29 SF Coffee Shops For Getting Work Done - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Upfordayz is flooded with natural light thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows. It feels like a solarium, which is a much better place to spend a few hours than the cave you call a bedroom. Do you consider customer service a true indicator of a great establishment? Well I do! I was greeted with the kindest eye smile and welcoming which made me feel so good. Are you looking for the best sandwich around?! Do you value quality bread? Well look no further. I absolutely adore the cracked pepper turkey and pesto sandwich. The bread is simply amazing! I usually save one half of my sandwich for later but could not help myself today as I devoured my sandwich down to it's last bite. The flavor is like nothing else I've had. I will be back! Customer service, vibe and food is top tier. ✨️ So, in closing, if you are in the mood for a smacktastic sandwich and happen to be on Polk, go check them out. You will be happy you did! Simply delicious! Oh wait, they also have seasonal lattes right now, passion fruit and peach. Woooo!!!

Google
Lovely place with lots of light, freshly baked in-house sweet treats, amazing deliciously looking desserts, vegan options like bowls, salads, drinks. Amazing authentic chai (not diluted), freshly squeezed juices. They do have soy, oat milk etc. As far as I’m aware one vegan dessert which is carrot coconut something balls that looked fresh and healthy, I’ll try next time! Kind people and friendly service! You can also bath in the sun outside! My bowl had protein not only from tofu, but quinoa, edamame; super healthy kale, good fats from olives, roasted red bell peppers and fresh radishes! All ingredients in my tofu bowl tasted perfect with the right amount of seasoning and vinaigrette, also tofu was warm which is so nice). I usually don’t like quinoa but this bowl was well-balanced. I saw other people eating salads and they were looking hearty and generously portioned. Overall all their bowls looked to me nutritionally well-balanced, love this place!

Google
Nice cafe to get some work done! Plenty of seating and the vibe is nice and chill. We had a coffee and a croissant and I think they bake everything there. Nothing crazy or special about the place but they make decent pistachio croissants and the staff is friendly. Will be back to work here! They also have plug points!

Google
In my opinion, the bagel at this bakery is better than those at the famous bagel shop in New York. I ordered Delox Bagel, there are freshness, perfect harmony with bagel, cream cheese, salmon and vegetable. Amazing!!

Got a yogurt bowl - $12 but super filling + tasty. Staff were quick and everything felt high quality

Google
I am a huge fan, and critic, of Niçoise salads. Not only was my nicoise to-go salad from this establishment timely , but it was the perfect mix of fresh, crisp , and flavorful. The dressing was a perfect consistency , and there were equal portions of all my favorite nicoise accompaniments: egg, olives, peas, tomato’s, tuna, cucumber and lettuce. What a divine delicacy it was! Thank you Up For Dayz staff for your nourishing care!

Nicole S.

Google
Delicious food. The picture shows the wellness sandwich, it was more than I expected. The staff is very friendly

Google
The strawberry latte was super yummy but their “omg avocado toast” had too much olive oil and the bread was too hard to bite for my taste. Other than that, the customer service was super nice and the music they played was pretty nice too.

Yelp
A lot of selection from coffee, tea, smoothies, fruit bowls, sandwiches. Awesome in and out space, good for reading and catching up, the wifi is a bit slow for working. Order a blueberry matcha drink ($6.90) and banana coffee latte ($7.90) which were a great size and delicious. The blueberry is not too sweet and no graininess in matcha, compliments the drink well. Banana coffee latte uses fresh fruit, the shot of espresso has great aroma, more of a medium roast. Great cafe with delicious items for everyone

Yelp
I fear this is the worst matcha I've ever had in my life. As a cafe, it's a 4/5 with lots of seating, space, and natural lighting. Their menu is HUGE with lots of food options and even smoothies. However, their matcha is so crazy bad that I threw it away early on. Not mixed with the blueberry yet, it lacks flavor and just tastes like milk; it's also a super sad green color, not the rich green you would find with actual matcha. Mixed with the blueberry, it tastes like blueberry medicine. What's worse is that it was the staff recommended me the Blueberry Matcha. The blueberry puree was so thick and sweet that you have to stir hella hard just to not be drinking straight chunks of puree. It ended up being this bad gray green color, which is NOT normal; I've had blueberry matchas that were fantastic in flavor and color and it's still a dark rich green color. It seemed super unappealing and oddly thick.

