The U Village’s New Mr. West Opens July 4 | Eater Seattle

"Recently the University Village shopping mall has been upgrading its dining and drinking options, and the addition of a second Mr. West is presented as another feather in the mall’s cap alongside other new food and drink entrants." - Megan Hill

I’m writing this review to share my growing concerns about the safety and management of University Village. Both me and my roommate got our bikes stolen in this apartment. Over the past few weeks, there have been plenty reports of stolen property such as bikes and scooters from residents who trusted that the complex would provide a safe living environment. One of my biggest issues with this apartment is the lack of functioning security cameras. Residents have repeatedly asked about camera coverage, only to find out that many cameras either don’t work or aren’t actively monitored. Without operational cameras, there is no way to identify suspects or provide evidence to support police reports. This not only leaves current theft cases unresolved but also sends a message that resident safety is not being prioritized. What makes the situation even more frustrating is the lack of preventative measures being taken even after multiple incidents. Instead of increasing patrols, repairing cameras or even adding cameras at the bike racks, management hasn’t taken any visible action. Meanwhile, more students are losing expensive items that they rely on for daily transportation. Residents deserve to feel safe at home. We shouldn’t have to worry every time we lock up a bike or leave something outside overnight. A complex that advertises itself as student-friendly and secure should take theft seriously, invest in proper surveillance, and communicate transparently with the people who live here. University Village needs to take accountability, repair their security systems, and implement meaningful safety measures before more residents become victims of preventable theft. Until then, I cannot recommend this complex to anyone looking for a safe place to live.

These were photos were taken on the first day I moved in. I told the office and they told me to clean it myself. This is just some of the things that I had to deal with. Disgusting place with management that can be very nice when speaking to you but can’t and won’t do much to help you out with any of your problems. Maintenance crew was very friendly but there’s only like 3 of them for the entire complex and there’s mountains of work for them. The common areas remained disgusting especially the dumpster. There is no recycling. Wi-Fi never worked. Lots of days were your water will be shut off for hours due to maintenance. Pay for gated parking only for the parking lot gate to not work for months, so it was kept open. Please do not waste your money there. They are predatory and not worth the time. Beware most of the positive reviews are current and past staff trying to bump up the rating.

Jasson was very friendly and knowledgeable when giving the tour. He was able to answer all my questions and provided important information I didn't know to ask. If all the complex staff is as helpful as he is, I bet it will be a great place to live.

Ashley, our guide, was amazing! She was down-to-earth and honest. She made this tour enjoyable and peaceful. I loved how interactive she was which made this all the more better. She is part of the reason I would love to secure my spot! As far as the Village, it was very clean, welcoming, and had a divine atmosphere. I love the community interaction and appreciation. It smelled amazing. The security was top notch, it feels very safe. As far as amenities, there is so many. I love that I wouldn't only be paying for an apartment but also a clean home.

The new front desk staff are really unreliable and don’t seem to know what they’re doing. They often give out wrong or missing information. My friends and I have taken tours on different dates, and each time we were given different answers. We were initially told that we might not get to be roommates, but then we were told they could place us together. Whoever hired these new front desk workers should reconsider their choices because none of them are helpful. They seem unsure of their answers and lack basic customer service skills. The front desk used to be run by knowledgeable people, but now it’s a mess. Because of the inconsistent information, my friends and I ended up signing a lease at Copper Beach Townhomes instead.

The only good thing that came from living at these apartments were my roommates that I met. Other than that this place was disgusting and had horrible management. I had mold issues inside my apartment and the only thing they told me was wait for black fuzz to grow until they did something. The ac units are old so when you have the ac on it doesn’t cool the apartment down right away and by the time it does your bill is well over $300. When touring the apartment they will show you their updated floor plan but when moving in they assign you a 2000’s looking apartment that has nasty carpet(walked on it barefoot the very first day of moving in and my feet were black), walls that have layers of paint(because they cover up what they don’t want people to see), and tile that is red and a tannish looking color. When looking at my account balance I had unknown charges that were never listed on the lease so be careful about that. The staff are all college students and they are not all on the same page. During move out I walked up to a staff and had asked about dropping my keys off into the Dropbox in a baggy(as it says on the email that I received) and she said yes to just go inside and someone will be in there if you need help. As I walked in I had asked where the Dropbox was and the staff that was in there told me “oh, yes that’s weird cause we don’t have it anymore” and kept questioning about how the email said that there was an after hour drop off. She made me wait till another staff member came in and once that staff member walked in(after waiting well over 10 minutes) I was able to hand her my keys with no problem(and the office was not opened).

Great place, Great staff! My friends and I came by for a tour a few weeks back and were lucky enough to get our tour guide Aurora! She showed us all of the extra amenities and decent sized bedrooms/bathrooms. She also gave us all the information we needed and more. They was also a helpful board that had the costs of the other apartments, which helped us because the costs were a huge factor. She was able to tell us how much cheaper it is compared to the dorms(she even called my parents to explain the cost difference and benefits). She also went above any of the other tours we took and gave us some advice on resources to use as students to help with the costs of groceries like Cal fresh and the student cupboard. She even reached out to us to make sure we didn’t forget about the price increasing, which we made sure to sign before we forgot.(thank you!) We are all excited to live here in the fall!

Jasson was very kind and caring when it came to the tour. He answered any questions that I had during and after the tour. Overall, UV is a very nice place to live in and is very clean unlike most apartments!!!!
