Having been to most of the 3-stars in Kyoto, Uozuya’s 1-star understates its quality. The chef was acclaimed by our dinner party as a maestro and a genius, combing locally fresh and quality ingredients in unique yet very Kyoto styles. Each sauce seemed perfectly tailored to optimize the course it was served with. If you appreciate Japanese ceramics, you’ll feel you are eating off a museum’s collection, and if you don’t…you soon will. The restaurant’s style - punctuated by a thirty foot solid wood bar - was simple, elegant, comfortable and welcoming. To call the experience life changing wouldn’t be far from the truth. Can’t wait to return.
