The Best Boba Shops in Cupertino, San Jose, and the South Bay | Eater SF

"Urban Ritual made its way south after its original SF location drew large crowds from all over the Bay. Not only can visitors create their own drinks with selections of base teas, milk options, sweetness levels, and toppings, but the specialty drinks push the boundaries of what a boba drink can be. The Crème Brûlée drink embraces Urban Ritual’s creative approach: After Crème Brûlée is baked via traditional techniques, it’s then infused into a classic milk drink with honey boba and torched raw sugar — which creates a unique mix of velvety and crumbly textures." - Cathy Park

Google
Really good boba, nice squishy texture. The inside is pretty cute but small. The drinks weren't absolutely insanely delicious, but they were quite expensive. Overall it was good, but pricey!

Google
I've come here a couple of times and the drinks are always really good! Their fruit drinks are great for a warm summer day and their boba milk tea is always a solid choice. Only weird thing was this creature that kept moving my drink when it thought I wasn't looking.

Had taro and coconut drink from this shop for the first time. Very impressed by the high quality of the ingredients and taste that's not too sweet. Excellent and will revisit 👍

Google
Enjoyed trying this new place in San Mateo, and apparently the matcha toffee is quite popular but I ended up trying the special house milk tea with oat milk. It’s pretty good. Tastes like Thai iced tea. I’ll have to try the most popular flavor next time.

Google
This boba tea place is one of the many tea places that our team rotate weekly at work, such as today. I've also been here several times with my family when we're in the area. They have very creative and great boba tea drinks, ie, creme brulee (with and without the tea), matcha toffee, guava pastelitos, etc. I had their Jasmine milk tea w/boba this time. It definitely satisfied my taste buds, well balanced with milk and tea, and the boba was just right. I've tried their 3 locations but only the SF once a long time ago. Between the SJ and here, this location is better. This would be my top 5 boba tea places.

Google
I had the chrysanthemum tea with macadamia nut milk and crystal boba, it's an acquired taste as I would prefer the tea plain, simple and hot - now I know, 😂. Otherwise, they have cool boba tea concoctions and unique milk selections like sesame, rice, macadamia nut and oat. I would go back to try the other teas.

Amiñya M.

Google
Ordered the milk tea and matcha without toffee (to make it vegan) and oat milk which came out very fast! The milk tea tastes a bit more bitter than preferred. The matcha tasted nice but it had more water mixed than I would prefer but still tasted good.

Google
Feed me ube & black sesame rice ball are my favorite drinks here

Yelp
Our to go milk tea shop in san mateo, very consistent eversince, can't say anything bad, ordered milk tea here for more than 50 times i believe haha! Will always be coming back,. I highly recommend their crème brûlée and feed me ube!

Yelp
Urban Ritual in San Mateo is a small, low-key shop that does boba really well. The menu is a bit limited for my taste, but everyone I've brought here ends up loving it :) So I just keep bringing people here (haha) Their strawberry matcha drinks is probably their most aesthetic drink, but their standard milk tea is super solid too. The boba itself is the real standout - perfectly chewy and consistently good. I went with the mango to try more of the menu this time, and the mango is sweetened but still good - and more of the "American" mango (as expected) Simple spot, great drinks, and easy to come back to.

Yelp
One of the boba shop I visit at Downtown San Mateo. It has some special drink which you cannot find at other like boba shop like white grape yuzu. It also have limited time special drink. The shop is not that big but it has sitting area. The ordering is via 2 small touch screen. The drink usually ready pretty fast. I like the the white grape yuzu. It is very refreshing.

Yelp
This spot has been my go to boba spot ever since I moved to San Mateo. The boba here is fresh and you have the option of customizing your drinks with the selected kiosk options and the comments section. The staff always serves my drinks with a smile, enhancing my overall experience. So far I've tried the POG, Matcha Toffee, Feed me Ube, Crème Brûlée, Crème Brûlée Milk Tea, and Clarified Ube Lemonade. If I had to pick three, I would probably go with the Matcha Toffee, Crème brûlée milk tea and the POG. The matcha toffee I would recommend having a spoon nearby for the surprise once you finish the drink. The matcha itself is pretty good. The crème brûlée milk tea has good flavor and tastes good with or without boba. If you're feeling adventurous, I would recommend trying it with the Ube crème brûlée. The POG is one of their best fruit drinks in my opinion. They have a couple of others but this one is the best out of the ones I remember trying. They also have a seating area and a bathroom in the back so if you wanted to come in and get some work done, that is definitely an option. Overall great boba spot and I will be returning!

