The Best and Worst Jerky Brands for Your Next Road Trip, Ranked - Eater

"This Austin-based company puts out some of the country's finest jerky in any category, and this is my favorite American jerky at the moment. It's perhaps amusing that this stunner of a meat-free product is from Texas, the state that houses the bulk of the nation's beef cattle. But the dried mushrooms flaunt the ropy, toothsome mouthfeel of good Cuban vaca frita, and for the sriracha flavor, the 'shrooms pack a balance of heat and acidity while emitting a hint of smoke. The salty black pepper variety, by contrast, lets a faint mushroom flavor come through with more clarity. (For those who like something even chewier, the packaging recommends leaving the jerky out in a dark, dry place to tighten up the texture and create a more leathery mouthfeel.) Silicon Valley fake meat factories will always have a tough time engineering faux hamburgers that taste like real hamburgers, but this particular brand should serve as proof that high-quality mushrooms dried with care can exhibit eons more nuance than most commodity sirloins. Available via Amazon, or Whole Foods locations in the Austin area." - Ryan Sutton

Chris. Saved. Our. Wedding. Leading up to our September 2024 wedding, we had to manage the fallout of not one, but two caterings going out of business and taking our deposits. Urban Cowboy stepped in and did an amazing brisket and BBQ chicken dinner for our guests. He was super accommodating with vegan dishes too! He stepped up right away when he heard what Royal Fig had done to over a dozen clients and jumped in to cover with expertise kindness. He was super communicative with prices and options and worked with us knowing we were out thousands of dollars. Food was amazing, everyone complemented the spread. His bartenders were so fun!! They kept my wedding going, were lovely, and totally got the vibe of we were hoping for! We got super lucky with Urban Cowboy!!

We just had THE most phenomenal catering experience. We worked primarily with Jose who executed the exact vision we wanted for the reception. Everything from the lay out of linens, and dishes to incredible passed appetizers was amazing. The food was freshly prepared and everything cooked to perfection. Jose and his team were attentive to the bride and groom and their families being cared for as well during the reception seeing our attention divided between many things. Jose has been positive and quickly responsive to all questions or needs for clarification leading up to the wedding day. And truly made it all perfect for everyone. We had dozens of guests asking about the caterer because the food was SO good!! Jose and the team he worked with at our wedding event were professional and at the top of their game from beginning to end. We can't thank them enough!!

We love working with Urban Cowboy! The food is exceptional, the team is professional, and a true pleasure to collaborate with. The couples are thrilled with their choice of caterer, and it’s easy to see why—they put so much care and attention into every event, making all the difference. Having them at Vista West Ranch is a pleasure, and we’re already looking forward to the next opportunity to collaborate!

Google
Chris and his team catered my wedding in 2011 and recently catered my sister's wedding (at which I was responsible for the food). At both events, the food was incredible and the service was wonderful. In particular, at my sisters wedding, the venue was pretty unhelpful and Chris and his team picked up a lot of slack so the evening went smoothly. Unequivocally recommend this caterer!

Yelp
Chris and his team were PHENOMENAL! From the very first time we had a phone call, Chris picked up EVERYTHING I was putting down. We didn't want "Basic B" and had a vision of international flavors with a tropical theme throughout. Whoa. Just whoa. Together we came up with a killer menu that I will forever try to recreate. So flavorful, so unique, so sexy. The pineapple habanero agua fresca was a huge hit with tequila. We even had some GF attendees, so he took extra TLC to build recipes that were 90% accommodating to all. I wouldn't hesitate to hire Urban Cowboy Southern Fusion for your wedding or any special catering needs.

Yelp
Best catering company in Austin! Super happy with their service and highly recommend to anyone in need of catering.

Krissy S.

Yelp
First, I would like to say Thank you! I got 1of the 20 free meals they were serving in a community in South Austin. The portion was huge, meal and side was Amazing! Very pleased . Can't wait to try more.

