I recently had the pleasure of attending a show at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming, setting the perfect tone for an evening of laughter and entertainment. The performers were incredibly talented, showcasing quick wit, sharp improvisation skills, and a natural flair for comedy. Each act brought something unique to the stage, keeping the audience engaged and laughing non-stop. The chemistry among the cast members was palpable, adding to the spontaneity and charm that UCB is renowned for. What stood out the most was the intimate setting of the theater, which created a close connection between the performers and the audience. It felt personal and immersive, making the comedic moments even more impactful. The staff was friendly and organized, ensuring everyone had a great experience from start to finish. Whether you're a longtime fan of improv or new to the scene, visiting the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre is a must. I left with my spirits lifted and a smile that lasted long after the show ended. Highly recommended for a night of top-notch comedy!

I am across the country in the Tri-State area. I bought a $10 ticket to watch The Smokes and The Big Team via live stream and ... both groups were fantastic. The call backs were so funny in each group. I am not feeling well; I'm grateful you get 7 days to watch the live stream. *I contacted UCB because I had not received my live stream link; I got an immediate reply (it was a small misunderstanding on my part). I have to say that the person whom I was in touch with immediately helped me and also explained that since I wasn't feeling good that I had 7 days to watch the live stream. I couldn't have been happier with this woman's kindness and humor. The Big Team started with only two members there to perform, which was totally OK, as the ticket sales area makes it clear that the players in each group may be different on the day of the show. These two guys from the Big Team were so in sync and SO funny!!! I recently heard Carl Tart on an older Bonanas For Bonanza podcast episode, so seeing him work live with one of his partners -- and then, halfway through the show, another one of their "Big Team" group showed up and jumped right in without missing a beat, my goodness, they were so funny!! I love that both groups thought so outside the box and they were funny because of the choices they made-- and watching them stick to those choices without breaking was so funny, too. I enjoyed The Big Team so much, I already bought my ($10) ticket for the May 2nd show. Logistics: The stage is the perfect size and the live stream filming and audio were perfect! Thank you, UCB / LA.

I’m currently in an Improv 101 class and it is very fun but more importantly it is challenging. I appreciate how the coach gives plenty of notes and encourages us to stay grounded. This has been a great place to elevate my improv skills. I highly recommend UCB for anyone who is interested in becoming a great Improviser.

Upright Citizens Brigade is pure comedy gold. Every time I go, I end up laughing until my face hurts. The talent here is incredible—quick, clever, and totally fearless. Whether it’s improv or sketch, the energy is electric and the crowd is always into it. It’s one of the best nights out you can have in LA. If you haven’t been, go. And if you have? Go again. UCB never misses.

I’ve been a regular guest at this theater for over a year and have always enjoyed the shows here. However, my experience with one staff member today was disappointing and uncomfortable. When I arrived, coming straight from a fashion show, she stared at my outfit, specifically my long dress, with such a judgmental and intense look that it felt like she was giving me a hard time. It was far too much, especially since we were standing so close to each other. This behavior made me feel uneasy and unwelcome. While I waited patiently in the hall until the break, which I showed understanding for, she later seated me in the front row. As someone with sensory issues, this is not a comfortable spot for me. I would have accepted it if it were the only option, but the way she handled the situation and her overall lack of manners were unsettling. I love this theater and its performances, but I expect the staff to treat guests with basic respect and professionalism. This experience was too much, and I hope it is addressed moving forward.

Google
Hilarious improv show. Honestly the best one I have seen in a long time. These people were super witty and on top of it.

Went to the improv show and had such a laugh. As a dutchie i wasnt sure if i would be able to understand all (inside) jokes. However, the comedians were incredibly funny. Special thanks to Amanda for helping us.

Google
Small and intimate venue for incredibly funny improv! Their 1.5 hour flagship show, Elefante, absolutely flew by. We will be returning! Definitely buy your tickets as far in advance as possible as they sell out regularly. Then be there on time otherwise your tix will be released or you'll have trouble finding seats together. Parking isn't too bad if you're willing to find street spots a couple blocks away (hint: head to the streets northeast of the theater).

