We townies are so blessed to have Kansas University right here in our backyards. This school also brings in so many multicultural people from all around the world, so you can potentially meet someone from anywhere, which is just so cool 😎!

One of the most beautiful universities in Kansas (yes, I know the quality of education is more important). I came here for some friends' graduation some years ago and it was packed full of people! I liked the atmosphere here.

I have to say I really like that the school has such great students and faculty. I also love that they have a program for incoming faculty (not sure if for staff) for dual careers. It is hard to relocate a lot and get the lay of the land when you follow your spouse.

Absolutely gorgeous campus, fantastic professors, and a world class education. Continually produces students that lead not only in their Kansas communities, but also on the global stage. In addition to that, the faculty and staff at this school truly care for your well being. If challenging yourself to be the best version of yourself is something you're interested in then this is the university for you. Rock chalk!

RCJH! Of course I recommend one of my favorite places on the planet! Lawrence and the University have so much to offer! And we have one of the best campuses in the country! Best school in the Midwest!

I'm sooo happy I chose Kansas... even when everyone in L.A. asked me, "Why the hell would you ever move to KANSAS?!" and doubted a city-girl like me could ever survive there... Boy, did I prove them wrong. Got a great education and had the time of my life. I will forever be a jayhawk.

How could you review your Alma Mater, and why? Could you regale in prose such an hourly, daily, weekly, and yearly struggle to achieve a single goal? Perhaps. Perhaps you could capture the ups and downs, the trials and tribulations of a $54,000 Liberal Arts degree. The stressors of tests, and myriad mindless tasks hard won, and unavoidably lost like the smallest set of keys in a most cavernous space. Can I still read Latin after two years of study? I can struggle to, lesser every day. Do I remember the symbiotic relationship of zooxanthellae relative to the other marine life? Of course. The point is, information is what you make of it - and contingent upon inherent interests beyond your control. You love what you love - with no opinion necessary. Do that more. Indulge in every productive curiosity. At KU, I delved headfirst into the experience. I was older then, and so avoided the typical nonsense of the more traditional and adolescent path. I maintained a hawk's eye for the pernicious and subtly ubiquitous university billing error, and changed my professors and courses often. What resulted was a challenged and fertile path of diversified knowledge. It is incumbent upon you to challenge your existence. For what purpose are you here? For the acquisition of money? Some would say yes, and I fear that the majority of those are practicing for the wrong game of life. It is a tough row to hoe, but we all cultivate what we believe will be the best crop to harvest in the future - whatever that may be. Challenge your professors, respect your professors, and allow them to profess what knowledge they wish to share - they are humans much like yourself, and have chosen to expend their finite existence in the service of others. Get to know them well; seek out the "take your professor to lunch" program: a program paid for by the college for you to take any professor to lunch, on the school's dime. Explore every inch of campus, and appreciate the time you have. I love KU, but not for the sports. I love what KU represents, which is the betterment of man through the continued proliferation of knowledge gained. The campus is wonderfully beautiful atop the hill, and mobility is manageable. I'm a bit taken aback by the recent developments happening in and around my beloved campus, what with such a push away from "big school in a small town." Now it feels something more akin to Norte Dame, or any of the other homogenous football schools. Still, nothing beats completing that last final, jumping on the bus with the evening setting in, and barreling down Jayhawk Boulevard on your way to nowhere in particular with all the worry of time behind you. That'll always be there, no matter the aesthetics. Hail to Old KU!

Came through as a tourist and wanted to check out the campus. I have to say that compared to many other campuses I have visited, this one seems old, poorly planned and it seemed like everything was under construction. It didn't have the same beauty appeal that many other campuses I have visited have had. I know Kansas is well known for their basketball and I'm sure the campus is electric during games, I just didn't see the appeal.

My son's been a student here for 6 years, working towards his PhD in physics. We've not been without significant challenges but that's what life is. We're not done yet, but overall, a great learning experience!

