SoCal Salad Chain Urban Plates Envisions a Dozen D.C. Locations | Eater DC

"Opened in 2011 in an upscale shopping center in Del Mar, California, the flagship launched the San Diego-born chain that has since expanded to a dozen more California locations; it's known for a laid-back, cafeteria-style approach with an open kitchen, a lived-in rustic atmosphere, salads and other fresh plates, pastries, and seasonal drinks. The brand has also been refining service—bringing in experienced talent from fine dining—and has recently begun offering catering as another business line." - Tierney Plumb

Really great atmosphere and menu. I haven’t been here in a while (since before Covid, when there used to be a line and you moved your tray along) … but I was pleased to see that their current menu still has everything that I would’ve wanted when Tyler took my order. Most of their plates are a tad pricey, but they have so many other options (vegetarian options too) where I’m pretty satisfied.

Google
Tyler waited on us. He explained what was on our selections. Urban Plates is comfort food elevated! We recommend you visit one of their many locations but Del Mar Highlands is our favorite.

I'm in love with their CHICKEN COBB SALAD. I don't usually get that excited about salads, but the Buttermilk Dill Dressing and fresh ingredients make me crave it. The CARIBBEAN SALAD was fantastic too! It is unique and full of flavor. I added grilled chicken to it and it was delicious. The CHICKEN CAESAR SALAD was incredibly good too. Their food is making me so happy. They are really good about reading the notes for customizing the salads. I got them delivered a few times, and my daughter wanted steak instead of chicken, and no blue cheese. Anything like that, they nailed it. I was missing out. I took too long to try this place. I guess I thought of it as "the brussel sprouts place". Was I ever wrong. They have a lot of interesting things I want to try. Now that I see the light, I am working my way through their menu. 😁 The beef is grass-fed. I am not a fan of the taste, but I never am though, so that's just me. But it's super tender, it might be just what some people are looking for. The Mediterranean Chicken Bowl was good. It made me realize how much I love their hummus. I like it better than any I've tried. The HUMMUS & PITA CHIPS is one of my favorite things here. Their FLOURLESS CHOCOLATE CAKE just makes the world a better place. It tastes like the inside of a chocolate truffle. It was bliss. It's rich enough that I would have even been quite happy with half. The other desserts like the Mango Tart have been good, but this made me say wow with each bite.

Google
Great place to grab a nice salad, Mediterranean bowl, steak dinner plate . . So many choices. The truffle fries were crispy on the outside and tender inside, so very tasty. They serve Stubborn soda, too.

Great customer service- Tyler was amazing 🤩, he carefully listened to our order, was very friendly and helpful. He was very efficient and made our experience unforgettable. It’s always such a gift to be greeted w a smile 😊 and a personal connection We have been customers of UP for over 15 yrs and always look forward to coming back - it’s our Friday night fav! ❤️✨❤️

UPDATED: the management team at this location was very helpful and took all my concerns into consideration which I’m very grateful for. I would like to believe this was an off day and hope to try them again. Wonderful atmosphere and employees but nothing to rave about in regards to their food. I ordered takeout which was ready very quickly but it arrived cold, with almost no cheese, some questionable looking chicken and a freezing cold bun. Their online menu shows a toasted or grilled bun for their “grilled chicken sandwich”. My drive home is only 3 minutes so I find it hard to believe the sandwich was ice cold after immediate pickup and a 3 minute drive. The photos will speak for themselves.

We had a great experience at Urban Plates thanks to JJ, who helped us place our order. Super friendly and patient while we decided what to get! We ended up ordering the ribs (which were delicious), corn, rice, and a banana cream pie for dessert—everything was fresh and flavorful. The organic lemonade was also super refreshing. Great service and great food. We’ll definitely be back!

Google
We’re members of the Urban Plates Pass and it’s a great deal for our family of 4. You get 20% off every order and it’s only $5/ month. Some of our favorites are the Beef and Mushroom Braise and I always get the Mediterranean Chicken bowel. Our kids are fans of the steaks. Today, Tyler E. served us at the counter, and was really helpful. We always have a great experience here- it’s an excellent quick dining option.