Yelp
Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) is one of the best places in LA to see top-tier improv and sketch comedy. If you're a fan of Saturday Night Live, The Office, or Parks and Rec, chances are you'll recognize a few faces here--or at least see the next big star before they break out. Their flagship improv show, ASSSSCAT, is legendary, regularly featuring comedians and actors from Dropout, SNL, HBO, and network TV, all making up scenes on the spot. Beyond that, UCB offers musical improv, late-night talk show parodies, game shows, and wild variety acts--always something fresh and unpredictable. Tickets are affordable, the vibe is intimate, and if you love comedy, this is where you need to be.

Yelp
Watched Asscat. Wanted to love it. Some actors were still good, but a few DEI hires were clearly incompetent, and the jokes were ruined by woke content and bs hires. Why hiring some actor who has clearly an amateur wasting audience's time just because this guy has some TV credit? Yea, seems like they need him to give credence to their boring show. Who wants to hear frequent explicit gay sex references, trans bs, and political activist lines like kowtowing to BLM and rioters in a comedy show? Only the ideologically brainwashed. Ten years ago, it wasn't like this. Each member back then was genuinely talented and funny. Now it's a complete mess--forced virtue signaling and catering to a woke audience. Series of cringe worthy jokes. Here the comedy is dying and on life support. What a disaster. Comedy requires courage and I saw cowardice, fear and group think among the cast to woke mobs. What a shame. This Hollywood echo chamber has ruined the comedy. I am done with this place. Putting rainbow to their logo? Give me a break.

Yelp
UCB is the perfect place to see a one-of-a-kind, HILARIOUS, affordable show in LA. And it's so easy to make a full night out of it with so many great restaurants and bars in the area. My favorite group has always been Baby Wants Candy - the musical improv group. Currently they are at this location every 2nd Friday of the month. Tix are purchased on Eventbrite- easy peasy. The show was amazing per usual! I can't wrap my head around how they come up with so many funny, catchy songs on the spot. Just pure genius. The auditorium is small so there really are no terrible seats but if you care about being in the middle or close to the front, seating is first come, first serve. Just make sure to get to the venue a bit early to get in line. And work in some time to find parking - it can be really rough especially on a Friday/Saturday night. We were lucky and found a spot right away but that's usually not the case. It's been so long since I've seen a show at UCB and I was so happy to be back!

Kris A.

Yelp
Every time I watch a show here, it's a definite good time!! I laugh so much during Harold Night every Monday evening!! Love this theater, so much talent! Tickets are decently priced starting from $10-$20. Seating is first comes for serve. Try to get there at least 15mins before showtime. Lots of restaurants around for pre-show or post show. It's challenging for free parking in the neighborhood. There's valet available between $7-$10. If you're in the mood for improv or just to have a good laugh, definitely visit UCB for a fun time!

Leena M.

Yelp
Had tickets to an 830 show on a Sunday & was really looking forward to it after seeing all the amazing reviews. However, due to an emergency I had to show up a little late but, was not allowed in even though I was told the show started 10 minutes earlier from my arrival. Staff was uncooperative and condescending. I was very disappointed because I was looking forward to it. no solution was provided for my situation- I was even denied the live stream.

Kristen H.

Yelp
Just moved to this neighborhood and I didn't know UCB was over here. Home of the greats including Amy Poehler and a bunch of SNL types. I came for apparently the final showing of Degrassi: the Unauthorized Musical. Awesome cast, everyone was perfect for their role. Funny and great at singing, and dancing. Super well orchestrated and written. I don't think it's a UCB exclusive show but they put on good caliber stuff here, and it's not a cuss word a minute like I find at other local comedy houses which gets disappointing. I feel like you're not good at comedy if you have to fill in a bunch of bad words to sound provocative. Improv is good and while this wasn't improv, I'd encourage coming here to check out a show as their cast members often end up quite successful so they know how to entertain you.

Jasmine W.

Yelp
Popped by on a Saturday night to catch an improv show. Arrived a little before start time so were only able to grab a spot on the side stage (show started 10 min after). Really like the warm chill vibe, great intimate theater, diverse crowd, single stall bathrooms (mens bathroom only had a urinal), no food or drinks but neighboring restaurants available with street parking. Such a fun way to spend the evening, makes me feel grateful to be in LA.

Marc M.

Yelp
Hidden Gem in Hollywood! Most shows are very affordable and there are big laughs, creative/clever people doing sketch comedy and improv!

Danielle M.

