"It seems like Upland was put on this planet to please as many people as possible. This restaurant works well for almost any occasion, whether it's a casual lunch or a celebratory night out. The expansive dining room feels like the world's nicest Williams Sonoma, and the California-inspired menu includes pasta, pizza, and lots of vegetables. But design buffs should also take note: the interior here (by Roman and Williams) is just as stunning as the kale sausage pizza. "Upland works for everything. Dinner, lunch, brunch—the American restaurant does it all, and has room for every single member of your book club or extended family. The huge space, with its dark green booths and jars of preserved lemons, looks like it fell out of a Williams Sonoma catalog, and the California-inspired dishes are both slightly boring and very reliable. "Upland is great for dates, birthdays, meals with friends, and dinners with aunts and uncles who only call you when they’re in town to see Wicked for the tenth time. But more than anything else, Upland is great for client dinners. With its checkered tablecloths and jars of preserved lemons, the high-ceilinged dining room has a wholesome Americana feel, and the California-inspired menu is full of classics. Have some pizza, cacio e pepe, or seared salmon with barley risotto. "The best restaurant in Murray Hill and one of the best restaurants in the entire city. Good luck getting in. Your best bet is to hit it for lunch if you can get away from work for two hours on a Tuesday. If you can, nice job at career selection. Order the burger and the Five Lettuce Caesar." - simona sudit
