Looking a Seagull in the Eye Might Stop It From Stealing Your Food | Eater

"Researchers at the university tested whether direct human gaze can deter herring gulls from stealing food. Using french fries as bait for 75 gulls (only 19 of which actually engaged), they found that birds receiving sustained eye contact delayed their approach—taking an average of 21 seconds to go for a fry versus 13 seconds when not stared at. The study concludes that staring can modestly postpone gull theft and serve as a simple, low-cost short-term deterrent, though it may not prevent an entire snack from being taken." - Brenna Houck

Location was good, but parking was limited, due to improvements being made to car parking area.m, so won't be o going. Room was pretty basic for the price - no TV and bathroom was a bit prisony, but very clean and felt very safe. Breakfast was a canteen style buffet, which was great 👍

Stayed at Holland hall part of the University of Exeter with my brother and friend , enjoyed the room I was in for 4 nights had a large double bed and a private bathroom generally satisfied there was a breakfast as well in another building near by there was a good selection, Holland hall was a steep trek most up hill but there is a bus that serves the University, also some nice views from there of the city

I wholeheartedly recommend the career and wellbeing departments at Exeter. As someone with dyslexia and ADHD, I have truly felt supported and understood here. The university has created an environment where I can thrive both socially and academically, and I appreciate the efforts they make to help students like me succeed.

Great university with a sterling reputation. Many great artists and scientists studied here and my friends who studied here have only stellar things and experiences to share. The campus is extremely beautiful and it was a great pleasure to be here.

Surreal place to visit and work. It's a lush green environment, consequently ultra clean air.. Campus is on a steep slope, so good healthy option for walking.

Had a stroll round the campus and snapped some pictures of the sculptures. Something different around every corner. Particularly liked the way the trees were framed in the Barbara Hepworth piece. Photos would have been better on a sunnier day but still a pleasant walk with a few hills and steps.

I want to give 5* to the campus! It’s so beautiful and diverse, you can walk around and across it everyday and it gets ever more lovely. As you study here, you become a witness of how nature and landscape evolve throughout the seasons, those “refrains of nature” that give peace to everyone who is willing to be touched by the beauties of the earth that Rachel Carson wrote about. Very hard not to fall in love with this place.

Yelp
Exeter is blessed with one of the snobbiest and most unpleasant university student bodies possible. A favourite with the complacent and the hoorays. Didn't make Oxbridge then go to Exeter. This is why any establishment that attracts these boring toffs in Exeter is worth avoiding. Of course there are proper people that go there as well but they're getting harder to find by the year.

Yelp
I got my undergraduate degree at the University of Exeter (a BSc in Physics) as well as a postgraduate degree (a PhD in Physics). I enjoyed the student experience, going to the Lemmy, getting tanked up before heading into town for the nightclubs, attending the uni's cinema society screenings of obscure films. I played in several bands at such events as the Safer Sex Ball, and made loads of friends in the Halls of residence as well as on my course. I found the course to be challenging and rewarding, and most of the staff to be very helpful. The campus is really stunning, with excellent green spaces ideal for picnics and parties. I was disappointed with the conveyor belt attitude that the uni seemed to have towards students, and the way that education was treated as a business, but then I guess that's the way things are going these days.
