"Uptown Pizza, a battered but beloved Lake Street restaurant, has closed. It was a continual source of affordable food for the day and late-night dwellers of the area, offering magnum-sized pizzas with unique toppings. The restaurant's awning had become sun-bleached over the years, and delivery was outsourced to online services, but it still retained its grungy Uptown sheen from its early days." - Joy Summers

Google
Good luck. They messed up my order after asking 3 times for the specific special pizza. When I got home, I wasn’t surprised to see the pizza maker made an charged me for a cheese pizza. When I explained it to him he acted like he did nothing wrong, no harm no foul. These are the types of places that community can do without. If you dont like your job get another one

Google
Wouldn’t recommend! Spent $80 on 3 pizzas with high expectations but what a letdown! Crust tastes like what I think wet cardboard would taste. Light on the toppings and not very good ones. Would not spend my money here again. There is a very good pizza place in Uptown but I couldn’t recall which one it was so I ordered from here. If I find the right place, I’d recommend that the owners of Uptown pizza go eat there to get an idea of what good pizza should taste like. Feel like I was just robbed.

Google
Mediocre pizza. Even though mine was cooked as well as it could have been, if you use cheap ingredients you’ll get mediocre pizza. They are understaffed and I feel bad for the employees. I had to wait significantly longer than the advertised time to get my take out order. This is a takeout-only place with an open kitchen. You can see them diligently working the whole time, but with only two chefs and eight hangry customers waiting impatiently, they have a tough job to keep up. Normally I go to Parkway Pizza in St. Louis Park—best pizza in Minneapolis! But they were closed so I picked up here. The neighborhood is a little sketchy and this is not a sit down restaurant, FYI. If you’re just looking for late night delivery this will be good enough. It’s also better than a chain pizza place like Domino’s or Pizza Hut. But if you want to get out and sit down to a nice meal at a pizza restaurant, you’ll have to try other places.

Google
I order frequently through UberEats, and it's the second time an entire item has been missing from my order. They'll still send it to you through their own delivery people if you're local if you call them to talk about it, but only if you can actually get ahold of someone- sometimes nobody picks up. The pizza is very good for the price, but it's concerning how that seems to happen often.

Google
Very good pizza, quality ingredients. I love the Jamaican Jerk pizza with coconut. Me n my boyfriend order it regularly. Unique and bomb.

Google
So, I ate a few pieces before I posted. This is some of the best pizza around the Lake Street area. There are no tables in the restaurant, but there are plenty of shops in the area to check out while you wait for your pizza to get done. It's worth the wait, and it tastes great! It's also reasonably priced, and the service is nice. Get a little grab and go.

Google
This classic pizza spot is open late with plenty of deals to choose from extra big slices and friendly service grab a slice or a box to bring back home you might want to try the garlic knots while your there. Located right on lake street in uptown so it’s definitely convenient for anybody traveling the area looking for a decent priced meal.

Google
This place has great staff and fills a niche in the uptown pizza game that no one else does. Has great deals and sends out consistent pies. The first time I ordered from here last year the crust was pretty thick. But since then I’ve gotten pies with a thinner crust, which is absolutely my preference. Glad this spot has survived through all the madness.

Ari M.

Yelp
I just got a slice of their cheese pizza but it was delicious! They have such a great variety of options, so there's something for everyone.

Mercedes S.

Yelp
Recently ordered pizza from Uptown Pizza and I was pleasantly surprised! I wanted to try a new pizza place and they did not disappoint. I ordered takeout and the service was great! Highly recommend.

LaRae C.

Yelp
The food was great. We ordered plain cheese and with olives. service was impeccable too. Great family spot

John C.

Yelp
I've gotten their pizza dozens of times, and we love it because they have the "Magnum" extra super duper large pizza. It's good quality, New York style pizza, better than all the chain pizzas.

Mia L.

Yelp
ASS MAC AND CHEESE also jack was great!!!! he should get $$$$$$$$$ jack helped my grams in the door and was so helpful to my autistic friend audri

Amanda B.

