London’s Best Hot Dogs | Frankfurters, Weiners, and More | Eater London

"British company Moving Mountains has launched a new plant-based hot dog that looks, tastes and smells unusually similar to the original product. Currently available at not-for-profit vegan restaurant, Unity Diner, the 10-inch sausage is produced with sunflower seeds, carrot, coconut oil, onion and paprika. Three hot dogs featuring the Moving Mountains frankfurter are served but the simplest — “The Classic New York Dog” — is the most enjoyable." - Jonathan Hatchman

Been a few times and always enjoyed the food. The new Sunday Carvery is insane. Tried both the ‘chicken’ and ‘lamb’ - so so good. All the trimmings are very good. It’s a big success- glad they reopened. Friendly staff as well, AND dog friendly!

Great place to visit for dinner Booked for dinner on Saturday evening to make sure we got a table for 2 adults and a teen. The restaurant and atmosphere are really nice with lots of funky vegan signs and artwork everywhere. We basically ordered the entire starter menu along with a burger and a Caesar salad. Everything was really good and clearly freshly made, I'd also recommend the Nirvana IPA which is delicious. With just about enough space to share some puddings we had the biscoff bliss and the cheesecake which were fantastic. The service was really good, they even ran after me as I'd left my sunglasses on the table 🤦‍♂️ Definitely with popping in if you're anywhere near the area, even if it's just for the drinks and puddings!

Delicious! We went for the Sunday vegan roast and then went back in the week for the regular menu. Food is very tasty, creative, and nicely presented. My only feedback would be to add some salad or chips to the burger so it looks better value for money. The tofish and calamari were our favourites. And we really loved the sticky toffee pudding. Yum!

Overall, it’s on the expensive side for what you get. The Mac & Cheese tasted mostly of flour with a bit of salt, though the vegan fish and chips were better. It’s an option if you specifically want vegan alternatives, but the taste was often far off from what you’d expect if you’re used to the meat or cheese versions (we all tried different dishes and felt the same). Drinks and food are quite pricey considering the portion sizes and taste. On the positive side, the food arrived on time, and everything came out together even though we were a larger group, staff was friendly and welcoming. Not really a fan, to be honest. It works if you need a vegan option, but I wouldn’t rush back.

The restaurant is beautifully designed with very pleasant atmosphere and ambience. The staff were all very nice and polite. The food was so delicious and looked very appetising, even the plates it was presented on were so pretty and unique. They also have a very extensive selection of drinks and cocktails, as well as mocktails. There were so many things that we wanted to try so one visit is definitely not enough! I highly recommend this place.

The venue was quiet, but got quite noisy after 1pm. Music played at moderate levels. Mocktail : Piers Morgan Tears £9 This was very nice and not too sweet. Mushroom skewers £7 Unusual but tasty and meat-like. I’d happily eat this again. Tofu goujons and chips £18 Smoked paprika on chips was delicious. The mushy peas were smooth and addictive. The tofu fish wasn’t great, with a spongy texture. Tiramisu £8 Not good. I waited over ten minutes for my dessert. It was not worth the wait. It was crunchy and overpowering coffee flavoured. There wasn’t any contrast between the lady fingers and the creamy layer; it was just coffee coffee and more coffee.

The food here is divine. It took me so long to decide what to order as everything on the menu looked amazing! In the end I ordered the vegan calamari and hot dog, while my husband ordered the mushroom skewers, loaded fries, and the hotdog. I also had the pineapple lemonade, which was one of the best drinks I've ever had. The staff here are very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. I wanted to come back and try the vegan carvery on a Sunday, as it looks amaazing, but sadly we ran out of time.

Google
Loved this place! Food was absolutely amazing and so much choice, so worth the trip! Great portion sizes and unique dishes. The lobster mac and cheese was heavenly. Cocktails delicious. The service was so friendly and efficient, especially our server Philippa who was so on the ball, knew exactly what she was doing and was so lovely! So great that the profits go to an animal sanctuary too, really not a lot of places like this and it’s wonderful to see it back.

Yelp
Ehh you better LOVE tofu if you wanna like the fish n chips here. It's a pretty big cut of tofu so after the first bite, every next bite tastes the same. It was pretty creative to wrap the tofu in seaweed before battering the tofu though. The pea soup on the side was decent. Overall the meal was bland and expensive but if you're craving vegan fish n chips and don't mind filling up on tofu, this place is.... ok

Yelp
I live in the US and have been fantasizing about eating at Unity diner ever since its opening. Thanks to a work trip, it was the perfect time to finally try it. Especially the tofish and chips that I had my eyes on for a long time. That place did not disappoint. It was simply delicious. Just a perfectly crafted, mouth melting vegan version of fish and chips. The non alcoholic cocktail I got was also delicious. Friendly staff, just wished I could stay longer to try all the dishes. Highly recommend.