Yelp
The team at URBAN COWBOY helped make my 90th birthday party festive and fun. They planned well, set the whole place up, and cleaned up without us lifting a finger. Jose even made a special margarita glass for me to enjoy my favorite beverage! Many people commented on how much they enjoyed the food and I especially liked the desserts. I would highly recommend your business to anyone planning an event! Patsy Griffith Austin, Texas 4/21/24

Yelp
Great service, GREAT FOOD. They really took care of my family and my very demanding mother-n-law. Will recommend them to everyone.

Lynn K.

Yelp
I can't thank Jose enough for treating us so well for our party. He even made a special present for the birthday girl! Urban Cowboy handled the set up, the decorations and the cleanup so we did not have to worry and we could add some finishing touches of our own. We had it all! Appetizers, grazing station, full bar, full dinner and MULTIPLE desserts. I checked the tables and the plates were empty! We also had the photo booth and that added s special touch. Thanks again for a wonderful party!

Kevin D.

Yelp
Do not trust these guys. They appeared to take our party and I let other caterers know and then backed out. You cannot rely on them.

Yelp
My wife and I used urban cowboy for our wedding catering back in November of 2022. Our experience working with Chris (the owner) was an absolute nightmare. He is extremely disorganized, poor at communicating, condescending, and would not admit when something did go wrong during our event. (Blamed the issue on us and our coordinator) Here is everything that happened: The food that was provided did taste good, but the process as a whole and working with Chris was horrible. He lost all of the notes from our initial food tasting. My wife and I had to somehow recollect everything months later since he could not find the notes, as none of our food and rental decisions were put in email after our tasting to follow up. There was not enough food provided for our guests at our event. We even had a handful of no shows on the day of as well. Every guest we spoke to said they were still hungry after dinner. We had also requested a specific amount of vegan meals for our guests with dietary restrictions and the staff on site did not bring it with them and did not even know about them. The worst part of the lack of food is how it was handled by Chris when we communicated with him after the wedding. Chris never admitted there was not enough food even when all 100 of our guests can attest to what happened that night. Neither of our parents even ate that night, wanting there to be more food for other guests. He kept assuring us when he was not even there, that there was enough food. He kept blaming that the lack of food was all our coordinators fault for not asking the staff for more, but we opted to go for family style which included more staff to bring food to the table when needed. He even went as far as saying "I have been to India and know how Indian weddings are. A buffet would have been more suitable as adding extra food and staff to serve would have cost a lot more for you." directly insulting my family's culture and showing his true colors. Not even half of our guests were Indian, so this reasoning isn't even valid. It was shocking to us that anyone would put anything like that in writing over email. We did receive a refund for the missing vegan meals, but not for the lack of food on the table, or the stress and embarrassment that came with this whole situation. Do not recommend working with Chris and Urban Cowboy.

Sue M.

Yelp
Where do I begin? Inexplicably, though I am used to a buffet being set up through the salad line first then the entree line, Urban Cowboy did it backwards so our guests who have fed back to me registered surprise there even was a salad buffet. They missed it entirely. This was a rookie catering setup error. Furthermore, the brisket was tough, dry and overdone, though I have heard from several the fish was amazingly good. The groom, interestingly, told me his brisket was underdone, so there was no consistency in the batches. I didn't try the fish so I have no personal experience. The green beans were underdone, very crunchy. I thought overall the food was meh for what I paid for it as mother of the bride. The owner has contacted me twice about this review, attacking me. He asserts he has seen pictures of the party and everyone looked happy therefore I am wrong in criticizing his particular service. He shouldn't delude himself and others into believing happy faces in general meant his individual contribution to the party was excellent. A total non sequitur. I invite you to scroll through his other negative reviews and ask yourself: is this the level of professionalism you expect from a catering service? Do you want to be attacked online and offline for simply giving your honest opinion? Three stars for the food and setup which was not horrible but not great either. One star for the extremely hostile customer service. Average it to two stars. Please. Check out his ad hominem responses to this and other reviews. Do you really want to give this person your business? And yes, he did send a syrupy sweet congratulatory email to our daughter entreating her to have me delete this review, misspelling our last name in the process. Nope. Potential customers need to understand with whom they are dealing. Hard pass on this hot mess. Chris claims that I am negative on the wedding in general and therefore that weakens my review. Not true. I have endorsed Bonita Brides (hair and makeup, an absolute five star experience), Chad Stone (photographer), The ice Plant (venue), and would love to endorse DJ Jeremy Wilkerson but I can't find a link to do so, as well as the florist, whose name was Lindsay something. Our guests raved about the florist throughout the reception while they criticized caterer. I am even handed in my reviews. My main problems with Urban Cowboy at this point are the gratuitous ad hominem attacks and the meh service. Amendment: due to the outrageous amount of attacking I have been subjected to by Chris post event regarding a 2 star rating, and his lying to Wedding Wire that I had never been a customer of his (which I disproved with my bank statements), I am reducing this review to one star. Stay far away from this shockingly hateful person. Wow.