Yelp
Always fun. I moved back after 10 years and it's still a great time. Consistently as impressed at the talent onstage as I am freaked out by the Scientology stronghold across the street. Thanks to the check in people for being in such a good mood despite how cold it was. Perfect date night when paired with one of the restaurants next door - sushi or the bar are both stellar. Can't wait to go back.

Stephanie U.

Yelp
I hadn't been to UCB since before the pandemic, and it was so nice to return for a good cause (the WGA/SAG-AFTRA Strike Benefit Show). I used to see shows at the former location on Sunset (RIP), and so when I found out about this benefit show I purchased tickets right away. UCB's vicinity to various bars, shops, and restaurants also means I can get ice cream while I stand in line. It was a hot, sticky Friday. The venue itself is intimate, which is great for improv. We got seats to the right of the stage and had great visibility (except, of course, when the comedians' backs were to us during a scene - which obviously can't be helped, and is part of the overall experience). My boyfriend and I had a great time. They took funny stories and spun them into improv gold. We'll be back soon!

Jay ..

Yelp
Fun place with lots of great shows! Plenty of restaurants nearby to make an evening of it!

Emily H.

Yelp
Upright Citizens Brigade offers low cost laughter! We got there at 6:20pm for a 7:00pm show, but the staff told us we were too early. We walked around for 20 minutes and when we came back, a line had started to form. It's a small house, and there isn't a bad seat. The performers don't pick on you, but they do rely on people to volunteer to share stories. There are plenty of restaurants around to grab dinner before or after. We found street parking on one of the side streets without issue.

Kathy L.

Yelp
Yes I recommend UCB. I went to their ASSScat show. It was hilarious. But the advertised show on event bright and the website was 8:30-10:30pm. But we only received 1hr show - due to the us waiting in line and the show ending at 10pm. I recommend the show - but probably all shows - no matter the advertised time will be only an hour. I'd consider that false advertising.

Roger G.

Yelp
I've heard that, by those in the relevant industry, UCB is considered the gold star standard for their kind of comedy and improv. As an outsider to that industry, I have no trouble believing it. I've been to multiple Harold Nights, some of the Yeti/Winslow shows, and two BIGGER! shows, and they've all been fantastic. It's a lot for me to make it out to Hollywood from the Westside, but-- especially given the cheap tickets-- it's always been worth it, even if I'm yet to find decent vegetarian food in the area.

Ian C.

Yelp
Fun spot to see improv. It's a small venue with first come first serve seating. Their showtimes usually start about 10 minutes after advertised show time. There's no parking lot and street parking is limited.

Jayne D.

Yelp
Love supporting local actors. Never disappoints! Even noob shows always have some funny parts.

Sandie W.

Yelp
Excellent talent, I know I have worked with many of the awesome funny people here, I am second city,

Jennie T.

Yelp
First time going to a comedy show here and it is honestly such a great, cheap date night activity. I actually enjoyed the show and would come back. Seating is first come first serve so get there early. Masks were required for entry when we went. Parking is hit or miss but we parked at the Gelson's parking lot down the block. AND - there's a VanLeeuwen's ice cream next door to further extend date night! You're welcome!

Dora H.

Yelp
I have been attending shows here at the upright citizens brigade every so often. I don't remember how I stumbled upon this little jewel, but I know that every time I go, it is filled with hilarity and fun! They have shows everyday so it's great for those looking for something to do on any given night. Shows are notorious for selling out on popular days, so you do need to jump on those tickets at least a few hours before the show! The theater is small and intimate, no matter where you sit, you will have a decent view of the stage. The doors open a few minutes before the show, but a line does start to form outside of the building. All the groups who perform are improv comics! I've only seen a few of their groups perform, but my favorite group is Bangarang! They're such a fun group of individuals, and I always leave the room with my cheeks in pain! Most recently I watched Outside Dog who consists of a hilarious trio of guys who read a review and base their sketch on what was just read! I will be back for more shows in the future, and maybe try to catch a few of their other shows to see what all the other groups are all about!

Ericka S.

Yelp
Fun theatre to see up and coming comedic talent. Some of my favorite comedians perform here and tickets are pretty affordable. The theatre is intimate and most seats are comfortable. I recommend getting to the show a little early for the best seats. The staff are super kind and helpful if you have concerns.

Mahya J.

Yelp
I came here to see the 501 crew perform some improv and what not. It was fairly good, I must say. It's a bit small, but it's nothing to be concerned about. The selection of shows that are available here are unique from what I've seen. There are a few interesting stores near this place as well.