Yelp
It was my second time visiting London and this time around I was able to find a lot more veg friendly options. This place was a wonderful and unique experience. I got to try vegan fish and chips and it was amazing! The way they were able to do a salty breading with seaweed around what I assume is tofu, made it so tasty. My boyfriend, who is not vegetarian, said it tasted exactly like regular fish and chips. He ordered a fried chicken sandwich with bacon. The french fries (chips) were thick and delicious. The portions were very generous. I would recommend pairing the fish and chips with something a tad lighter, like a salad or refreshing drink because it is a lot of fried food. I would also recommend getting a reservation ahead of time - we weren't able to get a table without one.

Yelp
Really good vegan food! We had drinks, the loaded nachos, gnocchi, and fish bites. Nice ambiance as well.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful vegan food! A must go! I had the vegan "Fish" & Chips and it was so realistic that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between that and real fish! They had an amazing dessert too! Full bar and friendly staff. I would be a local here if I lived in London. I hope Ed opens up more restaurants in the UK and eventually abroad.

Yelp
I never thought I would eat a 3d printed steak - and enjoy it! It has to be eaten to be believed. The lobster Mac and cheese was also delicious. The fried fish was the most realistic I've ever had. And kids eat for free!

Yelp
One of many exclusively vegan restaurants in the area. 5m walk from old St station. The Epic Salad lives up to its name. Really filling and really healthy and quite delicious!! The ale battered tofish was just okay, not that much flavor itself, but the vegan tartar sauce was great. Staff was courteous and prompt with seating, running food, bringing drinks, etc.

Yelp
OMG. I am not a vegan, I LOVE MEAT. But, on the way back to my hotel each night I walked by this spot and it was always packed full. I had to try it out. It was definitely worth it. I highly recommend grabbing a seat by the bar. The staff was so incredibly friendly. I ended up just hanging out and working on my phone and chatting with them. Plus, the food and cocktails were out of this world. I didn't miss my meat at all. Save room for the dessert, because it is incredible. I ordered the moving mountain burger on a gluten-free bun. I was nervous at first. It didn't look the best. But, I dove in. WOW! It was tasty. I also enjoyed the chunky fries. The peanut butter blonde was not to be missed. That definitely looked as good as it tasted. The ambiance is a fun 50's modern diner theme.

Yelp
I looked up vegan restaurants when I was visiting London and I found this place and it's a really nice vibe with great food and drinks

Yelp
Delicious simple menu at Unity diner. The diner supports vegan activism and education. The Diner is a 5 minute walk from old street station. The moving mountains burger was large and flavorful. For dessert we had a wonderful cherry pie. A starter Mains drinks and dessert for 2 was around 50quid. I would suggest reserving a table for dinner.

Yelp
It's hard to review this place because they were out of all the items I wanted to order. Three items on the menu were taped off and our waitress let us know they were out of three more items. I ordered a drink, and guess what? Out of that too. I ended up ordering an old fashioned and watched as the bartender struggled to make it... an old fashioned... another server stepped in and made it for him. I had the mac and cheese and it was good, not really what I wanted, but good. Maybe I just happened in on an off day since all the other reviews are glowing? Maybe just don't go on a Tuesday at 8pm? I love the idea of this restaurant and hope it does well.

Yelp
This place is amazing!! I've wanted to go since it opened and when I got the chance to visit England it was the first thing on my list. My girlfriend and I ordered the cheezy fries, the moving mountains burger and the raw tacos. We loved everything!! It was super busy, so make sure to make a reservation if you're going on a weekend or evening etc. It also has a beautiful mural, and the vibe is warm and friendly. It is, plain and simply, a great place to be. I wish I lived in England so I could visit again!!

Yelp
This place is amazing!! We had all the starters and the Mac and cheese and waffle fries and literally everything was absolutely perfect. We will definitely be back again. The tofish and shrimp were our favorites and the Mac and cheese was also amazing! We will be remembering this meal for a long time!

Yelp
Overall decent food here. Wanted to give this place 3 stars, but will give it a +1 because I love the work that Unity Diner is doing. The restaurant is a not-for-profit restaurant, supporting animal sanctuaries and organizations. Very cute interior with a neon "VEGAN" sign, and very kind staff. Menu isn't anything too unique. Came for weekend brunch and had the Tofu Scramble on toast, and my partner had the Chick'n and Waffles. Tofu scramble was good, the waffle was great itself, but the chick'n not so much. Next time I'd be interested to try the "bakon" as that seemed to be one of their most popular items on the menu and was highly suggested by the waitstaff. Overall just OK food, but for a great cause, and I'm always down to support a vegan business. Side note: Do not order the matcha latte--it wasn't whisked and I basically received plant milk with matcha clumps on the bottom.