Yelp
They catered a friend's 90th birthday party with over 100 guests. The food was barbecue and it was delicious. The staff was polite and efficient. Great job!

Yelp
Urban Cowboy's short bus food truck recently settled in a Desert Door Distillery on a Saturday afternoon. Didn't really know what to expect as I'd never even heard of them. Seems most of the pics on Yelp concentrate on actual fully catered events. Food looks beautiful; let's see how they did on street food. Well, holy smokes those were some good bites. Immediate favorite was the home made "loaded" tater tots. Perfectly fried little tater morsels gently covered in ranch, sriracha, and cilantro. This dish was so popular that they eventually ran out! I'm thinking I'd drive anywhere in ATX to find this dish again. Next fave was the steak and manchego taco. Tender beef paired with generous slices of avocado and chopped cilantro. In the same paper boat I also snuck in a crawfish salad slider garnished with a pickled okra. If I wasn't already full I also ordered a corn dog! Went back to the ranch and had a nap before I came back for drinks. Ol' Rooster wholeheartedly approved!

Yelp
Wells Branch Community Church hired Urban Cowboy Catering for our Benefit Gala and they did such a great job! Chris answers emails back extremely quickly and is good at catching the little details. He's clearly been doing this for a long time because he saved me several times when I missed something. Jose is the nicest guy and went above and beyond to help me with the linens. I had some last minute requests and he did all he could to make it work for our event. I'm so so thankful to Jose. Lena was our event manager and she was very flexible. They did a great job preparing the food and the filet mignon was delicious! It was cooked perfectly! The staff was such a pleasure and we were so thankful to have them at our event. Thank you Urban Cowboy!

Yelp
Urban Cowboy catered our recent reception this past Sunday night during a convention in Austin, TX. They were communicative and made sure we had everything we needed, down to tables and linens. The food was great and everyone raved about the grazing station. Never seen one as grand and so much good stuff! The desserts were a hit as well. Seriously, there were no leftovers at the end of the night. They were attentive during the evening and very friendly. I would highly recommend them and would use them again when in the area.

Yelp
This guy went on my work page to write a bad review and I have never had him as a client. He his bullying me to take down my review of his services.

Yelp
They catered a company Open House event for us and just did an outstanding job! Amazing service and really adhered to the schedule, and their staff was so personable and wonderful. The charcuterie board and appetizers were out of this world, and the desserts were incredible and the variety was so appreciated! Thank you for helping put on an amazing event!

Yelp
We worked Urban Cowboy Catering during SXSW 2023 and they were nothing short of INCREDIBLE. When I say incredible, I mean that we were literally the last company visiting SXSW who realized we needed cartering for a private party 2 days before the festival started. With basically zero time, tight staff, and a seriously packed schedule, Urban Cowboy rose the the challenge and assured us they could squeeze in the event and make it aweomse. And they delivered! The evening was completely seamless, delicious, and a great time. We can't wait to work with them again at future events in Austin.

Yelp
Rude and unprofessional. Wouldn't even take a phone call from me to discuss what I wanted.