Yelp
I love how creative the drinks are and how diverse the menu is. I've tried most items on the menu and they've all been pretty good and adventurous! For today, we got a diverse set of drinks: Feed Me Ube w/boba, House Milk Tea, and the Lemon Tea. 1) Feed me Ube: 4/5. This is one of my staple drinks here. I love how they use actual ube and taro paste instead of the powder mix. The powdery taro or ube drinks are always artificial and have a weird texture to me, so I appreciate the fresh ingredients! However, the boba this time was a bit softer than I would've liked. Other times, the boba texture could be good. I wish there was more consistency in their boba. 2) House Milk Tea: 5/5. I'm always impressed when a boba milk tea actually has the tea flavor, and this drink is definitely one of them! I requested for 30% sweetness, and it was exactly as expected, so thank you for that! 3) Lemon Tea: 5/5. I wanted something a bit lighter and refreshing compared to the other two drinks and this really met my expectations. As described, it is reminiscent of a lemon tea you'd get from a Hong Kong cafe. I ordered less sweet, and it was just perfect! Again, tea forward drink, not watered down. Overall, good drinks, with perfect sweetness, even with adjustments! The boba shop itself only has a few tables inside. I typically get it to-go and sip on it as I walk around downtown.

Yelp
As you can tell by the number of drinks I've ordered, Urban Ritual is one of my preferred boba places in San Mateo downtown, land of the boba shops. They are good for their high quality ingredients, tea strength, and sophisticated flavors. That's right, sophisticated flavors. Because who else makes pairings like matcha and toffee, white grape and yuzu, or lychee IPA? They also usually have three or more rotating seasonal flavors, and their original location is in San Francisco. My main gripes are that sometimes my tea strength is not consistently strong, and the flavors are very limited. They have a lot more caffeine-free drinks in their selection, but I mainly want tea, and wish I can order some of their caffeine-free drinks with a tea base. The lack of tea strength was especially present the last time I ordered the house milk tea, which should taste great; instead, it tasted like a watered-down basic milk tea. Their popular drink, the creme brulee milk tea, is their black milk tea with a custard dollop and a side of burnt sugar. I'm not into that, but to each their own. I like their fruit teas a lot more, especially since they use fresh fruit purees and pulp. I also really like their seasonal genmaicha and mango sticky rice, which literally tastes like that in smooth liquid form. Their boba is usually good and chewy, yet bouncy. I tried their drinkable mochi and they didn't get the texture right, as it was sandy and disintegrated. They have a mini dessert called the baby brulee, which is basically a mini creme brulee (custard pudding) filled with boba, and torched sugar on top. It's actually pretty delicious with just the right amount of sweetness! Anyways, if you consider yourself to have a "refined" taste for drinks, this is probably your best bet. If you're a basic boba bitch, then probably not (not a bad thing). I usually hover somewhere in the middle.

Yelp
Came here about an hour before closing to grab some drinks and chat with some friends. They only have a couple of tables indoors. You can order at the kiosk or at the counter and your drink comes out a few minutes later at the bar. I got their mango sticky rice drink with less sugar and it did actually contain all the flavors that you would expect to get taking a bite of the real dessert. Was told the matcha toffee is also a good drink to try next time, but the toffee ends up getting really sticky and becomes a solid ball at the bottom of your drink if you don't drink it fast enough.
google avatar

Kate X.

