Stumbled across this place while on vacation. Had a terrific dinner experience from start to finish. Gabi was amazing taking care of everyone in our party. Definitely recommend checking out Urban Coalhouse!

Urban Coal House Pizza and Bar in Brick New Jersey has a great vibe and solid menu. The wood fired pizzas hit the spot and the cocktails are creative and well mixed. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff was friendly when they actually had the chance to chat. Plenty of TVs and a comfortable setting make it a fun spot for a casual night out. Now for the downside. There was a noticeable fruit fly problem during my visit. They were buzzing around my head and landing on the table more than I was comfortable with. It was annoying enough to be distracting but not so bad that I walked out. Definitely something the management should address right away. The food deserves credit. The pizza crust is crisp on the outside and chewy in the center. The toppings are fresh and the portions generous. I tried a couple of appetizers that were hit or miss but mostly tasty. One of the bartenders even recommended a seasonal pie that was surprisingly good. We also got the lobster roll, and you can definitely skip this. Not a lot of lobster versus a lot of roll. Could have been cooked better as well. I think the best part was the beer selection and the service. We were greeted quickly with a smile, got a table and enjoyed great service from a very bright and happy waitress. We were made to feel welcome and when I asked for a taste of a few beers there wasn't anything but a generous "you got it!" So it comes down to this. If they get the fruit fly situation under control this could easily be a four star place. For now I’d call it three and a half. Good food and a fun setting but please fix the bug issue.

Very tasty chicken cooked on coals and margarita pizza. Helpful and friendly staff.

We stopped in for a quick drink and snack. The bartender was so kind. There was a great selection of both food and drinks. Our visit was in the afternoon but I'm guessing that the place gets going in the evenings. I would absolutely visit again.

Enjoyed pizza, garlic bread and some wings. Food was great as always. Service was a bit slow and then at the end, somehow my credit card got lost coming back from their register. The server and manager both acted like I had something to do with it. Just very disappointing that no one seemed to care. We won't be returning.

This was my first visit. The smell when you walk in is enough to make you stay. We ordered drinks that were great, the bartender was fun, and the staff was friendly. We ordered fried calamari, the chicken ranch flatbread, artichoke pizza, and spinach and articoke dip. Everything was delicious. I was surprised. IF I had to say something negative, the waitresses/servers shouldn't all be fixing their lipgloss next to the tables, and the dip was a little burned, but the flavor was good.

While the "dining in" may be wonderful my commentary is regarding their takeout. I recently ordered a large pie and was greatly disappointed. First off the appearance of the box was like someone had sat on it. Then it was raining on the day in question and 4 of the slices in my pie were wet. Lastly when I called I was told by the manager that because they use a 3rd party to deliver there was nothing he could do. Here is my thought, first their pizza boxes should come with a quality seal to ensure that it doesn't come open while being carried and this would ensure product integrity. Second, they should have disposable paper covers for days when it rains to keep the boxes dry and water out of the product. Lastly they should do better at customer service as 3rd party delivery people don't have to ensure the quality of their product. That's the restaurants responsibility no matter if it's dining in or delivery. Would they blame the server if a person's meal was presented or prepared the wrong way?? With that being said this is the ABSOLUTE last time I order from this restaurant.

We had an 18th Bday/Graduation party last night for our daughter, and everything was wonderful. The food was excellent, and the service was friendly and accommodating. I would recommend giving them a call for your next family party. They have a room that seats up to 30 people. The servers, bus staff, and manager were all very professional and efficient. Everything was so nice. We really had a memorable evening. My daughter LOVED it!

Delicious. Not to long to order. Cook the way I wanted it , but 18$ a little on the pricey side. But other than that amazing .

Ordered pizza and calamari the other day on Super Bowl Sunday. Picked it up, the food was good I thought. Definitely gotta try more pizzas here, seems like a nice spot

Loved the service, the house salad was excellent, wings were good, but expected more out of the pizza. I expected crisp pizza, nice burn on the bottom and crust but why the bottom wasn't crispy was disappointing. How do you get it crispy on the top but not on the bottom? 3 is my score cause it's about the pizza!

Everything was great & I'm a harsh critic.Service & Food was Fantastic & Fast too.Nice ambiance in a clean establishment.My party of 4 had pizza ,Wings, burgers and salads .No one was disappointed:)

A favorite stop for my husband and I. Excellent service, great pizza. Very comfortable whether it's just us or a larger group.

We have been here twice. We have family in the area although we're not from New Jersey. The food is very enjoyable especially the wings. The service is OK. Our waitress was just a little too casual in the way she spoke to us but I didn't have that experience the last time so I guess it's just the luck of the draw. The salads are also fantastic here and the pizza is very good. I would definitely come back the next time we're in the area since our family loves the place and goes there regularly.

