the side ( for myself) and the owner hooked it up for free. Turon at the gathering was a hit ( no surprise, lol). Delicious fresh banana & jackfruit wrapped in a crispy, sugary lumpia wrapper ....mmmm. Thanks again United Bread & Pastry for staying in the hood. Run to this local Mom&Pop shop for all your turon cravings.

Ryna D.

Yelp
Excellent Filipino bakery. I usually get an assortment of things when I've come here but the turon is the best part each time. Highly recommended!

Elena B.

Yelp
We really like Turon and Empanadas but what I hate is the people or maybe the owner who I spoke over the phone. She is very RUDE!!! the fact that she knows I am Filipino and she treated me like s***! That's one thing I don't like Filipino business owner...they don't treat their own people with respect! I know your business is successful but you shouldn't treat people like you did to me. Don't forget the power of KARMA

Yelp
went in to get some ube bread! so good, and wonderful customer service. will be back soon. thank you po!
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
We arrived for 3 delicious and home made turons. But because of the authentic Filipino hospitality and Pasko (Christmas season in Tagalog) the owners sent us away with more food then we can enjoy! Just like we would have experienced if we were leaving their home after a family party. LA, if you are yearning for an authentic Filipino bakery, UN & P will not let ya down.
google avatar

Bazz S.

Yelp
Best Turon in LA probably in Cali !!! Make sure to call in first before you go just to make sure that they have some left . If you're ordering in bulk , you can call and place an order ahead of time .

Maurice S.

Yelp
Being filipino myself, my mother was the one who introduce me to this place in the 90's, now she's passed the visits continues and I'm so glad they're are still around and with the original owners. Whenever I'm in a bind to bring food to a party this place with it's chicken empenadas can never go wrong. They have other types of filipino food as well, such as the Turon(can't have just one),and the hopia (hope yah like it!) pastries, especially the ube flavor - so good when cooked in an air fryer and downed with a coffee, who knew? Parkings not that great, so I try to go in the morning, but make your way to this one of a kind Filipino bakery store. I've enjoyed it for years and want to keep coming...
google avatar

Sheryl G.

Yelp
The best Turon ever. Friendly staff and taste and quality is always consistent. Only problem is, the parking is very limited- 2-3 cars only. Still highly recommended for their Turon.
google avatar

Liz C.

Yelp
My go to for turon! The turon here is legendary -- I love how it maintains the crispiness days later! Walking into this store is like taking a flight to the Philippines. Very authentic. Smells and feels like the Philippines. I even bought a walis ting ting (filipino style broom).

Yelp
This place let me down. I went to this place and brought my friend with me just to get empanadas. We ordered 2 dozen empanadas and 5pcs turon. They only have chicken empanadas. It was not good! It taste disgusting. I wish I could've return it but I can't. The empanadas is fill with meat, raisins and green peas. The taste is bland, old food and green peas were hard! It's just disgusting. The turon was good. You have to eat it fresh or else the banana will get hard. The place is small, the cake display is not appealing, and customer service are disorganized. Also, they don't have a clear menu on what they sell. I don't know if I should give another try and waste my money.

Yelp
This place is a gem. Been going here since forever, before "Silverlake" was gentrified. This is a community staple, chicken empanadas (Filipino-style) are amazing. They also have Pandesal, Filipino bread, and you can also score legit not commercialized Ube goodies, balut and the amazing garlic peanuts. The owner is so sweet, she's been grinding forever. It is more of a bakery take out them place to grub but definitely a Los Angeles staple for a minute. If you want genuine Filipino goods. This is your spot.

Yelp
Wow I was looking for an authentic Filipino bakery to satisfy some cravings and I'm so happy to have found this place! Tucked away to the side is this gem that has been in LA for decades! I got a wide assortment of pastries all at a value price. The standouts for me was the Turon which was perfectly crispy and sweet, the glaze on it wasn't watery but just right to make it sticky and crunchy. The empanada was thiccccc and was such a treat with tender chicken that wasn't dry at all! Such an iconic lil place here and I'm happy to have found it! Cant wait to come back soon!!

