Love coming here! Parking is on the Main Street and has never been a challenge. The atmosphere is welcoming and staff like Natalie make you feel more welcomed. Natalie made our experience celebrating our friend’s bday even more special.

My daughter has been eyeing this place for sometime. I decided to surprise her on Friday and we both came for lunch. It was a really good experience. They treated us really nice. There was a gentleman that came out with our food and every so often checked on us and how we were doing. Thank you for making our experience that much special. We enjoyed the ambience in doors. The food was so delicious and well put together. Would recommend to family and friends.

Google
The outside vibe was top notch: great music, atmosphere at night and lovely! Natalie was a great server and do a wonderful job. I loved my Mac and cheese and broccoli a lot. The chicken with chimichurri was good, but not amazing. Overall, I really dug it and will come back again!

Google
I just had the most wonderful meal at Urban Plates here in California, and I am officially a huge fan! It's so popular because they perfectly blend the convenience of fast-casual dining with the high quality and deliciousness you’d expect from a nice sit-down restaurant. I absolutely love that their entire philosophy revolves around scratch-made, locally sourced, and wholesome ingredients—you truly feel great about what you’re eating! I was so happy with my order; their famous platter meals are incredible because they let you choose your perfect combination of protein, delicious sides like the roasted vegetables or mashed potatoes, and their wonderful bread. Their large, colorful salads are also a huge draw and are always incredibly fresh and flavorful. The atmosphere is bright, clean, and welcoming, and the service is always quick and friendly, making it a reliable and delightful choice for a healthy, satisfying, and genuinely delicious meal every single time!

Google
Finally made my way to Urban Plates!! Excited to see a great selection of plates, salads, sides and wines!!! Love that there is a big menu outside with pictures of the plates, I mean, don't we first eat with our eyes. Went here for a primas dinner night, it was pick and choose to create your own custom plate. Before you place your order they had samples of some delicious cookies at the counter. You first go to the register to place your order, seat yourself and then they bring your plate to your table. The food was good and nice size portions, the service was fast, especially love the casual setting and not feeling rushed to leave. The cake desserts looked incredible, but was so stuffed only had space for a nibble of the chocolate chip and cowgirl cookies which were huge, I'll save the rest for a midnight snack. LOL. There was a steady flow of customers dining in and there's plenty of seating to accommodate. I did noticed that there were A LOT of delivery orders constantly going out the door, I'm thinking it has to do with their Plates Pass program, which seems like a great option to take advantage of. Overall super satisfied with our first experience and will be back. Thanks Faith for the great service and being friendly!

Google
Natalie was ringing me up at the register. I had a pleasant experience with her. She was super friendly and treated as me as her family. I will continue to come back for such great customer Service like her.

Google
I love urban plates! The food was amazing and very filling. Love the portions and tasty as always! Brought a friend to check it out with me and he loved it too. Oh and the chocolate chip cookie was the cherry on top to the perfect lunch. Thank you Natalie, we appreciate your service, you’re so kind.

Google
I did an online order. Everything was prepared well (the chicken was a little overdone but still fine). Ordered the tenders, grilled tofu, fries, rice. The tenders again were a little overdone, a mix of sweet and savory and very large and overall didn't really enjoy them. They weren't nasty luckily but it often feels like sweet is overcompensating a lot more these days to make up for failures in creating excellent savory and it was just meh. The tofu was flat out nasty though something was just off about it. Sides were okay- inside of fries was mushier than I would have liked. It was expensive but to be expected in San Diego. Wouldn't go here again but not traumatized by the experience or anything

Yelp
Came here with my family. Great spot for all of us to get food we liked. Kids plates are good food and reasonably priced. My kiddo liked the salmon and broccoli. Staff was so helpful and patient. Natalie took our order and answered all of our questions. We will come back soon!

David S.