Steve M.

Yelp
I came here for a performance during a rain storm and we were told to put our umbrellas aside and get them after the performance. After the performance, I came out to get my umbrella and it had been stolen. When I asked the staff about it, they barely paid any attention to me and half-apologized that had happened. I love this theater and the shows that happen, but the staff was rude and not helpful or understanding. If management is going to make you leave stuff outside the theater, don't trust that it will be there when you get back.

David A.

Yelp
This is such an awesome place. Affordable for everyone and I literally laughed so hard. The sketch group Honey was amazing! Don't be a stranger opened the show and also had me dying in the seat. Don't hesitate for a second to go to this place. Definitely buy tickets early and show up a little bit early because they're selling out the shows even on the weekdays no question. There was a substantial line when we got there. I'm seriously considering taking a class.

ChienYu L.

Yelp
They sell tickets to people and then don't let them into the show because they sell the same tickets to others. Alot of people have been scammed! Many other reviews say this has happened to them as well. They basiclly scammed us, it's really bullshit !

A G.

Yelp
I work at a restaurant near the Theatre. Not going to say where. Awhile back a group came in and caused a scene. I don't know if everyone eas affiliated with the Theatre but the worst offender was. He is a producer and a coworker recognized him from a YouTube video. He was either drunk or high or something and took offense at some other guest. He talked about how important he was and started using racial slurs towards them. He was asked to leave. I don't think I am supposed to name people in reviews but he's also a producer on a George Lucas Talk Show. It's on YouTube. All I can say that if this is the behavior this Theatre endorses, you should have no part of it. He was wretched.

Maelynn T.

Yelp
Upright citizens If you're looking for a really good, cheap improv/comedy show and you're in the LA/Hollywood, look no further! I went to their 7pm Saturday night show: Sentimental Lady. I had no idea what to expect and I had a great time! I definitely can not wait to come back here! I arrived at 615pm, realized it was way too early so I walked around and got back in line at 630pm. BE SURE TO GET THERE AT LEAST 30 MINS EARLY! The line gets pretty long and seating is first come first serve. Plus, other people save seats so you might not be able to sit with everyone you come with. They don't serve drinks or food, but they are pretty chill with bringing in outside beverages.

Thuy Dan T.

Yelp
Cool little hole-in-the-wall place! Came when they did improv on an audience member's phone search history. Was so funny and comedians meshed really well together! I was impressed. Will definitely make another visit!

Amy -.

Yelp
TL;DR - If you're in LA, you need to go. As soon as the pandemic is over, I can't wait to visit UCB again! For a few dollars - maybe a lunch or a cheap dinner, you can go and see hilarious shows at this great, small theater. I learned that this is a place where most comedians have been discovered! Though I know that since the shows are quite low-cost, some actors aren't paid... Just check out the shows premise and pick your favorite and go! Plus there are loads of yummy foods close by.

Sarah H.

Yelp
Last time I went to a show, I waited half hour to get in. There was absolutely no regard for people's time- no recognition whatsoever that the show started 30 mins late. I showed up a little late to the show tonight to avoid waiting in line and was told I can't get in, despite having a ticket. They apparently oversell tickets and sold my ticket to someone else. So, you have to wait in line for however long they make you wait or they sell your ticket to make more money. They can be late, but I can't be late or I lose my ticket. And, yet again, UCB wasted my time with driving down there and back.

Sam O.

Yelp
This is a great place for low-cost entertainment and unique experiences. I honestly didn't think I would laugh, improve has never really been my thing. I was very surprised at how enjoyable the whole show was. We even had a few recognizable comedians in one group that were swinging home runs. Very enjoyable. The room is a little small and could use some more airflow but overall a great time,

Peijean T.

Yelp
We came here recently to watch a Doug Benson "Doug Love Movies" podcast taping and it was pretty sweet. Doug led the show and had four celebrity guest stars who waxed on about films and played fun games testing their somewhat esoteric knowledge of cinema. The (very inexpensive) advance tickets sell out and there are long lines to get in for what's a 60+ minute show but it's definitely worth it. LA has a huge standup scene, but here you can enjoy comedy in a different way whether it's improv or a comedic podcast taping. If you do go to a Doug Benson taping, you'll notice that the audience comes prepared with name tags, where they take a movie poster and then creatively weave their own names into the film title art. Doing so may get you selected to compete for a goody bag of prizes. No alcohol is sold or allowed in the small theatre, but you can buy $1 water bottles or sodas. I was surprised that I saw like no one taking photos during the show. It was nice as people really focus on the entertainment.