Yelp
We're locals in the area and this is one of our regulars. We take visitors here who aren't vegan and they enjoy it just as much as we do. The variety and choice is also a real plus as vegans don't usually have great options for breakfast. The interior is pleasing with plants and murals which gives it a welcoming vibe. Staff are also lovely and helpful. What makes this place unique is that it is a not for profit (they are partnered with an animal charity), so it really is worth coming by this place just to check it out.

Yelp
I come to London every January basically because the entire city is less crowded and coincidentally it's also VeganuaryI dragged my daughter along this time to basically eat our way through the city trying as many vegan options as possible. Unity Diner was top of the list and we finally made it on our last night before flying home. Believe the hype!! The glowing reviews are there for a reason. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by a friendly hostess and seated quickly. Our waiter was funny, charming and helpful. We tried a few small dishes to share in order to save room for dessert. All of our choices were delicious particularly the mozzarella sticks. It's hard to find good vegan mozzarella at least here in the states but this was gooey, melty and tasted on point! My daughter loved the popcorn chicken and we both enjoyed the chunky fries. The ginger beer and organic cider were both tasty as well. I was really regretting not ordering the vegan caesar salad after seeing it at the table next to us but my daughter reminded me that we didn't fly all the way to London for salads. The waiter suggested the salted caramel cake for dessert and I'm so glad we followed his advice. Absolutely devine! Can't wait for January 2021!!!

Yelp
I have been to so many vegan places all around, from NYC to LA and anywhere in between, and let me tell you, this is one of the best!! This place wasn't even on my radar when I bookmarked the Vegan spots I wanted to hit while in London, but I am so glad I ended up here. The atmosphere is amazing, in one of the cutest and liveliest areas in London. The menu is simple, but swings in the direction of Champs Diner in NYC (only talking about more savory lunch options, not endless pancakes). The portions are HUGE, which isn't very common with vegan places. The Fish and Chips are amazing and I would highly recommend them to tourists wanting to try a vegan version of the traditional British dish. The staff was friendly and they have free WIFI! I think this place has some of the best vegan food I've tried.

Yelp
This diner was a little disappointing. The food wasn't as great as I was hoping it would be. I got the VFC sandwich (Vegan Fried Chicken). The chicken patty was not good. It was so tough and hard to chew... I understand that they're trying to emulate chicken but I don't want vegan food to taste sinewy. It was more than off-putting. On top of the party was vegan cheese, bacon (not good, I took it off), and a hashbrown. The hash brown was the best part of the sandwich. We had to order fries separately from our meals and they were good. On to the positives: the starters were amazing! We got the mozzarella sticks and the tofish bites. I was never much of a fish person before going vegan but I loved the bites! They were amazing. The mozzarella sticks were also spot-on but £5.50 for 3 little mozz sticks? Ridiculous. The service was great. Everyone was pretty friendly and I liked how all the servers helped each other's tables. I loved the ambiance of the restaurant! As a vegan, it truly made me feel like I could change the world haha. I love going to a place with all vegan options. Nothing to worry about! We also got dessert but I sadly didn't eat any of it because I was too full. Very upsetting because the desserts looked incredible. My table got the peanut butter blondie with salted caramel ice cream and a slice of the salted caramel cake!! Ahh! They looked so good. I wish I could've taken a bite. I'd definitely go here again just because I loved the ambiance and love an all-vegan place but I would not order the VFC sandwich again.

Yelp
What are an American Vegetarian/Vegan family to do when looking for a place to eat in London. The Unity diner came highly recommended from my daughter who is here for a semester. The place is casual and the food was outstanding. From the starters to the dessert I don't think things stayed on our plates very long. If you are looking for a Vegan place to eat this is the spot. If you do eat meat and want to see the many available options at hand give this place a shot. It is worth it

Yelp
First time eating in a vegan restaurant, food was ok, flavours are good but surge burger bun was too dry, no chips with the burgers?. Their rooibos tea isnt very good not what im used to being South African. Shrimps tasted nice, surprised how close it came to the real thing. The biggest let down for me and my partners daughter who wanted to come here like a dream come true was the disappointing long wait for our desserts (30mins wait) because it became busy. Apologising 3 times saying "its coming just a few more minutes" is not on and then still getting a service charge on the bill!!! I personally wont be coming back here.

Mike G.

Yelp
Awesome vegan food. I had the Full English breakfast and my wide had the Fruit Pancakes. Both delicious. The place was bright and service was polite and spot on. Definitely a place to visit again.