Yelp
Excellent service by Natalie - efficient, courteous and comprehensive knowledge of menu options. Also, honorable mention for Javier, runner extraordinaire

Yelp
Came in late on a Friday night for a quick and casual meal post-workout. They have a great variety of health-conscious meals with a range of proteins. I opted for the grilled chicken Cobb salad. The cashier kindly offered dressing on the side and the bowl came with a slice of grilled bread. Portion size was fair for a decent price. My boyfriend got the steak chimichurri plate, which came with a helping of mashed potatoes (gravy optional) and broccoli - a very well-rounded meal!

Yelp
Aaron is the man! Gotta appreciate folks who know how to keep a line moving. Meats are sustainable and plenty of veggie options. Something for everyone and a great go-between between unhealthy fast food and pricey table service dining. Please stay here in Pasadena.

Yelp
Located on Lake Ave in Pasadena, Urban Plates sits amongst other popular restaurants for lunch. There is street parking but its only for 1 hour. There's also parking in the lots on the opposite side of the street, but those also fill up quick. Urban plates offers up a variety of foods that trend mostly to the healthy side. The prices are a little higher end for lunch, but the quality makes up for it. I ordered the Moroccan chicken with rice and was pleasantly surprised by the flavor. It has a nice spice flavor to it, not to be confused with spicy. The sauce has a slight sweetness that pairs really well with the rice. The bread offers a great way to scoop up the last of the sauce and as a nice change in texture. The service was incredible and everyone was really friendly. They have patio seating and its not too loud even in the middle of the day.

Yelp
I was excited to try Urban Plates after looking at their menu and pictures. It's clearly super popular. When we arrived for lunch around 12:30 Wednesday there was a very long line that moved pretty slowly. Everything took a while to come out, but service was very nice and friendly. I got the chili glazed grilled tofu plate with sides of mushroom stuffing and beets & goat cheese. Everything looked good, so I was surprised how unremarkable it ended up tasting. Everything I got tasted fairly standard but somewhat plain. The tofu was kinda dry and the stuffing was on the mushy side. I also got a slice of mango tart. That was probably the most disappointing one for me. First, I was surprised how small the piece was (maybe 2.5" wide at the crust end) for $8.25. But worse, it tasted strangely sour and the mango was stringy. I don't know if it was an off day or what. But given the popularity and good reviews, I'm just really surprised overall by the food I received. I parked in the garage behind the restaurant. Validation was simple but it ended up costing $6 for a little over 2 hours.

Yelp
This is the place to go to if you want a quick fresh meal. I had the ahi tuna salad and it was delicious. Service was pretty quick and very friendly. It's more of like chipotle style but they bring you the food. I would stop by here again.

Yelp
Service good. Aaron helpful. Had to orient myself when walking in since they no longer have the self serve lines like they had before.

Yelp
I got the chicken with chimmichuri mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. There was a bread that came with it. It was good the chicken was braised well as it was tender and soft and flavorful. I got the dragon fruit drink and it was so refreshing. They were slow to bring our food. Inside was a casual lunch vibe.

Yelp
First time visiting, delicious food, friendly service, big, clean & spacious with plenty of indoor & outdoor seating. There's lots of choices on the menu: Burgers, sandwiches, wraps, plates, bowls, soups, desserts, kids meals & lots of gluten free options. The food is healthy & affordable with cage free chicken, grass fed steak, sustainable seafood & refillable drinks. I enjoyed the sea bass with broccoli, mash potatoes with gravy & gluten free bread. Tip: You can get the Urban plate pass for $5/month & get 20% off your order every time. It pays for itself in one visit!