Yelp
Feed me ube & black sesame rice ball are my favorite drinks to get here. The line moves quickly and the drinks are also prepared quickly as well. There are some tables inside if you want to sit and chill for a bit

Yelp
My favorite bubble tea spot! They even have a location in San Francisco, but I personally prefer this one. Their classic Hong Kong Milk Tea is a must-try, though I also highly recommend trying their seasonal drinks. Seasonal offerings vary by location, so it's always a fun surprise. One thing I really appreciated about this location is that they offer tea tastings--something the San Francisco store doesn't do. Plus, the staff here feels more friendly and welcoming. I usually visit in the night, so it's nice and quiet. There's seating inside, but there are also benches outside, making it perfect for some relaxed outdoor chilling. If you're a bubble tea lover, don't miss the Urban Ritual Honey Pearls--chewy and delicious, I genuinely don't think any other store can top them. My personal favorites: *Hong Kong Milk Tea *Lychee IPA P.S. My favorite spicy mala soup spot is just around the corner--trust me, cooling down with some bubble tea afterward is non-negotiable!

Yelp
Quality/Quantity - My daughter's favorite boba place. We go OUT of our way to visit all your locations. Today we got the following: 2 Jasmine Milk Tea Hong Kong Milk Tea Again, my daughter's favorite, so all good. Atmosphere - Small to-go only business. Limited street parking. We walked over after dinner. Open 7 days a week from 11am to 10pm or 11pm. Service - Self service kiosk. Counter service. Price - $22 for 3 drinks. The going rate these days. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 2018 and with your 3 locations. We are regular customers at all 3 locations.

Yelp
Black sesame was extremely THICK! I could not drink it! My solution was let it sit in refrigerator and successfully drink the beverage many hours later. Not fun, felt like I may have choked. Mango sticky rice was very watery. Service was professional. Cozy seating area.
google avatar

Terrysue T.

Yelp
Came in on a weeknight and the place was empty. My friend and I ordered our drinks at the kiosks. The drinks came out super fast. Within minutes of placing our orders! I ordered the Mango Sticky Rice drink and it was good! The drink name kind of threw me off, and half-way into drinking it, wished there was actual sticky rice inside. The drink wasn't supposed to come with it, but if it had, it would've been an even better drink.
google avatar

Janey L.

Yelp
Cravings always hit the spot with their crème brûlée pudding! Jasmine milk tea with brûlée pudding, ube with brûlée pudding. EVERYTHING BRÛLÉE PUDDING!!!!! Waiting time can be a bit long for just 2 drinks (not sure why), so order online ahead of time.
google avatar

Disha K.

Yelp
love love this place! My to go spot when I am in SF. Majority of all their drinks are good. I tried the sticky rice drink and it was a no go for me. It did not taste good, too sour and barely had any taste to it. Will i go there again? 100% i love Urban Ritual!
google avatar

Bevan C.

Yelp
I've heard lots of great things about the place, and glad I checked it out! Lots of unique combinations to choose from. I went with the Matcha Toffee, Fifty Sweet, Lite Ice, with Honey Boba and Oat Milk. This drink is phenomenal! Love the strength of the matcha, and pairs really well with the toffee bits. It creates a nice crunch in the tea, like cereal. The boba was cooked perfectly, and had a strong honey flavor. Also, perfect amount of sweetness and creaminess. I love this place, and will be back soon! 10/10
google avatar

Lanya L.

Yelp
I got the black sesame rice ball, perfect pear, white grape yuzu, and chrysanthemum tea. The black sesame was a 4/10 The mochi was really good, but the drink itself was very watery. The chrysanthemum was very strong, so would only recommend if you really like flowery drinks. The perfect pear was great, really just tasted like if you juiced a pear! Very refreshing! The white grape yuzu was very disappointing and had pieces of yuzu in it which I didn't love. The flavor also was not great.
google avatar

Priscilla F.

Yelp
The service is quick and efficient. The drink is very bad..... ordered the yuzu with white peach oolong tea. Less sugar. The yuzu syrup is really sweet. The mixture of yuzu with peach oolong is not that match. Will not be back