Yelp
Pizza was amazing. The Caesar salad was subpar. The wings were yummy but I'm pretty sure they were baked which I was not expecting.

Shawn L.

Yelp
Pretty decent pies. I've gotten delivery three times and the pizzas have been quite good. My first order was the best of the three, but overall each was quite good. The crust had a nice flavor profile, as did the sauce. For a delivery pizza it was reasonably priced. The toppings were quite good, they used fresh jalapeños not pickled (huge ++) Well worth a try.

Kevin O.

Yelp
Good Supreme pizza. Really different from my last year picture. I was hungry, doing laundry and didn't feel eating fish, so this hot the spot.

Jeffrey C.

Yelp
Years ago when I was working at a local business, my coworkers introduced me to uptown Pizza and more specifically their buffalo chicken pizza. Let me just say that I've been addicted to that pizza for years now and we have ordered it so many times. They don't deliver to my location, but thankfully Grubhub does all the other pizzas are also very good from what we tasted

Jakob E.

Yelp
This is the that greesy, heavy, hole-in-the-wall pizza joint you order to feed the family while chilling on a rainy or snowy day. This pizza is not any of that fancy stuff found at many of the pizzerias around the Twin Cities. This is good old fashioned pizza that will slap ya with the itis after your final bite. And try them garlic knots, they are insanely good. Make sure to chew stick of gum though before conversing with your partner. Stop in and grab a slice, or order take out or delivery. Beware the delivery though. The pizza will arrive fresh, but the delivery time is crazy long.

Charlie B.

Yelp
Delivery will take no less than 1.5 hours. It doesn't matter what time of day it is, it doesn't matter how little or how much you order. Absolute minimum order time will be 1.5 hours. And if you call to inquire about your order at the 1.5 hour mark, you will not get a warm reception from whomever answers the phone. Believe me, I've been through this process a few times now and it's always the same thing. Today it took two hours and 31 minutes. This is the last time I order from them.

Jessica A.

Yelp
Love the crust on this pizza! It always comes to my door nice and hot! And the cheese is sooo melty and delicious! I can't get enough of this place. They also have really good cheesy garlic bread!

Alex O.

Yelp
Driver literally stole my order. I called the store and they said that Slice gave them my wrong address. I called Slice and confirmed my correct address. Slice called the store and was told that I never answered my phone or door. Great way to run a business. Makes me sad but will never have Uptown Pizza again.

Annie M.

Yelp
Uptown Pizza is simply quite special. This place is a vibe. Every single thing was very delightful and I can not wait to go back already. The team was extremely welcoming and service is amazing. Go try Uptown Pizza out.

Maggie S.

Yelp
Uptown Pizza has the best, cheesiest pizza in the Twin Cities. We love Mark, who we think is the owner? Because sometimes he gives us free knots. When he doesn't give us free knots, we order the knots, because they are doused in butter and garlic-y deliciousness. This is an edit from my original post because I read some of the other reviews. I live about 2 miles from Uptown Pizza and they always say delivery is going to take 60 minutes or so, but they have always come in under that time. I wanted to address this criticism in my post because I've had a really great experience with delivery.

Lindsay B.

Yelp
I wanted to try this place because lots of friends of mine say it their go-to place for pizza. I went there late on a Sunday (11:00pm late) and I called ahead and they put me on hold immediately for a little bit, so I figured they were busy? No big deal really but when I got there there were only two workers and they aren't making any other pizza's just in the back. They didn't seem like the friendliest people but it was late at night. I ordered the Sunday Night $15.00 20" 1-topping pizza deal and it was huge! The pizza had sausage on it. It wasn't the most amazing pizza I've ever had but it hit the spot, and so many leftovers to be had! I ordered the garlic knots as well, they were very good but very oily. I could only eat one because I knew I would easily get a stomach ache eating them. Overall the pizza was okay, the service was somewhat poor (but in the end they got the job done and gave me a pizza), and I'm not sure if I'd go back again with some many other pizza places nearby. Their normal prices were a little high for me. But you never know! I wanted to come back and try their baked potato pizza until I saw instant potatoes on their shelf. I would like to try other places first before I come back and take a stab at this place again! But I still think people should try this place because so many people I know love it and everyone has different tastes. The staff are going be what they are gonna be and that's whatever.