Yelp
Bought the Turkey Family Feast this year. It's fantastic! Ordered online a few weeks before and chose a time slot. They were very organized and on time during pick up. Awesome service! Directions to reheat is easy to follow. Turkey was moist, soft and delicious. Kids love the Mac and cheese. It fed our family of 10 and we still had leftovers. We will definitely do this again. Very convenient and tasty!

Yelp
Solid food! I got the Moroccan chicken braise bowl with rice, oh man! So flavorful and tender chicken. I was leaning towards the beef but I'm glad I got the chicken. I'd say my only "complain" is I wish I had more of it, it was just so yummy! The bread on the side was also good, how you can taste the grill char. I also got the chocolate chip cookies. My manager said it was good so I grabbed one for us to share. It was soft inside and a bit crispy on the outside. It also had that brown sugar taste to it, overall a bit sweet so you can only have so much, which is a good thing! I'd consider this place again.

Yelp
Steak - came out well done and tough as a tire Ahi tuna - overall great with the mash potatoes being tasty What lost my mind is the garlic bread that they served. It was literally burnt half way. I get it, visually looks aesthetic with the grill marks. But this thing was burnt...would you feed your family or friends burnt food? Then why even send this out.

Yelp
It has been a couple of years since I have dined at Urban Plates. I recall lining up and pointing out to the server which entree you would like. Not no more, that line is barricaded now as serves as a mobile order pick up station. Gone are the days of seeing cooked food and now you order from a board. My lunch order consisted of a half steak sandwich and a small cup of soup. The half sandwich was so tiny it looked like a sample size. The steak was ok but the bread was a little chewy. The soup a tortilla chicken soup was so salty and not that enjoyable. I would probably not come back as it seems that Urban Plates has gone down hill in terms of food quality.

Yelp
Another great meal featuring fast preparation, balanced meals, versatile menu, and lots of kid-friendly options! *We got the surf and turf plate and the grilled chicken plate. Everything was delicious. I'd like to highlight that the chicken was juicy and perfectly seasoned for my tastes (light seasoning). Everyone agreed that they enjoyed the chicken more than the steak (opportunity for improvement) *The mac n cheese was decadent and I totally dip the chicken and the (less glazed bits of) broccoli in. *The sesame glaze on the broccoli could stand on it's own as well! Absolutely amazing. *The mash potatoes were extra creamy, and the shrimp were delicious as well. *toasted bread with olive oil- wonderful. Our friends also came with us, with their two kids. *Their kids had loved the mediterranean chicken bowl-- specifically the rice and the pita bread, and side of garlic french fries. *The dragonfruit refresher- I watched their toddler chug it at the end of the meal. (Side note, they also have a pretty good kids menu for those who want to get their kid their own plate.) The parents were pretty happy their kids could eat here. Seating was plentiful (today is saturday nigjt), with some large booths. Service was speedy, so we hungry people never have to wait too long. This is the second time I have brought guests here and loved it, as there's always a personalized plate for everyone! I am a huge fan!

Yelp
Grown-up "cafeteria" in the Del Mar Highlands Shopping Plaza with food made from scratch and industrial decor. No trailblazing here in the menu, just basic good eats. The assembly-style service line moves fast, but I still prefer to come at off-peak hours to avoid potential lunch crowds!

Yelp
I just wanna start and say this is not a biased opinion. We love urban plates, I always go to the one in Carlsbad but decided to try this location. I was severely disappointed. The cashier was rude and annoyed you could tell. Then I went to the restroom to washed my husband and the cooked came out without washing her hands. I heard the toilet flush and the door open right away a second after so I know shit and I'll wash her hands, so it made me lose my appetite.. my husband salmon was bland and small and my burger was good, but the fries were not at all They were old and cold.. is just sad. We left with the bad impression..

Yelp
Urban plates is the family go to spot for a healthy (salads) or unhealthy meal (fried chicken and fries) like they have many options and I would say their dessert variety is tasty. My son always opts for the unhealthy and for many kids the home made Mac and cheese is their favorite. This is located in a high traffic spot near sky deck Del Mar and one paseo but it's never too crowded even on the weekends. I've gone to the University City one and that's my go to spot for meetings. It's priced what you expect for the area and I've been contemplating their "plate pass" for some time but just haven't gotten around to it because I'm not frequent in urban plates that much. I feel the variety and choice give this place its stars and I know they pride themselves on organic and fresh which is good--I can see it but most of the time my kids just go for the tenders and fries. Not fully 5 stars because the food presentation and taste is still needing a bit extra but I still rate it high.

