Uptown China Restaurant

This is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants. I’ve been coming here for several years whenever I’m craving Chinese food, and I like it better than some places in the ID. My go-to dish is the Mongolian chicken, the beef here is especially good compared to other spots. It’s not chewy at all, just really tender and delicious. I’ve also enjoyed their other dishes, like the fried rice and fried eggplant. The staff is friendly, which makes the experience even better. There’s also a parking lot in the back that fits about 10 cars, which is super convenient. Highly recommend!

I love Uptown China — this restaurant never disappoints. The food is consistently delicious, fresh, and always hits the spot. It’s one of those places you can rely on for a satisfying meal every time. The staff are incredibly friendly and even remember us, which is always a nice touch and makes the experience feel more personal. The Mongolian beef has great flavor and is always a favorite, and the sweet and sour dishes are just as delicious. The lunch special is a really good deal at $17, especially for the quality and portion sizes. Another bonus is the free parking in the back, which makes stopping by even easier. Overall, a fantastic spot with great food, warm service, and solid value. Highly recommend!

Ordered delivery off their website and the order was fulfilled by Toast. We ordered chicken fried rice, spring rolls and sweet & sour pork with steamed rice. The food was delivered to us in a reasonable amount of time and all of it was hot and fresh. Portion size was pretty large and we could not eat all of our entrees or rice. The chicken fried rice was good but not great. Nothing exciting but solid. The sweet & sour pork was crispy on the outside, maybe a little too crispy. Good pieces of pork inside and the sweet sauce was tasty. The spring rolls were small but crunchy and tasty. The steamed rice was the typical sticky rice fare. One thing to note was that our order not not come with any utensils or napkins. We were staying in a hotel so were able to get some fro the front desk but it was a bit of a pain to go back down after getting our food dropped off to look for cutlery. Not bad food overall, nothing special but nothing bad either. The price did seem high for what we got. For our order to feed two plus the delivery fee and tip we spent over $60 dollars. Granted we were in the downtown location but for $60, I would have thought the quality of food would have been a bit better.

Loved it!! We hardly ever miss a Chinese restaurant when we travel and this time we struck gold. It was a short walk from our hotel and not too far from the Needle if you want great Chinese food. We got there early and wondered if we made a bad decision because we were the only people in the dining area. Before we finished our meal the place was hopping with to-go orders and almost half of the dining room full.

I'm east asian, so I have a high standard for american chinese. I loved the mongolian beef and the sesame chicken. It was crispy and not that greasy and sweet like the ones in NY. We highly recommend it.

I ordered the cashew curry chicken and it was so amazing!! The service was also incredible, I came with a large group and we all got our orders out really fast! I would highly recommend!

My mom and I were killing time for a flight and stopped in for lunch because they had vegan options available. My food was delicious and I wish I had eaten slower to savor it for longer. I had the vegan Mongolian mock duck, as well as an order of vegan potstickers. I highly recommend this spot whether you're a group of vegans or a mix of vegans and non-vegans. There is something for everyone.

Visiting seattle and 100 stars for this place. Service was excellent food was sooo good. Very generous portions. 100% recommend. Will come back when we visit again!

We ordered a spread of dishes--pork fried rice, Mongolian beef, rangoons, and hot and sour soup--and every single item exceeded our expectations. The pork fried rice was savory and well-seasoned, with tender pieces of pork and perfectly cooked rice. The Mongolian beef was rich, flavorful, and had just the right balance of sweetness and heat. The rangoons were crispy, golden, and generously filled, and the hot and sour soup had that perfect tangy kick without being overpowering. Nothing felt bland or under-seasoned; you could tell the kitchen puts care into the flavors. The service was truly one of the highlights. Our waitresses were incredibly warm and welcoming--they checked on us often without hovering and had a great sense of humor that genuinely made us laugh. It felt like they really enjoyed being there, which added so much to the experience. Yu-Mei's Uptown China has two sections: a bar area and a dining room. We chose to sit in the dining room, and it was spotless, comfortable, and had a laid-back, relaxed atmosphere--ideal for winding down after a busy evening. The vibes were calm but still lively enough to feel enjoyable. We stopped by after spending time at the Christmas Market near the Seattle Center, and this meal was the perfect way to wrap up the night. Between the delicious food, great service, and cozy environment, Yu-Mei's Uptown China definitely impressed us. Highly recommend if you're in the area and craving flavorful, well-made Chinese food!

