Urban Matter is THE place, whether you're looking for something for yourself or a gift! They have a wide selection of items for any taste and occasion. Such a great store to explore and a fantastic local business to support! As a vendor, I’ve had an awesome experience working with their team—they’re so friendly and easy to collaborate with. Look no further -- highly recommend!

Google
What a beautiful shop! They have an abundance of unique and interesting options. If you're looking for a more personal gift idea or just to treat yourself, I highly recommend a visit. Chris was exceptionally friendly and helpful. I will be back!

Google
Very cool shop with lots of options for different types of gifts. I ended up getting something for myself, too! Staff was kind and engaging, and the space is open and bright. Will definitely be back!

Google
By far one of my favorite local businesses for gift items. So many unique things from cool books, socks, cards, candles, soaps, furniture and more and more. Service is always warm, welcoming & informative. Prices are reasonable and if your looking for awesome finds for the four-legged family members we love sooooo much just head on over 2 (yes, two) doors and you'll enter an expanded space full of fun things for pets, children and friends who love jewelry, hats, scarfs and you guessed it....more and more and more. My favorite items are socks with obscenity, Nag Champa soap and celebrity print by sticker book featuring greats such as Prince, Nina Simone, Beyoncé and more and more and more.

I am so in love with this store. Only the fact that I had my hands full with bags from Jay International kept me from breaking the bank once again. Lots of sassy gifts, conversation pieces for the home, meaningful collectibles, etc. I always see items I would have never thought of--this time, a personal popcorn popper for the microwave, so you never have to buy microwave popcorn bags again. The staff is friendly but they don't bother you, only stepping in if you have questions.

A great store for exploring! Jewelry, incense, socks, journals, everything a girl could want. Great place to pick up a gift for someone special.

Yelp
Urban Matter is a Tower Grove treasure trove. Located in the heart of the South Grand shopping and dining district, Urban Matter is a local, women-owned small business with something special for everyone who visits! Ten pictures are far too few to showcase this shop's beautifully curated collection, but these are a handful of our favorites. My husband and I were especially drawn to the honey, tea, fruit spreads, seasonings, and kitchenware; we are foodies after all. Bundle up to support Urban Matter this week, and be sure to give yourself plenty of time to browse. There's a lot to shop!

Yelp
A store full of eclectic treasures. A good mix of locally based products and quality goods. A very well organized store and easy to browse. Whether treating yourself or shopping for that perfect gift for a loved one, it's easy to find so many wonderful things.

Yelp
The owner calls her customers "assholes" if they complain regarding defective products. They take joy in selling defective products, keeping people's hard earned money, refusing to refund or exchange, and don't care if their products work or not. I am having to hold a protest outside their store and sue in small claims court because they are so horrible, greedy, evil, rude, and offensive. Update: After several hours of protesting, the owner Mary called me a psychopath and called the police, who confirmed I have the right to protest. Mary finally apologized for calling me an asshole and exchanged the defective candle, which would not burn and smelled like cardboard. At first, they insisted I agree to not post on social media regarding the incident, but I refused and kept protesting. Finally they agreed to exchange for another candle and agreed that I did not have to waive my rights to Free Speech.

Yelp
This place is SO CUTE. We were eating brunch across the street and spotted it so of course had to check it out. They have such a fun, welcoming, and clean aesthetic. We love the local feel of a lot of their goods. They had an amazing, progressive kids section in the back that we were obsessed with. They have all kinds of goods - fresh perfumes and colognes, jewelry, incense, cooking tools, cocktail accessories, glass, fun stickers. It was so hard leaving there without spending a ton of money. It's a great spot to buy gifts for people. We were in there for at least 20 minutes just looking at everything. Such a cool place and we'll definitely be back.

Yelp
I spent an afternoon exploring South Grand and I ended up stopping in. The team members were personable and friendly. They explained the store and sent me off to explore. There are all kinds of treats and treasures. Definitely a place for gift buying for friends and loved ones. The only downside is that I want to keep everything for myself!!

Yelp
Super cool store with lots of awesome local goods! The staff is always fantastic. They're highly knowledgeable, always willing to help if needed! Definitely will be back again

Yelp
Amber was amazing. I came in from out of town needing emergency souvenirs for our reception, and she was incredibly helpful. Not only was she patient, but she also took the time to explain the different products available, all while being kind, friendly, and supportive.

Yelp
It was a Grand Day on South Grand Blvd today, as Urban Matter held its Grand Opening for their new location. I was a frequent shopper at the original location and I plan to continue at this spacious new one. One of my favorite cousins birthday is next week so I was in need of her gift. Last year, I got her a beautiful blue leather purse from UM. So since that gift was such a hit, I came back for this year. I knew I couldn't repeat the same theme, even though they once again had an amazing selection. As I browsed their new layout, I found a perfect gift. Well, actually it was a gift bag. It was a canvas and leather wine gift bag. My cousin loves wine, so this was perfect. I grabbed the bag, found some cocktail napkins and a notepad for making a Market List. Now all I need is a bottle of wine. When I gift shop, I usually find something for myself, too. Today, I found a Travel Straw. I'm anti plastic straw, so this collapsable/adjustable stainless steel straw in a plastic case. This is awesome, I can be environmentally friendly and still enjoy my drinks with a straw. The staff at UM is always top-notch. Friendly and professional is the way they do business and I like it. Will I return? - They're the best place for gifts. When: July 20, 2019 Why: Grand Opening and need of gift.