My girlfriend and I decided to give this place a try after passing it so many times. After eating here, I truly wish we just kept driving. To put it simply, this place makes awful pizza. I see there are other reviews where people rave about the pizza and we had high hopes. It's now clearly obvious other reviewers have low standards for pizza which is wild because NJ does actually have very good pizza, just not this place. The pizza was overwhelmingly flavorless and the slices were flaccid. To break it down further, they are using cheap ingredients which is reflected in the lack of flavor. The slices of sausage and pepperoni on our pizza were laughable in terms of size and quality. It is actually amazing that they were able to combine so many ingredients and produced a pizza devoid of flavor. If you look at other reviews which are 5 stars and share pictures of their food, it looks mediocre at best. Save yourself the money and keep on driving.

Horrible food horrible service. Waited for the bar tender to notice us to get change and to tell him that our food was horrible. Ignored us the entire time because he knew we would say it wasn't good. I never take back food back but this pizza is absolutely horrible, no flavor and very under cooked. We were so excited to come check this place out and it turned out to be nothing but a disappointment. Don't waste your time and money on over priced food that isn't worth it

We really like this place. The pizza, burgers, meatballs and grain bowls are a few of our favorites. My husband is always pleased with the beer on tap and I think they make one of the best sangria's around. Friendly employees and the place is always clean

6/22/20 Outdoor dining is permitted now in NJ. KELLY. who has been here a few years is back. She's a sweetheart. We ordered a large plain pizza and beer. The pie was good but when it came out it was only warm. It was promptly returned and came out shortly piping hot. The pizza was still not excellent due to the fact that the bottom was far too burnt, but edible. Maybe the cook had a bad day or he/she is still getting the "kinks" out. Beer was excellent.

This is my favorite place to go. They have the best staff. The food is good. They have a good beer selection. Its our Cheers! The apple salad is good. Get pizza with extra cheese and bacon. Arugula salad is good. Wings are like your mom would make. White pizza is good. My husband loves their garlic bread! Its like a pizza with garlic and mozz cheese. So good! Have an Icarus tap beer. You will not regret it!

I made a yelp account to be able to review. This would be the second time eating here and doubt will ever return. Was out to eat catching up with a friend, when there was a cockroach walking along the wall directly behind us. I informed one of the waitresses, to which the bug was killed with no other interaction with our table. Our waiter was busy with another table going over to them multiple times but turning around to walk away whenever we tried to get his attention. We were finally helped by one of the bus crew, he was the best service we had the whole night. By the time our waiter came over to us, we were finishing our meal. He came back with a check without asking if we wanted anything else. Honestly I understand busy nights but tonight was awful. Still thinking about the roach.

Ordered a Caesar salad which was $14 for some lettuce, parm cheese, and a few croutons added grilled chicken for $6 which was six small cubes of chicken not even equal to the size of one chicken breast. Never again Urban Coal House!

We were there last year the staff was nice and well attended even though there were a couple big parties going on. I was not happy with our pizza as well as other coal fired Pizza everyone I have gotten so far has been burnt on the bottom and raw on top. One day we will give it another try but if they screw up our pizza I'm sending it back

Consistently good with probably the best pizza in Howell. Understated and often overlooked but a very decent Italian eatery with great service and food!

Great wings and cocktails. Bartender was very friendly. Also had the sausage and broccoli rabe, delicious!

We found this place by chance and didn't expect much. We started with the wings, meatballs and Brussel sprouts and they were all really good! We split Pizza and the Penne Bolognese. The pizza was cooked perfectly and the bolognese was surprisingly one of the better ones we have had in a long time. The service was really good too.

Have been here about 6 times. Always good first few times in the Fall and Spring. See a lot of new faces (servers). Went in tonite with my wife. The place was busy. Not sure if a few servers called out (on a Saturday?) but the place seemed short staffed. Service was slow. Didn't seem like there was any direction from management. Busser wiping stuff off end of table right onto the floor. NEVER seen that until tonight. Food was very good as usual but a lot of restaurants have food that is very good. What separates places is the service. UCH has been going noticeably in the wrong direction lately. Gonna give it a rest and go back to some other places for awhile.

Update to my last review. Revisited as I previously said the food was very good. My waiter Bob, also the bartender is the BEST! His personality, humor and attentiveness was incredible. My lunch mate is a bit of a pain and he handled her very well, trust me; she is difficult. Had the margarita pizza, coal fired wings and the balsamic calamari, well made and delicious. Will definitely be back.

They have a very nice selection of craft beers on tap and in bottles. The broccoli rabb and sausage is very well prepared for a restaurant which does not advertise as Italian. It is perfect for parties because of the way the seating is arranged.