Helen A.

Yelp
Marketing genius--the only restaurant open on Thanksgiving, which I appreciate since I just came out of surgery. Also the worst "food' I've ever tasted. Pros and cons, take it or leave it, I guess.

Nick M.

Yelp
I used to think of Uptown Pizza favorably, but they have really let it slide over the last few years. Initially pizzas like the Manhattan (Canadian bacon, tomato, jalapenos), Thai Chicken (chicken, pineapple and coconut on spicy sauce), and the San Antonio (chicken, tomato, bacon) were novel and interesting pies. And they were, to the extent that Uptown delivered them on time and in one piece (meaning cut for eating but not looking like it had been involved in a rollover crash). Over the last several years, though, the standards have fallen and now it typically takes 1.5 hours to receive the pizza, and sometimes you feel like it won't come at all. I have also experienced the situation where the drivers/employees don't seem to know where the place is, even though they've been there numerous times and it's all set out on a grid. I guess that's their default excuse for whatever problems are going on in the pizza production and distribution areas. It's a shame, because while it's a little sleazy I kind of liked Uptown, especially their willingness to deliver late in a city that lacks an abundance of midnight-hour places. Now, though, after many late-night tries with them, I think I'm done. The pizza has developed a reputation of showing up extremely late, with few condolences, and one time we had to literally shut the door in the driver's face because it was like two-plus hours from the point of order. What does show up is, all too often, gross and inedible. I wouldn't suggest getting anything but their signature pies because they don't seem to know how to make a pizza with specific toppings properly and deliver it quickly. The pizza is almost always a mess, and tastes worse than a frozen pizza would. Their garlic toast is stale, the chicken wings are probably worse than Domino's, and the garlic knots are liable to have several fluid ounces of grease dropping out of them once penetrated. Oh Uptown, I once knew ye. I'm afraid you'll never regain your luster. Now we all regret, regret, regret.... If you've never tried them, give it a go sometime and then review it. Afterward you might find yourself with a new-found love for American Pie Pizza.

Jack M.

Yelp
Only dealt with them twice since Mark sold...first time they botched order...today lady with an attitude wanted to argue and waste my time...bye bye

Ann P.

Yelp
My favorite pizza ever! The pizza dough is crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Loaded with cheese and all the toppings are fresh and flavorful. Highly recommend.

Clinton L.

Yelp
This is great pizza place, if you are looking for pizza with extra cheese on it. A little greasy but does the trick. Great portion size on the cheese bread! I used their online ordering tool. It was a little clunky and it did not give you an accurate estimated delivery time upon receipt. The coupon code did not work either. If you got the time, this is place for you!

Elena P.

Yelp
Hands down the best pizza I've had since moving to the Twin Cities, with the possible exception of Big River Pizza - but they are different genres; Uptown is a neighborhood slice/delivery place, Big River is pickup-only and restaurant-focused. The crust had the perfect chew and was shaped really well. The sauce had a bit too much oregano for my taste, but there was exactly the right amount of it. The toppings were generously distributed without being overwhelming. And best of all, the pizza arrived within an hour, hot. Great experience. I am crying a little from the beauty.

Trev M.

Yelp
y'all done messed up. where did the thin crust go? where did the square cut go? where did the delicious spicy sauce go? jesus christ what happened? we believed in you and you let us down. bring back the sauce.

Ellen C.

