The Best Restaurants in Gothenburg, Sweden

"If you’d prefer your view to be of the city rather than the food, Upper House is the place to go. It sits on the 25th floor in the hotel of same name, offers superb panoramic views over the city and has a certain air of formality about it. Lengthy menus are made up of dishes with an innovative, playful element to them—you even get to watch your bread being cooked over a hot stone at your table." - The MICHELIN Guide Nordic Editorial Team

Upper House is a first class living experience like no other. From a dedicated check in to the included spa to the restaurant with amazing views, Upper House offers a distinctive hospitality experience. Reception are kind and knowledgeable, offering their services to make staying here even more enjoyable. Molly is very kind and was a welcome face after a long day. The morning breakfast is full flavored and super healthy and perfect for everyone including kids. We lived this breakfast and it made us all the better throughout the day. The spa is unimaginable. Beyond compare. And Eric our guide explained the process and for that we had an amazing experience. The outdoor see through pool is a cool novelty. But as you venture into the spa you become immersed in an other worldly sensation. Downstairs we had a night cap and Vord was there to support our fun. He was funny and informative and the perfect person to train anyone in hospitality how to create great guest experiences. The restaurant/bar on the 25th floor is a great destination for cocktails after a day touring. Great experience all through the hotel. Warm, kind, helpful employees who make you feel at home.

This hotel was great but there were some inconveniences that made it worse. Staff was very rude, would not let me sit in the lobby. Went to spa and brought the hotel slippers from my room when I exited they thought I was taking there shoes explained many times that they were mine and then took my shoes and left me with spa shoes. Location is good

Basic hotel rooms. Slightly sterile spa. Breakfast was mediocre. Relaxing and quiet spa but you have to leave to a separate floor for any beverages other than a single water machine. When my time was done and I wanted to get an actual ice cold water to drink at reception to take back to my room it was prohibited. Instantly ruining a moment of peace I desperately needed. Silly rules that ruined a potentially good experience.

Excellent expérience. Room was big and comfortable with a nice view. Bathroom was comfortable and provided for. The spa area was interesting and large. We also liked the post-spa leisure area to drink tea and eat some fruits. The breakfast was excellent, very good hot chocolate and options. The service was excellent, probably the best service we have had in Sweden. The employees are adorable and really willing to help. Will definitely recommend.

We had an absolutely lovely stay at Upper House, Gothia Towers. We stayed in Gothenburg for 5 nights for the World Masters Athletics Championships, before driving across to Stockholm. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was beautiful - the positioning of the bed meant you had the views of the city through floor to ceiling windows. A lovely seating area with a sofa and small table. The bathroom was spacious with a large bath and separate rain shower. The shower did flood into the bathroom which was unfortunate and meant mopping up the water with towels after every use. This was reported to staff but didn’t spoil our stay. The spa was a really lovely extra included with the Upper House room booking. The gym was the best hotel gym we’ve ever used. Fully equipped and super clean. A great selection of machines and free weights. The location was perfect - easy access on foot to all parts of the city. Tram and bus stops were a short walk from the hotel and the timetable was easy to work out using the app. Slottsskogen Park/Botanical Gardens were a 4km walk from the hotel or a 15 minute tram ride. The city centre and shops were less than 1km away. Beautiful parks with rose gardens and palm houses were a short walk away. I’d highly recommend this hotel.

I've been to the bar frequently during my travels to Gothenburg. The view is stunning, and it's a fantastic place to enjoy some good cocktails. But more importantly, the service is top class. Their bar keeper Philip is excellent and really goes out of his way to cater to our needs every time. Kudos to him, and to Upper House.

I had an excellent stay and experience at this hotel. The staff were very friendly on check in. The room was excellent. Housekeeping did an excellent job cleaning my room daily. I loved the Daisy breakfast buffet included with my room. I especially loved the hotel spa which was also part of the room. The outdoor heated pool, steam rooms, sauna and entire spa was excellent and over the top.

Yelp
My favorite dining experience in all of Gothenburg. You're not just eating delicately prepared food. You're also enjoying the most gorgeous aerial view of the city. The coffees are tasty and they have a morning buffet that served the best breakfast I've ever had. Porridges are underrated! And make sure you try their bread and herring!