Yelp
11/25/2025 Urban Plates has been around for a long time, yet I've never ate here before. It is a fast-casual restaurant where you order at the front register, take your order number and a server brings your food to the table. THANKSGIVING PLATE (Offered during 11/25 - 11/30) Special menu for Thanksgiving week. They make Thanksgiving plates for individual orders. Each plate automatically comes with a side of turkey breast slices, mushroom stuffing, gravy, cranberry relish, rustic bread and a choice of one side. Turkey slices were tender and moist. The mashed potatoes with gravy were good too. The stuffing was not great and it was dry. Flavor was okay, but dry, dry, dry. Had to add the gravy to make it more edible stuffing. Cranberry was basic, but still a good tangyness added to the whole dish. I was missing a slice of the bread. Also, not sure what happened, but I wasn't told about the extra side. Wish they told me that when I was ordering at the front register. Overall, I did like my turkey plate, but because I was missing a few sides, it lacked a bit in overall experience. Ordered organic iced tea (only iced tea offered) and it was a clean flavor with no sugar added. Urban Plates also offer a full Thanksgiving Turkey Family Meal and Family sides to-go. Turkey Family Meal is available until 11/30. SEATS / AMBIANCE The tables and seats were comfortable and clean. The tables weren't too close together, but the design at this location was a bit odd. Some of tables were situated in awkward places and tables were turned a certain way which made it a bit strange to sit and eat. The restaurant was large and had many tables and seats both indoors and outdoors, which is a plus. The overall design is cozy, but it could be more modern in overall design. Never seen a fast-casual restaurant with so many tables and seats! The day I was there, there were lots of people dining indoors. PARKING Difficult to find street parking, as it is a busy street. There is street parking right in front of the restaurant. Street parking is paid parking only. There's a pay station on that street. Best to park in the parking structure on Lake + Del Mar. Turn into Del Mar and Pasarroyo parking structure will be right there. Urban Plates will validate your parking ticket from Pasarroyo parking structure for 90 minutes. Validation available at the front register. I parked at the 2 hr visitor parking on first floor, which was very convenient and a close distance to the restaurant. LOCATION On Del Mar Blvd. + Lake Ave. Right between Charles Schwab and Dunkin' Donuts. Citibank right next to Dunkin' Donuts. Susie Cakes right across from them. CUSTOMER SERVICE All the servers were friendly and smiling. It was nice to see them welcoming everyone walking through the door. Good and friendly service is so underrated now! I truly appreciate everyone who put forth the effort to bring exceptional service to all the diners there. I can see why this place was packed! There were so many customers coming in with online orders to in person orders. With this much friendly service, good food and parking validation, I would frequent it too! I liked my overall experience at this location. If I lived closer, I'd probably come here more often and try their regular menu items! One star taken off because the person taking my order did a poor job at explaining the menu and did not tell me about the additional free side. Also, forgot the rustic bread.

Yelp
I had no intention of going to Urban Plates a few weeks back, but thanks to another restaurant having a two hour wait, I ended up here with my wife and it was the BEST possible thing that could have happened to us. When you walk into this place, you see a ton of tables as well as countertop seating as well as an entry point into the ordering line. Similar to when you walk into a Chipotle or something like that, you get in like and make your way to the cashier to tell them what you want. You can get entree plates like chicken, beef, or pork dishes as well as burgers, sandwiches, salads, and even some chicken tenders if you want. I knew from the second I looked at the screen that I was ordering the Chimichurri Grass Fed Steak combi with mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. Once you order, you get a number card to place where you sit and eventually a staff member will bring the food right to you. When I say I was blown away with the quality of food I had, I feel like it's an understatement. The Chimichurry Grass Fed Steak was so juicy and had such delicious flavour I can honestly say it was better than some steaks I've spent $80+ on and liked way less than this delicious piece of meat. The side dishes I had with it were both top notch high end restaurant quality sides and didn't last long enough to see the inside of a take home container. Overall, Urban Plates is somewhere I'm going to come back to many times when I live in LA. The food here was absolutely delicious, the staff was great, and the atmosphere was nice to be inside of as well. Do yourself a favour and give this place a shot!

Yelp
My family frequents urban plates on a regular basis, mostly in Brea California. Our first time at this Pasadena restaurant was very pleasant. Our host, Daniel took his time with our order wow taking the time to give us suggestions and everything was perfect his service and the food.