Yelp
The people here are friendly - patient waiting for you to order, patient in answering questions about their menu, so I upped their review by a star to 3. The place doesn't have any seats to eat your pizza and when we arrived around 7:30pm on a Friday night they didn't have any slices left. When we came back around 8:15pm to pick up our order, someone else was being disappointed by the place not having any slices ($3) available either. I'm thinking they run out pretty frequently and maybe don't spend the extra time to make more. Maybe because it's not popular enough for them to make more? I'm not quite sure. Anyhow, we ordered the buffalo chicken. The pizza pie just isn't very flavorful. The crust is usually one of the parts that I look forward to finishing up, but I wasn't impressed with this crust. I thought the sauce was a bit bland for being a spicy buffalo pizza sauce, but the cheese quality is obviously great. There wasn't much chicken and all in all, it was about $22 for a large pizza, which was more than I wanted to pay for this type of pizza. It's a great local place and they deliver in this area for free, so that's nice! They're supposed to be open until 2:30am so a great place to stop by late at night. They probably have slices available then.

Jared K.

Yelp
They just delay your order. Customer service super poor. When they answer the phone they just hang up on you. Never order from this place.

Tommy S.

Yelp
- easy and convenient location - pizza is solid, not great, not bad....go to, local place. - good sauce, great cheese. - pizza is always cooked right....never under done. $ - prices are high for what you get - place is dirty....like your favorite local whiskey bar, but for pizza. - they sell pizza by the silce....veggie people have to watch out for cross contamination because some "slice pies" are cooked half cheese and half pepperoni

Uptown Foodie G.

Yelp
AVOID!! Ordered a pizza at 5pm on Sunday and they told me one hour wait. 90 minutes later I called (nicely) and they said 30 more minutes. The guy did not even apologize. After 3 hours I called back and they put me on hold and never answered the phone again. My pizza still has not arrived. Worst customer service ever. I ate there once before and the pizza was ok, but nothing special. I'll never go there again.

Kara C.

Yelp
Decided to order here after receiving a coupon in the mail and it was debatably the worst pizza we've ordered in uptown, and we order a lot of pizza. I ordered a Caesar salad which did not come with the order. I called to tell them that they forgot it, to which I was told "no, it's not on the ticket"... well, I went over the order twice and you repeated it back to me, so it probably should have made it onto the ticket. No apology, no anything. Wouldn't even let us order and pay for the salad unless we ordered more to meet the delivery minimum. On top of that, the pizza was terrible with plastic-y cheese and literally NO SAUCE. So yeah basically I would recommend not ordering here.

Alicia D.

Yelp
We just tried this place for the first time. The pizza was extremely salty...even when we took off the olives it remained salty leading us to believe it is the pizza dough itself. We are disappointed :(

Berta D.

Yelp
If it wasn't for the mystery sauces (see photos), I'd have no problem giving it 5 stars for timely delivery and good food. However, I did call to ask if they served different types of marinara sauces and I was told that no, it's all the same stuff. Mmmmmm- nope, one tasted like alcohol, 1 tasted like hot sauce, and the 3rd tasted like marinara. See photo for visual differences as well.

Libby B.

Yelp
Gross. You find the coupon in your apartment mailbox, and you think to yourself, "Hmm...maybe I should break away from my mainstays!" After waiting for your pizza for over two hours (seriously), the pizza arrives and it's soggy, yet a little rubbery. Do not choose this adventure. If it were possible to give 0 stars, I would. Slow service and not-very-good pizza? Ugh.

Emily S.

Yelp
Uptown Pizza is my go-to pie shop for three reasons: it's cheap, it's generous, it's no-frills. I prefer an Uptown pie to Pizza Luce ANY day. They're a small, friendly bunch that doesn't mess around with vegan toppings or gluten-free crusts. It feels very classic. They offer a big, weird (there's broccoli AND coconut) selection of toppings, but I find it's best to order something simple. I love cheese, and mountains of it. At Uptown, if you order extra cheese, you get super DUPER extra. The sauce is flavorful. The crust is solid. And once you're a customer, they'll send you adorable neon-colored coupons in the mail, all the time. Basically, when you're craving straight-up, Monday-Night-Football, 90s-teen-movie style pizza, Uptown's your gal. And hey--how can you ignore that "Magnum" pizza size?