Yelp
For a while there, I used to hear my friends talk about Urban Ritual in SF more than a little fondly. Despite all of that praise, though, I have to admit that I never managed to make my way to their location to try them. So, of course it makes perfect sense that my first time trying them (as well as the next two...) happened to come at this location in San Mateo instead! What can I say? I guess my boba-crazed friend was right whenever she would say that the mood for boba and milk tea always hits harder when we're not in The City. Like nearly every other milk tea shop in the neighborhood, Urban Ritual is fairly small in stature (although, they they manage to squeeze in a few tables). Yet, unlike so many of their nearby competitors, the menu here is legitimately one of the most unique I've seen. Even Teaspoon, which is a (past) favorite that has a for more interesting menu than the likes of TP Tea, can't compare. At a glance, the collection of drinks here may not seem very extensive, but there's a good amount of creations to choose from that all sound terrific. They also have the option for you to create/customize your own "basic" milk tea, but it'd be a shame not to try something different, like their Black Sesame Rice Ball, Matcha Toffee, Mango Sticky Rice, or Strawberry Pandan Corn Milk! -- BLACK SESAME RICE BALL - Drinkable Mochi, Black Sesame, Rice Milk...$6.50 All of their drinks looked great, but this one stood out the most! The "drinkable mochi" is exactly - almost like a gooey pudding, but gloppy and with a slight chew. It also served as a nice contrast against the black sesame and rice milk, which wasn't exactly creamy, but had a nice thickness and nuttiness to it. -- MATCHA TOFFEE - Matcha Green Tea with Classic Milk and Bite-Sized House Made Toffee Brittle...$6.75 While I liked all three of the drinks that I tried, this just might have been my favorite. It wasn't intensely sweet like I had feared it would be (save for the sips with a bunch of the brittle) yet there was still enough buttery sweetness to add a richness to the otherwise classic sort of matcha latte flavor. -- RICE RICE BABY - Genmaicha Green Tea with Rice Milk Topped with Toasted Rice...$6.50 I wasn't sure what to expect with this one, but it was pretty solid! Not only did the toasted rice add a nice crunch, but it also reinforced the roasted element in the tea's flavor, too. As for the green tea and rice milk, it was something akin to a matcha latte, but not as sweet nor with as much body. Inevitably, at some point, another new, shiny sort of boba shop will open up and join the many existing options around 3rd Ave. However, unless they find a way to improve on what Urban Ritual does and/or offer something similar, but better, I can't imagine this place not ranking among my absolute favorites anywhere. That is, unless the one in SF turns out to be better!
google avatar

Jasmin C.

Yelp
My favorite boba place messed up my order :( I ordered a crème brûlée milk tea, sub regular milk for soy milk for extra fee, and they didn't add any milk or soy milk at all. It was just a crème brûlée tea, not milk tea. Tea was very bitter and watery. Toasted sugar bits were also burnt and bitter. Crème brûlée itself and boba was very soft and chewy.
google avatar

Karen C.

Yelp
Urban Ritual is one of my fave spots in SF and their quality holds up at their San Mateo location as well! I love trying their seasonal drinks - this time it's a strawberry pandan corn milk - and highly recommend their matcha. The drinks always come out quickly and there are two tablets for people to place their orders. All of the staff seem busy making drinks so there wasn't someone at the register, although you can see all of them working behidn the counter so I'm sure they'd be able to answer questions. I do wish this location were cleaner. The tablets have always felt grimy when I've used them and there isn't a great place to wait for your drink to come out. There's a narrow hallway in front of the counter but it gets crowded quickly. There are seats inside, but I recommend taking your drink to go anyway for these reasons. Overall, love the drinks!
google avatar

Maggie Y.

Yelp
I tried Urban Ritual once at the SF Hayes Valley location. I remember the Creme Brûlée milk tea was super sweet. This time, we ordered the Matcha Toffee with oat milk, 50% sweet, lite ice and White Grape Oolong, 50% sweet, lite ice. The Matcha Toffee is really good but the White Grape Oolong is so bland. I love fruity teas so I ordered this one but it tastes like more tea than fruit. Usually I'd ask if they'd remake it into a different drink but today I'm feeling shy lol.
google avatar

Ines F.

Yelp
All I can say is the crème brûlée is amazing! The little pieces of torched sugar combined with the crème brûlée and the boba are so satisfying after a nice dinner. We actually went to Urban Ritual for dessert. My husband got the matcha toffee boba--again. He's not very adventurous, so I chose for him (lol), and once again, he was not disappointed. There's always a line, so if you can, order ahead. Seating inside is very limited, so we decided to sit outdoors in one of the patio areas. This location is on a closed-off street, which makes it really nice to enjoy outside
google avatar

Annie Y.