Yelp
I girl bossed too hard and now I have two projects with deadlines coming up next week. So I instead went to UpForDayz Cafe & Bakery in Polk/Gulch to get some work done. I ordered a black sesame matcha latte with almond milk and their OMG Sandwich. The latte was good - not overly sweet and nutty from the almond milk and black sesame. The OMG sandwich comes with avocado, sliced hard boiled egg, and pomegranate seeds. But they ran out of pomegranate, so I got to choose my toppings. I got tomatoes and roasted red bell peppers. The sandwich, or toast rather, was yummy! The thickness of the bread was just right - not too thin where the olive oil over saturates the bread and not too thick where you can't fit it in your mouth. The tomatoes and roasted red bell peppers added the acidity, and the egg and avocado brought the savory notes. The vibes are on the casual side. There's some people with laptops, some with books, while others converse softly. And they have lots of loyal customers. The few times I've been there, there's always someone that one of the employees recognizes. This cafe has a lot to offer on their menu, from coffee, to sandwiches, to pastries. Definitely check them out if you're in the area.

Yelp
Super expensive for a cheap smoothie. I ordered the "Sam Shake". This included: strawberries, bananas and vanilla milk. It was 16 oz for $12. But when I received it, it wasn't even filled to the top and it seemed to be watered down. This was not worth the price nor the wait for 15+ minutes with barely anyone there.
google avatar

Yelp
This place was very mid... and pretty overpriced. There is a good amount of seating to do work so a great place for that. Starting with the bagel, honestly this was the redeeming factor because it wasn't too bad and was filling although again, pretty overpriced for what it is. As for the strawberry matcha latte, this was not good at all....it was so chalky and was also not the right shade of green for a matcha
google avatar

Yelp
A great spot to get some work done! Their egg and bacon bagel is amazing, it's a hearty, balanced breakfast bite with avocado and what tasted like sun dried tomatoes which I quite enjoyed. The passion fruit coffee was okay, but I'm not much of a coffee person and couldn't finish it. The bathroom is the one area that could use some TLC. It seems like it wasn't renovated like the outside areas and was a bit off-putting. It also was out of soap too which wasn't great.

Yelp
My friend and I came here for a cafe workday in the afternoon. There were plenty of seats still open and tables + outlets for working. Loved that there were so many food options, but we stuck to just drinks for the day. I got a blueberry matcha which was sooo yummy. The purée was perfectly sweet & very slightly tangy -- complimented the matcha so well. I do wish there was a lil bit more matcha or a lil less puree in the drink, but overall I really enjoyed my drink! Would recommend for a wfh or cafe run with friends. Lots of seating for any gatherings as well :)

Yelp
What a cute neighbor cafe that is walking distance from my office. I decided to stop by to pick up breakfast on my way work around 8:30am. There were only a few customers inside and plenty of tables available for those wanting to get some work done. It took me awhile to figure out what I wanted, but I ended up getting the OMG Sandwich. It's an avocado toast which consists of pomegranate and egg and of course avocado . The pomegranate was an interesting addition and paired so well the avocado. A savory breakfast that I would order again the next time I'm back.

Yelp
Great coffee shop to work and grab small bites and coffee. Service was quick and you can make items made to order. The blueberry matcha latte was really good and the blueberry at the bottom adds a sweetness to the matcha. All the food was good and the bread tasted really fresh!

Yelp
This place doesn't get enough love. I came here for the past two weekends to get some work done. On one weekend, I ordered the beet hummus sandwich (which is more of a toast). I had a particularly poor week of eating, so I wanted to order something that wasn't a total pastry but still felt delicious, indulgent, fresh, and nutritionally productive. This dish did not miss!! The toast was wayyyy bigger than I expected - an actual full meal - so the value was there. On the other weekend, I just got a turmeric latte. I'm pretty sensitive to caffeine, and while I did get a bit buzzed from the latte, I still felt petty good for most of the day! Environment: spacious, sunny corner cafe that feels very family-owned. Plenty of outlets for charging devices. Clean. The WiFi password isn't posted to my knowledge - don't be afraid to just ask nicely! Note: they prefer cash. Looking forward to working my way through more of the menu here!