Great for groups big or small, plentiful vegan options!! Huge portions, all delicious. The service was kind and swift, we were heathens and came in as a group of 10 without a reservation, they sat us without question, even moving tables when 2 more arrived! They split the bill easy at the end too. Half of us are vegan or vegetarian and the my have an entire vegan menu which made that easy. 3 of us shared the crispy eggplant and it was plenty. The spicy mushrooms had a delicious meaty texture too! I didn't try others dishes, but there were no complaints :) Friends remarked in the strength of the uptown margs, so could see this as a good pregame spot for a big night too.

Really good orange chicken, walnut prawn and pork fried rice. They have a cool little bar too.

I'm so glad I finally found a good Chinese restaurant. Come try it for yourself, BEST CHINESE FOOD in Seattle, Hands down! You will love it. The service is 100% and they have great ambiance in the bar

Id give this à 3+. Good solid Chinese fare. Pleasant service, generous portions. The restaurant is well laid out and clean. Although we were there during a Krakens game and the place was full, we were seated and served quickly. We split an order of Singapore noodles, spice level 3. I did not find it overly spicy and the portion was easily split between the two of us. We were still a bit hungry so ordered some spring rolls. The filling was good, but the outside was a tad greasy. I'll come back to try some of the dishes I saw on the adjacent tables, especially that eggplant!

This is ok for plain Chinese food. I ordered Sesame Shrimp with Broccoli, and it was very bland, not much spice or taste. The broccoli that came with it was perfectly plain. Husband had Sweet and Sour Shrimp and thought it was good. They've apparently changed their spring rolls, so they're crunchier inside but not as tasty. As usual we had to go looking to pay the bill.

I LOVE this place. Not only is the food absolutely delicious, the owner is so down to earth and so FUN to talk to. I'm so glad we live 2 blocks away - this is our go to spot.

Overall good Chinese place to enjoy below Queen Anne area. Good foods, good services, clean place and no waiting on weekend, food portions are generous, and prices are okey. Took the kids here and they ordered the foods a they ate them all without complaining.

5* for the food - we loved everything we ate 2.5* for the service - they were incredibly incredibly slow and we had to wave them down repeatedly for the check, the one server spilled the soup all over when she delivered it but didn't notice as she was rushing away because she was in such a hurry The ambiance was fine. Very normal. Overall this spot remains our favorite for the food because of the vegetarian menu and food quality. But that said we will probably stick to take out.

This is the first Chinese restaurant that I can compare to NY! Hands down the best food I've had in the seattle area. This has to be on your Must try list

1.5 hour wait for a to-go order. No water, no drink, no seat. The drunk owner said "they are cooking it now, 30 minutes ago in". Way too expensive, way too slow and pretty weak food.

Wow! The food here was SO good! Everything was clearly fresh, right down to the rangoon and vegetable spring rolls (which are obviously frozen and reheated at many restaurants). During our week's stay, we ate here twice! It was clearly popular with the locals, as the staff recognized and chatted with many of them as they came in. That gave the place a comfortable feel. Highly recommended!

I stumbled upon this restaurant because I was in the mood for some Chinese food and it was by my hotel. I will start by saying this place did NOT disappoint. I only gave it 4 stars because the bar seating area was small. Fred, the bartender, was GREAT! When I asked him for a beer suggestion, he poured Bodhizafa. It was my first time having Bodhizafa and if you like IPAs, I would suggest trying it as well! I ordered the Kung Pao chicken and rice for my entree, and for the appetizer I had the Uptown Rangoon. The food was DELICIOUS! The Kung Pao chicken wasn't super spicy, so if you're concerned about that it part, I would still recommend trying it. Fred mentioned that this restaurant was the best in the city. I am so glad I ended up here. Would I go back? YES!

Convenient to Climate Change Arena the restaurant was packed prior to an event. Servers really hustled and did their best to keep everyone happy, amazingly without making us feel rushed. The food was a mixed bag. For appetizers the hot & sour soup was nicely seasoned and enjoyed. The pot stickers on the other hand lacked any discernible seasoning, which carried through to the mains. On the positive side, portions were generous. The Kung Pao was unbelievably mild, lacking any heat. Sesame tofu and crispy eggplant, again lacking seasoning. None of the dishes had much in the way of vegetables, in the future we would order a strictly vegetable dish to complement the protein. We would return when eating prior to an event, this time making a reservation, seeing if kung pao could be made spicier, and ordering a vegetable dish!