While i am so glad this place is operating during COVID i was not so glad throughout my dinner. Waitress was not so pleasant and my glass was dirty with lipstick. The food isn't really all it's cracked out to be, very bland just not what i expected from an establishment like this. Definitely won't be coming back.

Did not disappoint. We ordered the chicken wings for an appetizer and I'm very picky about my chicken wings. They were super crispy, had carmelized onions and bread. We ordered two large pizzas to share between four people and still had left overs. The pizzas were good, nothing special. They had a great beer on tap selection. Would definitely come back.

I had chicken wings I ordered you a 20 of them was $32 which I thought was a lot of money but I don't mind paying but they were small and they're over cooked and dry and I believe maybe they got another cook in there because the food used to be good but Consumer beware the chicken wings I don't know how they got them that small they look like parakeet wings

I was in town on a trip and stopped in for takeout. I got the apple salad and a white pizza. Both amazing flavor and taste. The quality of the food was top notch, trust me go , sit at the bar have a cocktail and enjoy the amazing pizza.

Great beer selection and I love the coal fired wings. Pizza selections are also great. I do find the prices a little steep though. I have done dine in and take out before. Take out wasn't that great.

I'm really not sure what the story is behind Urban Coalhouse, but I like it! The same location used to be Tommy's Coal Fired Pizza. We stopped in once during the rebranding or change over and thought it was just business as usual under a new name. Gave them another try while we were in the neighborhood and wow! I definitely think the recipes for both their sauce and dough has been refined. If not, maybe it was so long ago I forgot how much I liked them, lol. So while the menu has a ton of specialty pie options, we stuck with a classic large cheese ($17). The balance of texture and flavor were good. I would have liked it a little crispier on the bottom, but if you judge it by the lovely dough blisters, they couldn't have let it go much longer. I dined with my wife and one of my daughters and I got positive reviews from them. It does go a long way Service was very attentive and all in all a positive experience. I know the next time we're in the area and looking for a good pizza, we will be back.

The only reason this place is getting the extra star is because of the service. This is actually ridiculous. My brother in law ordered a lunch special for $12 of a PERSONAL pizza and side salad. My sister and I are Gluten Free, which isn't offered for a personal pizza, so instead we had to order a MEDIUM one topping for $18 and a salad that came out BARELY bigger than the side salad for $10. The pizza I am holding in my hand is the PERSONAL pizza and the one with mushrooms is the MEDIUM size GF pizza. This is actually comical to say the least. What a total rip off plus if you get a medium pizza, any additional toppings are $2 each. And for a personal it's $1... so this is just baffling.

We get takeout from here all the time. We get the family packs of chicken Parm, eggplant Parm and penne vodka with chicken. It's always good and always hot and we will continue to order from them. They have no problem when we ask for something special or different and you gotta love a place that gives you a huge pan of chicken Parm with a big thing of salad and bread for $34....we eat the chicken for days ...

Leaving three stars only because the food was delicious. The service...not so much. Came in on a Saturday afternoon with family. Ordered two orders of the wings which were amazing...except they forgot the focaccia bread on top. Our server didn't bring plates either. Must've of been because he walked out on his job mid meal. We sat and sat and until finally I asked the hostess to get our server. She asked who our server was to which I replied "good question". We sat with empty glasses and no silverware. Another waitress came over and acted like nothing was wrong. We had only been sitting there for thirty minutes with plates piled up! I was about to order coffee and dessert until she said "I'll get your check"...ok, guess we're done?! The table next to us looked like they had great service, and their wings had the focaccia.

ASK FOR NORMA. This place is warm cozy and slammin food. Coal fired wings to die for this place does not disappoint. Skip the lemon water

I'm surprised I haven't reviewed Tommy's before. I've been here maybe six times and would have given it 4 stars in the past, but this visit barely eked out a three. Past visits the staff have been very friendly and helpful; this visit I just didn't feel it. Four of us sat at the high tops near the bar and perused the menu. I haven't been here in over a year but it seems if the menu changed, I didn't notice. Maybe ten beers on tap with a decent craft selection.Three of us opted for individual pizzas while my brother had the wings. They brought out his wings first. The wait person brought them in less than five minutes of ordering them. While she was at the table he remarked, "that was fast" and while she was there he realized they weren't warm and had her return the wings so they could heat them up. I ordered a vodka pizza and got that before my brother's wings came back. I had a slice and this too wasn't hot; definitely not just out of the oven. I had to return my pizza too. The young waitress was a bit abashed by the whole ordeal but she kindly returned my pizza with due deference. Experience will show her in the future not to serve cold food. I thought my pizza was a three out of five. I don't know if this transition to "Urban" instead of Tommy's is a complete change of management or not. Regardless, these pizzas and wings were precooked. They couldn't have come out so fast. Things need to be done here or their 3 star average will drop.

