So it's been MANY years since going to CPK. Used to go to this location regularly for a long time, then I moved and the location at RIO Lakefront became our go-to location until things started to go down in food quality & menu changes.
Last night a friend suggested this CPK location mentioning that she had been a few times lately and really enjoyed the food. So we were game to retry after 5+year break from CPK in general.
Upon entering from the garage side, we walked through noticing a bustling & noisy atmosphere for a Thursday night. Our "experienced" friend asked the host if we could sit in the back where she assumed it would be quieter. It was for a little while, BUT, the booths need some rehab!!! The seating is SO low that you feel like the table is almost at your chest. For hubby who is 6'4, he wasn't finding that an issue other than feeling like he was sitting in a gully. Our friend ended up pulling a chair up and sat in the aisle instead and I sat on the seam which had frame support, not the most comfortable but elevated me a bit.
Waitress was very nice and personable, but that's it for compliments on service. I asked for bread literally 3 times and when she DID finally deliver once our meals were almost done, she did apologize admitting "you did ask me 3 times". At least she acknowledged her error, which was admirable for a younger server. We were out of drinks and had to ask for refills which is a pet peeve of mine. Don't let our drinks go empty while we are still consuming food, just come by with fresh refills!
Food was EXCELLENT!! I do miss some of my old favs and I also felt the bread was lacking both in slice size and not sourdough enough or at all. Oil served was silly with lack of adequate spices. Wasn't that the draw because they are from CA home of sourdough, right?
So, we ordered, mine was the BBQ Chopped salad, full size with avocado, no substitutions and it was delicious and definitely hit the spot and actually entree worthy meal size. I was happy it met & exceeded expectations, even took a little home and had for side lunch salad. Hubby got his usual, pepperoni mushroom and sausage classic crust pizza, which he said was cooked to perfection. Dough wasn't overly chewy nor too crunchy. Just right, though he did comment that the pepperoni was a little spicier than he remembered. Our friend had the chicken Piccata which looked amazingly delicious and she said it was as she ate every last bite!!
No dessert tonight, but on food taste and quality at THIS location, we would definitely consider return trip. Just wish some of those old favs would return.