Jennifer H.

Yelp
We gave this place another try after a gross pizza experience a few years ago. Unfortunately we had forgotten how bad the pizza actually is when we ordered it. It took well over an hour for it to arrive and the guy couldn't find our house. Now, it's not like we live in St. Paul where the streets all have names and you need an atlas, sextant, and sherpa guide to find your destination. We live in South Minneapolis on [number]th Avenue and [number]th Street South. The pizza. Was awful. Bland, flavorless, limp crust. Cloyingly sweet sauce (like that stuff in the Chef Boyardee Pizza Kits). Thick mat of questionable cheese. Sausage that tasted off. Shriveled green peppers. I'm not actually sure if we got our onions. We ended up just throwing a lot of it away. This does not happen in our house.

Dan H.

Yelp
Gross. Took them forever to get us a rotten pie. And when it finally arrived it tasted like it was made by a drunken 4 year old. Good grief. In a neighborhood fitlhy with good pies why in the world anyone would put up with this joint is beyond me.

Jennifer H.

Yelp
Uptown Pizza dropped off flyers in my neighborhood so I thought I'd give them a try. I started wondering when I saw that there were no prices on their flyer and then no prices on their website. Still, I was curious and ordered one of their specialty pizzas. Wish I hadn't. It came with different ingredients than what was listed on the flyer. How can you mess up your own advertised specialty pizza? I'd understand it if they'd misheard some crazy combo I'd made up, but this was their own advertised promotion. I'm not sure it would have been all that great if they'd gotten it right, but as it was, the fact that I ate any of it was only a measure of my hunger and that I had nothing else in my fridge.

Pete M.

Yelp
I hadn't ordered from them for years, I decided to give them another try. Now I remember why I stopped ordering. Let's start with the positives: Pizza arrived on-time, was piping hot. Now the negatives. The bottom crust was not baked at all, so all the grease sunk to the bottom and fused with the delivery box, so the next day I had the fun of scraping it out of the box. Yum. Guys, if you deliver a pizza in this state, there's this new crazy invention called tinfoil. You may want to try it underneath your grease-wheels. For pizza in the Uptown area, it's spendy, even with the never-ending $2 off coupon that you can print off their website. Which, by the way, does not specify pricing. So if you're trying to figure out what a large 2-topping will actually cost you, you have to actually call them and talk to their phone guy, who will "swear to God this will be the best pizza you've ever ordered!!!" (1) Not so much. (2) I don't believe in God. Finally, after all was said and done, the pizza arrived and it was as bland as Jay Leno at 9PM. No 'zing' whatsoever. Not that they should have put Jalapeños or something on it, it just didn't have character. I kind of wish I'd ordered Domino's with their new slogan "Hey we know our pizza has sucked for years, and we've spent a bajillion dollars on advertising trying to convince you it doesn't suck, but now it doesn't suck anymore. Really. We swear!"

Dan G.

Yelp
First of all, let me say that i LOVE Uptown Pizza's pizza!!! It is, by far, the best delivery pizza I've had in Minneapolis. BUT, i have big issues with their delivery. The last time i ordered, I was quoted 30-45 minutes. An hour and a half later, my pizza was still not here. Like I said, I love their pizza, but they really need to get their delivery issues fixed!

Elena T.

Yelp
'ZA-RIFFIC. $3 slices, melt in your mouth garlic knots and Magnum size creative and classic pizzas. Chill staff, coupons all the time, open late and pizza done right. Highlights: Huge $3 Slices Garlic Knots Buffalo Chicken Pizza Uptown Pizza = Slice me.

Annie S.

Yelp
We like Uptown! The taco pizza is a favorite of mine. If it's the two of us we get a Pepperoni extra cheese. Have people over on Sunday night and order the Mag pizza - one topping is on special and it can feed at least 6 people. Delivery is always fast and friendly.

