I used to think of Uptown Pizza favorably, but they have really let it slide over the last few years. Initially pizzas like the Manhattan (Canadian bacon, tomato, jalapenos), Thai Chicken (chicken, pineapple and coconut on spicy sauce), and the San Antonio (chicken, tomato, bacon) were novel and interesting pies. And they were, to the extent that Uptown delivered them on time and in one piece (meaning cut for eating but not looking like it had been involved in a rollover crash).
Over the last several years, though, the standards have fallen and now it typically takes 1.5 hours to receive the pizza, and sometimes you feel like it won't come at all. I have also experienced the situation where the drivers/employees don't seem to know where the place is, even though they've been there numerous times and it's all set out on a grid. I guess that's their default excuse for whatever problems are going on in the pizza production and distribution areas.
It's a shame, because while it's a little sleazy I kind of liked Uptown, especially their willingness to deliver late in a city that lacks an abundance of midnight-hour places. Now, though, after many late-night tries with them, I think I'm done. The pizza has developed a reputation of showing up extremely late, with few condolences, and one time we had to literally shut the door in the driver's face because it was like two-plus hours from the point of order.
What does show up is, all too often, gross and inedible. I wouldn't suggest getting anything but their signature pies because they don't seem to know how to make a pizza with specific toppings properly and deliver it quickly. The pizza is almost always a mess, and tastes worse than a frozen pizza would.
Their garlic toast is stale, the chicken wings are probably worse than Domino's, and the garlic knots are liable to have several fluid ounces of grease dropping out of them once penetrated.
Oh Uptown, I once knew ye. I'm afraid you'll never regain your luster. Now we all regret, regret, regret....
If you've never tried them, give it a go sometime and then review it. Afterward you might find yourself with a new-found love for American Pie Pizza.