John M.

Yelp
Had a chance to see my first ever comedy show at UCB and gotta say it was a heckuva funny night. We saw Bill Kottkamp (Netflix, Good Cop), Chelsea Perez, Morgan Murphy, and Solomon Georgio in this cozy little theater setting and really enjoyed the diversity of these performers' materials and talents. But for my money, the show's host, Andrew Michaan, was the top talent on stage this evening--hilarious! And for such a hilarious show, I really can't believe it was only $7 per ticket--maybe the best deal in L.A.?!?

Mandy C.

Yelp
I am so excited that UCB is back! Opening night was a blast and you can see the new owners are putting a lot of work into improving the theater--from upgrades around the space to improved representation in their performers. I am hopeful they will continue to make improvements to the theater and culture surrounding it. The prices have gone up, but this feels long overdue and the rates are reasonable for seeing a good comedy show. As someone with health issues, I am overwhelmingly thankful for their mask policy and hope it stays! I took off one star for the behavior of one of the new ADs--as I entered I saw a woman in overalls being difficult about wearing a mask, but the person taking tickets was polite and informed her she needed to wear one because that is policy. She defiantly grabbed one from the basket and flung masks everywhere then ran off without putting it on and let everyone else pick up her mess. I dismissed it as a rude person until the show started and she introduced herself on stage as one of the new ADs. I know the new owners have put a lot of work into hiring new people, so this was beyond disappointing--from her disregard for policies that she should be enforcing to the disrespectful way she treated staff. I realize performers don't wear masks, but the least people can do is be polite to workers and follow policies to help model it to the audience coming in (we don't know who is "exempted" from policies and interactions like this give the impression it's acceptable to treat staff this way). Aside from this, the night was a great success and I look forward to seeing more shows!

Dan K.

Yelp
I'm going to need some suggestions from the crowd to write this... The UCB theater isn't itself anything special. What's special is the community of improvisors who make it up. Yes, it looks like everyone is trying to be found or be seen or catch their break but honestly, looks can be deceiving. We saw a humble Harold show by two troupes and both were fantastic. For both the times when they nailed it and for times when they missed. It really did feel like the players were playing for the love of the game and not to escape their oppressive accounting jobs at PwC. If I lived in LA, I'd want to pickup improv again and hang out with this crew. Bonus, the theater is conveniently located next to Van Leeuwen ice cream. Get your ice cream and get in line early for the show. You won't be disappointed. Also... fellas, the improv theater might be a top ten date spot. You'll definitely have something to talk about afterwards.

Mel D.

Yelp
I had a great time, randomly decided to check out a show on a Friday night (this was about a month ago) - it was only $10, improv, seating is on a first come basis. Honestly, now that everything is shut down and we have to stay home, I really appreciate places like UCB. This is a fun evening outing that doesn't break the bank. There are several shows nightly and I highly recommend for everyone to check it out once things normalize.

Wayne K.

Yelp
I had a great time watching my first Upright Citizens Brigade show, Bangarang! presents: The Weekend. For the same price of a movie, I thought the show was well worth the price of admission. I can't say that I was falling off my chair laughing, but it was entertaining and the cast did an excellent job performing and also allowing everyone to share in the experience. As others have noted, parking is hard, so expect to drive around a bit if you're looking for street parking. Also, it seems they don't mind if you bring in drinks, such as coffee or even possibly ice cream (not sure about the food, but definitely saw people bringing in coffee), which is a nice bonus since you can snack while watching everyone perform. Also, there's really no bad seating in the whole theater, which is also a nice plus. Overall, this is a great experience to see if you're interested in improv comedy.

Justin Y.

Yelp
UCB. My expectations were set through the roof but alas you didn't come through. Don't get me wrong. I had my fair share of laughs. I really wanted to give this place 2.5 stars as opposed to 3 but with the cheap price I kept it at 3 stars. Came here on a Wednesday night for "Funny Facebook Commentary" where the troupe picks random audience members from the audience and creates skits around their Facebook profile. Perhaps, I came on a bad evening cause the two profiles we had weren't that entertaining. I wasn't laughing as much as I thought I was going to. There was quite bit of talent on stage and I respect these individuals for their craft and skill however I wasn't too impressed that night. Don't get me wrong, I will try anything twice. I will most definitely be back at this show cause at $5 Dollars a show you can't go wrong with that. But I just wasn't really feeling the show. Though, I hear great things about this troupe and the amazing variety of shows. Guess I just picked a night where it wasn't that funny. Sincerely the honest Asshole who didn't give you guys a 5 star Review, J Yeezy

Glen N.