Yelp
Excellent service! Walked straight to the front to order and had our questions and suggestions answered with ease. The food is delicious! You can tell great pride is taken in the food quality Don't miss the seasonal cranberry apple ginger drink!

Yelp
We got the nashville and spicy teriyaki tenders. Both are good choices. For the sides we got rainbow carrots (can probably skip), mash potatoes w gravy, garlic parm mushroom, and mushroom stuffing (it was ok). The food came out fast. The guy taking our order did not want to be there what so ever. The attitude and tone was very unnecessary, when we're just ordering our food, literally not giving him a hard time at all. It literally ruined our whole lunch and I'd probably won't come back.

Yelp
First time trying this place. We got delivery on Thursday night. My friend orders food here often. I ordered the grilled salmon, sesame broccolini and turmeric basmati rice. She got the braised beef with potatoes. Food arrived in 20 minutes and was hot. The portions were big but I ate every last bite. Menu seemed to be on the healthier side. Lots of variety to choose from.

Yelp
We ordered to-go for the wrong location and the manager graciously helped us through it. It's another San Diego location and both street names have "Camino" in it that had confused me... When the manager had caught my blunder, he swiftly called the other location to canceled my order on my behalf and asked them to refund me and then remade my order at the store I was at. As a mom with three hungry kids waiting on me, I really appreciated that he took that upon him to handle the refund so I didn't have to call afterwards. And as for the food, it was great! I wish I lived closer to an Urban Plate location.

Marny J.

Yelp
I ordered braised beef - with rice, not potatoes and with bread. Used DoorDash so I couldn't verify at the site. Does that look like rice? And no bread. For the $$? Never again

Yelp
"Urban" is a silly term when applied to food, but regardless of the name, the food here is mostly very, very good. It's a very attractive place and the employees were all hustling and very attentive. Incidentally, I dare you to get more suburban (and definitely not "urban") than this location. There is nowhere on earth more suburban than this area. You order at the counter but they bring you your food to you on real plates and you use real silverware. They bus the tables, too, so it feels a bit more upscale than you might expect. It feels like a sit-down restaurant and it's nice and attractive inside. The Chicken Caesar Salad was very fresh and excellent. Even the croutons tasted housemade. You only get about five shrimps on a skewer with the garlic shrimp plate but they are delicious and drenched in garlic butter, I assume. For my two sides, I tried the sesame broccoli and the roasted brussell sprouts, both of which were very fresh and flavorful. They throw in a nice piece of grilled bread, too. I felt that the chicken fingers were far too heavily breaded and the chicken meat inside was very dry. That dish was a miss. If you want something decadent, the side of truffle fries is outstanding. But you'll have very strong breath afterwards, trust me. The menu is extensive and the prices are on par with some real sit-down restaurants which actually use servers. But the quality of the food is very high here so you get what you pay for.

Yelp
Ordered on DD. At first I thought they forgot my drink but luckily it was inside the bag. Food was good as always, was cold but that's not on urban plates. Ordered side of scrimp and steak plate !

Yelp
I love a fast casual concept with healthy food and Urban Plates is no exception! At first I was overlooked by the folks taking orders without much of an apology, but service improved during our visit... I stopped in with my son on a Friday evening and this place was packed. After we placed our order, we found a spot to sit at the large community table. I had a plate with salmon, marbled potatoes and simple broccoli and my son had the kids plate with steak and french fries. After one bite of steak, he decided he should have ordered the salmon instead and the manager was sweet enough to bring him salmon instead. If / when I return, I would ask for the bread to be served plain... (mostly for my picky son). Everything else on the menu looked pretty good as well... It's located in a Busy shopping center, but plenty of parking is available. Solid option for a healthy meal, indeed!