Great customer service (the hostess hooked us up with a table for nine right before the game), great food (we did family style and the food was excellent), and good drinks! This place is an institution near the arena and is totally worth diverting from the usual places like Tom's and Buckley's, especially if you're hungry and don't want to pay for the crazy food prices inside Climate Pledge.

I really hate to leave a bad review but this place has gone seriously downhill in the last few months. I am shocked that none of the other recent reviews mention how bad the food has been lately. I used to come here several times a month but the last 3 times I have been here have been disappointing at best. The food tastes like they got a new chef who is not following the old recipes. Today I had the egg flower soup and mongolian beef. The egg flower soup is flavorless and the mongolian beef is now salty instead of sweet. My mom had the wonton soup and Pat's special and both were bland and tasteless. The service has also gone downhill due to lack of staff and there is always a long line of people waiting to be sat, pay, and pick up their takeout orders. I have been coming here since I was a child, but unfortunately I will not be coming back.

Here we are again!! This is our second time here, and we absolutely loved it!! The lunch menu is amazing! You get a soup, appetiser, rice, and main dish all for $15! You can't beat that! The food is tasty too. The only thing I would say is be sure and ask how hot things are, so you're not stuck like me giving your Cung Po Chicken to your hubby! Both meals were very tasty! In my opinion the Mongolian chicken had more flavour than the Cung Po Chicken. The egg flower soup was rich and full flavoured. Hubby said his Hot and Sour soup was ok, but not his favourite as it was mostly hot and not much sour. It was definitely too spicy hot for me to try. However, in all everything was wonderful. They also have vegetarian Rangoon which makes it my favourite Rangoon in the city! I ordered a full order cause they are so good! I ate 5 of the 6! ‍ The service was very good, especially considering it was during a lunch rush we were there. More than anything, Jenny's sweet smile was the favourite part of our time. The restaurant itself self is light, and open and very clean! The bathrooms are wonderful! This time we were able to park on the street right out front and it was perfect! We will definitely be back!

I don't really like to leave a so-so review for this place - but felt the need to warn people about one appetizer & value. I just received a delivered order for lunch at work and my $8.50 BBQ pork appetizer had only 6 small pieces!! Are you kidding me? Yes I also got a sweet & sour sauce, hot mustard and sesame seeds, but still. I will never order that again. In every other occasion where I've dined-in, I've been happy with the amounts, food and service. Very disappointed with my delivery order. Hence the 3 stars.

Delicious!! I would drive to Seattle just for dinner. I personally ordered the sweet and sour chicken, it was 10/10. I shaded their veggie fried rice with a friend and that was the best fried rice I've ever had! Sampled the Kung Pao and Sesame Chicken from friends-- all super good! Friendly service, were SUPER quick. Cocktails were also good.

We came here for lunch. They had $15 and $16 dollar options and a very vast menu. Each meal comes with soup, an appetizer, rice and the entree. I got the sesame prawns which were very delicious and a pretty good deal for the price. My mom got the chicken and broccoli and she it was fine but not anything special. The service was nice but a little slow. The music took me back to the early 00s. A little pricey for lunch but everything seems to be that way.

After tonight's viewing of the Joan Baez doc at Siff, friends & I stumbled into the Uptown China Restaurant for dinner. We sat in the lounge where it was a bit quieter-- service was excellent, and my dish of Hunan Tofu was excellent!

Great food. Great atmosphere. Can't go wrong at Uptown China! Been going here for many years.

Tasty food here. Lo mein is awesome. Friendly service. Has a full bar. Also try the egg flower soup.

I ordered through grub hub and saw a really good looking dish called the house special chicken. From the photo it looked like a wonderful veggie and chicken rice dish. I ordered the house special chicken and crab ragoons. The service was super quick and I happily accepted my delivery. When I got back to my room and opened the boxes I realized there was no rice. I referred back to the menu photo and decided to call the restaurant. They confirmed that there was no rice included. While the crab ragoons are very good, the chicken dish is loaded with veggies and chicken and has a good flavor and is juicy but it is not want I was expecting or had planned on ordering. I'd recommend calling to confirm what it is you're actually ordering if you place a delivery order with them.

I've been eating there for years and I remembered why I stopped going. The food is good but the service in the bar area is odd. There's an older tall gentleman that's been working there for many years and his lack of social and customer service has not changed. He doesn't have welcoming energy so we won't be going back.