Yelp
Chris and his team handled all the food and bar services at our wedding, as well as the set up and break down of the site. They did a great job. We had the food truck (bus ) serving tacos for dinner. After our tasting we had chosen the: ancho-raspberry braised short rib, fried avocado, grilled mahi-mahi, and crispy honey-sriracha fried chicken. All were delicious and a big hit with our guests. We loved the complimentary tapas/charcuterie type table they set up at our cocktail hour with cheeses, crackers, pickled veggies, etc. The staff were friendly. Chris was kind enough to respond to all my crazy emails with endless concerns and coordinations. We had passed apps as well. The steak negimaki (which they altered slightly for our preference) and the crab cakes were perfection. I'll say the cauliflower crostini was a little mushier and more oily than it was at our tasting. Bar service was smooth and staff were prompt to tidy as guests ate. The were efficient and thorough in the set-up and break-down of the site. Lastly, one of our vases blew over and broke at our cocktail pavilion. Even though it wasn't her responsibility (as the flower crew was still around) one of the UC employees, without being asked, cleaned and swept everything up right away. It's those little things that will make a difference on your big day! I would definitely recommend these guys for your catering needs. Friendly and hard working, well-priced, and very tasty - what more are you looking for??

Yelp
Amazing! Chris and his team were a perfect choice for our wedding. They were super accommodating, and even worked in our little garage to grill up the most delicious steak! They offered kid meals for the tiny humans that were there, which I loved. Get the crab cakes!!! I would highly recommend hiring them for your next event.

Yelp
Chris and his team catered our beautiful, rustic wedding at the Rambling Rose Ranch outside of Austin. The food was delicious, homestyle, high-quality, and eclectic, as requested! Urban Cowboy is a professional and easy-to-work-with caterer with a wide variety of dishes to choose from. They are responsive to your needs. Would highly recommend.

Yelp
Chris and his team catered our wedding reception in Austin (around 140 people) and the food was great! Several guests mentioned that they really liked the main dishes that we selected- the chorizo-queso filet mignon medallions and the chicken thighs with pesto and tomatoes. As we were planning the event, my husband and I had a good time going to Smithville to sample the food and Chris was very helpful in telling us about each dish and also provided ways that the dishes could be adjusted. The event went smoothly and we were pleased with the quality of food as well as the quality of service.

Lora P.

Yelp
The staff went above and beyond to make the day special. They were courteous , professional. The venue is perfect and the food was amazing. would definitely recommend. thank you

Yelp
Chris was extremely helpful with short-notice event! He provided our client with a delicious custom menu and cost saving guidance. We truly appreciate all of his hard work and look forward to working together in the future.

Yelp
I cannot express enough how amazing Chris Trapani and his team were catering my wedding a few weeks ago. First and foremost, his food is OUT OF THIS WORLD! Having to plan during a global pandemic was not easy, and I know he was thrown a lot of curve balls, but we immediately trusted his creative direction and put faith into him creating a wonderful meal. Which he knocked out of the park. He was so easy to work with and he had a lot of patience dealing with an emotional bride and I cannot thank him enough. Our guests have repeatedly told us how wonderful the food was, but how there was not waiting. Chris and his team were quick to refill and never left anyone disappointed. I highly recommend Urban Cowboy Catering and Chris for any of your catering needs. -Tara Hall

Jeremy Michael C.

Yelp
I worked with Chris and his team at Urban Cowboy to cater a company retreat in Austin. I cannot recommend them highly enough! Chris was kind and communicated quickly and clearly over email and phone before our event. He went out of his way to make sure we had plenty of food and appropriate options for our team as we planned the menu. During the event, everything went perfectly with our meals and food delivery. The meals came hot and on-time. Everything was cleanly packaged and clearly labeled. The food was not only DELICIOUS, but the PORTIONS WERE HUGE, too. Everyone on our team loved Urban Cowboy's food. We'll work with Chris and Urban Cowboy every time we need similar catering in Austin!

Yelp
I'm the Venue Manager at Celebrino Event Center in Georgetown and I HIGHLY recommend Chris and his team at Urban Cowboy. They catered for a bride of mine on June 6, 2020 and absolutely knocked it out of the park with the food, service, and attention to detail. The team did an amazing job, they really cared about the delivery and presentation of their service, his team is pleasant and efficient, and the FOOD - incredible!! I pay close attention to certain things with vendors at our venue, and what stands out to me most is when a vendor goes above and beyond for not only the venue but especially for our mutual client, because what's ultimately most important is the client's experience. Thank you Chris and your team for taking such great care of our bride and groom, and for the pleasure of working with you. We will see you back at Celebrino soon!