This is a mini-review for first-time visitors of the University of Kansas. If you've never been to Lawrence, and want to see the University, you might want to stay at The Oread (or park and grab a meal there -- since parking is scarce on campus). The Oread has a good gift shop (if you are with an alum: alumni get a discount) and is a great point of departure. The Oread has a fantastic view of KU and the entire valley on its top floor -- where there is a bar/entertainment venue. Wear comfortable sneakers -- those who don't know KU (or this part of Kansas) will likely be surprised at the hills and change of grade if you start walking. The school is atop Mount Oread, after all. Starting at The Oread, walk along Oread Avenue, past the KU Memorial Union and a view of the Memorial Stadium. The older buildings such as the Natural History Museum and Lippincott (the old law school) make for a good view, beautiful architecture. The walk continues onto what becomes Jayhawk Boulevard. On your left is Watson Library and tall Fraser Hall with its twin flagpoles. Next are Bailey Hall (home of KU Debate) and then Strong Hall the administration building. On the left is Wescoe Hall, frankly an architectural abomination. Wescoe was intended to be a 20+ story tour but mercifully only four stories of this brutalist monstrosity were built. You will pass Snow and Marvin Halls and come up on Chi Omega Fountain. Keep going and you can turn left onto Naismith Drive. Naismith Drive will take you down to Allen Fieldhouse, which is just amazing in its history and in the track record compiled there (you know it - Rupp played here, Dean Smith played here, Phog Allen coached here, Naismith was the first coach and the game's inventor -- there's some history for basketball fans). (New business school building across the street). There is a good gift shop at Allen Fieldhouse with a good selection -- Rally House. The DeBruce Center has the Naismith Rules of Basketball, thanks to David Booth's generosity. We visited here recently in the dead of summer and it was terrific to see it all. For those not ready to walk everywhere, in the summer off season, there is ample parking at the Fieldhouse. Another traditional walk from Oread Avenue (back near The Oread/KU Union) is the steep descent (as many alumni know) from Oread Ave. down 14th Street, where The Wheel and The Hawk (Jayhawk Cafe) are located en route to Massachusetts Avenue - Lawrence's downtown. KU was founded by abolitionists from Massachusetts; abolitionist Amos Adams Lawrence from Boston, Massachusetts helped to fund KU's original campus in Lawrence (named after him), Kansas. Downtown Lawrence is great with many restaurants, bars, shops befitting a college town, live entertainment venues, etc. A third traditional walk might take you from the Union to the WWII campanile and the Spencer Museum. KU is a great education; the breadth of course offerings is amazing. And the campus will keep any visitor or tourist in shape (and enthralled) with its wide-open spaces and many hills. It is a gem. And the people there are even better. If you went there, you know what I mean.

Haha - who reviews a university on Yelp, seriously?? KU is amazing - it's hard not to get nostalgic whenever I'm back in Lawrence walking down the hill toward the stadium on a gameday. There are maybe one or two schools in the country that share KU's strong basketball tradition - those games alone are enough to make anybody's 4 years amazing. I was fortunate to be there for a sweet 16, an elite 8, a final 4, and a championship game (loss). I'd go go Kansas again in a heartbeat and am always proud to tell people about my alma mater!

Beautiful campus, replete with interesting buildings, typical campus legends (Don't walk through the Memorial Campanile if you seek a diploma) and kind and accommodating students made for a fine visit. Free buses on campus to get around, including to downtown Lawrence, which itself is a gem of the Sunflower State. Also, I think early Kansans got together and donated all of its hills to this one particular University, based on the rest of the drive through the ol' Wheat State.

OK, I'll admit, I work here and I attend classes here. I may be biased. However, I've been a student at four different Universities in California, and not one comes even close to being as great as KU. What makes a college great? Great teachers? Check. Great departments? Check, especially in the Social Sciences. Great basketball team. Triple check. Great location? On the hill, in the blue dot, check. Great prices? Check. Great academic reputation? Check. Yes, it's a wonderful gem, and I hope the next hundred and fifty years are as good for KU as the first hundred and fifty have been.

How the heck do you write a review for your Alma Mater? I love the University of Kansas. Parents, children, wife, extended family members, and so many others close to me have graduated for KU. Why in the world would I give them anything less than a 5 star rating? But seriously, it's a great institution of higher learning as is Kansas State. Yes, I'm giving K-State the props they deserve too. Throw Wichita State in there as well. Just because we didn't attend or graduate form those other in-State schools doesn't mean they are bad schools to receive an education. KU has issues like any other school. We all know this. But this review will be given with crimson and blue sunglasses on. "Most" of the Professors at KU are top notch and truly care about their students. The resources available at KU are second to none. I'm talking academic and financial resources for anyone in need. There should never be an excuse for a person regardless of age, race, sex, or religion not to be afforded the opportunity to attend and graduate from the University of Kansas. Admissions has upped the ante lately with their standards which I think is a good thing. The University is making a concerted effort to diversify the student body more so than in the past. This too is a major step in the right direction. Parts of the campus is dated a bit, yet still beautiful & charming. Other parts of the campus is undergoing major renovations and new buildings are on the drawing board. The Fall and Spring scenery is unmatched at KU. The history of Athletics at KU deserves an entire review in itself. KU has a well respected Law School, Medical School, Business School, Pharmacy School, Accounting Program, Architecture Program, Engineering Program, Urban Development Program, Theatrical Program, Social Welfare Program, School of Education, and so many others I'm leaving out. I could literally write a 600 word essay why KU is such a great place. Just know we are lucky to have one of the finer Universities in the United States of America on many different levels.