Yelp
There is only street parking. They have kiosks to order your drinks. I ordered the Mango Sticky Rice and it was okay. The drink was a bit bland to me, nothing special. I wouldn't get this drink again though. But I'd try other drinks. Recommendation(s): - None Service: 5/5 Tip(s): - No restrooms available - Kiosks to self-order - Accept Apple Pay - Indoor seating available - Street parking
google avatar

Li Y.

Yelp
Have come to know Urban Ritual, first in the Hayes in San Francisco. Am beyond thrilled to find them closer to me in downtown San Mateo. Love that when one asks for less sweet the drink is... less sweet. In fact, even the fully sweetened drinks tend to be less sweet than other places. Love the ease of ordering at self ordering station and how easy it is to navigate the system. Love love the Asian inspired selections as well as the milk alternative and add-on choices. Parking is a slight issue as only street metered parking or in the Caltrain station or other parking lots. I hate to pay for parking when just jumping out to get a drink. Best to take a friend to jump out while driver waits on the car. Otherwise, street metered parking easily found. And I think the last time I only paid... 75 cents to park? Will I be back? You bet your matcha I will!
google avatar

Irene C.

Yelp
One of my favorite boba shops - I think the boba at the Hayes Valley location is cooked a little more consistently, but the drinks here are still great and I love stopping by when I'm in the area. My favorite is the creme brulee, the milk and pudding and boba pair well together, and I love the little pieces of torched sugar. The strawberry milk bar is also good, but it was a bit watered down the most recent time I got it here - hoping it was just a fluke though. Urban Ritual is super conveniently located on the same street as a bunch of other restaurants in San Mateo so I usually stop by after lunch or dinner. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and will offer recommendations if it's your first time.
google avatar

Kim l.

Yelp
Wanted to try the strawberry pandan corn milk but they couldn't adjust sweetness for thar drink. Ended up getting the perfect pear. I got it less sweet and turned out to be pretty bland. Hubby's milk tea was ok and just lukewarm instead of hot.
google avatar

Kimberly N.

Yelp
I would say this place is more like a dessert shop than boba shop simply because all of their signature drinks are extremely sweet. The crème brûlée has always been my favorite however I tried a new drink yesterday. It's a strawberry pandan corn milk (oat milk) and it was delicious. This place doesn't do any adjustments to menu items, but they have great options available. Service was friendly and they have a bunch of small tables and seating inside.
google avatar

Priscilla W.

Yelp
Urban Ritual has good milk teas, refreshing and not too sweet at the 50% sugar level. Order via tablet and pickup drinks from the counter. The service is quick and friendly, where they actually greet you. Cute cups with play on words such as "I knew you were the perfect matcha all oolong". Ambiance is ok with a few tables, but really more or a grab and go place. Definitely part of my regular drink shops in San Mateo area.
google avatar

Anna T.

Yelp
Drink 5/5 My go-to place when I'm craving crème brûlée boba! The drink comes with real crème brûlée and torched sugar so you get the perfect sip. The white grape oolong was very refreshing. I have heard that the sj location doesn't make their drinks as good, but the San Mateo location does not disappoint! Service 5/5 There are two self ordering kiosks inside the store and also their online ordering system for ordering ahead. Drinks come out in a timely manner and the tables are kept clean. Ambiance 5/5 Nothing to complain about, although the store isn't very big, there are at least 4 tables for people to sit down and enjoy.
google avatar

Alyssa C.

Yelp
We ordered a matcha latte (7/10), strawberry milk bar (7/10), matcha toffee (7.5/10) and a creme brûlée drink (2/10). The service was not anything special but they did offer a bag which was nice. The ambiance was smaller and darker than expected. It's a narrow space. I'm making this review in hopes that there would be a warning that the pieces of sugar in the creme brûlée drink is announced as torched sugar online. Every sip tastes of burnt sugar which ruins the drink, I did not expect a creme brûlée drink to taste bitter.
google avatar

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
This Urban Ritual location is in a pretty busy part of downtown San Mateo. Parking is hit or miss here on weeknights and weekends - on my last visit, I had to park a couple of blocks away and walk over. Not much service, ordering is through the kiosk and the employees did not seem like they wanted to be there either just by their demeanor when customers walked in. I actually was at SomiSomi next door and came over while waiting for my order there. I decided to get my usual jasmine milk tea with boba from here. I usually do enjoy my milk tea from here because of the creaminess, but I was met with a cup of bitterness instead, which surprised me (even after mixing it pretty well). Boba texture was a bit melty and on the chewier side, which was a miss for me.
google avatar

Adam G.

