On the Grid : Urban Outfitters

"Lured inside by the type on the historic marquee and mesmerized by the high open wood-truss ceiling populated with theater lighting, this is the first time we find it difficult to shop in an Urban Outfitters. City revitalization attracted Urban Outfitters to rehab the 10,000 square foot Rialto Theatre, originally built in 1917. The brick wall in the back of the store is painted white and plays movies during store hours in tribute to the theater theme. The constantly changing marquee messages are awesome." - TypeEd

UO has lots of new fashion trends always. The downtown broadway store was transformed from a 1920-30’s classic theater, so looked retro and spacious atmosphere. Good quality, trendy clothings and accessories. However more expensive than other street wear stores like Tillys, PacSun, Zumiez. I recommend if your budget is enough. Parking is not easy. Street parking, or public parking $20~40/day- expensive- in downtown.

This is my go-to UO for years!!! They always have a good variety of styles and let me just say, I’ve found some of my favorite pieces on the sale rack! Staff is friendly and attentive, fitting rooms are well lit and clean.

Best Urban Outfitters in LA, for the Vibe. The energy is great, music is fly, service is well done. Not a lot to choose from for men’s department but I still give ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I always get profiled when I shop here ☹️🧐 gold tier member of their loyalty program for the past 6 yrs , my fav store since I was a teen, I’m in my fourties’, I live in the neighborhood so I take a walk at the end of the day to relax and I’ll always do a lap and just see what’s new and to see the product in person as I shop the app all the time. lately I get followed (I’ve lived here for 4 years and have done this all four years) idk what changed now, but I feel uncomfortable when I shop now (so ironic because I am a regional visual merchandiser for a luxury brand and oversee the entire Westcoast region and I oversee 165 points of sale so I am a trusted professional and I travel weekly for work so if there is a urban in HI, MT,ID, MN, AZ,CA,OR,WA, NV ,AK, I’ve been there) it doesn’t feel good and makes me feel small. Also, because I work in retail and understand kpi’s I always buy something small so I don’t mess up their conversion ….. I’m going to take a break after my experience just now, I went to buy two more pouches that I had previously bought for a work trip I have tomorrow/ next day and I was followed the entire time and I watched the security guard wave down staff to follow another girl. We were both young looking black women .I get that it is downtown, but it’s super easy to differentiate between riff raff and paying customers, especially if it is a repeat customer that has been a loyal patron for decades.

Purchased a few outfits, and I love the quality! The staff helped me find the right sizes, and the prices were reasonable. Didn’t know they had a shop on the DitchIt app—will browse there next time!

The place is amazing, clothing is super great! Best customer service by employees and everything couldn’t be better at this location.

Yelp
Shout out to associate who found a product I was looking for and put it on hold for me, saved me a lot of time. This location was very clean and fully stocked. Street parking only is the only downside. Great service.
google avatar

Shai R.

Yelp
I absolutely love how unique this store is. They have all the cool nostalgia clothing that one could dream of. A while back, I found a really cute knitted top that was one of a kind. I got a lot of compliments on that top. The store is always so clean and neat. You will not find clothes lying around everywhere in this store. Everything is hung back up if it's out of place. I really haven't had a whole lot of interaction with the staff here. They seem to be very focused on what they're doing. They also have a security person up front if you need assistance. This store have shirts, pants, records, perfumes, earrings, candles, books, stickers and so much more. You will not go wrong by shopping here. It's like a one stop shop. If you like dressing different than everyone else or if you want some cool clothing, check out this location.
google avatar

Eli L.

Yelp
If you need something quick to wear this place is always a good spot to check out. It's smaller than others I have visited but still has a bunch of stuff to choose from.
google avatar

Crystal G.

Yelp
My friend might be obsessed with Urban outfitters. On this day we went in for a bra. she's definitely much younger than I am .It's so weird going into the store and seeing all the stuff that I used to wear when I was younger. It feels very twilight zone. Like somehow I just jumped out of the DeLorean kind of vibe. It's funny having somebody see with fresh eyes the outfits that i used to wear. Well I have the experience to let her know how that dress is gonna look . Trust me it's going to look adorable with a baby T-shirt underneath it ! I might not fit in that dress anymore but I can definitely show you how to style it. See 45 and still cool. This urban outfitters is amazing I'm absolutely obsessed with the signage outsideI . The employees were super helpful. I walked out of there with a refillable perfume bottle . One of my favorite perfumes from Paris had fallen on the floor and the pump got smashed. If I flip the bottle upside down all my expensive perfume just pours out of it. I was so happy to come home and to save my perfume with this Refillable bottle. Urban outfitters always has so many cool products.