Yelp
I'm a former St. Louisan and wanted to buy a gift when visiting, so I thought I'd try Urban Matter (past experience meant I knew this neighborhood would have lots of eclectic shops). Urban Matter is actually two shops a few doors apart. I was able to find several unique items made in St. Louis - including a small ceramic tray depicting Tower Grove Park - and some wonderful original jewelry (which my girlfriend wore to dinner last night). There were tons of other great items to choose from. Highly recommended!

Yelp
What a fun place to shop for unique gifts! I already have several upcoming events in mind in order to come back here! I love they seem to have dozen upon dozens of local artists - no mass-produced junk... I find myself often enjoying an artist's work and then waiting around for an event where they are doing a pop-up at a local festival or something of the like... Urban Matter likely has it! They have custom jewelry, St. Louis-related gifts for those who want to give an STL gift to someone who doesn't live here anymore and is homesick or simply just for yourself. Ummm, they have 4 HANDS BREWERY SOCKS... Local, organic/soy/etc candles. Pottery. Jewelry. Glasswork. Cards and stationery (look at my photos to see some of the hilarious stuff I am talking about)... I can't even begin to list off all of the neat and unique items that reside herein - I just know that I cannot wait to go back when I can splurge a little bit on gifts because there is an occasion to do so.

Yelp
Urban Matter is a super fun, beautifully curated shop full of gifts, art, furniture, jewelry, home goods, etc. I always try to seek out stores like this in cities that I visit ahead of time, but fortunately my friends and I stumbled upon this place after getting dinner nearby. We stopped in right before they closed and I felt bad that we stayed after they were supposed to close - but we just kept finding more and more great stuff to look at! The women working were gracious and very polite, even though I felt bad we were still loitering after hours. I loved the kids items and cookbook selection the most, but honestly I could have spent an hour looking at everything! The space is pretty large for this type of shop which was nice and I didn't feel crowded or worried I'd bump into something and break it! I wish I could have bought all the things but I found a really beautiful pair of dainty earrings as a special souvenir. The surrounding neighborhood is really cute and there are several other shops and quite a few restaurants. I wish we could have browsed longer. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in town!

Yelp
Very hipster but REALLY cute store! Picked up a national park poster and animal cut posters for under $10. Great kids toys and apparel, house goods, jewelry and even furniture! Really cute store just wish it was easier to shop online since we're only visiting STL for the weekend!

Yelp
I love shopping here. It's got such a great variety of things: home, clothes, smells, children, etc. it's a bit confusing because there are two locations, but they are just a few doors down from each other. I love the children's section. It's a little pricey (compared to like a target) but it's quality items and actually affordable for shopping local. Love it! When we were last here, we bought cologne! Smells fantastic.

Yelp
Local favorite, always love it! Unique products, local artists, great gifts, jewelry, candles, decor....you name it.

Yelp
I was in town looking for a gift for my friend and I stop in this store. I was looking at some earrings and I asked how much for them. The person behind the counter look bother that I asked how much the earrings was with a deep sigh. After that, it made me feel very uncomfortable to support a business like this. Maybe that person had a bad day or something but don't act like you want to be there.

Yelp
Urban Matter brings a lovely touch to the Saint Louis boutique scene. It's an amazing place for curated and novelty items for your home or lifestyle. Better yet? They have a lush backyard garden that doubles as an chic event space, where they host a variety of different events throughout the spring, summer, and fall. My wife and I love it so much, we got married there! Mary and Amy (the shop owners) and their team are so incredibly talented, knowledgable, and helpful. They care a ton about every customer's experience and are so friendly. Mary is well connected within Saint Louis' local community and if she doesn't have what you're looking for, she will point you to other local artisans, florists, and makers who do amazing work. From unique cards for any occasion, to cologne, jewelry, and cocktail mixers- this place has anything you might need. Urban Matter is my go to when I want to surprise my wife or a friend with a fun and meaningful gift. They love their neighborhood and bring so much good to our community. Keep it up, ladies- you're doing awesome things for small businesses around Missouri and beyond!

Yelp
Love everything in this shop. Came here looking for a Christmas gift and left with more things for myself. This shop is so cute and has really cute unique things. Also I talked to the owner and she said that they have mostly all local items but have branched out and gotten items from other independent artists, which I love. Make sure you stop at both shops in Tower Grove they are just down the street from each other. If you are looking for cute things and unique local items come to this shop for sure!