Yelp
4-5 Stars. I love how in the front of Urban Plates they have an enlarged menu with photos and details (Color Key for Gluten Free, Vegan, Vegetarian, etc). The menu is well organized and it contains the prices as well. After ordering at the very front (you don't go down the line to choose what sides you want and sample anymore), they give you a number stand to bring back to the table and later they bring the food to you. They have a water station and in that area they have utensils and napkins for you to bring to your table as well. I came here for lunch with a friend. We ordered the ~$19.75 Grilled Grass Fed Steak Plate with a slice of Bread, dressed Caesar Salad (you have option of dressed or sauce on side), and Mashed Potatoes with Gravy. The menu said that the steak is grilled to med-rare. That was not the case, it was over cooked and a bit odd looking. However, the mashed potatoes were delightful! The texture and flavor were delicious. I liked that the toasted bread wasn't too hard. They gave a lot of caesar salad and the dressing was flavorful. We also shared a slice of their $8 Hummingbird Cake. I never had this and thought it was quite unique. It is said to be a banana-pineapple spiced cake with vanilla orange cream cheese frosting....fresh pineapple chunks, walnuts, and rum. From the first bite, I got the walnuts and a burst of juice from the pineapple chunks. It reminded me a bit of a carrot cake, without the carrots. The cake is not a banana forward cake and you can't taste the rum or vanilla. I do wish there was more of an orange oomph, perhaps the zest in the cream cheese frosting would provide that delicious zing. Overall, I think Urban Plates is a great place to come for lunch. They are kind and have fast service. The interior is clean and they have lots of seating available -- inside and outside. The menu is easy to read and they have multiple options for everyone. The prices aren't too bad, as they reflect the portions and provide healthy food options (compared to other places). I'd recommend coming here! Next time, I want to try their banana cream pie.

Yelp
11/23/25: quality of food preparation was poor. Ordered fired chicken plate and chicken Caesar wrap. The fried chicken was way over cooked and dry. Mac salad side was cold. The flour tortilla with the wrap was stale and tough. The side carrot beet salad was just thrown on the plate. A mess. Management should pay closer to food quality control. A real disappointment and waste of a lot of money. Will not be returning.

Yelp
With a revamped value menu, Urban Plates is probably the best quality/value option in this area. Everything is pretty good here, even their cheap burger option. Fries were amazing. Summarion: You can't go wrong here. The food is good, the price is reasonable expecially for this part of town. - Parking still sucks here.
google avatar

Yelp
I used to really enjoy Urban Plates, but sadly, it's gone downhill. The service was surprisingly rude and dismissive--when I asked about the drinks, the staff seemed visibly annoyed. As for the food, it was not worth the money. The steak was extremely tough, the mashed potatoes and roast veggies were cold. The interior is nice but the service and food completely take away from the experience. This used to be a place I looked forward to visiting, but after this experience, I won't be coming back.

Yelp
What a fabulous place for lunch. What's extra special is the ability to eat outside whenever the weather is nice... Oh yeah, the weather is always nice here! A bunch of us went out for lunch and this was the popular trendy spot to. I agree. Big variety of food to choose from including sandwiches, salads, combo plates, something for anyone and everyone. For me, I gave the Braised beef and mushroom bowl a run. I was very happy with my selection, but it was a little bit more food than I probably should've eaten for lunch. The bowl included beef, mushrooms, yellow, onions, and a variety of organic vegetables. Everyone else at the table also enjoyed their meals, but I can't recall what they got. Sorry. To drink, I went with the coconut seltzer. Outstanding!

Yelp
We are back visiting San Diego and were craving a repeat visit to Urban plates, which we loved in past years. It's close to the same, yet feels a little more "fast-food ish" hence the 4-stars. Miss the days of viewing all the options and picking a la carte. Our party do three ordered very different entrees and enjoyed them. Good flavors. Quick service. Prices seemed a bit steep for type of in-and-out, lower staff overhead style of the current restaurant. Can't recall who took our order; very little staff interaction. Clean restaurant with lots of seating. We might return on future visits yet feel a little less inspired.

Yelp
Great lunch spot! Love the covered outdoor seating and the food was great. The soup was much thicker than I was expecting but very yummy. It could have been a little warmer but that's okay. The bread can sometimes be rock hard but luckily today it was perfectly soft with a little bit of crunch! The chicken in the sandwich was so moist which is not always the case so I was very pleased. The fries were definitely just fried and SO yummy. We got one of their chocolate chip cookies and they are MASSIVE. Half a cookie was more than enough for one person. It was nice and soft, very good. Service was friendly and I definitely will be returning for a casual lunch sometime soon. Happy eating:)

Yelp
I love urban plates. The food is always fresh and tastes so good. If I could eat is everyday I would.