Yelp
Fave spot for quality espresso and fresh juice in the neighborhood. On the pricer side but I do appreciate the extensive menu. I've been here a couple times and they do not disappoint with their drinks. Their lavender latte was one of my favorite options, as well as their ginger shots. Didn't love the strawberry espresso but the fruit puree was pretty good. I've also tried their lox bagel and for the price it was not my favorite. Overall, a nice place to hang out and early hours for those who need a pick me up.

Yelp
Had ordered a salad to go with a side of protein and requested salmon. Came home to salad with a ball of riocotta and I am lactose intolerant. Also, there was no dressing!

Yelp
I got here around 10:30 am on a saturday and it was a nice relaxing ambiance- great to do work. as time passed and 1-3 pm, it got very lively- a good mix of just friends hanging out and people like me on the grind. I camped out here till close- ofc buying snacks & drinks every so often. (a strawberry matcha, chipotle chicken sandwich and a latte not pictured between my boyfriend and I) the food and drinks were all delicious! lots of outlets! wifi :) and many seating! overall great place to hang and relax and get work done as long as you don't mind a busy environment :)

Yelp
I sat outside about one to two months ago ..I thought I would try it ...offered the blueberry matcha latte ..tried banana latte ..more banana ..the straw is not big enough boba straw ...a different cafe out of so many ..morning on Polk ...empty one across the street Review #3180

Yelp
This cafe is a great place to sit and study/work. It is mid size with a good amount of seating and didn't get too busy on a Saturday afternoon. I also like that there is a lot of natural lighting and music as a reasonable background noise. We got a acai bowl and a take me away shake. The food was decent but pricey as it was $27 for these 2 items. The acai bowl had a lot of granola and not as much acai as I would have liked. The shake was simple as it was just mixed berries, banana, and milk. Overall, this is a good cafe to sit and work a bit but I wouldn't go out of my way for the food.

Yelp
The breakfast menu- bagel toasted 2X cheese egg and bacon with avocado . It was delicious. So it the pistachio treats, primarily the bakery is in house, made by them. The sweet treats are my point of contact. Such as the chocolate swirls with crème and glaze and / or nuts graveled all the way from one end of the pastry to the other end a-z.

Yelp
I had the scallion bagel, and it was perfect. It came with pickled onion, avocado, scallion cream cheese, tomato, and a poached egg (all of my favorite things). I also ordered an iced matcha with strawberry, and I loved that the strawberry tasted freshly made and not like a syrup, which makes such a difference. My friend had the bacon and cheese bagel with a tomato jam that he said was absolutely delicious. Great flavors, quality ingredients, and a chill vibe, definitely worth a visit!

Yelp
Really good cafe to get work done. They have tons of outlets, free WiFi, and lots of tables, so you don't feel like you're crowding a spot from others. I came on a Sunday morning, and by 10, the cafe was almost full; pretty lively and a good amount of regulars. I got a cortado, and it was just ok. Milk wasn't quite frothed right, and the espresso came out a bit too sour for my taste. They do make their own pastries, so I wish I had tried something! Will be back when I need to get work done, but not purely for the coffee.
google avatar

Kellie C.

Yelp
I ordered the blueberry matcha latte and it was so good! I really like the taste of their matcha and the blueberry was a nice touch. I thought, however, the blueberry jam/ reduction they used was a little too sweet. I ended up asking them to add more milk to my drink to dilute it. Still really good tho, I would come back !
google avatar

Ananya M.

Yelp
Wait. absolutely loved the veggie sandwich! nothing crazy literally just veggies + hummus and it was the perfect like veggie sandwich lol. also got the vanilla latte and it was quite good! would order from here/go again! $1 for oat milk is criminal though
google avatar

Phoebe W.

Yelp
Honestly, loved the matcha here! I think they have a variety of drink options, but me and my friend had ordered the strawberry and mango matcha. I would definitely recommend my drink of strawberry matcha. I also think the portion sizes are great for its price. The service is also quite quick!
google avatar

Paige G.