Yelp
I tend to have a love hate relationship with urban outfitters. Love the curation but hate the prices! However, I never leave here empty handed. This location has an extremely friendly staff -- better than any other Urban location I've shopped across the country. They even have a friendly security guard at the front who makes me feel safe but doesn't treat me like a criminal lol.
google avatar

Megan R.

Yelp
Terrible customer service. Came in 30 mins before closing. There were at least 4 team members floating around the floor touching up the displays. Walked by every single one of them and not a single one looked up to greet me and my friend let alone ask if we needed help. I knew what I came there for and saw it. With the negative atmosphere the employees were giving off I decided that I would rather give my money to a UO that didn't make me feel like I shouldn't be there.
google avatar

Cat Zaimi, M A.

Yelp
My least favorite UO of all time! Tiny selection. Minuscule sale section. Horrifying styles. Overall, just sad.
google avatar

Luna M.

Yelp
I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews at this UO because every sales associate I came across here was very friendly and helpful, including the girl helping me over the phone. And the girl at the register was super-patient! TIP: I found some excellent sales upstairs.
google avatar

Peichi K.

Yelp
The girls here are really helpful and patient. I bought fragrances here, and unfortunately the bag broke apart the minute I walked out the store. They help me out with returning and repacking. Thumbs up
google avatar

Nathalie D.

Yelp
Discovered this UO on accident. I was walking from getting my eyebrows done and noticed the location. They have a very friendly staff who greet you as soon as you walk in and ask if you need any help. The location was not busy at all - there was only one other person in the store when I entered. They have a good selection of both women and men clothes. What I enjoyed the most was their selection of vinyls! They had a lot of Limited Edition vinyls I haven't seen at any other UO. I will definitely be returning to this store.

TrojanGal M.

Yelp
I don't know why this place has terrible reviews. I've walked in 15 minutes before they closed and the women at the register helped me order things online as quickly as possible. I felted rushed, but she was never rude. Thank you to her! Today, Brittany helped me out with saving an item for me that might sell out fast! So thankful for her and her patience when I was deciding over black-washed Levi jeans or the distressed Levi jeans (btw, I went with the black-washed, haha..) I give this place 5 stars because they adhere to the codes of cleanliness during this COVID crisis and I love two blocks away. I'm sure they all know me by now. - Scooter girl
google avatar

Chloe P.

Yelp
It's about 7:41 and the employees want to go home. There's still customers in the store and they're asking me if I know who works here. It's really sad then you have this one girl standing there watching the customers look confused and she doesn't come help. This is really really bad customer service.

Alex V.

Yelp
No way these guys get 5 star rating . Anyone praising this company is clearly invested in them not a customer. After weeks for waiting for my merchandise., a ridiculous amount of time ., they shipped the wrong item. Horrible! Zero ! Rating if it was option
google avatar

Tony S.

Yelp
Terrible customer service at this weak ass store, they kicked me out at 7:58 pm because they closed in 2 minutes, after I drove over 40 minutes to get there before they closed lol. Thanks for a memorable experience. Bruh dead ass told me to come back on another day when I have more time . I'd give yall zero stars if I could

Yelp
I didn't know that there was an Urban DTLA. I'm never really down here but I guess it's been here for a couple years. They don't have their own parking, but neither does anyone else out here. They took over an old movie theater which makes this Urban unique. They play videos on a white brick wall to give it that theater feel. They definitely have a smaller selection that I'm used to seeing at other Urbans, but that doesn't stop the staff from trying to get what you're looking for sent to you. That seemed to be their "go to" if I couldn't find something I wanted. The staff is very friendly and attentive. They started fitting rooms for my friend and checked up on us a number of times throughout the floor, which is something we're not used to. I ended up buying a few cute numbers. Definitely the best urban staff I have ever encountered. Also I saw one of their managers stop of a shoplifter and get the items back. He confronted this guy as he tried to push the door open. I didn't even know that the guy stole anything. He didn't set off the alarm. It was pretty scary, but the manager scared the shoplifter and the thief dropped everything and ran. The manager had tattoos, a cut off shirt, and looks pretty intimidating if you got on his bad side. Lol. But he was nothing but polite and helpful with my friends and I. He also kicked out a homeless man that was bothering everyone in the store. That's downtown for you.