Yelp
I've been a loyal urban plates customer since they opened in Del Mar. However tonight's service was pretty terrible. I ordered online and walked in as I received text message that my order was about to be ready. Inside there were handful people waiting in the small waiting area and there was really nowhere to stand. I saw staff speaking constantly with each other but no one was attending the customers waiting. (There were apparently packed up orders to go on staff's side) This went on for more than 5 minutes. When I finally got close to the counter to inquire about my order and you guessed it, it's been sitting there. The staff member was really unfriendly like I shouldn't ask about my own food. And my name was spelled wrong when they sharpied it on the bag, even though my name was printed correctly in the order slip on the bag. The tuna Niçoise salad was significantly smaller too. I can understand that there is inflation so there is less food. But is it really the service industry's norm now that they don't greet or help you when you are waiting at the pick up counter???

Chris J.

Yelp
We ordered the takeout Thanksgiving dinner for four this year and it was very, very good. Plenty of turkey for four people and the brussels sprouts were really tasty. All the other side orders were delicious as well. We'll probably do this again next year!

Yelp
A solid place to eat. Located in a strip mall in del mar urban plates offers a variety of food for reasonable price. This place has become sort of a diet staple for us. Portions are reasonably tasty, reasonably prices (especially with plate pass), decent sized and they fit within my diet. You can find steak, salmon, chicken and more on the menu. You can get salads and bowls as well. I typically just get a plate which includes a protein and 2 sides and bread. Food is tasty and prepared well. Service is just walk up counter to order. Staff is always nice. Food comes out pretty fast too. Perfect place for a quick reasonably healthy meal.

Yelp
I love Urban Plates as a Celiac because I can a gluten-free meal that's safe for me to eat, thanks to their marked menu. Yesterday I ordered the blackened salmon with hollandaise. It came with 2 sides and I got the chipotle & herb marble potatoes & harissa lime cauliflower and a slice of gluten free bread for $22.14 (with tax.) I made sure to ask for a glove change because I'm celiac and need gluten-free. Portion looked small but it tasted fantastic, aside from their very dense gluten-free bread. Service is quick and they have ample indoor and outdoor seating. Unfortunately there are not many options for a meal with protein for less than $20 per person, so it's not necessarily affordable for families. Just to add chicken to any salad is an extra $8.50. I feel like the food is marked up so that you'll buy into their $60 per year membership program which includes 20% off your bill for food and between 20-35% off of beverages. I guess if you plan to spend more than $300 per year, pre-tax, the membership makes sense, but why not just lower the price and sell more meals? They also add a 3% surcharge for employee care or something. That's going to be made illegal next month here in California. Despite the bizarre membership thing, this isn't the first Urban Plates I've been to nor the last. Visited June 2024

Yelp
Do disappointed with the steak dinner. Totally overcooked steak.. the rustic bread was cold and hard. The potatoes were soft and nicely seasoned. We live their burgers. Usually come med rare. The fries are always dry. They are a little thicker cut than say a mc Donald's fry but always are dry. Was really bummed About my steak. My dog will be happy. Just not edible on the dry side..see photos

Yelp
Urban Plates is one of my favorite spots when I want something fresh but don't feel like cooking. The food actually tastes homemade -- I'm obsessed with their steak plate and Brussels sprouts, and everything always feels super clean and flavorful. It's kind of the perfect mix between healthy and satisfying. The only downside is it can get pretty busy during lunch or dinner, but honestly, it's worth the wait. It's one of those places that makes eating well feel easy.

Yelp
Found a hair in my salad after I took it home I have blonde hair and this is a black slightly curly short-ish hair.

Yelp
They make really good giant and delicious cookies! They're flatter and chewier, which is how I like them. I've tried their chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin, both of which are good depending on your preference. Really high-quality healthy and yummy food for a fair price. Tons of different items on the menu with something for everyone. It's like restaurant-style food but it's self-serve with no waiter which I like. Their food is also great to-go. Ever since I introduced my parents to this place, they always want to stop by here for lunch.
google avatar

Yelp
the half soup and sandwich combo is a good deal! it was a cold day so the tomato basil soup really hit the spot. there is plenty of seating inside of the restaurant. the staff is super helpful with questions.

