Urban Kayaks on the Lakefront

I would highly recommend Urban Kayaks to anyone that wants a scenic kayaking experience along the Chicago lake front. Frank and LJ helped us out and their customer service is truthfully top. They make the experience super fun and chill and take the time to give you a brief but effective/informative kayaking tutorial before you start. I've kayaked many times before but I am far from a pro or an expert, so the tutorial was very welcomed and it was thorough and one that helped make the kayaking experience better! I HIGHLY recommend Urban Kayaks Lakefront and will definitely be kayaking with them again the next time that I kayak in Chicago!

Last summer, I was strolling along the riverwalk and saw the sign for Urban Kayaks. They mentioned another location, next to the lake, so I went to check it out and fell in love. I vowed to return this summer and was so stoked I bought a $200 summer pass (good from June to October) even before Mayor Lightfoot opened up the lakefront. I have already visited Monroe Harbor three times in the last 30 days and absolutely love the Urban Kayak operation. Everyone is friendly and so professional. First, the kayaks are new and in excellent shape; makes you realize how pathetic the selection can be with other kayak rentals. Second, the staff are an enthusiastic and knowledgeable bunch who make sure everything is in working order before letting anyone head out on their own. Third, the Chicago views are spectacular and even when it's a hot day, it just feels great to be on the water. Fourth, they are less than a quarter mile from the Millennium Park Garage (check out ParkWhiz for super cheap parking). This summer pass has been one of the best investments I've ever made for my mental and physical health and I'm going to kayak all summer!

Paddleboarding with a Urban Kayaks has saved our sanity during the pandemic and the summer heat! There is nothing better than being in the cool waters of Lake Michigan paddling along with friends and family or relaxing on your board while enjoying the magnificent Chicago Skyline or Museum Campus at Monroe Harbor. Get a season pass - it's totally worth it!! Urban Kayaks is the best!!!

Although almost all the staff were welcoming and helpful, one employee kind of ruined the experience (Bree). She was unnecessarily rude and made the experience much more difficult. Not only was she rude to me, but to everyone in my group about the smallest things like asking where to leave our things while we were out on the water. Will not be coming back here. :(

Great service, had a wonderful time and the kayaks were in perfect condition. Everyone was wearing a mask so I felt very comfortable. It was great to enjoy a summer activity, even in this weird COVID time.

While every single other staff member we worked with was very kind and made us feel very welcome, the first staff we were greeted by was beyond rude (Brie). She made us feel extremely uncomfortable and just had rude remark after rude remark. We were really shocked that someone could actually talk to a customer the way she did. Definitely tainted the experience a bit.

Friendly staff, fun experience, they took the time to clean all the equipment. We would definitely go back. Highly recommend!

This company didn't inform us the paddle boarding was canceled till we showed up. Unapologetic and extremely rude on the phone. Hung up on us. Even though we provided email and phone number they did not inform us it was canceled it. Parking was not refunded either. They said they decided it the morning of and our reservation was at 1pm.
