Anti-Small Talk Restaurant in Shoreditch Creates Cheese-Pulling World Championships | Eater London

"A Tottenham-based cheesemonger partnering on a biweekly event series called Fromage à Trois Cheese Night!, supplying and staging novelty cheese-stretching demonstrations and participatory 'cheese pulls.' The collaboration anticipates roughly 11 kg of cheese stretched per night, keeps over 50 kg in reserve for demand, and has reported pulls reaching up to two metres, positioning the events as theatrical, high-energy tasting experiences." - Adam Coghlan

Google
I was looking for a local charcuterie board shop in Cincinnati when I came across this lovely place. I ordered the triple for our Thanksgiving celebration. It was a huge hit! Everything was delicious. I would highly recommend this shop for your next get together.

Marsha B.

Google
Ordered two of the largest charcuterie boards for a pre-wedding party! They were loaded with so many great items, very tasty cheeses and there was not a piece left! Easy to order and work with Andrea and her team! Definitely ordering again!

Heather R.

Google
Urban Stead is fabulous. My friends and I came and split the Ultimate Motherboard since we wanted to try all the cheeses. Everyone was friendly and more than happy to answer our questions. The cheeses are all amazing and so are the drinks! Give them a try, it's well worth it!

Google
This was my 1st time ordering from Urban Stead Cheese. I used their website and I thought it was very user friendly and easy to navigate. I ordered two charcuterie trays for back to back gatherings and they were delicious! They provide the perfect portions and don't skimp on anything. I love that they will bring your order out to the car if you request it. Overall if you're in search for a great charcuterie board for an event at a fair price, this is your place!

Google
I can’t scream this any louder - I LOVE URBAN STEAD CHEESE! Their Street Ched is my favorite but I will devour any they make. Their cheese is so creamy and rich! I ordered their charcuterie board for Christmas and everyone loved it! I will be back again and again!

Google
Really wonderful neighborhood spot! The owners take special care to curate the perfect cheese selection (that they make in-house) and wines which will all pair perfectly with anything you choose on the menu. The ambiance feel more like a cafeteria than a fancy wine and cheese bar, but I love it. Big tables are great for groups and you can see the cheese room where all the magic happens. Highly recommend!

Google
I really had a good time here. The bar atmosphere was great; there was a good beer selection, and these guys really know cheese - they make lots of it here and it is fantastic. Urban Stead is an easy walk from Madison Road, located on Woodburn (behind Saint Francis DeSales) and there is plenty of safe, free parking behind. Everything here is great except for one lady. Very difficult to deal with her. She needs to be sent to charm school, or kept in the back making cheeses. Everything is a fight with her. You’ll know what I mean when you speak with her Just have patience and remember that anger comes from hurt. Their cheese is worth the abuse you may receive. Oh ya - the cheese curds are phenomenal.

Google
Best value in Cincinnati! I ordered a charcuterie board for an event that turned out to be the perfect spread for about 20 people. As a non- profit entity, we are careful with our funds and felt we got a lot of food for a reasonable rate.

Yelp
Went here with a group of friends before a soccer match & we can't stop talking about it!! We ordered the motherboard - if you have more than three people in your party: just do it!! They do an amazing job of pairing all the "extras" on the board with the cheeses so you have a true culinary experience. So excited they sell their product locally (I'm in Columbus OH) at both Littletons & Weilands - I will be making weekly purchases!

Yelp
We had their cheese at a tasting a year ago, and really enjoyed it so when my birthday came around this year, I thought going to Urban Stead would be a fun outing with my husband, adult daughter, and her boyfriend. I was right! The owner, Andrea was very helpful with wine and cheese selections. Four of us shared the Mother Board and we didn't leave a crumb! It was a lot of fun tasting one cheese at a time, discussing it, then moving on to the next. Because we ate it in a sort of interactive way, we were there for a relaxed 1.5 hours, enjoying our cheese and wine. All of them were delicious, but I think I liked the Tomme d'Evanston and the Quark with Honey & Blueberries the best. You can't go wrong with Street Ched or their Gouda either.

Yelp
If you haven't been here yet, don't wait any longer! You'll find flavorful and wonderfully made cheese (so awesome that it's made on location), friendly and knowledgeable staff, and honestly one of the best charcuterie boards I've ever eaten - the variety on the board was hard to beat, with the selection of cheese, nuts, fruit, pickled veggies, and meat (if you choose to add it). Also, don't skip the cheese curds.. or order them to go! So glad to have this gem in our backyard of Cincinnati! Tip - the cheddar is a great wedding goodie bag treat :)

Yelp
We have been wanting to check Urban Stead Cheese out for awhile, and it has surpassed all of our expectations. The interior is clean and modern with the bar and cheese case on the right, plenty of seating indoors. You can see the endless cheese wheels aging on shelves through large windows along the back and left walls. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Our server spent time explaining their different cheese offerings and gave great recommendations. We opted for cheeseboard with charcuterie: Gouda, Cheddar, and Brie. The board was beautifully presented, and I felt the prices was more than fair for the value. The cheddar was the best I've ever had - nutty, complex, pungent. The Gouda and Brie were fantastic as well. I'm glad we got the charcuterie because it worked really well with their cheeses. This place is the real deal. Their passion for cheese is clearly evident in how the staff talk about their cheeses and the menu that they present. They are closed most of the week to focus on their craft, which is probably for the better since we would otherwise be there every day. Check them out!