The Moo Shu Pork was wonderful and a very generous portion. We had take-out which was still very hot when we ate it. They also provided us with paper plates since we had no dishes. Much appreciated.

The lunch specials are such a good deal and the food had good flavor without being greasy. Ordered online for takeout and it was ready in 10 minutes. The fried rice with orange chicken stood out to me, the lunch special came with wonton soup which was perfect for cold weather. The eggroll appetizer was just ok though. Definitely decent place for lunch if in the area.

I was craving bbq pork and the spicy mustard that comes with it. When I opened the container, it smelled sour and the meat looked like it had been sitting out for a whole day. It wasn't warm and some pieces were slimy. This did not seem fresh and I'm very disappointed that I tried them again. Maybe the service is better dining in. I'll stick to CID in the future.

The food was delicious. The service was top tier. Everyone loved all of their items. The Margarita...award winning did live up to its name. The sauce for the spices dragon mushrooms was good and. Must have. The mushrooms were king oyster and flavorful. This was the first stop in this Seattle tour. It did not disappoint. The prices are fair the food is plenty and flavorful.

Came here with a large group of people where some people arrived early and very hungry and others were running quite late, and they did a great job making everyone feel relaxed and taken care of even though our situation was very weird. Our food was great, egg drop soup had a delicious note of sweet corn in the broth and was the best one I've had before. Restaurant had nice ambiance and was very clean and also had a very nice art of the uw campus on the wall by me. I'd be glad to come back here and comfortable bringing another group to the big round table we sat at.

I've ordered large quantities for both delivery and pickup! The food was still nice and warm both times. The owner Yu-Mei is very patient and helpful. Service is top notch here. I recommend the Singapore noodles and Kung Pao Chicken!

I've loved this place for years. The food is so good. Yea Mai is so nice and the atmosphere is always fun. Best Chinese cuisine in the city in my opinion. It's reliably delicious. I love this place.

Ordered many things from the plant based menu last week. The plant based fried rice came with egg in it. When I called to complain the man said to specify that I want the plant based fried rice with no egg. I explained to him that then that is not plant based. He said a manager will call me for a refund. Still have yet to get that and that was over a week ago. Horrible business.

A solid offering of Chinese cuisine with many vegetarian options. All here in Queen Anne. It was pleasantly full last Saturday night. Nice to see people out again. The hostess/owner(?) greeted regulars with attack hugs. It's been a while since I've seen that and again a big plus. It's good to see neighborhood restaurants thriving and building relationships with patrons. You are not imagining the high degree of spice in those photos. I love spicy food and have traveled all over Asia. Chef understood what I meant by spicy and I appreciated it. I'll be back.

The walnut prawns is $22.... I was definitely expecting there to be more than 9 pieces of shrimp. Beautifully presented, but incredibly disappointing. Honey Walnut Prawns

Great service. Slow on Sunday lunch. Special includes choice of soup, choice of appetizer, choice of rice/fried, choice of meat, lunch specials (extra), wine, beer, tea, soft drinks. Great ambiance. Music was nice and soothing. Servers are very friendly. Would recommend. Kid friendly. Alloys of space.

Not exaggerating when I say this is some of the BEST Asian food I've EVER experienced. It was so wonderfully flavorful, clean, and fresh - without the usual oily/greasiness. The hot & sour soup was good; the Egg Flower soup was PERFECT. The egg was perfectly delicate and silky smooth, and the broth had a subtle sweet richness to it I've never had before or since. I ordered the House Special chicken which came out like an elevated Moo Goo Gai Pain and was PHENOMENAL. My partner got the Crispy Noodles with Chicken, Beef, and Shrimp - I couldn't stop stealing bites! The sauce was perfection, and the beef especially was absolute perfection as well. Tender and smooth and DELICIOUS. I'd give this place 10 stars if I could. We couldn't wait to heat up our leftovers later. By that time, the Crispy Noodles had soaked up all the sauce and steamed a bit so were basically lo mein noodles and made for an equally enjoyable yet unique second experience of the same dish! The restaurant interior was clean and bright, and the service was great. On top of all that - for two drinks, three soups, and two entrees, our total was only $52!!!! This has to be some of the best Chinese in Seattle. I truly can't say enough about this place.

Order 4 containers of food. Mongolian Beef & Kung Pao Chicken was excellent! The place is great and smells great! On a not too busy street with street parking near by. The staff was very friendly and patient! They are very accommodating & wheelchair accessible! Take out was really quick! Had our food in under 10 mins! The bar looked packed and the dining room was empty but clean. Lots of people dropping by for food! I've visited Seattle a few times and this is the best Chinese food I've had so far here.