Yelp
Urban Matter is a cool variety shop filled with a plethora of interesting products that make perfect gifts or unique decor for ones home. They recently moved to a more spacious location in a prime spot on South Grand. The grand opening took place last Saturday and the store was buzzing with customers. I picked up a couple gifts including a bar of handcrafted soap and a beard cream. On a previous visit to their old location, I bought a scented candle that I love and a cute little cactus and succulent table book. Every time I visit, I've found the coolest things. I'll probably stop in more often with this convenient location next to so many great dining options along Grand. 5 stars for a locally owned shop with a super friendly staff that brings even more flair to the neighborhood!

Yelp
You've gotta get in here, literally! They've relocating to S Grand (tear). This is the perfect sized gift shop that has something for everyone. Right now there's a 30-50% off sale. The owners are so friendly, and they have an amazing space out in back for private events. I came by to pick up father's day gifts(specialized bitters and a locally made card). They have jewelry, clothing, kitchen wares, food items/ mixers, in various styles and mediums and price ranges.

Yelp
Urban Matter is a wonderful place to find unique, handmade gifts. Every product has a story behind it and the treasures there never end. I would recommend this shop for anyone who is a fan of shopping local. You can find things like jewelry, stationery, clothing, and more. The store is located on Grand Ave. which makes it perfect for a walk around the neighborhood.

Yelp
I was taking a weird route from SoCo to the city and stumbled across Urban Matter. Urban Matter has: Candles StL stuff Kitchen stuff Jewelry Greeting cards Coasters Cologne Hats Journals Lots more And all of it is made in MO or not too far from MO. Much is made of special stones and pretty wood that I've never heard of. Most of it was a little too pricey for me to purchase for myself on a whim, but lots and lots of great gift potential there. They were having some kind of a workshop in the back -- looked like wreath-making -- and so there was spiked cider, cheese and crackers, and little-chocolate covered cookies to munch on. The employees were friendly and helpful but didn't pressure or pester us. I only bought two cards, but my friends bought earrings ($8!), cologne, and a few other things. Cool place. Definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
Urban Matter has a wonderful selection of artisan goods, gifts, home items, and much more. This beautiful store is located in a historic building on Virginia Avenue. The owners were friendly and had some great tips for other local businesses to check out. We loved the wooden birds and other hand-made wooden items. There are so many wonderful items. We found it through Yelp and fully concur with the five-star rating.

Yelp
I would have never found this gem of a store if not having been invited to special event. I love the greeting cards selection- snarky or sentimental take your pick. Unusual jewelry pieces too. Prices are a little on high side but the quality is there.

Yelp
Such cute stuff! Great for gift for others and yourself! I try to get here whenever I'm visiting St. Louis. Price points are all over the place so you can buy something really nice, handmade fancy pants and also less expensive cute, quirky items all in one store. I love their greeting card selection. Such a pretty store.

Yelp
OMG this place is so addicting. The purses! The jewelry! The kiddo gifts! The homeware! Take all my money!! Anytime I need a gift, I'm sure to find something special here. Who am I kidding?! I come here for myself mostly.

Yelp
Beautifully curated store with lovely owners and an amazing back garden! Hand crafted jewelry, ceramics, textiles, and other cool gifts.

Yelp
Stared at the screen for five minutes trying to find a way to describe the customer service at Urban Matter and couldn't. Just started typing. They are the most convenient business ever. The "window shopping" option is the same as storeroom browsing. Emailed with items we were hoping purchase in the morning, received an invoice before lunch, the items were in hand before 2pm same day. Eloquent and appealing packaging made it so we didn't even have to wrap these gifts. Love you, Urban Matter.

Yelp
It's hard to put a label on this place as they have a pretty random selection of items from jewelry to beard oil to spices. Perfect place to pick up a locally made unique gift for that person you just don't know what to get. They carry gifts for him as well as for her. Hilarious greeting cards, tons of candles, elegant scarves, cute kitchenware. Also, seasonal and holiday things were available when I visited in December. Free spiced and spiked apple cider was available along with fancy cheeses and crackers. The staff was super nice and helpful. You can tell they are proud of their inventory. They carry several items that I've only seen at local art shows. I picked a simple pair of earrings that were made from stained glass windows to give as a gift. These were only $8.00, but most of the jewelry is much much more expensive as they are one of a kind. A wreath making class was happening out back! Overall a great little shop to get something different for those people in your life who are a little different themselves!

Yelp
I was really impressed with this store's merchandise mix and presentation. It is very cool and inventory is beautifully curated. Great style and fun to shop!

Yelp
Was in town for a weekend visit with the family and always on the prowl for unique gift shops, I found this gem of a store after looking all over online and was not disappointed. Spent 1.5 hrs there and kept finding new items tucked in every corner. They sell jewelry, items for the home, stationary, beauty, leather goods, lighting, clothing and more. Much of the store is sourced from local makers. Beautifully styled throughout. Owner was so helpful and gave me several tips on other things to do with my family and places to eat while in town. Will definitely be a place I stop by if I ever come back to St. Louis in the future.

Yelp
I, too, stumbled across Urban Matter by accident, and I am so glad I did. It instantly became m favorite little shop. Mary and Amy were delightful to talk with, the space is wonderfully inviting, and I adore that 70% of their merchandise is local! I can't wait to take my friends there so they can love it as much as I do.