Yelp
We had Urban Cowboy Southern Fusion cater our wedding and we chose a taco bar drop off. It came with 2 protein options, salad, and two sides. It was AMAZING! I wish I had eaten more and that my husband had saved some food for us when he told people to take the leftovers home Chris went above and beyond in accommodating our needs and wants, he even threw in a couple extras for me and I was blown away! Definitely recommend!

Chloe S.

Yelp
We recently used Urban Cowboy for a neighborhood block party, and they were fabulous! Chris and his team were great to work with and were very professional. The team worked quickly and efficiently, and still delivered great tasting, fresh food to the event attendees. They have a very diverse menu that is unique and delicious. It definitely sets them apart from other taco trucks in Austin. Chris was great to work with during the planning process, and was willing to work with our budget constraints. He was very responsive and was happy to answer any questions we had. I HIGHLY recommend visiting the Urban Cowboy Southern Fusion truck and hiring them for your next event. You will NOT be disappointed!

Yelp
I don't know if it's possible to put into words how much I adore Chris and his team. From the second we spoke on the phone to the last bite of food on my plate, working with Chris was an absolute joy. He is the most helpful and knowledgable vendor I've ever had the pleasure to work with. He was an excellent communicator and sorted through my chaotic last few weeks with ease. The appetizers, charcuterie spread and taco bar were absolute hits. Everyone I spoke to was just raving about the food and presentation. I would work with Chris and his team again in a heartbeat. Thank you for everything

Yelp
I contracted Urban Cowboy to cater a large event that took place from Friday to Sunday. Even with ample notice (contracted 5-6 months in advance) and specific details surrounding dietary needs Urban Cowboy provided an abhorrent experience. Simple accommodations like Vegan or Gluten-free options were disregarded for some meals despite being confirmed upon leading up to the event. The quality of the food was wildly inconsistent and it was clear that our event was not priority to the owner. Timeliness was non-existent as many of the meals arrived 1 hour or later behind schedule. Our 9AM coffee and breakfast was ready at 10:30/11. We honestly felt embarrassed, frustrated, and ultimately conned. We chose Urban Cowboy for 5 star service and received a 1-2 star performance. The owner, Chris was rude when we initially expressed our concerns and thought it appropriate to explain that he "did us a favor." It was an $8200 favor that strayed from what we agreed upon. Adding insult to injury, Chris' idea of portions were children's size. We had countless guests complain about being left without food. Taking it one step further he failed to supply the appropriate amount of silverware. Just when we thought he had done his worst he insisted that we should be paying $250-300 for trash service despite "clean up" being included in be agreement. If you are considering Urban Cowboy for an upcoming wedding or event I strongly suggest you look elsewhere. They singlehandedly ruined our event.
google avatar

Amy C.

Yelp
I was not going to leave a review, as several people from the event I attended already said everything I wished to express. That was until our event organizer received a message from Chris, the owner, stating that an $8200.00 contract for a 200+ person event was a "favor" and that our "caliber of people" did not deserve his services. Each person paid between $70 - $120 to attend the event, which covered food, beverages, venue and extras. Now, to the food. I missed Friday dinner, as we were setting up camp. It was pasta, salad and rolls. Very inexpensive. Saturday breakfast was one small taco, 1 piece of fruit and a packaged muffin. Taco Cabana tacos are better. Saturday lunch was a small scoop of flavorless shepherd's pie, a bit of veggies, potato salad and a roll. In case you are wondering, the shepherd's pie was mashed potatoes, canned corn, green beans, carrots, and some ground turkey. Potatoes and potatoes means that meal per person was cost FAR less than $8 per head, especially since everyone did not eat, for various reasons. Saturday dinner was 2 small strips of beef, a handful of green salad and a bit of veggies. I was near the front of the line, so I got more than a lot of people. I hear the vegetarian offering tasted pretty good, but I didn't have any. Again, far less than $10 per person. I didn't bother with Sunday breakfast. If my group had not brought our own snacks and drinks, we would have gone hungry. I am very happy for those reviewers who received exemplary service for their weddings and parties, alas, we did not experience the same.