Yelp
Gutbusting comedy by established or soon-to-be stars in an intimate theater for dirt cheap. The flagship improv group Asscat, in particular, is the grittier alternative to the equally brilliant Groundlings (at 1/3 the cost), with the added bonus of surprisingly self-revelatory monologues from cool guests (I've seen Janeane Garafolo, Colin Hanks, Jerry O Connell, Sarah Silverman, Thomas Lennon, and Steve-o), and the possibility of guest improv stars (I've seen Amy Poehler, Horatio Sanz, Rachel Dratch, Tim Meadows, Andy Richter, Rob Riggle, etc.) The show sells out 1-3 weeks in advance so get tickets early. (The Sunday show is free but the line is super long) UCB is also the home to Billy the Mime, a performance act that cannot be missed, one that is as insanely intelligent as it is outrageously irreverent. Bookmarking the schedule is a good idea, but adding Billy the Mime on The Facebook is probably a better idea. I actually proposed to my wife on stage during Asscat. (see photo). Thanks to founding members Matt Besser, Matt Walsh, and Ian Roberts for a lifetime of my wife giving me shit for it.

Liezl E.

Yelp
If you're poor, NOT a soulless bastard and enjoy laughing, you need to visit this place. All shows are often for less than $5 - $8, if not FREE. If you've never been, I highly suggest Comedy Death Ray (stand-up), Facebook (improv based on your Facebook profile), Birthday Boys (sketch) or The Midnight Show every first Saturday of the month. Now to the brass tacks. 1) PARKING.. it's a pain in he arse. They have valet but i hate people touching my car (plus i saw the valet back into another car), so I opt for street parking, and parking is, 9 times out of 10, hard to come by. Try the street between the Thai Place and Gelson's market. 2) **TICKETS: Reserve your tickets ahead of time on their website, as they go fast. Tickets are cash only. 3) DRINKS: BYO...beverages. 4) SEATING: first come first serve, and Im told they only have about 100 seats in there. Get there at least a half hour before the show, perhaps earlier if it's a popular (or free) show like Asssscat or Comedy Death Ray. If you don't, expect to sit on the stage and become a target. ***EDIT 12/17/07*** TICKETS: because some shows sell out within seconds and people have been dicking out of their reservations, they have now introduced the PayPal system of buying tickets online. If you want to see photos of the show to get a feel for what to expect, see my photo blog here:: http://flickr.com/photos/liezlwashere/sets/72157603301859872/

Yelp
Sure, this theatre may seem a little rundown, but it's the performances that take place inside that make it great. As a soon-to-be "citizen" of the Upright Citizens Brigade, or 'UCB' as it is more commonly called, I came to see what was in store for me once I graduated from Improv 101, by coming to see one of my buddy's performances that all students must go through if they wish to advance to the next level in their Long Form Improvisational training. For a $5 entrance fee, and a hell of a time finding parking, you can be treated to 40 minutes of laughs by the graduating class, as they work together using suggestions from the audience to put their newly-learned skills to the test by thinking on their feet and working with their teammates to find the unusual in everyday situations. The theatre isn't just used for friends and family coming to support their graduating buddies, though. There is a new show going on almost every night, with very reasonable entrance fees starting at $5, and always something interesting in the works. Not to be confused with the UCB school itself, this little theatre is the perfect place to hang out with friends and get some laughs out of your otherwise uneventful day.