Yelp
Great selection of proteins and organic options. I like that you can customize a plate to suit your dietary needs. Good service -- Daniel took our order and was excellent. Lots of seating and a cool outdoor patio option that is dog friendly.

Yelp
There was a line at the counter but it moved quick. Uma walked over to us and took us to a different counter to order. Her service was quick and polite. Great guest service from her.

Yelp
Having lived in the area for a bit, Urban Plates is a spot I've often passed by though never tried. I know I had to stop by with a friend and check it out. She drew me to the grilled steak, which I had with their ginger rice and roasted marbled potatoes, and she had the Carribean Salad. Ordering was fairly straightforward, though it took a while even though there was no line at the time. After ordering, we got a number; utensils and water were self-serve. A staff member shortly brought us our food, and we enjoyed sitting facing traffic. (There's something about a nice breeze on a lukewarm summer night.) The first bite of grilled steak was perhaps the first disappointment, since I ordered it medium rare, and this steak was tough to chew. The rice was fairly tough, dry, and grainy, and the roasted potatoes were of a similar texture, dry and rough. (The purple was definitely a surprise though.) Her Caribbean salad? Amazing, though! It had a nice tangy dressing and was not overdressed. The medley of roasted cashews and greens also gave it a chew, and the fruits in contrast a juicy bite. Both entrees also came with buttered sourdough bread, and they were definitely on the charred side, grilled a tad beyond the sweet "just right" golden brown. All in all, I have mixed reviews. Their salads were delightful, but the steak and sides are a pass - at least for now.

Yelp
Kevin delivered superior service and helped us make some great choices for our first Dining experience with Urban Plates! Steak sandwhich was excellent and the blackened salmon was divine! Thanks Kevin!!!

Yelp
After so many years walking by Urban Plates, I finally walked in. This is one of those fast casual restaurants where you order at the counter, are given a number and they bring the food to your table. During lunch, the line can get long, but it moves fast as long as the people already know what they want. I was not one of those, so I kept waving people to go ahead of me. Once seated, the food surprisingly came out rather quickly. We ordered about 6 plates, but I only tried a few. Unfortunately, when we were ordering, we felt the pressure of people lined up behind us, so really didn't read the menu carefully. The grass fed steak is decent. Nice flavor, cooked slightly over medium and not tender, but not tough either. The brussel sprouts were drizzled w/ balsamic. I know this is a classic way to prepare it, but it covered up the taste of the sprouts. A side of Caesar's salad was piled onto a tiny plate, so with the smallest movement, things were falling everywhere. The tumeric rice that came as a side had no tumeric flavor, it was ok. The wild ahi Niçoise salad looked great, but the balsamic dressing really didn't pair well with the tuna. The chicken tenders were good, and the marble potatoes ... well, tasted like potatoes. The toasted rustic bread that came with each dish was great. Nice crisp edges with a chewy middle and a charred smoky taste. The service was very good. We constantly had people come by to check on us and clear our table. Even one of the chefs came out to greet the customers. The interior is charming in its own way, with greenery and wood accents to give it a very natural, earthy vibe. Though the dishes we ordered didn't impress us, I still might return, after I study the menu a bit more.

Yelp
Ordered Doordash and got the Grilled Salmon Plate ($23.25), which came with 2 sides, as well as a toast. The Salmon was very dry and overcooked unfortunately. It was quite bland but good thing it came with Dijon mustard to dip. This was 6/10 The toast was not as crispy as I was expecting but it was ok. The Rainbow Carrots & Golden Beets (side) was ok. A little too bland and too mushy. I just dipped it in the dijon mustard so it'd have more flavor. This was 5/10 The Red & White Quinoa with Tomato Pesto (side) was extremely flavorless unfortunately. It was nothing special and just tasted like bland quinoa. This was 5/10 Pretty disappointed but might give it another chance and/or recommend in the future.

Yelp
The food and ambience was amazing. The service was the best and memorable moment because of the cashier, Aaron, was really helpful and patience with mu indecisiveness. Highly recommend this facility for service and food.