Great burger ordered thru DoorDash and it arrived warm. Great fries too. I would definitely order from them again. Can't wait to try something else off their menu

Long day and I stop to get pizza.. this is the worst nasty pizza I have eat in my life under cook onprofessional make sauce is full acid can mush the chips mush you can buy it. Discosting......!!!!!!

I ordered the coal fried chicken and their signature garlic bread. Both delicious. The garlic bread has cheese in it which I wasn't expecting because I thought it was regular garlic bread but I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is nice and the staff if very friendly. Not a long wait either. I haven't been on a weekend yet so I'm not sure how busy it gets on weekends. But during the week it's usually calm and not too busy.

Pizza came out bearly warm. I asked for a cheese pizza not sure what it was. Some sauce scattered on top. The dough was soft and had zero flavor. We wanted to try Urban but were truly disappointed. The bartender and staff were great but food POOR.

Ok so it's almost 2 years since my last bad experience at Urban Coal House. This year I won a gift card during Christmas and had my daughter take it with her to use because she went there for an outing with friends.. I told her to order me the Wings to bring home.. weelll ... she came home and gave me the container.. and when I opened it... BURNT!!!! I've had these wings there a few times before when " Tommy's" first opened... They did not look like this. Lol I really have to laugh... I just don't get it.. but I guess I won't be returning to Urban..

Order from here today.Im a fan of the soup but not today as there was a bug in it idk how they could allow this to happen but I am very disappointed in urban coal house I will never return u lost a faithful customer

Our server Patricia was great, very attentive! Restaurant was very busy with a party of kids in the party room. The 2 females managers did a great job containing the very loud children, so other guests didn't get upset. Would definitely recommend people to come here! Wonder atmosphere!

Absolutely love this place! Never have I had a bad meal here. I always either sit at or near the bar and get prompt, courteous service. Definitely recommend the Margherita Pizza and the meatballs. Great liquor list that changes seasonally. See Justin at the bar. He's awesome!

I was a big fan of the Hoboken location when I lived in North Jersey- so happy to see another location near me now! It's hard to find a good brick-oven pizza and Urban Coal House is the place to go! They have good happy hour deals and friendly staff. There is bar and restaurant seating areas- both on the smaller side. Big fan of the pizzas, spinach dip and wings!

What a terrific find. Everything and more than we expected. We just left the Urban Coalhouse Pizzeria in Brick, NJ. It was our first visit, but it surely won't be our last. The food was excellent and the service was even better. Not being familiar with this establishment, we had many questions and even asked for suggestions. Our waitress, Liz, is such an amazing young lady. She was sweet, understanding and very patient with us, especially with me and my poor hearing. She repeated herself several times and never got annoyed. I wasn't sure exactly what type of beer to order, so Liz actually brought me a little test glass to taste one. It was awesome .... my new favorite beer. All in all, it was an excellent, enjoyable dining experience, truly enhanced by Liz ... probably the best waitress we ever had. We can't wait to go back. Tomorrow, perhaps????

Tried it for the first time and was disappointed. Spent the rest of the night in the bathroom from it. I don't recommend.

We went to Urban after we were given a gift card by a family member. We started with two side house salads, which were basically a bag of Walmart mixed romaine and iceberg with 4 grape tomatoes on it. My wife doesn't like olives, and asked for artichoke hearts instead. She received 4 small artichoke pieces on top of her salad, which we were charged $3.00 extra for. All in all, my small side salad was $10, and my wife's was $13. The waitress asked if we wanted some bread for our toddler to snack on while we had our salads, which we never received. Our margarita pizza was small and burnt. There was minimal cheese on it. The sauce had good flavor. It honestly looked like an overcooked "make at home dough" from Walmart, but cost us $18. With two glasses of water and one beer, our total was $51.xx. Needless to say, we won't be back.

Had a wonderful lunch with my siblings and some of our kids on Saturday. Read the reviews so it directed us to some very good choices. Mostly enjoyed the pizzas including the Breakfast pizza, Milano and Prosciutto and Arugula. All very good. Two of our party had the avocado toast which they totally loved. Our server, Norma, was a hoot and made the lunch even more special. She was attentive, offered suggestions and entertaining. It just added to the experience.

Had a great experience here. Food was really good. Enjoyed the specialty pizza & apps. Wait staff was excellent! Atmosphere was loud but fine. Reservations were great & seated immediately. Definitely try it!

Very good local spot to grab some pizza and beer. They have a good selection of beers and cocktails. The San Gregorio pie is by far my favorite and always hit the spot. Service has always been great to me. If in the area definitely a good spot for food, drinks and sports.