Yelp
pros: friendly fun staff Unique collection of clothes Cool discounts for Urban On members Eco friendly (email receipts!) Cons: No parking No public bathroom I'm a huge online shopper and I'm always looking for ways to save money, so I found out that you could order anything from https://www.urbanoutfitters.com in-store and they will waive the shipping!!!!!!! I also got 25% off coupon for my birthday because I was a Urban On member. The deals keep getting better and better. They also have a nice collection of Tony Moly face mask sheets and Mario Badescu skin care products. Helpful tip: always get your receipts emailed to you, if you ever need to return anything they could always look it up via email. No more stress with trying to hold on to a piece of paper and its eco friendly! It's not much but a little goes a long way.
google avatar

Yelp
Worst.UrbanOutfitters.Ever. Been here a few times and only ever bought something out if desperation - the only staff member who actually pays any attention is the door greeter and that's it! Good luck if you want assistance with sizes and other choices available coz you'll have to walk back to the entrance, where the registers are, to get any attention. Everytime I've been here a member of staff has walked right past me, when I had an obvious puzzled or quizzical look on my face and was even ignored when I called out for help! Do yourself a favour and hit-up any other UO location, it's worth it. Fuck the DTLA Broadway one. Zero stars if I could.

Yelp
I love how they have re-purposed the Rialto Theatre into an Urban Outfitters. When I went, there was nothing on sale. Considering the neighborhood surrounding the store, it is significantly pricer than the stores adjacent to it, like Ross. It only makes sense to stop into this store if you lived or were around this neighborhood. However, it is not worth making a special trip just to come here due to the hassles of DTLA parking. There are other locations in LA that are more car friendly. The clothes at this store appear to be trending and new. However, you are definitely paying for it. Think of it as an admission fee to visit the Rialto.

Yelp
Would just like to thank Serena today for her awesomeness, kindness, and great spirit during the dressing room super rush of people today.

Yelp
Wow.... you will go tone deaf after being in this store after 15 minutes or so. Guess it's better than going deaf from the whizzing of delivery trucks from the outside. Seems like a slimmed down version of Urban Outfitters compared to other locations. Their sales section was the size of my walk in closet at home, so not sure if that's what their aiming for or they don't get that much inventory. I walked here alone during my lunchtime during broad day light. I don't suggest anyone, male or female, to be walking here alone...especially at night. Revitalizing will take a while here, so the stench, piss, poop and bums are still abound near this area. Be forewarned.
google avatar

Kelly G.

Yelp
Didn't like it walked in with my mom and the person in the front didn't even say "hi" or "welcome" she just stared at us and kept folding cloths it was just a bitt awkward and just lonely and quiet i don't really know if i will ever go back in there i rather order online.
google avatar

Royal B.

Yelp
Customer service is horrible. Guy answered phone just saying hello, and had no idea of item I wanted was in stock and didn't want to go look, instead he wanted me to come in and check.
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
I came in here looking for shoes but was pretty disappointed. Not as much selection in clothing, especially shoes, here. The only shoes they had were on a tiny stand, none were out under the mannequins either. Felt a lot smaller but at least it was organized and tidy. Luckily I didn't have to deal with parking but I couldn't imagine finding a parking spot just for this location.
google avatar

Angela V.

Yelp
First of all I would like to say that I love love love that they kept the Rialto sign!!! It's what separates this Urban from all the other ones. I love the store but then again I love pretty much any Urban. I love that I can shop on my lunch or even after work & I've never seen the place ridiculously packed which is amazing! The staff is great... One more thing... when I was getting ready to try stuff on I noticed they had those fitting rooms that are single stalls covered with just a drape as a door. I really hate those types of fitting rooms just because it's very easy to see through the sides.. Little did I know they magnets on the side so it's impossible for peeping toms to peep! Ohhh and they have a $3 photo booth!!! Amazing!!!
google avatar

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
Meh. This Urban is okay... I only come here when I have returns because it's the closest one near me but it's still a hassle. No parking---you have to find it on the street which is pretty difficult. Limited sale---they used to not even have a sale section, but now there's a small one. Gross area---past Grand, things start to get sketchy. Don't come here alone at night.
google avatar

Lauren G.