Yelp
First visit and took advantage of a Valentine's Day Special offer (3 course dinner for 2 for $59). I would classify Urban Plates as upscale cafeteria style dining. As you can imagine, it was very busy, but the line to order moved quickly and we were lucky to find a table without having to wait. The food was good, and the restaurant was clean. Parking can be tough in this area...on street or in a public lot about a block away, but it's an extremely busy area, so expect to hunt for a spot. FOOD: We ordered the following for our three-course special: Seafood Chowder, Barramundi Seabass with Beet Salad and Brussels Sprouts, Chimichurri Grilled Steak with Parmesan Mushrooms and Mac-n-Cheese. We finished with the Hummingbird Cake which was a carrot cake with a hint of pineapple. In addition, we ordered the Garlic Shrimp Plate with Mashed Potatoes and Asparagus ($15.99) for my mother-in-law, and a Shrimp Skewer ($5) to share. Everything was good, although a few items required a little seasoning (salt/pepper) for our taste. Plenty of healthy choices on the menu as well. Overall, a nice experience and I would definitely go back again and try some other menu items.

Yelp
I was in the area and needed somewhere macro friendly to grab a bite. Sometimes it's hard to feel like you're not missing out on a cut, but Urban Plates did the trick for me. I really enjoyed the protein centered plates with local ingredients. The ahi tuna with ponzu and wasabi was great. I eat a lot of fish but I also hate the taste of it honestly, so I was really happy with how mild and fresh it tasted. The sides are fantastic and there are so many to choose from. One thing to note is that vegan options are priced very fairly-- a few dollars cheaper than animal based plates. Urban Plates' message seems to be about sustainability and I think that that is not a bad way to encourage more people to give those options a go. The interior is clean with lots of natural lighting, plants, and seating. Water, utensils, and sauces are self serve. They had little samples of hummingbird cake available at the counter, too. I really enjoyed eating here and hope new locations open up closer to me!

Yelp
We were traveling to Southern California and decided to check out Urban Plates so we took a little detour route. From the moment we entered the front door, we were greeted with a friendly cheerful voice and smile. We checked out their menu choices and decided on their steak and salad/veggies options and skipped the bread!! The chimichurri sauce was AWESOME!! Grass fed steak cooked to perfection. The salad was also delicious!! The employees walked around asking if everything was ok and if we needed anything. We had a very nice chat. At the time of the visit, there was a big devastated fire going. The gentleman thanked us for our support. Overall, an awesome experience. The food was fresh. A healthier choice. The quality was excellent. The service was superb!! The bathroom was clean!! Street meter parking. Nice looking patio. We will be back.....

Yelp
The manager told me to message him and I emailed him twice and never heard back. Very disappointing that you ask customer to reach out on their experience and you wouldn't even respond. I'm still extremely disappointed and frustrated with my experience here especially when they overcharged me and when I complained they told me it's only a $2 difference in overcharge not a big deal and the food was cold and not tasty.

November S.

Yelp
Natalie took our order and provided us with a welcoming experience. Nice choice of desserts.

Yelp
If you're looking for organic grass fed Meals, look no further cuz this is the spot. Plus it's also delicious! The healthiest choices and not bad for the wallet, during these times. Been here several times and all I've tried has been yumm! They also have homemade healthier drinks & sugar cane sodas. The ambiance is pretty relaxing too. Stop by if you haven't. You won't regret it !!

Yelp
Used to frequent Urban Plates in Brea and loved the food, so when I passed by the one in Pasadena, I was starving and was super excited to be able to order all my usual favorites. The lunch for the two of us w/drinks came out to over $90 (to be fair, we each ordered alcohol), but the presentation wasn't great and the taste of the food was pretty disappointing. Everything was tasteless. Not sure if I would be coming back.