I really enjoyed the classes that I took here. There are a lot of different degree programs, and the academic advisers were really helping me choose the best program and class. As an older student I found that the environment was very academic, and I was able to complete my degree in a timely manner. The community is great too and there are a lot of great restaurants.

Just came to see the basketball facilities. The Booth Hall of Fame (free) is an awesome look at the history of KU basketball. You can go upstairs and take a look into Allen Field House but you can't go on the court itself. Worth the trip if you're in the area or a die hard Jayhawk!

I love my school for reasons others have stated, but nothing is without its flaws. We do have a top notch Journalism program. It's not unheard of for people to get jobs because "KU Journalism" is on their resume, seriously. Similarly, students come from as far as India for our Engineering, pretty much any science (especially meteorology) and KU Med, and for good reason. It's just that our humanities programs are not all so hot. In particular if you are dead set on English, look elsewhere. Oh we have some good professors in the English department, like Carothers and McKitterick and Johnson won a Hugo (if she's still there) but most I've seen are not good and the program isn't run well.

Meh...living on campus = nothing special. I somehow survived thru the dorms (awesome Oliver and the horrific McCollum). For freshman year, I think I had maybe 2 classes total with actual professors, the rest with GTAs who didn't really give a shit. I was there on scholarship but I do believe they have decent prices for a state school (in-state at least) Dorm food was horrible, but somewhat less so at Oliver's cafeteria, being able to make your own stir-fry and stuff like that (rotating menu for the special food station) Lawrence is a great town, but I had enough bad experiences thanks to dorm life that I did not consider going back, and probably wouldn't recommend to anyone. (Can you say 5 fire alarms pulled during a snowstorm???) Regardless, I still proclaim Rock Chalk Jayhawk whenever possible!

This a great place for photos because the beautiful buildings and architecture, as well as the fountains. It's great for exercise because it's on a giant hill and there are tons of steps. It's also in Lawrence, Kansas which has great restaurants and character.

I'm a transplanted Californian in Kansas.... The first question I receive: "What the hell are you doing here, in Kansas? My answer: It's a great place for general education (particularly History, the Sciences, and Business), athletics, affordability, and graduate studies. Lawrence has a rich history, a great downtown, and great athletics year-round. If you go to this University and knock it... you haven't been to JuCo...

i dont like any pac 10 schools. sdsu aztecs aint no good, but i root for them anyway. i have family in kansas who went to ku, so why not... go jayhawks!

Gotta agree on ol' KU. No, it's not Harvard or Stanford, but for the money, for an undergraduate education, you can't beat it, especially the in-state tuition. The people are diverse yet friendly, and Lawrence is surprisingly an oasis of culture in the midwest. I try to make it back at least a couple of times a year, once for the splendor of autumn in Kansas to catch a KU football game, and once usually around Christmas.

Worth every penny : ) who can say in their time at college they went to the orange bowl and watched the football team win and then three months later we were national champions. Amazing school spirit and great places to eat, drink, relax, or party- whatever your style is.

Not too expensive, great college town and a good education. I was here for 4.5 years and had 3 majors. I love Lawrence!!

Best time of my life. The journalism school was my second family, and the friends I made will last a lifetime. Down-to-earth students, where the Midwest plains and nearby Kansas City converge for the perfect college town. Excellent education, and if you pick your classes wisely, you can have a very personal education. KU's out-of-state tuition was less than my home state's tuition. There are very few universities with as much school spirit as KU, especially during basketball season. It is such a beautiful setting, I just hope that I can convince my kids to go here one day, or talk my husband into retiring to Lawrence.

There to tour the Dole Institute. Great building on a great campus. Getting across campus can be a bit of a workout, but, all-in-all, a great place to visit. Rock-chalk...

Campus review only: One of the nicer large state university campuses I have been on (I recruit there sometimes for my company). Lawrence is also a pretty nice little tidy Midwestern city. Lawrence lies on the interstate and Kansas City is about 40 miles away making it feasible to take a day trip to a big city. Lawrence is in the northeastern part of the state which has a more varied terrain than the pool table/wheat field look that characterizes much of the state.