Yelp
The only place I will buy Filipino empanadas from. Sooo good! Old school Filipino bakery on Sunset in a Silverlake neighborhood taken over by hipsters. The bakery is literally now surrounding by coffee shops, little cafes, and all things hipster. It's a definitely hidden gem. Parking can be a little difficult since the streets are crowded with pedestrians, especially on the weekend. If you can manage to get into the tiny parking lot in front of the bakery, you'll have to be extremely careful getting back out. You're better off finding street parking around the corner. The bakery is family owned and I swear the same two people have always worked the counter. The friendliest people. They offer Filipino snacks, pastries, treats, cakes, and even offer catering. I've had several parties catered in the past and have been thoroughly satisfied with all their dishes (palabok, pancit, turon, and so much more). Nowadays, what I come in for most is fresh empanadas. There's nothing like a warm, freshly baked empanada from United. Golden, sweet and flaky on the outisde, warm and savory on the inside. If you know, you know. And if you haven't had United, you're missing out!

Yelp
Never thought that Los Angeles had a good Filipino bakery. But, it's Los Angeles, so it better be good! We went on sunset Blvd. and expected great places to go eat or shop. This place delivered although the surrounding smelled of piss. The place is located on sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles where parking is a pain in the booty. Otherwise, the excitement of people watching and shopping is a plus. The food places are abundant but figured we try this out as it was a recommendation from a friend. Inside, it is very small. Very few people were inside and there were plenty of Filipino desserts inside such as: turon, ube empanadas, buko pandan, halo halo, pastilles and plenty other Filipino cakes and pastries. What I got I'll show you through the pictures. The empanadas were very good and the bao we got was amazing as it was fresh. They had them in pork and chicke. And we got one of each. The total was about 43$ after taxes. The photos should speak for themselves. The customer service was very good, the guy had a personality though I didn't catch his name. He rode a Japanese motorcycle to work everyday. The cookies we got in ube and chocolate were hard and inedible to me. The hopia which is also filled with ube was delicious. They make them by the dozen and not in its dice form. We also got a slice of cake for free somehow even though it was about 2$. The guy just gave it for free. Maybe it was laying out there for days and he wanted to give it away, idk. It tasted good as it was cassava. Free WiFi, no bathrooms and no parking nearby. The place is located in a desolate area off sunset so it is difficult to find at first, but remember that waze and google maps are your friend. Overall, the experience was great, expect traffic and difficult to find parking if at all. There are a few places nearby that looked good but didn't have a chance to try.

Yelp
I am updating my review for their TURON. It's actually the main thing I go there for. In my last review, I didn't enjoy their turon because it somehow changed-bland, texture was off. I have gone back several times since then, and their amazing turon is back! Undeniably one of my fave turons. (I have two faves: one is United, the other one is Kababayan in West Covina) This is my go-to shop closest to me, whenever I have my turon craving.

Yelp
United Bakery is a local Filipino bakery in Silverlake. This tiny bake shop is easy to miss and located in the wedge where Sunset curves into Griffith Park Blvd. My go to here is the turon.. Turon is basically a fried plantain wrapped in a spring roll wrapper with includes a strip of ripe jackfruit. After it's fried, it's caramelized in sugar. United Bakery is one of the better bake shops that makes a great turon. For $0.60/piece, it's a steal. Get them made to order and served warm.

Yelp
Wonderful customer service. Stopped in last night after a day I out with my parents and sister. After having dinner and walking around Historic Filipinotown we decided to stop by United Bread and Pastry for dessert. We bought some kutsinta, Ube mamon, a couple halo halo , a some other misc items like fried peanuts. The person behind the counter was very attentive and knowledgeable when answering the questions we had for him. He went above and beyond to accommodate us. It was a pleasure to support this local family business and our treats were delicious.

Yelp
Great legit Filipino bakery with the nicest people working there. Love their ube rolls (and really all things ube).