Yelp
I really like Urban Outfitters and all, but not this one. First of all, they close early, but I won't hold that against them since the crackheads and street people make it hard for businesses to stay open late at night. Ok, I'll still take off a star for that because no matter what the reason is, I don't like it. One really good thing I witnessed that happened when they had already closed (because I was looking at some pink record player through the window just because it was pink) was a woman inside who was closing let in a couple after hours because they were out of breath and had obviously ran to get there in time. They said they knew exactly what they wanted and she was REALLY nice to have allowed them inside to get whatever it is they needed after she had closed the register already. I thought that was going above and beyond for their customers, but the rest of the staff may not have as big of a heart as she does. I take off the rest of the stars because they have a horrible selection of stuff, by far the worst of all locations in LA, and leave only two stars because it's here at all and because of that woman who let the couple in after hours.

Jane G.

Yelp
Good repurposing of the Rialto Theater in DTLA. Although I wish they would have kept the Rialto as a theatre, perhaps this is the lesser of two evils - this or tearing it down and lost forever. So, I must say, with mixed emotion that I am a fan of this space. Also, the fact that it was Urban Outfitters means that officially, DTLA is hipster.
google avatar

Justin Y.

Yelp
Stopped by here a few days ago in between barhopping. For first impressions, I must say that it is one of the most random, yet awesome places to have an Urban Outfitters. The only problem is the lack of selection, in my opinion, for men's clothing compared to other stores such as the Pasadena location. The "funny books" section was also a little lacking. I must say, though, that this is an incredibly well-staffed store. There were like 4-5 employees on a Tuesday night even though there were hardly any customers in the store. I'm sure anyone who's ever worked in a pharmacy would comment on this "overstaffing" phenomenon (lol).
google avatar

Nikki O.

Yelp
My God this place is so expensive for very basic clothes. I imagine the rent is high, but still. They are also stocked for smaller women, definitely not for the curvy types like myself. And the vinyl records are so expensive, its shocking. Beautiful store in an old theatre, but just way too expensive.

Callan G.

Yelp
Came here in need of a few items that ended up being sold out. Millie was extremely accommodating and helped ensure I got everything I needed within the time I needed them. She went above and beyond with her assistance, not to mention she was extremely patient throughout. Thank you Millie!
google avatar

Katrina P.

Yelp
Well known clothing store that continues to curate fashion forward pieces for men and women, check out the sale section for a bargain. Sizes can be a bit weird so I advise trying things on. Great place to buy gifts for people of all ages. Books and record players are a favourite of mine.
google avatar

Priscilla F.

Yelp
I LOVE THIS URBAN !!! Super clean and doesn't feel like there's a lot of clutter. The staff is very helpful also
google avatar

Jen K.

Yelp
PRAISE THE LORD WE HAVE AN URBAN IN DOWNTOWN!! My purchases have declined from UO over the years-- perhaps I'm getting too old to pull off crop tops and short shorts but I'm so happy we have another retail shop in the neighborhood. The store is beautiful however I thought the inventory was on the lighter side and didn't see a sale section. They did have a good selection of apartment stuff: lots of rugs and decorative knick knacks. Dressing rooms are located on the second floor. Happy Shopping! First came Umami, then Urban Outfitters and now a new addition of the Ace Hotel. Broadway is shaping up pretty well =) --- Parking: Meter spots are slim pickin' on Broadway. I found a meter on 7th so you will need to walk a block or two.

Ash I.

Yelp
I never reviews on Yelp, but I had such a great experience at this Urban Outfitters I had to write one! I came here after work looking for a dress for a wedding I'm attending next weekend. The staff helped me choose some dresses that would suit the occasion, and I ultimately fell in love with a dress but they didn't have my size. The associates were able to order it in the correct size and ship it to my home for free! This Urban has a more laid-back feel than the other locations I've been to, so I would recommend going here if you want extra help from the staff.

Amelia V.

