15 Reasons to Love Biddeford and Saco’s Growing Restaurant Scene | Eater Maine

"This dark, vintage-themed bar gets its name from the two flights of stairs you traverse on your way in, but also the phrase “on the up and up.” The owners are winning customers over with cheap cocktails and welcoming “living room” environs replete with books, video games, and an outdoor porch." - Kate McCarty

Can't say enough great things about this place. All the staff are welcoming, friendly, and great at their jobs. The drinks are all delicious and not overpriced like most bars in the Portland area. The vibe is immaculate, and they have a bunch of old school game systems (I will always be at the N64 table). The bar itself is super unique and quirky. AND they give you free popcorn and nachos. If anyone tells you anything negative about Up & Up, they're a terrible person and not to be trusted.

I love this bar 🍸 One of a kind vintage drinks and old fashion video games, Pac-Man etc as table's and leather sofas. Very nice. Best lemon 🍋 drops ever. 😋

So, it’s 1989, and your friend has a party in his parents’ basement. He has all the cool video games, for sure, but it’s his parents’ basement, with their furniture and their decorations and the old or new movies playing on their TV, so you’re trying to act all adult and drink adult drinks. The bathrooms are upstairs—will his parents still be up? But the music is awesome, and the vibe is mellow and the company is just right. And the drinks are really good. That’s every night at Up & Up. Just perfect.

I heard about this place from a friend who moved to Saco and discovered it on a whim. We went to check it out as a group and had such a fun night. We thought the free snacks and free food was probably just a rumor we heard, but sure enough our server was bringing over popcorn, chips and nacho cheese, and slices of pizza. We tried a number of different cocktails that were all a hit (the espresso martini was a favorite of our group). Everything about the atmosphere, the music, the games, and the people made this a really fun night out. It felt old school somehow and I hope that never changes.

Yelp
The drinks are appropriately priced and so delicious!!! I got a blueberry mule and it was incredible. The vibes are immaculate too, the lighting is so nice and the deck is amazing too to get some fresh air. The bartender Jacob is so welcoming and friendly, really elevates the experience :)

Yelp
Fun & creative little spot on main St! Love to stop in and play games with friends! Alicia is the best. She's always checking in and recommending the best drinks! We love their freshly crafted strawberry drop & Blue berry mules!

Yelp
If I could give this 10 stars, I would! My new favorite spot in the area. It feels like a speakeasy... the entrance door is unmarked, you walk upstairs and then there is a curtained door to enter the bar. I was so excited by the retro game systems scattered throughout the bar to play. The drinks and snacks were very affordable and I was impressed by the breadth of drink options. Staff was friendly. Quick note- they are cash only but do have an ATM on site!

Yelp
This place is SUPER FUN! What an awesome idea to have a speak-easy type bar in downtown Saco! They are very game focused here, with lots of old stand up arcade games, board games, as well as video games that are INSIDE THE TABLES! I just about lost my you know what when I saw they had a super nintendo hooked up to a table! Drinks are adequately priced, staff is super friendly, and the overall ambience is definitely very speak-easy esque. It is right above Vic & Whits on route 1 in downtown Saco, so there is usually plenty of parking around. The only drawbacks that I saw were that it is cash only (really?!) and that they close at 9 (again, really?!). A bar that is cash only and closes at 9 is kind of unheard of these days. If they addressed those two things I would definitely frequent this place more often!

Yelp
Love it!!! Lemon drop martinis are the best. Great beer selection. Jacob is very funny and an excellent bar tender. Free snacks and games. Awesome.

Yelp
The real reason you guys didn't serve me tonight (on my girlfriends birthday) was not because the ID with my photo on it that is not fake and simply expired 5 days ago on my birthday, was after your bartender read the name Mohammed. I'm a returning customer and I've never been treated in a more terrible way in Up & Up and never thought I'd face any discrimination in my own town. We'll see what my lawyer has to say about this. Thanks for ruining the start of a great night.

Yelp
This was such a good find! Reasonably priced drinks, nice staff and such cool ambiance. Super Nintendo was IN the table! Very cool retro vibe where we sat, but also chandeliers, lights and couches on the other side of the bar. They also have a small patio. Did I mention they had free snacks! Definitely worth checking out!

Yelp
Love this little spot. You walk in and immediately feel like you are in a speakeasy, which I love! They do keep it quite dark so you have to ask for a light to read the menu, which they supply an accordion-like light, so cool. They have delicious drinks at a good price point. The night we were there they had homemade pumpkin, chocolate cookies. Could quite possibly be one of the best cookies I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying. I had 3, yes 3! They also have chips & cheese dip as well as pizza slices ... complimentary. There is a cute little patio to enjoy in the nice weather. Don't miss out, go to Up & Up, you will love it.