Yelp
Jess was super welcoming Offered me and my girls some delicious wellness boosters on the house. First time trying this restaurant and will definitely will return

Yelp
I've been here so many times starting in 2015! I love how the food portion and quality is decent and each meal has the right about of protein, carbs and veggies (if you choose to have those sides). It's close to where I go for my swim so it's convenient for me. Parking is validated in the underground covered parking lot but you can also park on the street which makes things easy. I also like the plate pass. For $5/ month you can get 20 percent off your order, which adds up over time if you come here a lot. I just signed up yesterday so am looking forward to coming back more often! Ambiance is casual and family friendly. Really good vibes

Yelp
Great service from Daniel. I got the seabass, seasoned perfectly. Also got the mashed potatoes which were creamy and flavorful. Will be a regular.

Yelp
We went on a Thursday night at roughly 8pm, there isn't a lot of customers and we were helped immediately. The food came out in about 10 minutes after ordering and they were perfect! I love the mushrooms, carrots and beets, and brussel sprouts as their sides! So soft so flavorful and if not enough flavor, add salt yourself! My steak was cooled medium rare with chimichurri sauce and it was delicious! All I can say is 5 star on the food since not much service was truly provided. Would come back for the steak and another healthy meal!

Yelp
Tonight's dinner was takeout from a longtime favorite of my wife's and her lady's cancer group. Since she happened to be in the area today. A first time try for me and our son. Viewing their menu, I chose the Grilled Grass Fed Steak Sandwich with Chips. Tender and flavorful beef on a French roll, which also included in-house prepared chips. A good first impression. My son was okay with his Caesar Salad With Chicken, but didn't think it compares with California Chicken Cafe. However, my wife was perfectly fine with her choice of the Grass Fed Steak Plate. With sides of Balsamic Brussels Sprouts and Roasted Marbled Potatoes. Her first try of that particular menu item. Overall, a very nice try of a new venue for me. I'd like to experience dining in next time, hopefully in the not too distant future.

Zoë C.

Yelp
Daniel was great! He made sure my allergies were listed in the order and double checked as well that what I ordered was allergen free.

Yelp
So I tried this place once again and disappointed once again!!! The ghetto chefs were starting at my buddy's wife the entire time . So uncomfortable . Then the guy with the goat t had the nerve to give me a dirty look! I was pissed because I could've easily dragged him out by the ear but I kept myself calm! The salad I ordered had a bunch of old lettuce leaves and wasn't properly washed correctly! There's no quality control there? Never again

Debra D.

Yelp
I go to this place whenever I can. Daniel B was great taking my order. Food was excellent

Yanina S.

Yelp
Service was amazing! They are very attentive. Came with a group of 20+ and the food cane out quick. One plate was returned and they were nice to replace the food without the snarky comments - downside is the food flavor. Its a hit or miss BUT they explain it nicely Natalie- was amazing!!!!!! She helped a ton! Was nice enough to help with my plate return

Yelp

Yelp
Yummy, fresh food. The plates come with choices of sides. Their craft soda (forgot the brand) is refreshing and not that sweet. The employees are nice. Would definitely return for lunch or dinner if in the area.

Yelp
First time customer. Will not return. Customer service was slow to stand and order your food, not sure if the lunch time rush was too much for them or what. Ordered steak, mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. The food was ok but the steak was chewy. I guess you get what you pay for. I ordered to go but sat in the dining area while I waited for my order to be ready. The first chair I attempted to sit in along the counter with a window view and it was full of crumbs. No worries maybe a kid was just sitting there even though the entire area was empty. Next chair more left over food. For the prices of the food, I guess I expected the place to be cleaner. Also the spicy teriyaki wasn't spicy at all.

Yelp
I always come here for the food because I really like the chili tofu. The food is very tasty and does not leave you feeling heavy. Natalie the nice young lady at the register was just so pleasant and sweet. I can appreciate the customer service for sure.

Love Urban plates. Delicious food and reasonably priced. Try the mushroom and beef with mashed potatoes. I order an extra serving to put in my freezer. Soooo good. Nice atmosphere.