Yelp
We hired Urban Cowboy for our March wedding and are so glad we did! We did a tasting in the fall, and booked them right afterwards. Chris has many, many menu options, and we decided to have a taco buffet (fried avocado, chicken tinga, and carnitas) along with sides, hors d'oeuvres, and a tapas table. The staff helped prepare plates as guests went through the line. We also hired bartenders through Urban Cowboy. The food was delicious and perfect for our hill country backyard event. It also LOOKED beautiful! Working with Chris was great. He was very communicative, helpful, and patient the whole time. We talked mostly through email. I didn't get the chance to interact with any of the other staff, but I heard good things about the bartenders. We had a lot of out-of-state and foreign guests and they were wowed by the unique, tasty Texan tacos!

Yelp
I haven't seen anyone here comment on the quality of food, I was one of the few people who was "lucky" enough to experience Urban Cowboy's "Southern Fusion". Sure a lot has been said about the quantity of food delivered for an event with 225 cross country runners, the lack of gluten free and vegetarian options, and just dropping off the food and leaving immediately instead of serving and cleaning up as was agreed to. According to their website, the owner is a native of New York City, but has learned the techniques of southern cooking after attending a cooking school in Texas for a few years. A brief survey of his offerings this weekend shows that like many Yankees who come to Austin every year his knowledge of Southern Culture equates to outdated stereotypes and is mostly ignorant about Southern Cuisine. Friday Dinner: I wasn't there. I won't comment. Read the comments about vegetarians being served meat, and people being served wheat pasta that was "gluten free" Saturday Breakfast: Cold Taco, no hot sauce, with a side of pre-packaged muffins. I don't know how long you've been in Austin, but you can literally find a better breakfast taco in a gas station under a heat lamp at 2:00 in the Afternoon. Saturday Lunch: Shepard's Pie. For a caterer that brags on his Southern Cooking, he seems to be ignorant that Shepard's Pie is British Food, and it's the reason why people hold British Food in suck disdain. Now a good pot pie I can appreciate, but this was a casserole of ground beef, mashed potatoes, canned vegetables. The only time I've seen this offered in the South was in Beauregard Parish Detention Center. I declined to eat the pie and instead make my own lunch with ingredients I brought myself. NOTE: It should be noted that Lunch had arrived so late that the people who were competing in the Afternoon cross country run had missed this meal entirely. Saturday Dinner: Salad. No seriously, Salad. I think the vegetarians were served a very nice sweet potato dish that smelled nice, but as I am not a vegetarian and forks were not provided I had to do my best to eat a Salad with my hands. I got two strips of meat and some canned corn to go with my salad. Sunday Breakfast: Raw Sausage, Eggs, Cold Potatoes with a side of prepackaged muffins. Let's just say that by the time I got to Elgin and was able to go to a real restaurant that's been in Texas for over a century I was too sick to eat any real food. Now normally I'd just let this thing slide and I didn't come to this event expecting great food. I usually always bring my own, and I'm an excellent cook who has experience in catering for my friend's parties. But I came to have a weekend with my closest friends, run a few trails in the woods, and generally have a good time. My weekend overall was positive, except to find out that the owner has responded to some bad reviews by making false statements about the character of my friends and myself. And for that I decided to not ignore the subpar service of which you've heard about tonight, but to go into detail about how bad the food was because I wanted the people here who see his 15 five star reviews written by his family to know that even if he decides your wedding aligns perfectly with his personal convictions, the food will not be Southern Fusion.