Yelp
Amazing view and excellent service! This is a perfect restaurant to celebrate a special occasion or take friends and visitors when they come into town. I made reservations about a month in advanced, I wouldn't chance it with this place it seems to book up. The restaurant is located in gothia towers and most tables sit towards the view of the city and liseberg. They have classic elevated Swedish food, and a good selection of wine. My partner and mom got the shrimp sandwich and it was a huge, the speciality for sure. I got the pea appetizer and it was amazing - so fresh and interesting. The cocktails were really well done and the service was great!

Yelp
When determining where we were going to be dining for our last night in Sweden, Upper House became a strong contender months in advance as we were planning our trip. We didn't realize we would also be staying at the hotel the final night until we were on our trip, but the restaurant was without debate. We were excited to see that the kitchen has a Michelin star even though it is only for the fine dining side. There are two options for dining here, the fine dining set menu and the al la carte more casual dining. Both the same kitchen and same chefs so we went for the casual option. The dining room is really beautiful with windows framing the walls to give a gorgeous view of the city. The restaurant is simple and modern with intimate candlelight and minimalist yet elegant design. There's an interesting lit up water design on the ceiling. Our server was very professional and explained all the options available for me being a member of the gluten free ihatewheat allergy club. There were several items I didn't think I would be able to enjoy and the kitchen was able to modify them which was fantastic and further elevated my dining experience. The husband and I decided to sample several items together. We started with a cheese plate that our server put together for us from a cheese display at the front of the restaurant. They brought out gluten free bread for me and we enjoyed a variety of cheeses and jam. The next tasty bites that made their way to us was the omelette truffle cream cheese which was undoubtedly my favorite dish of the night. I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about the omelette and a black truffle cream cheese but it was absolutely decadent. The husband isn't a big fan of shellfish so I went for the scallop with dill cream which was beautifully presented but not one of my favorite flavor profiles of the night. The husband ordered the herring curry which was tempura fried and I was not expecting to get to taste. The kitchen prepared it gluten free for me and I really enjoyed sampling it and it was the husband's favorite dish of the night. The final bite was the pork belly which was a little disappointing. The pork belly was great but the accompanying cabbage was very acidic and there was a lot of it, more than we were able to eat with the pork. The same was true with an incredible beef cheek but very sour acidic pumpkin. The breakfast the next morning was fantastic. We really enjoyed the hot options that were available off the menu as well as the cold selections set up in buffet. The server this morning was again professional and detailed. Overall our dinner and breakfast demonstrated that professionalism and presentation are in the forefront of the dinning experience here. The menu items we tasted were also very nice with some of them being fantastic and others not quite being what we were expecting. Overall though, a really good dining experience.

Yelp
Outstanding food and a memorable experience. Honestly, if you're looking for family dining, this is not the place for you. But if you want to experience fine dining in an unforgettable atmosphere overlooking Gothenburg then upper house is a must. The sampler menu is like nothing I've experienced before 11 courses from appetisers to coffee treats, and with the wine package you get some of the best wines in Sweden paired with each course. As well as the wine and food the serving staff are top notch everything is presented with elegance and a little history of the regions and winery.

Yelp
Excellent experience! This restaurant is heading for not just one but two Michelin stars! And they certainly are on their way! Professional and personal service. For best experience and extra splurge - go for the sample menu and the wine menu to that. Located on the top floor (25th) with modern Scandinavian furnitures this place definately has the best view of the city. Accept AMEX.

Yelp
Me and my family dressed up and emptied our bank accounts and moseyed down (or should I say up) to the Upper House Lounge, the simpler version of the otherwise highbrow restaurant. The menu is shorter and the prices are a bit more family friendly than in the main part of the restaurant. We were greeted by a friendly woman that took our coats and showed us our table. The view from the 25th floor is absolutely fantastic. We were informed by the friendly waiter that the kitchen was closing soon and politely urged us to hurry up with our orders. So we did. We had canapés for starters and were given good advice on the white wine. There is not enough space here to describe the canapés-- they were incredible. We then had the turbot all around and it was perfectly cooked. We skipped dessert since we were all very full and at the end of our money. The service was impeccable and the waiter charming and friendly. This would have been a perfect dinner had the waiter not cut in on our conversation (I was appalled) and had there not been a lot of hassle to get our coats from the cloakroom. So much for professionalism. The tab was around a thousand crowns per person, which I find a bit too much. My final verdict will still be a warm recommendation to visit the Upper House Lounge on a sunny day when you can admire the view, excellent cooking and friendly service. And by all means do try the canapés!