Yelp
Love getting work done here. Wifi is fast and there are many outlets throughout the cafe. There are many large windows for natural light and interesting people watching. Sort of random, but they have a really good music playlist that they play. Not only that, but their hazelnut cold brew is very good and not too sweet. I have tried the turkey sandwich which was also really yummy. Lastly, the service is great because the staff are so friendly!
google avatar

Christiane F.

Yelp
Loveeee this coffee shop!! It's a great place to work from and their pastries are amazing! Their strawberry matcha is amazing and the service is always great. The space is a good size and you can usually find a place to seat pretty easily on weekdays.
google avatar

Yelp
I wanted to love this place but everything tasted so bad. What I ordered: Sweet potato bowl; no flavor whatsoever and felt like I was eating mush. Granted, it was healthy and nutrient dense for my body, but again no flavor and tasted like flavorless mushed potato. I think adding a sweetener of some sort may help. Banana iced latte; no banana taste at all, tasted like a regular iced latte Banana bread; nice thick slice but incredibly dry and bland. I couldn't eat it and had to spit it out because it was soaking up all the moisture in my mouth. Ended up throwing everything in the trash :/ Staff is nice but the food was subpar and flavorless
google avatar

Claudia T.

Yelp
Food: fresh blueberry iced latte w/ oat milk (very good not overly sweet at all and the mix really works), hazelnut latte w/ om (again not overly sweet and a delicious hazelnut taste), croissant (eh it's all right not the best but it does it nothing out of this world), chipotle chicken sandwich w/ cheddar not Gouda (very delicious and so crispy loved it). Service: really amazing they even asked my name and remembered when I went last time. Very nice and cater to your needs 100% no problem Ambiance: very clean and fresh and located right in the corner. Both doors are open and there's plenty of sun and seating as well as WiFi. It's also right in front of the 19 and 27 bus stops which are ones I use for school. I just wish they were open every day (they're close Mondays) and closed later so that I can study late ! Overall will be a regular it's really good coffee
google avatar

Rochelle S.

Yelp
A very cute basic coffee shop with great food options. Stopped by this place while I was waiting on an oil change. It was pretty busy, but there are a lot of places to sit, so I could still get a table. I got a coffee and the lox bagel. Both were good, and service was lightning fast! It's a family run business, which I like. Also, they do have the pastry offerings most coffee shops would have but they also basically have an entire lunch menu with hot and cold sandwiches, smoothies, and salads. This is the place to go if you're wanting more than just a pastry.
google avatar

John P.

Yelp
Came in for a quick caffeine fix and was greeted by the cashier. Really great service because I didn't know what to get so she recommended the Hazelnut Cold Foam Cold Brew. On a caffeine level, it's good, but it tasted a bit watered down. The flavor wasn't as strong as I would've hoped. I was a bit surprised that it was just okay because it was their popular drink. I'd have to try something else next time. The inside is really clean and it has a lot of natural light. It's seems like a great place to work from. Overall, just okay in my opinion. Maybe I have to try something else to change my mind.
google avatar

Polina L.

Yelp
This place has a lovely interior and spacious rooms, which I really enjoyed. The croissant was delicious, though I think it could have used a bit more crunch. The softness might have been due to the cream cheese and strawberry filling. I didn't try the coffee since my visit was unplanned, and I was already quite full, but my friend, who visits often, says the coffee is excellent. I'm definitely interested in returning to try more of their offerings.
google avatar

Serena M.

Yelp
Update: I recently went back and I think they changed their strawberry syrup to something that tasted a bit more artificial. I still think their breakfast foods are great & I want to try their other coffees. In my experience, wouldn't return for the strawberry latte or the pastries.
google avatar

Kevin P.

Yelp
Came in after grabbing lunch nearby and the interior is pretty cute! They have a huge menu with a bunch of pastries like croissants and danishes. I ended up ordering the iced banana latte with whole milk and asked if they use syrups in their drinks and they said no syrups in any drinks, which is a good thing if you're a bit more health conscious. The banana latte had real smashed banana and that added a hint of sweetness, which was nice. Overall, would come back and enjoy other drinks :)
google avatar

Kenya M.

Yelp
Popped in here during unexpected rain. Service was nice. Tried a banana latte that we thought would be made with banana flavoring but was actually mushed banana at the bottom. No regrets!
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious neighborhood coffee with great healthy options and coffee of great quality. The vibe is cool and modern and it's my favourite spot post workout? Service was fast, flavors were great, big portions and nice cakes!
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent service, great coffee spot with wifi. Many WFH customers here looking very productive :-) Love the hummus bowl for a nice healthy lunch option.
google avatar

Amber D.