Yelp
Caught the "Kyle Mooney Live" show here last night and had some good laughs. I've been to the Groundlings theatre and the Improv Olympic several times but never saw a show @ UCB Franklin theatre. It's a cool little spot. Great neighborhood too. Get there early because traffic is heavy in this area and parking spots limited. The better position you have in the pre show line, then you'll have a better choice for a seat, but there are no bad seats. As for the show, Kyle killed it. He did all his classic original YouTube characters. Bruce Chandling, inside SoCal Todd from Pacific Beach, Sporty guy and angst teen Chris Fitzpatrick. I'm sure the new movie 'Brigsby Bear' in theaters next month will be great. Looking forward to it. His buddy and director Dave sat next to me and I said Hello. A lot of funny folks have gotten their start here and current SNL players in New York began right here. I'll be checking out the newer & bigger UCB sunset in the very near future as well. I highly recommend this place to anyone needing some comedy, the one hour shows are perfect too. In and out, no dragging on and on like some stand up comedy shows. Definitely the best 8 bucks I've spent in a long long time, an incredible deal really. Totally worth it. They should charge more to be honest.

Yelp
There are two stages in the building and I have only been to the one on the top floor. It is a bare bones, slightly dumpy 3/4 round with a tiny backstage, but it puts on good little shows. And I mean little. Mostly improv, with no sets or props other than a few chairs and your imaginations. That said it is a cutting edge place that is so intimate one cannot help but feel that they are a little bit on the stage too. Make sure to line up early on the street. The line starts about 30 mins before the performances. Admission cost varies, from $5 and up.

Yelp
This was my first visit to any UCB and I think I choose a great one. We went to the 11pm show on Thursday, and the groups during this performance were hilarious. You could tell they had been working together for years - their chemistry and the way they were able to read each other worked really well. Parking is a little crazy is this area but we just did valet at a nearby restaurant ($10) and picked the car up after dinner and the show. They sale sodas and merch (no alcohol). The theatre is small so get in line early if you want a higher seat and don't want to sit on the sides.

Yelp
This was a different experience from my time spent at WHIPLASH in Manhattan, NY. However, I thought I would give it a go while visiting Los Angeles. My brother, his girlfriend, and I made it to the 11:00pm show called "Search History." For the first 15 minutes, an audience member was interviewed on stage while an improv troupe member analyzed his search history. The following 45 were full of hilarious improv utilizing the interview. While the show could have been longer, I really appreciated how short and sweet it was. I highly recommend getting tickets for both the 9pm show and the 11pm! Man, I wish I lived closer to this culture!!!

Yelp
This is the best improv in town! everything stared here - Cheri Oteri, Kathy Griffin - from the beginning to the end this is where comedy starts. Shows are cheap if you get here after 10 (ASSSCAT starts at 8, but you can get $5 tickets for the 11pm weekday shows) and there is a secret BYOB policy. Come to UCB Franklin for the BEST improv in LA - it's a scene, and i mean that in the best sense of the term!

Yelp
Laugh your pants off!! The rap off was the best! Expect to line up for better seating. Since its such an intimate setting, I didn't mind getting back or side seating. Everyone will get a seating. Order online. Expect alot of sold outs. Or best time to accidentally walk in for seats is during the holidays. $5 seats. Can't get any better than this. Quality intimate fun for cheap! Great for those budget dates (cheap sushi next door, stay away from the $6 delicious ice cream shop that'll blow your whole budget), entertainment and catch up with friend(s) at Birds after, small birthdays or just a way to blow off steam and laugh at life. Located in Franklin Village, so its difficult parking. They have valet by Gourmet Oaks. Located by a row of restaurants with bars, coffee shops, and book stands.

Yelp
HIGHLY RECOMMEND to anyone looking for cheap but pure gold entertainment. Its $5-7 for over an hour long improv or stand up show. TIP: come at least 15-30 mins early to get good seats. Almost every show gets sold out. Watch ASSSCAT, Facebook, Bangarang, Sentimental Lady, Good Looks, & Harold Fridays. Some notable alumni are Amy Poehler, Aziz Ansari, Donald Glover and several cast members of The Office. These names tell you just how top notch the comedy is here. Right next door are a bar, restaurant, ice cream shop, and coffee shop so there are things to do before/after the show. You can even BYOB! Valet is $7 just around the corner.

Yelp
This is a great place to check out improv. There are performances all the time and they are reasonably priced. Don't need advance tickets. Very funny stuff, mostly by amateurs. Everything is right on the spot, nothing is scripted. Very different from stand-up comedy. Small stage, comfortable atmosphere. Clean restrooms. Go check it out.

Yelp
The show was really good, but the organization could be a little better. Come 15-30 minutes early because people save seats and if you have a large group you won't be able to sit together. Also, they sell more tickets than seats available so even if you are by yourself, if you don't get there early you might not have a seat at all.