I always find it really weird when Yelp and google have drastically different reviews for the same restaurant and that was the case for this restaurant so I thought why not just try it! Food was fine, wish my chicken (walnut chicken) was a little crispier. My chicken also didn't come with rice so I had to order a side of rice which I always find weird. Overall, the service was good and the food was decent. The are doing dine in now and have drink options as well! What's also funny is that they have a discounted drink if you have shoes on so don't forget your shoes! (Sandals worked for me)

Last week, I try to call for take out order and I was asking some questions regarding menu to the operator ( host ) and she abruptly hang up the call. I tried to call many times after that no answer. Very disappointed. I went to the restaurant and I talk to the owner about the incident, they try to cover up.

The evening we went to Uptown China I enjoyed talking with the owner so much that I can't say anything negative because I wouldn't want to blemish that lovely experience. I lived in both Taiwan, where she is from, and in Beijing during the entirety of the 1980s and have had many memorable meals and learned a lot about Chinese cuisine from all my Chinese friends I knew while there. One very thing I recall distinctly was eating something back then that I really liked but my Chinese friends were critical of it. I couldn't understand why. It turns out that most Chinese dishes have a standard flavor or taste that they need to meet. A very Confucian concept! If the food doesn't taste exactly like what the standard demands, it isn't good, even if you like the taste. At the time I thought how silly! Over time I have become more and more like them! In short I liked everything we ordered that evening at Uptown China, Especially the salt and pepper chicken wings. However I wouldn't say that the food rose to the level of meeting any certain precise standard. Some of my Chinese acquaintances might not love the food because of this. However if you only care about having a lovely meal and aren't hung up on what I just described, then by all means go there for dinner. You will be very happy. Everything tasted great! I should add that the service could not have been better!

When I'm craving Chinese food Uptown China is my go to place. I highly recommend the flavorsome sesame chicken and the mouthwatering chicken lo mein. The service is world class and it's a treat to have the owner Yu-Mei come and chat with your table. She goes above and beyond to make all her guests feel welcome and like family. The ambience in the bar is always great, especially while Fred the bartender is working. His style of service and sense of humor combined with incredible cocktails will always make your visit memorable and filled with nonstop laughter. If you're looking for great Chinese food and drinks look no further than Uptown China.

Uptown China has delicious food. I've attached a photo of our go-to order. The spring rolls, pot stickers, sweet & sour pork, and kung pao chicken are fantastic. If you don't eat pork, the sweet & sour chicken is a good choice. When you order take out, the sweet & sour pork comes with the sauce on the side which is great so it isn't soggy by the time you eat it. I recommend giving Uptown China a try!

It's a shame so many people have left bad reviews because of delivery times. I've eaten here many many times for dinner or lunch take out. The food is large portions, excellent top quality food- gorgeous in dining presentations and outstanding flavor profiles. They put a lot into their dishes and it shows. I would give Uptown 100 stars and list it as the best Chinese restaurant in the entire city. Favorites: the honey walnut prawns are outrageous- huge platter. All dishes come on a huge plate filled with enough food to share. Shrimp wontons in spicy sauce fabulous. Steve & Tony

Arrived walk in with a group of 8 and was amazed to be seated in a perfect round table in the back. We loved the spot and the TV back here was playing The Force Awakens. Orders came quick and the prices were amazing! We were all very satisfied with the egg drop appetizer and the main course was great too. Absolutely recommended for a big party.

Food is not good. We ordered delivery, they forgot a side of rice, one of our sides of egg flower soup, and forgot to add sauce to the sweet and sour chicken. How do you get wrong 3 items out of a 7 item order?! The egg flower soup we got was disgusting- thick with corn starch an tasteless. Fried rice also gross with low quality ingredients.

Best fried rice in town. The service was slow but friendly. This is the genuine article when it comes to classic Chinese-American food.

We were seated promtly by a friendly staff with a big smile on her face :) , the vegan menu was big with so many options, we didn't dare to order a lot cause we were afraid we couldn't finish but still when the food brought out, our jaw dropped, the portions were really generous. The only dish that didn't wow us was the dragon mushroom, it was not spicy and kinda dry, almost taste like burnt, the rest was good, a bit too much vinegar but overall we had a good experience here.