Yelp
Ube was pretty damn good. Mango sticky rice with the matcha was mid! But it was cool that they were able to make it for us. Not on the menu Pretty small space in side but other than that pretty cool spot.
google avatar

Katelyn K.

Yelp
My friends said Urban Ritual is a great choice in this area. We stopped by and ordered a few drinks: Hong kong milk tea Feed me ube Strawberry milk bar They have really interesting names for their drinks! How creative of them. For me, I thought the drinks aren't too sweet. Staffs are friendly and helpful. I'd love to stop by again and try other drinks on the menu.
google avatar

Anna A.

Yelp
Urban ritual is one of my top 3 choices for Boba in the bay and is perfect for a sweet treat that's not too sweet! I always order the Creme brûlée Milk Tea with the sugar on the side (boba is included). The milk tea is not sweetened as they acknowledge the add-ins are sweet. I'm not a fan of boba pearls but urban ritual always has the perfect texture and sweetness down. The creme brûlée pudding is silky and melts in your mouth. I always ask for the sugar on the side as I only use a little pinch but it adds the perfect caramel crunch!
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
Service was quick. Seating limited. Strawberry pandan and corn milk boba tasted exactly as described. Crème brûlée milk tea was perfect sweetness (not sickeningly sweet as one may think), with wonderfully creamy pudding and shards of burnt sugar. Very delicious. Only downside is the Boba was a bit on the soft side.
google avatar

Carine B.

Yelp
Small little shop that has rotating seasonal drinks as well as some classics. The quality of their drinks is good, but they tend to have very sweet drinks (specials). The staff is friendly, but all of the items are ordered via kiosk. The only reason I knocked it down a star is because I would prefer that option to do customization with the specials.
google avatar

Desiree Ann Z.

Yelp
If you're someone like me who loves toffee, please try the matcha toffee boba! You get that crunchiness and chewiness in one drink. If I lived closer, I would get it all the time. I'm rating it 3/5 because from my first experience, I got some other drink and it wasn't good. It was so bitter and I ended up just tossing it. I didn't get a pic of the first drink I tried. I wish I remembered what I got, but if it comes back to me, I'll update my review. Another thing, the place was just soo small. We were a group of like 7. We had nowhere to sit and it was raining outside. So some of us were inside and some were outside. I wish it was more spacious so we could hangout there together a bit longer. I'll def come back again soon for more matcha toffee though!
google avatar

Alden C.

Yelp
Urban Ritual is a great boba spot in downtown San Mateo. To me it stands above the rest of the competition with their unique menu. Service is solid too. I've been going to this location throughout the years and my favorite is easily the Creme Brûlée milk especially when I don't want caffeine. I'm also glad they ditched the paper cups because they were just not photogenic and they also would fall apart after having your drink sit for a while. Recently I tried their new seasonal drinks, the Sweater Weather ($5.75). 50 cents more with oatmilk which is a must for my stomach. The Sweater Weather is basically their name for an Hojicha. I don't know why it's called that, but it is good. They also sprinkle some Dattan Sobacha on top which makes a nice texture when you mix your drink. Definitely recommend drinking it as quickly as possible because it does not sit well for long periods of time. This spot will always continue to be one of my main go-to options for boba in the area.
google avatar

Whitney L.

Yelp
After dinner, my sister and I wanted something sweet to cap off our meal so we found Urban Ritual on Yelp. The location is great - located on B Street, next to a ton of shops, and the roads were closed off, making it a great place to stroll around. We stopped by for a quick drink and I was so excited to see the unique options on the menu. I ended up getting the strawberry milk bar, which is made with classic milk and their housemade strawberry syrup. It tasted just like a strawberry cream paletas - so refreshing! Can't wait to go back to try out their other drinks, I'm particularly curious about their mango sticky rice drink and their white grape yuzu.
google avatar

Allyson L.