Yelp
I was in town for the #data16 Tableau conference this week in ATX, and at our final "Data Night Out" party at the Palmer Events Center, this was one of the multiple food trucks on-site catering the event. The fish taco here at Urban Cowboy turned out to be my favorite, and it was one of the best fish tacos I've ever had - including after living in California. :)

Yelp
Great, tasty, well presented food. Easy to work with!Nice, friendly folks. Takes care of bussing tables and makes sure all the guests are taken care of. If you have a special request, be sure and talk with the owner, Chris as him and his awesome team can pull off some amazing things! We highly recommend Urban Cowboy Catering! #urbancowboycatering #realfood

Yelp
When we were searching for a food vendor for our wedding, we wanted something familiar, but with a bit of a flair and definitely full of flavor. Urban Cowboy's food was not only that, but also worked with our budget. From the beginning, Chris was so easy to work with and was on top of all the details. During the tasting, we got to try so many great options, and talked through different combinations of flavors and items to come up with the best menu possible. The catering team also makes sure to pack up to-go food for the bride and groom when the night is over! Would definitely recommend Urban Cowboy for anyone who wants delicious food, amazing service, and is a worry-free catering experience.

Yelp
We hired Urban Cowboy to provide catered food and a bar for our wedding in May. While our day was nearly perfect, our experience with Urban Cowboy left much to be desired. Unfortunately, I believe that since a brick and mortar store was in the process of opening right before our wedding, it distracted Chris and his team, resulting in our wedding not getting the attention we had hoped and quite a few issues. First, the good: the food itself was quite tasty! The mac and cheese was heavenly. Additionally, they were always willing to accommodate our requests, and did, for the most part. Now for the bad: TL;DR It was a huge disappointment and we certainly don't feel as though we got our money's worth. I would recommend finding another caterer--many of our issues seemed to stem from a lack of attention or dedication to the catering aspect of their business. Communication: They would only respond to our e-mails on Sundays, and even then, only in part. It often required sending multiple e-mails in order to get our questions answered--and even then, it was clear that communication failed on their end as evidenced by my next point. Bartender issues: In our emails, we discussed how well equipped the bartender would be to serve our event. We were specifically told that the "bartender will bring all supplies for opening wine/beer and a cutting board. They can bring a cocktail shaker as well". The bartender did not bring any tools whatsoever. Luckily, we had brought wine keys and scoops for ice, but no knife or cutting board. After the truck supplied the bartender with the knife and cutting board (for citrus), these items were not used. It took my father getting behind the bar and cutting limes for people to get their drinks prepared. Furthermore, the bartender was not well trained and struggled to poor even the simplest of drinks (way overpouring, then over correcting and way underpouring). At one point she told my uncle that she couldn't make him a bacardi and coke because she didn't have any rum...there were 5 handles right next to her... Food issues: 1. One of the entrees was supposed to be cherry-ancho glazed short ribs. This is something we were very excited about. The ribs we received were not short ribs. We understand that small substitutions may occasionally be necessary, but the main cut of meat was substituted, which had impacts on both the flavor and price. 2. The other entrée was supposed to be the sriracha chicken, with the sauce on the side. We did not receive the sriracha sauce, but a different sauce altogether. Once again, this substitution completely changed the meal. Service issues: Prior to the wedding, we communicated the timeline to ensure that we were on the same page. Although the wedding ceremony ran about 15 minutes late, the dinner service was much more delayed. Dinner was not ready until after 6:00. Throughout dinner, our mothers had to find the staff to refill the trays of food. We had guests standing in line with 2 of our 5 dishes completely empty with no one on site to refill them. We paid extra for your cake cutting service. The staff was not prepared to provide this service, and once again had to be found in order to fulfill it. In addition, many guests had to cut pieces for themselves, because the three tiered cake was cut from the top-down, with no separation of layers. The last layer was never cut at all, leaving guests to completely help themselves. Additionally, not enough beverage serving containers were brought, and we had to provide an additional serving vessel that was intended for another purpose.

Yelp
There are food truck tacos and then there are Urban Cowboys' tacos! OMG! Just polished off the short rib and it was beyond what you'd expect for a taco. This thing was stupid good. It was an ample amount of short rib meat perfectly season and tender. Topped with a delightful mix of fresh sliced plum, amazing sweet tangy sauce, and thin slices radish for a little crunch. I'm currently in line to try their mahi mahi because I have to see what other awesomeness they offer!

