New Orleans Hospital Gives Employees $1 Million to Spend at Restaurants | Eater New Orleans

"Included within the LCMC Health system, University Medical Center employees are slated to receive restaurant-only gift cards under Operation Bon Appetit (full-time $100; part-time/contract $50), part of a program designed to funnel nearly $1 million to New Orleans restaurants during a typical late-summer slowdown." - Clair Lorell

I just want to brag about my Doctor and his staff! I had bariatric surgery and Dr. Leithead and his staff was and is amazing! I’m satisfied with the results and outcome of my surgery. I feel good and I look good! Dr. Leithead is an awesome Doctor and he cares about his patients and he listens and he is very observant about his patients! If I could I would award him for being the most caring doctor in the whole United States. This man is the truth! I highly recommend him to anyone and everyone who is thinking about having Bariatric surgery. His work is phenomenal matter of fact there are no words for him and his staff because they all are amazing 🤩.

I had an amazing experience at the cardiology clinic. Ms Charlie made me feel comfortable and eased my concerns. She was able to inform me in detail on what to expect before starting each test which helped me stay calm. She was also endearing and even comforted me when I was down. She was amazing and made the entire experience a fun and last memory! Wait time and cleanliness was also 10/10!

Added reviews: I wouldn't recommend this location to anyone. We are 2 hours away. Told to be here for 10. It's now 12:30 and all they say is we don't have a room. I'm the only person in here that's waiting to go back. Everyone that was here prior has either gone or still waiting for their loved one. And everyone that arrived after me had been ba k already. This is absolutely ridiculous. I haven't eaten or had anything to drink since dinner yesterday!!! Ready to walk out !! Still have a 2 hour drive home. And get my kid off the bus. And my husband has to work tonight. Save yalls time and find somewhere else to go. Edit: I had to reschedule my surgery because we waited there all day and nothing. Sooo we come back on the 17th for the next trial. Only waited 2/2 and a half hours ok fine. The staff this time was so much friendlier which made it better. Ok now I'm here for my post op they wanted me here 15 min before my appt time. It's now an hour after my appt time. I ask when I will be seen. I have to pick my kid up at school for 3. It's 12:15. She tells me they are waiting on rooms. What's the odds of that. I'm forced to come here for my surgery due to my normal place doesn't take my insurance for the surgery. And I still have to do my left hand. I now see why this is the lowest rating place around. People that don't have or can't afford a good insurance have to suffer and come to places like these. They are quick to charge your insurance and cancel you or you are 15 min late for your appt but expect you to sit all day and wait on them. If I could give this place a 0 I would. Edit: 11/17 Here we are again 1.5 hours after my appt time. Just to get a surgery date that couldn't be done over the phone. And again no one can tell you anything. And when you do get something it's the same damn thing. Waiting on a room. How are u waiting on a room. Stop over booking just to push people in and out to make that money. Some of us have other appts and things to do but nooo when you come to this place have to cancel ur whole dang day. They cancel ur appt and charge your insurance if are longer than 15 min late. Where's my fee for having to sit and wait for you!!!

The PACU floor was amazing after my mom's heart surgery. The 6th floor on Tower 2 was not that great. The night tech got aggravated that she had to change my mom's bed. My mom asked to use the bathroom since her bed had to be changed but the nurse told her to use the purwick after my mom waa laying in a stretcher in PACU for 6 hours more than what she was supposed due to no rooms. My mom had to beg for her anxiety medicine. The day shift was worse than the night shift. No one knew what time breakfast came. They forgot to get my mom breakfast so finally at 10am she received her breakfast & coffee. It was so cold that the creamer couldn't dissolve in the coffee. The nurse came and threw wipes and a towel on my mom's bed, told her she was coming back but she never did. The blinds were broken in the room so not only you had the sun beaming on you and in your eyes, it also made the room hot. UMC might had amazing doctors but the hospital needs work, especially with their employees.

I have no words for how great of a team you guys have been on this experience with my treatment for uterine cancer my Doctor Amelia Jernigan has been a warrior for me and my condition if not for her and her team I would not be here. My family has a deep respect for her and everyone who has been there for me since this started in 2023. I trust her completely and I am grateful for the support and encouragement that she’s given along with University Medical having the latest medicine and treatment available for the type of cancer that we are fighting and notice I said we because I know that Doctor Jernigan and her team Np .Shauna and my nurses Erica,Beth have the greatest support for me getting the best care for me and my family trust them with everything that comes my way so great love to this hospital for bringing the best possible care for me and others who are fighting everyday this journey. My mom has been diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis on 08/21/25 & she's 83 years young. She's no longer gasping for breath after her TAVR PROCEDURE on 10/29/25 by Dr. Ramee & his whole team at University. They are an amazing team of caring doctors, nurses and staffs. We're blessed to have such amazing and caring team in our state. Thanks to them, our mom has another 20+ years left. 💓