Yelp
The workers were really helpful and attentive. I saw a dress I liked which unfortunately was not in my size at this store. But an employee helped me find a store that did.
google avatar

Ashley L.

Yelp
This Urban Outfitters, compared to others, was pretty small and didn't have the best clothes. All the clothes were not the cutest that the brand has to offer, and the location is not the best either. There are no other cute stores nearby, and it is hiding behind a cinema sign for some reason. However there was a nice selection of skincare. If I were to describe the store with one word it would be "boring".
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
love their clothes!! they have great skincare and wonderful staff who are very hands on and helpful! only downside is the price, i've only bought one chop thing item from them and it was over $60, though i understand. their clothes are so well made!
google avatar

Nora S.

Yelp
Let me just start by saying that I love this location. I was amazed on the way they converted the whole theater into a nice beautiful beautique. I had a great experience being the first time here, all the sales associates were courteous, friendly and helpful. I didn't feel discriminated or uncomfortable in any way. I strolled and toured the entire store without any harassment from anyone. I smelled their perfumes, candles etc.. . just loved the variation of products, I found everything I was forever looking for!! Their clothing selection was exactly what my taste is, loved it! Parking was really good, no hassle I guess because it was a Sunday, less traffic. Thank you for bringing UO close to our community, this will definitely be my store to shop, no more Santa Monica for me!! just loved it!!
google avatar

S K.

Yelp
Welcome to the neighborhood!!! Ok... Look... I'm not a Urban Outfitters gal. I don't wear headbands or shiny disco pants with moccasins. I will buy the occasional Tshirt maybe a couple of notepads and some socks for The Man, but the fact that such a large retail store took the risk to come downtown, which is still considered a small community, has gained my respect. Walking in, it smells like Urban Outfitters, looks like Urban Outfitters and has all the Urban Outfitters chatskis, but the difference is, this store carries one of a kind, unique, "boutiquey", jewelry that you won't find in any other store. NICE.... Ya, I know... you might find me a lil pretentious but I really don't like the idea of buying things that I know every girl from here to Silver Lake will be wearing. Urban Outfitters actually has quite good taste in picking out the jewelry they sell in their stores, but the idea that my friends' 20 year old sister has the same piece as me, well... makes me a bit embarrassed. I'm too old for that shit. I don't want to be the woman that looks like I'm trying to recapture my 20s. Anyway, I found an amazing turquoise necklace here that I absolutely can not stop gushing about. Now, the cost for such items are in the higher end. Upwards to 300 bucks, but you get what you pay for. The sales peeps are very sweet tho they look like they just got back from Coachella.

Yelp
As an african-american, it gets pretty damn tiring to be treated as a thief instead of an honest paying customer because of the color of my skin. I went in to buy a beautiful shirt i had my eye on. I found the blouse, selected my size, then went behind a dressing mirror which conceals customers from view to look at the colorful Converse that might match my shirt. Promptly, a clerk appears. In an unfriendly voice, "How we doing BACK THERE?" Back there?!?. Fuck him and his overt disrespectful racist loss-prevention skills. If I did not want that blouse so much, i would have left promptly. As it was, i was shocked to be treated that way there. Tired of that shit happening to me...

Yelp
I went today for last minute christmas shopping. First of all my husband is a big guy. He likes to work out. Hes size XL. I noticed there was almost NOTHING on his size. Only S, M and a few L but almost nothing in XL. Only some shirts and some jackets. Same style. I feel as if they dont want big people to wear their clothes. Idk. Its stupid. Ok. So i didnt find no clothes. Also like 3 workers passed by me. They didnt even say hi or anything. The greeter they have at the front. Didnt even greet me. So i assumed if i ask for help to the other workers i would not get any. And if i did. I wasnt going to get any good help. So i just left. Shopping somewhere were you are not welcome....mmmmm....is not satisfying. I usually shop for myself at Urban outfitters(not at this location) but i can go somewhere else instead.