Yelp
Super cute cafe with a lot of options for tea, coffee, shakes, and pastries! The cafe has many windows so it is super sunny inside in the mornings. Staff are welcoming and the service is speedy!
google avatar

M S.

Yelp
All the hot drinks I tried so far (latte, mocha, & cappuccino) are just okay and overpriced. The iced fruit lattes are too watery and not good. The food and pastries are nothing special. You can easily make better salads at home. There are other places that offer better similar food and drinks around there.

Emily L.

Yelp
Great addition to the neighborhood! Sunny, clean, contemporary decor, usually lively but room to find a seat indoors or out. Favorite things include Minty tonic (iced espresso in tonic water with mint syrup and cream), the carrot cake (moist and full of raisins and nuts - not too sweet). The sandwiches, salads, and morning buns are all good too. It's clearly a family run place, and they are all kind and welcoming. Oh, and they offer a variety of sizes of coffees unlike some of the other coffee shops on Polk - thank you!
google avatar

Rita A.

Yelp
Wow!!!! Very highly recommend this place! Owners are so hospitable and welcoming and the food is outrageously good! So well priced too! Love this place so much and everything is so healthy! Get their salads the dressings are all divine too! Their mango matcha is delicious aswell as their carrot cake. The bagels and sandwiches are also banging and so full! The ambiance is perfect! It's a relaxing atmosphere where many people come to work. Love this place and the owners so much!

Yelp
Upfordayz will definitely have you up! My companion found this cafe for us to try since I'm a sucker for a nice sit-down spot serving specialty drinks. The cafe is quite spacious as it's situated on the corner. A lot of beautiful natural light allows an airy ambiance to take over the clean and minimalistic setting. There are plenty of tables and outlets for diners to sip, sit, talk, or work but most customers take it to-go. The shop promotes the usage of local ingredients and freshly made beverages and bites. Service by all is delightful and items are crafted in efficiency. Ordering is done easily at the counter and items are called out by name. Everywhere I looked, my eyes took in what was offered. Sandwiches, salads, health bowls, and pastries are available for those with an appetite. Drinks included juices, shakes, espressos, teas, plus specialty beverages. As a matcha lover, they have so many creative matcha options which is awesome! I had to get their Blueberry Matcha Latte with Soy Milk. This was my first time trying a blueberry matcha and I was a fan! I found the matcha to be light and subtle while the puree was on the chunkier side which was sweet and syrupy but had a hint of tartness. Mixed together was a well-balanced drink that I would order again. However, I am curious about their Strawberry Matcha. My companion ordered a hot Cha Cha tea and enjoyed it. This is an ideal neighborhood cafe nestled off of Polk that serves the community. It wouldn't be a place I'd go out of my way for but they do have plenty of options (dairy alternatives, vegetarian, vegan). They also have a location in the Mission district that I may check out in the future.
google avatar

Lizzie S.

Yelp
I was a fan of their Valencia St outpost but this is location is a great addition to Polk Gulch! I love their coffee (they have so many options!) and they bake their pastries/baked goods in-house. They don't need to go that hard but they do that--for us! The interior is very welcoming and I love seeing people come here to work, read, write, and just take in the atmosphere. Service is always a delight.