Yelp
I cannot reccomended this place more, the food was sublime!! The quality is so good and the food combines fun flavors with healthy feeling food. The service was really good, they were kind and quick to come out with our food. The ambience is very chill inside could be good for a date night or just hanging with friends! I would definitely recommend checking it out

Yelp
Not sure where to begin writing a bad review for this place...the lack of good customer service or terrible tasting food? I picked this place for lunch because it was organic and in a good location (Del Mar) - both my husband and I ordered steak with mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts...The food was brought to us by a server who didn't smile or say anything, just dropped our food off at the table. The plates looked nothing like the picture we saw on the menu...and it tasted even worse than it looked... we tried the meat, but couldn't even chew it, we spit it out in a napkin... I asked the server if that's how the meat should look like, he said "no, it looks over done". I asked for the protein to be substituted for tuna, and my husband asked for chicken... he brought two tunas...while tuna looked and tasted good, my husband doesn't like seared tuna so he didn't eat at all...the sides didn't taste good either... Bottom line is terrible experience, it was our first and last time there...

Yelp
We stopped here to have diner. I had the tzatziki grilled chicken. All items on the plate were fresh and delicious. There was grilled chicken, hummus, tzatziki, salad, rice and pita. It was the perfect amount of food for me. We will definitely stop by again if in the area.
google avatar

Vina M.

Yelp
The food is good and advertised as healthy but at a high temperature the take out is served in black plastic containers that are reported by several sources to have unregulated amount of flame retardant and heavy metals which can leach into food and pose a hazard to human health. Do the research yourself.

Yelp
I wandered into urban plates after I had a massage in the same the plaza. The menu offerings were exactly what I was craving. They have lots of choices to mix and match different proteins in bowls, plates sandwiches etc. and lots of yummy sides to choose from . Upon ordering the staff was friendly and helpful. Got a fantastic plate of steak, Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes. There is outdoor and indoor seating which is nice. I close inside and it's very clean and a cozy vibe. Food cake promptly and was delicious. Will return next time I'm in the area. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a casual bite and get lots of food and beverage offerings.

Yelp
On a busy Friday night have someone in charge. It was probably 6:00 & busy. There was a new person, his 1st day, really. I believe the person training him was in charge, and he seemed new also. There were 4 of us & all got our food at different times. They both running plates to other tables, wrong tables or too many bowls of french fries. You have the numbering system, isn't the food made at the same time so that we can come out at the same time? My husband's corn was cold, must have been sitting in the streamer to long it was shriveled up, the 2nd order was a little better. His steak was just warm, but he said that was fine. His food came out first. The rest of us had to sit there and wait. I see you have a lot of to go orders, that's great for business I'm sure, the old way of ordering your food, seeing them make it/spooning on the plate, it just made it so efficient & you know what you're getting & it's correct. The kitchen seemed so disorganized last night. We probably spent over $200 & will probably not be back, especially with all the other restaurants around you. We loved the way it usually to be. I will say my daughters Futo plate (vegan) was delicious & her boyfriends bellaporta mushroom sandwich was great. My salad was good, get it all the time, poor husband... the guy paying not to much & it was his 1st time. Good luck & we wish you would go back to the cafeteria style worked much better.

Yelp
Just ordered through Uber eats to treat my team member to lunch. Got our order and Urban plates didn't give her dressing on the side or our (2) soups. When I called they stated they see the bag and reach out to Uber for a refund. Not helpful! That didn't get my team member her dressing for the salad etc. This is not an inexpensive place for lunch so a few options would have been nice to keep customers coming back. There are a lot of dining options in No. County and I'll be trying others who value my business and provide solutions other than rushing me off the phone when they made the mistake. Very disappointing service.