Yelp
Came here the other day when my girlfriend and I were just walking around downtown to acclimate to our new neighborhood. I guess it just opened recently. Somebody mentioned that in passing when I was outiside admiring the cool theater sign that they kept from the days when the store used to be an old theater. This store is way different from the one in White Plains and I like it a lot more. Smaller than many other Urban Outfitters but they still have alot of stuff and they can send you stuff that they don't have. Coolest part was the guitars they have on display. Not sure if they're for sale but I couldn't afford them anyways I'm sure. I was surprised that they don't have a sale section or parking validation/a parking lot. But I guess it makes sense since it's not a UO megastore like santa monica. The service was better than many uo stores that I've been to and maybe the store size helps. Like another Yelper said, everyone does look like they just came back from Coachella but I never felt like they were judging my girlfriend and me for not having "style". There was a really rad guy fixing some shirts who was AWESOME. We had a cool conversation about both of us recently moving out to LA from NY instead of the typical "are you finding everything ok?". He walked me to something I asked about on a mannequin more than one time and had to get a long hook to get my girlfriend something off of a high shelf, but he never seemed like we were hassling him. And I think he was actually a manager because another worker came and told him there was a call for a manager on the phone. He didn't try to force any sales on me and gave some honest opinions, which is awesome for someone whose job is pretty much just to make me want these clothes. There was also a girl with a bunch of symbol tattoos (wiccan? pagan? I can't remember what she told me when I asked) at the front door who was organizing the records and was really friendly. I'm not sure if she was a records manager or something but I asked her if she knew if they had this obscure record by chance and she literally reached into a bin and pulled it out just like that. Then she gave me 4 other recommendations about similar music I hadn't heard of and I went home and listened to them and they were all totally on point. Found out from my girlfriend later that the same girl had also given her some tips about some sort of sage and crystals that UO sells and that it seemed like the girl actually used those products in her own time and wasn't just trying to sell them to make UO more money. So props on cool store design, proximity to good stuff, and nice people. My only other tip: watch out for crazy homeless people outside and go relax with a good burger at Umami after.

Yelp
EDIT: had a problem with a manager, but Urban was quick to fix it, as I knew they would. AJ, one of the store managers, made me change my 1 star review to 5 stars for his excellent service. Thanks Urban.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been to several UO since I've been young, and this one just seems to be at the TOP! The store is beautiful. Not just architecturally nice, but the store itself. I've never seen a UO so organized, clean, and thought out so well. I was having trouble deciding between 2 pairs of pants and a cute girl that worked there helped me out. She literally acted as if she cares which pants I should buy. I ended up buying both and after talking to the cashier, she had said it was the manager! Way to go manager!!! Really do all different aspects of your job. Refreshing to see customer service is still a priority in some businesses.
google avatar

Michele E.

Yelp
It's great to see the Rialto Theatre lit up! The store has great floor design. It's not a hot mess (crossing fingers that it will stay that way). Urban is a great pioneer in bringing other merchants to a neighborhood that is still up and coming and it doesn't hurt to have a store within walking distance of my home that I can buy clothes and gifts at.
google avatar

Mary R.

Yelp
Amazing layout. Well organized and helpful associates. Dressing rooms are upstairs super cool. Will be my go to store :) So happy they opened one here in DTLA. We were in need of clothing stores besides the little boutiques and Express. Bring Back Broadway ^_^

Yelp
I just found out from an employee earlier today that Urban Outfitters is trying to establish a more high end reputation and this store will never have sales and their other stores are phasing out sales as well. Only specific stores like Sherman Oaks & Fresno will exclusively carry sale items. This is ridiculous! Who do they think they are? People shop at Urban Outfitters BECAUSE it is a lower price point and NOT a high end boutique. And even high end boutiques have sales!!! Isabel Marant, Barneys, APC, Ten Over Six, Mohawk General Store...all high end shops...all have sales.

Yelp
I hated the selection here, it seemed smaller than other UO's. The atmosphere was great, though. I also love the theatre marquee outside. Other than that, pretty in line with every other Urban Outfitters!

Yelp
I didn't buy anything at this Urban Outfitters, but the shop is spacious and the attendants very friendly. The clothing selection of this particular location seemed a lot more casual that other Urban Outfitters I've visited, but maybe that's just that I haven't been to one in awhile. I do like the fact that they sell vinyl records and portable record players (reminiscent of my Raggedy Ann and Andy player upon which my sis and I spun our Disney records and Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road). I will certainly stop by again, as I work in the area, the next time I need a casual sweater or knit goods. And I just may grab one of those record players--for old time's sake.