Yelp
Elgin has a thing once a month called Sip, Shop, and Stroll where all of the stores stay open later and serve snacks and wine or beer. It's a great way to see some of the local stores that I may not have visited otherwise. This last time one of the stores had Chris and his truck outside so we decided to try a taco. Roomie ordered a chicken taco but requested a fried avocado on top. Brilliant! It was sooooo good. I loved the pickled veggies on top. While we sat there we starting chatting with Chris who was pleasant and funny (ask him about being on "Chopped"). Yes I only tried the one taco but that fried avocado was amazing and Chris was really great to talk to. Give them a try!

Yelp
Chris is amazing! We hired UCSF for the bar and dinner at our wedding and we loved it. The food was great and the drinks too. Chris was very friendly and worked with us patiently to make sure we got what we wanted sticking to our budget. I strongly recommend them for weddings or and kind of event that needs catering and bar services. The bartenders were also awesome, they were very nice and fast.

Yelp
Chris and his amazing team catered our wedding in Dripping Springs, TX. Not only were they so extremely helpful, creative, and flexible to meet our needs, the food was OUTSTANDING. Our guests could not get enough! All of their food is such an amazing spin on the classics we all know and love. I can't wait for more Urban Cowboy cooking in my future! My mouth is watering just thinking about it...

Yelp
I wish there were 6 stars to give Chris and team! I found Urban Cowboy when I hosted an important event and needed someone who really "got it" regarding the theme and reason for the party, could run with my limited information and short timeline, and who could put out an awesome event leaving me free to be with guests instead of in the kitchen. Chris and team totally delivered! Email communication was terrific, and I felt very comfortable throughout the entire process. Chris provided the cost upfront so that there weren't any last minute surprises. The team showed up on time, were all very kind, and worked efficiently to put out an amazing spread. The website has great suggestions, but don't feel limited to that - Chris will work with you to customize the food to your needs. And, one of the best parts is that they totally clean up before leaving! What a relief :-) Ooh - one more really fun tidbit is that Chris has been a competitor on the Food Network's "Chopped". How cool is that? Bottom line - you will not be sorry going with Urban Cowboy for your catering needs. I can't wait to host another event so that I can use them again.

Yelp
I hired Chris and his team for a Grand Opening event and they were fantastic to work with! He was very clear about his availability and pricing and was flexible and easy-going on meeting our needs. When he arrived at our location, he was very prompt on getting ready and served up AMAZING food! I tried the fried avocado taco and I had never had anything like it! I was so sad that we ran out of food and I couldn't try more, but I know our guests loved it. Thanks Chris and Urban Cowboy for meeting and exceeding our expectations!

Yelp
Urban Cowboy catered our wedding and they were fantastic. People loved the food so much they were taking multiple entrees and we almost ran out of food! Chris was so kind and courteous throughout the whole process even with multiple guest count and menu changes. They even do a kids table that is great if you have kids at your event. The food is a perfect mix of Texas and a little bit of style. The presentation was fantastic with diverse vegetables, but we were also still able to work in things like bacon and brisket.

Yelp
So happy Bastrop finally has a great place to eat! Burgers are amazing, staff is friendly and knowledgeable.Outside seating is cool, will check out the inside dining area next time. If you are looking for upscale food quality without the snotty Austin attitude, this is the place.

Yelp
Chris was amazing! The food came out so good for our wedding this past week, on June 24th, 2016, at Cedar Bend Events, outside of Austin. We had a wonderful menu of veggie ceviche & chicken/brie/endive cups, fantastic kale salad, sriracha & honey fried chicken paired with cilantro rice, and beef brisket with beer mac'n cheese, and a few stuffed avocados for my vegan/veggie family members. Chris was great to work with, and easily made the accommodations I requested for my veggie family members. We live in California, and we chose Urban Cowboy without trying it, because the reviews were so good. We were able to visit in March and try the food and we were blown away! I'm so glad we made the decision to go with Chris. We had no issues, and all our guests raved about the food!.

Yelp
The Urban Cowboy Food Truck was amazing. We had them serve our rehearsal dinner and everything was spot. They served appetizers and four tacos which were a hit. The braised short rib were the most popular but the all the food was gone at the end of the evening. Chris was professional and on time and I we can't fully express how awesome the experience was.