Yelp
Rapidly going downhill. Everything is too damn salty now! I used to go to this place regularly. In the past, their salads had relatively fresh vegetables, and their meats were usually cooked well with the right seasoning. Lately, however, most things are bad. The salads are filled with wilting greens, and they aren't tossed properly or balanced with the right amount of veggies. The fries are covered in a thick layer of salt. The blackened salmon leaves my mouth feeling dry and burning. Even the most recent cage free chicken sandwich I ate tasted like a salt sandwich. I don't know why everything is suddenly so salty, but this a good way to lose customers at a restaurant that markets itself as health-focused. Perhaps the recent implementation of Urban Pass is a sign of a declining business. Restaurants that are doing well don't usually rely on gimmicks such as monthly paid subscriptions for discounting food or a sneaky 3% surcharge on every order to "help offset the cost of rising wages and benefits". Just raise your prices and offer quality food. If you want to visit a cardiologist, this is the place to eat. Otherwise, go elsewhere. I think I'm done with this place.

Yelp
Had the steak with chimichurri at Urban Plates and it was full of flavor--perfectly cooked and seasoned just right. The chimichurri added a fresh, zesty kick that brought the whole dish together. Definitely coming back for this one!

Yelp
Not nowhere near what it used to be. No longer tasty and limited menu. Super salty food and not very well presented.

Yelp
I had the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. It was bronto sized with a spicy bbq sauce that is unique and tangy. Extra pickles next time.

Yelp
This restaurant offers large, quality food offerings in a casual, yet sophisticated environment. The vegetable selection is plentiful. I ordered the braised beef with mushroom bowl and found it very satisfying and generously portioned. Staff was courteous and attentive, especially Lizzy who checked who made sure our visit was a happy one. We will return there soon.

Yelp
First time trying Urban Plates. I got a Steak Sandwich and Upgraded to French Fries. I also added the Garlic Shrimp for $5 more. The Steak on the Sandwich was so well Marinated and Seasoned! The Sandwich was on the smaller side for the price, but still very good. The Shrimp ended up in the Sandwich for a little Surf and Turf action. . I seemed to have waited a really long time for Fries, at least that's what I was told. I don't understand because by the time I opened the Bag in my car the Fries were Ice Cold. I don't get it. I would have liked a little more meat in the sandwich but with the Shrimp it was perfect. Y'allhollaatchaboy!

Yelp
One can prefer from the counter or online at the table. We ordered online and put in our table number. The waitress brought the drink and food to table. Service was fast, except that we had to grab utensils ourselves. Food portion is just right. Food is fresh, tasty, and had a nice presentation!

Yelp
We were pretty excited to try this place out when we saw their menu. If you order a plate, you can choose which protein you'd like, together with two side dishes. They had a wide variety of these to choose from, so we decided to check it out. What we tried: Grilled Grass Fed Steak with Roasted Mushrooms and Mashed Organic Potatoes - the steak they served me was beyond well done. The slices were so dry and cold, it looked quite unappetizing, like they were leftover slices from other steaks. Mind you, the description of the dish on their menu was "our signature spice rubbed, grass-fed and grass-finished steak, grilled medium rare", and the lady at the counter never asked us if we wanted our steak cooked differently. Nevertheless, they ended up bringing us a small plate with slices of a "more properly cooked" steak. The mashed potatoes were very bland and cold as well. It felt like everything on my plate was prepared a good half hour or so before we even placed our order. The mushrooms were the only saving grace of the dish. Everything else on this plate was barely seasoned, if any, and just served cold. Chimichurri Grass Fed Steak with Roasted Mushrooms and Mashed Organic Potatoes - the steak on this dish was cooked closer to the medium rare they promised on their menu, and the chimichurri was pretty tasty--it made the bite more palatable and enjoyable. Grilled Sustainable Salmon with Basmati Rice Pilaf and Macaroni & Cheese - the salmon was perfectly cooked, in my opinion; however, it was barely seasoned--again--but the sauce it came with made it pretty delicious. The mac & cheese was alright, nothing to write home about. The rice pilaf though... it was as dry as the Sahara Desert. It was pretty unpleasant to eat that it barely got touched. Unfortunately, the service was mediocre as well. It took our order about 20 minutes or so to arrive, only to be served cold. The lady at the counter wasn't very friendly and looked like she was done for the day too--we were there late afternoon on a Saturday. I guess we're good that we tried the place once. I don't think we'll be back after this experience.