Dana C.

Yelp
Really good pizza but the quality can vary greatly and delivery is pretty expensive. The crust is crisp and the cheese is good quality. I live close by so it is convenient and in my opinion better than pizza luche. Main problem is the price and the quality variance. This place really deserves better than 3 stars, good for local pizza. Broders is the best but I don't live by there so I usually settle for uptown.

Mark H.

Yelp
I have loved uptown pizza for years and have spent thousands of dollars with them. One thing that made them better than others is that they are local and did not play all the games with delivery fees and other things. Today I called to order a pizza for my regular order it had increased by $2.00 I questioned the employee and he said it was their new delivery fee. I am very very disappointed that they went to that level just to get more money. I can understand price increases due to increased food prices but to hide it in a delivery fee is frustrating. I guess I will just have to order from Luce where they don't have a delivery fee and now it looks like they offer points to earn "stuff". Gunna miss uptown pizza a lot unless they remove the delivery fee.

Madelaine A.

Yelp
Never a dull moment when ordering uptown pizza. They load it up with tons of toppings! They have tons of choices as well. I've had the best pizzas living in NYC and uptown pizza reminds me of NYC pizza. I've ordered at least 10 times now and one time it was slow. I order the 20 inch pizzas too. Will always order from them for a good pizza night!

Erik T.

Yelp
These folks are "having a laugh." Even after reading a "stay away" review I thought I would give these guys a chance. They use to be a solid Uptown option, not so much anymore. An Hour and seven minutes after I ordered my basic one topping pizza. I get a pizza fully loaded with toppings, I called them to explain, Them: "yeah we were just about to call you... We're gonna fire up another one for you. Me: what should I do with this pizza? Them: Give it to the driver. Me: Why? after sampling this pizza albeit, I didn't order, all I can say is gross. I'm now 95 mins in to this thing and I don't even want my previous order...and I can guarantee no refund, no coupon. I really hate writing this but ...it's expensive tasteless crap! I echo the many other previous reviews and say ....stay away!

Jaren J.

Yelp
Had a slice of sausage pizza. Man was that good. Good cheese and sauce and the sausage was just the right kind of spicey. Kind of an old school pizza joint. Don't let the outside appearance fool ya. Will definitely go back if I'm in the area.

Molly Y.

Yelp
I wanted to give it a 2 or 3 star but I do order from them about couple times a month, so I must think it's more than "ok". I always get the same things, half mushrooms and half pepperoni (for my BF), and it's always been pretty good. However, they tend to over load on the cheese, and trust me I'm a cheese lover but it's been too much so I now ask for it with less cheese. Never great but never bad for a pizza DELIVERY...

Pablo F.

Yelp
Great pizza but I believe they changed ownership and have just had the worst delivery service since. What would take 30 minutes now im waiting 2 hours. Been ordering for years now but am becoming annoyed with this.

Jon F.

Yelp
Value didn't match the quality. Ordered wings and a large taco pizza. The wings had solid flavor and we're meaty. The toppings weren't very fresh, the cheese wasn't great and just overall mediocre pizza. Wouldn't have been a problem except the fact that it cost $40. Way too expensive for what I got.

Patrick M.

Yelp
absolute garbage. Took over an hour and a half to deliver. Order was cold and not correct. Called back furious. Owner said too bad. Called bank for stop payment. Absolute trash

Laurel L.

Yelp
I order from here pretty frequently- it's actually my go to pizza place. The pizza is relatively cheap and big, so you get bang for your buck. I'm also a fan of cheese, and they add plenty of it! I always order delivery, and they are very quick about it. Usually estimating 45-1hr wait time, but I almost always get in around 30 minutes. Also they give out lits of coupons, so I make sure I use them :) The only problems I've had were them sloppily cutting the pizza/the pizza not being cut through all the way. This last time I think they also changed their sauce. It used to have a little kick, but now it's kinda sweet. Hope they change it back soon. The spiciness is what always made me come back for more :)