Yelp
Hmm, this was a way different experience at this cafe versus the same-name cafe on Valencia, granted that prior experience was about three years ago. What I remember was a place that focused on their artisan coffee and going to the nth level in customizing each order. That's probably ideal for the coffee connoisseur but for a joe-on-the-go type like me, not as much. This cafe had a different vibe entirely and felt like it might be family-run given how well coordinated the staff is here. There was also a strong emphasis on the tempting Middle Eastern-style desserts in the display case. Frankly my eye was more drawn to that rather than their less visual caffeine selection. I went for the $4.75 Medium Dark Vienna Roast. It was cutely called 'You Will Jump' for its notes of caramel, chocolate and cashew, apparently 18 years in the making (photo: https://bit.ly/43dhihY). It was smooth and a nice complement to the $6.45 slice of Fruit & Pistachio Cake, which was tasty but slightly stale from sitting in the case presumably most of the day (photo: https://bit.ly/3MqsqC4). I obviously didn't hold a grudge because I came back a couple of months later. This time I tried the aromatic $5.45 Latte which had hints of turmeric and ginger (photo: https://bit.ly/3KI03y0). That should have been dessert enough for me, but I indulged in a $6.45 slice of the Red Velvet Cake which tasted fresher and sweeter than the pistachio (photo: https://bit.ly/41cOoNk). It was fairly well packed on both visits, but there was always room at the counter if you swoop in before the laptoppers unplug. COFFEE / DESSERT - 4 stars...pretty consistent on coffee quality, desserts may need more refrigeration AMBIANCE - 4 stars...busy congregation spot for locals but somehow getting a seat is not that hard SERVICE - 4 stars...quietly attentive though talkative to each other TOTAL - 4 stars...definitely more of a cafe than I remember RELATED - Exploring Russian Hill? Yelp
Such a great spot! Can't believe I live so close and had never been before until a couple of weeks ago. Owner is lovely. Food and coffee is great. Tons of seating with WIFI. Perfect cafe to go work from for a few hours. I'll be back!

Yelp
Cool little coffee spot. Nothing to call your mother about but if you're on the neighborhood you will probably stop in often. On a busy part of Polk street so if you are walking by and need a little pit stop it will do the trick. I only had the blueberry muffin. Looks were a 4.9/5 but the taste was like a 2.6/5. The iced coffee wasn't very strong. The sandwich and food options looked good. The other pastry options looked good. But if it's consistent with the muffin then it might catfish your tastebuds. All in all the people were nice it's a good vibe in there. Can't complain. (3.8 Stars)

Yelp
Three and a half stars. My cashier and barista get 5 stars. I needed a quick pick me up and was a bit curious about their coffees. Got myself a black shakerato. It was decent tasting with a touch of oatmilk. It did it's job to be honest. I did wake up. However their croissant was so so if I have to be honest. I guess living in Europe spoiled me. The service was impeccable and the cleanliness was superb.

John D.

Yelp
Coffee isn't great. Also don't spell your name for the cashier she gets really pissed off for no reason.

Yelp
Walked by this coffee shop couple times already and always wanted to tried. Finally make a day trip walk to the Polk street Upfordayz cafe. Been hoping to tried their in store made flat croissant cookie. We also grab the cheese bread stick with seeds and no sugar added blueberries ice latte! The flat croissant cookie is sooo thin and crunchy. The cheese stick with Cheddar cheese and garlic is so flavorful and fresh. The blueberry ice latte with fresh blueberry fragrance but not over powering the in house roasted coffee flavor. Supper good! This store needs more publicity. They are family business, dad and mom men the bakery ( you can see them working in the kitchen through the glass window). Dad also roast coffee too. Son and family members work in the front of the cafe! Two guys next to our table both said " great sandwich" after they finished theirs! They also make lot of choice of toast options and salads! We need to come back try their sandwiches next time. The store has lot of seating indoor and outdoor.

Yelp
This is a terrific addition to the neighborhood. Huge menu of coffee, tea, juices, smoothies, and food. I have experienced a mix of bad and good things here. The good list is longer, hence the four stars ultimately. The bad: -vegan Mint Matcha Shake was too watery (more like a juice than a shake), so overpriced. -Apple Butter Latte was very disappointing. It definitely didn't qualify as a latte because it was so strong in the coffee:milk ratio that you couldn't taste the milk or the apple butter flavor. I ended up throwing it away after a few sips. -I wish they offered real coffee cups and saucers instead of paper cups for people dining in, but this isn't a big issue. The good: -vegan Green Gate Shake -Strawberry Matcha Latte -friendly staff -ambiance: Very sunny, large space with lots of tables and outlets for people working on laptops, good for people watching. -one large unisex bathroom is available

Yelp
Great, clean cafe to relax or do some work in. It's super bright and colorful with big windows and a good amount of food options. I got a strawberry matcha latte with oat milk and loved it. Sweet but not too sweet. I only wish the menu had clearer prices -- some of the items don't have any. Also, the Wi-Fi is not bad but not super fast.