Yelp
One of my favorite boba shops in the bay area! I love their creme brulee milk tea. It's so creamy and milky but not too overpowering. The boba texture is just right. Always my go to when I order at Urban Ritual. A must try if you love creme brulee like me. It's also a pretty good size for the drink too.
google avatar

Mikayla S.

Yelp
I love that they have the Togo boba pouches so I can take it home and have boba for the next day as well and the drinks are always good!
google avatar

Vania B.

Yelp
Don't no why I never ordered the "Feed Me Ube" until now, because wow it is amazing! Normally I don't order ube drinks because they're too sweet, too thick, or both. And I love the matcha toffee here, so that's my go-to. But this drink had great ube flavor without being overly sweet or thick! Also love the creme brulee and taro chunk toppings which make it even more unique and really add to the overall taste and texture profile. Highly recommend this one! As for this location, it has always been small with limited seating. But it's in downtown San Mateo, so you can take a nice stroll around the area as you enjoy your boba! Service is quick here. Now, you order your drink from the kiosk instead of at the register with a cashier.

Yelp
When I come to downtown San Mateo, I usually like to stop at urban ritual! My favorite is the matcha toffee! The crunch from the toffee adds such a fun texture. I also like that you can actually taste the matcha and it's not overly sweet. We ordered through a kiosk and it came out pretty fast. Limited seating outside, but it's on the closed street with a couple of outdoor tables.

Yelp
Tried the seasonal hojicha crème brûlée. It was delicious. Always a fan of their seasonal drinks and will be back

Yelp
Great place to catchup with friends when you don't wanna spend an arm and leg on dinner in SF. I love the fact that they have a seasonal menu so you never get bored of the same drink. It's also a great place to work if you just need wifi for a couple hours but they don't have a restroom so you probably can't stay for too long. I've tried a few things, some of which are good and some of which are misses. Prices are very reasonable for SF. Drinks I like, including seasonals black sesame rice ball, Rice rice baby, Thai milk tea, Feed me ube, I'm so jelly (black sesame w rice milk and osmanthus tea jelly), Matcha toffee, Hong Kong milk tea, Creme brûlée. Misses: Tofu ha: did not taste like the dessert tbh. Had too much of the ginger, and the type of ginger also tasted different. Mango sticky rice: also didn't taste at all like the dessert. Felt more like sour mango doused with rice milk. Plus, the workers here are really nice. One time I wanted to just have a bit more sugar to add to the drink and they just offered to remake it for me.

Yelp
No more cute cups! Company decided to take a environmental, friendly approach and use compostable material to serve clients, good for them! I love their jasmine and earl grey, can't go wrong with either choice.

Yelp
Every hot pot meal must be followed by boba! No matter how cold it is. Had dinner at a hot pot restaurant nearby and decided to stop by Urban Ritual for dessert. Urban Ritual's space is small. There's a few tables, but it's really designed for to-go orders. The staff was friendly and helpful. I asked a few questions, and they were patient with me. I ordered the creme brulee milk tea, and my son ordered the Thai tea. Both drinks were great and satisfied our craving. If I get a chance to come back, I would love to try the matcha toffee!

Yelp
Inflation hit and a speciality boba drink is about $8. It's a special treat to enjoy a quality and delicious drink. The matcha toffee with boba and pudding with 0% sweetness is my go-to order. The zero percent level of sugar is perfect because the boba and pudding has sugar in it. It's a nice balance and no flavor is overbearing!

Yelp
A TOP BOBA PLACE! Urban ritual is always consistent in their drinks. My go-to is always the Matcha Toffee with boba and slightly less sweet! I always have a hard time pacing myself to not drink it all at once! I also tried my sisters drink, Earl Grey Milk tea with Macadamia nut milk (a cool milk alternative option they have!) and I enjoyed hers too! We order at the kiosk, which is good for my anti-social sister and my indecisive mother, and our drinks came out pretty quick. They also offer to prepare your drink in your reusable cup or their borrow a reusable cup program. Super cool! This store is in the middle of downtown so there's a lot to walk around and look at with your drink! Parking is usually metered unless you come after 6pm or on a Sunday.