Yelp
I love love love this place. Fantastic drinks and atmosphere. The staff are so friendly and always check on you to make sure you're enjoying your drinks. I had the corpse revivor and it was incredible... PLUS they have free snacks

Yelp
Amazing nostalgic bar! Very comfortable and casual atmosphere. They have a variety of video games to play while you're enjoying wine, cocktails or beer at their booths. The staff is incredibly inviting and friendly, making casual conversation easy. The beverages are affordably priced, well poured, and delicious. They even offer free popcorn, chips & and pizza slices!!! The only set back would be that they only accept cash, but that's easy enough to plan ahead for, or you can use the ATM directly within their establishment. Highly recommend. I for one know that I'll regularly be back.

Yelp
This bar was such a great find! It's classy and current and an awesome addition to the local bar scene. They have lots of games - including old Nintendo games for everyone to play. The music was classic hits dating back to Sinatra. The drinks are friggen ridiculous! The strawberry drop was super awesome! And the surprise at the bottom is the best! Be sure to order one, or two or three.

Yelp
Cool new cocktail bar in the nice downtown section of Saco that is sorely lacking an inviting place to drink. Friendly owners with creative, fairly priced cocktails and a couple of choice local brews on tap - 2 of the 3 being from breweries within minutes of the bar (Barreled Souls and Banded Horn). There is a nice comfortable deck with seating that overlooks the main drag, and inside there are several couches and booths (two featuring old school video games/systems) along with the 6-seater bar. This is a welcome addition to the downtown, and I hope it succeeds. Cash only, but there's an ATM onsite.

Yelp
This is my favorite bar in Maine, if not the US. Free snacks! Retro games! Cool black lighting! Their drinks are delicious - I love the elderflower martini. Cash only, but there is an ATM inside!! A true gem.

Yelp
This place is such a hidden gem. Nowhere in the Saco/Biddeford area has an atmosphere quite like it. Great drink selection, video games, free food, and there's usually good music playing... It's cash only, but there's an ATM on site and the fee is like $1. The decor is complete nonsense and I mean that as an absolute compliment. The whole place feels like it should be in Brooklyn, and if it was it would be packed with hipsters. But hey look at that, it's in Saco so that's not an issue... We're lucky to have it.

Yelp
Oh the travesty of this establishment. I love to support new businesses and went here with high hopes for a fun night out. The ingredients of a decent place were all there. Some funky theme, outdoor seating, local brew, and newly opened. This proves that despite decent ingredients, you still need a competent owner to pull it together. The theme of this place is a disaster. Classic cocktails, but decorated in original Nintendo memorabilia. This could be overlooked if the owners weren't such a bag of idiots. Upon approaching the bar, we looked over the menu, ordered a few drinks from the list, and asked if a Moscow mule was available. The response was 'does that have milk in it?' After quickly dismissing that request, we were told that the owners were behind the bar, and neither was a bartender. They just opened a bar. - Strike 1 The other drinks were served, and were of reasonable quality, but we were immediately rushed to pay for them, before even trying them. - Strike 2 They only accept cash. I understand they just opened, but read on... The drink prices are high, real high. I can get a drink on the deck at Boon's overlooking the water for the same price, yet this place is overlooking nothing, except Main St in Saco. - Strike 3 I inquired if they had an ATM, at which time they told me they were a mom and pop operation and their ATM wasn't working. Not sure what being a mom and pop has to do with their ATM not working, but hey, no bartenders at a bar seemed logical, so general logic doesn't seem to apply to these folks. I drank my drink, played some Nintendo, and inquired to the owners about the cash only aspect. Were they planning on getting a credit card machine? The answer sealed the deal for me. To summarize, the gentleman stated that credit cards were the problem with america. They screw over the people who use them, and they screw the businesses that take them, and they were hoping to never take credit cards. - Strike 4 Now I understand that there is a fee with credit cards, usually around 3%. This is the 21st century, most people don't carry tons of cash around. Also I'm not responsible for the fact that you got a credit card and never paid anything off, and you don't have an understanding of how the world works, but I actually get PAID to use my credit card. To summarize, this place is run by the kids of the building owner. They don't understand what it takes to be successful.

Yelp
This new bar in Saco is absolutely great. Vic & Whits, the sandwich and beer/wine shop downstairs, has been around a while and makes great food while also having an incredible selection of a huge range of beers and wines. This new branch by the same owners, Up & Up, is called so as it is up two flights of stairs immediately when you enter the door. It's a great atmosphere with a full bar. Everything is reasonably priced, even the beers on tap and mixed drinks. It's an awesome, local place to grab a drink after work or spend Saturday night with your friends. Pretty casual atmosphere, so wear whatever you feel comfortable in. There are tons of games to play--everything from Nintendos at the tables to Jenga, Connect 4, etc. Definitely something for everyone. A few tables but also some big, comfy chairs. Lot of space to spread out and get comfy.

Yelp
Tried this bar for the first time it was cozy and inviting, the bartender was very up beat and seemed to enjoy his job! I was glad to see they had a decent selection of craft cocktails and my favorite, Downeast Cider available! Loved that you could play games as you drink and they seemed to have a very small selection of food available aswell, nothing special but good if you had the munchies, Definitely will go back.

Yelp
This is the best. Bartender is great! Fun atmosphere! If you request spice girls they will play it!

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere with great drinks!!! Friendly staff with unique Nintendo and Atari table games send this place to the top of my list. A must try!