Yelp
Space consists of many tables and a bar area, the cheese room is visible with racks and racks of cheese. Good wine pairing and NA options, split a motherboard and was impressed! We had two of the 'award winning' cheeses. Would come back for celebratory event.

Michael P.

Yelp
The service was fantastic, and the charcuterie was amazing! Since they make cheese, I think they could have offered a few larger cheese portions on the board. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the wine selection. We tried a Greek wine that paired perfectly with our board.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! It's one of our favorite date night spots in Cincinnati and it's where we chose to go on our last night before we moved across the country. The boards here are our favorite (we only have two in Cincy that we absolutely love). Let's start with the cheese - it's award winning for a reason. It's fresh and it's always incredible. Our usual order for the two of us is the Cheeseboard with street ched, aged gouda, and seasonal quark (don't sleep on the seasonal quark!). We also add charcuterie which is always delicious. The additional items on the board (nuts, jam, pickled veggies, fruit, etc.) are also delicious. When I tell you we leave nothing behind, I mean NOTHING. The drinks have also never disappointed. They have beer, wine, and cocktails so there's always been something to match our vibe for the night. The service and ambiance won us over immediately too. We've always had wonderful service there. The owners and staff are knowledgeable, kind, and helpful. And the space is the perfect in between depending on what you want for the night. It's casual enough that we can go sit at the bar and watch the game on a whim and nice enough that we can get cute and have a romantic night out. I've also seen a lot of group gatherings there, from ladies night to professional networking. I've sadly never taken a picture of our board when dining in but I did take one of a board that I ordered to-go and it was just as delicious and (surprisingly) beautiful as always. Obviously, I highly recommend Urban Stead.

Yelp
Love, love, loved! If you like charcuterie then this is definitely your spot. We stopped here after a day out shopping at an art event and my friend and I shared the Ultimate Mother Board! It was a bit much for two people but we loved it. We also added the Smoked Salmon with Sweet and Spicy Zhong. We had a couple of cocktails that were nice as well. My hubby took the leftovers for lunch the next day but I would certainly entertain getting this again as you get to try all 8 of their cheeses. Inside was nice and clean and there were windows where you can see the wheels of cheese aging. In the front near the door there is a gift shop that had a good variety of gourmet foods, sweatshirts, breads, etc. Looking forward to my next trip here.

Yelp
I made my first trip the Urban Stead Cheese to get a few cheeses to have on Mother's Day with my family. The staff was very helpful and my order was put together in less than the 20 minutes they had estimated. Though I couldn't tell exactly which cheese was which when we ate them, I'm pretty sure the one I loved the most was Quark with honey and blueberries. It was so soft I thought it might have been butter. I also enjoyed what I believe was the Tomme d'Evanston, as it has a nutty flavor that is one of my favorite kinds of cheese. Worth the drive from nky!!

Yelp
Ok. I have a tradition. Whenever I pick up my to-go order of Urban Stead cheeses, I stop for a glass of wine and a little bite. I just can't resist the combination of cheese, wine and football, baseball, or whatever is in season and on the screen. It's a perfect late lunch: delicious artisanal cheeses with fresh fruit, nuts, crostini and jam, and Andrea, Scott and their team are welcoming and happy to explain their amazing products. Plus, they have a nice retail bottle selection, fresh Allez baguettes, cracker, jams and everything you need for a great cheese or charcuterie board. It's no wonder I'm always asked to bring my cheese board to parties - and no surprise I'm happy to do so!

Yelp
We drove down from West Chester to enjoy a fabulous charcuterie board and some great wine. Andrea and Scott are so friendly and knowledgeable that we could have sat for hours and talked with them. We had a beautiful French Rose and ordered the Mother Board so we could taste six of the cheeses. All of them, every one, was outstanding. The accoutrements they put on the boards compliment the cheese and meats very well, and the designs are gorgeous! They have an area to purchase what they serve, and many nice wines. We bought a case of mixed whites/Roses to take home. They are only open on Friday and Saturday evenings so you'll have to plan a visit into your weekend. Highly recommend leaving the burbs to enjoy this place.

Yelp
Amazing cheeses. We had both cheddars, Gouda, pimento and the quark with honey. Great price for how much we got. Nice staff and friendly atmosphere. Will recommend to others for sure.

Yelp
Urban stead provided a cheese board during our picnic with sunday afternoon picnics! We re vegetarian so didn't need the full charcuterie and they were able to double up the cheese and leave off the meat. The dried fruit and the pickled gherkins were a great add on. The crackers were a light flaxseed type that paired well with the cheese. We especially liked the Brie!

Yelp
Urban Stead Cheese is our Friday night go to! We love sharing a Motherboard and a bottle of wine (or two) with friends. They produce in house all of their artisan cheeses with a small footprint that goes right back into the community. Andrea and Scott are hands down THE HARDEST working couple in Cincinnati! We love supporting them and all the local vendors especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. They are still open and happy to help with your charcuterie needs or even provide you with a safe grocery experience. We look forward to continue supporting them now and in the future! WE LOVE URBAN STEAD CHEESE!

Yelp
I'm so glad Urban Stead dining room is open again since Covid started! I've been checking the website to see if the dining room opened up and they just opened up a few weeks ago! As soon as I found out, I had to go! We were welcomed right away by the staff and the owners kept checking in on us throughout the night. I've been here a few times before covid started for happy hour. It's the perfect spot to start of the weekend on a Friday for a chill night while you figure out what else you may want to do that night. What I love about urban stead is the vibe, staff, location, quality, and of course, THE CHEESE! Unlike other cheese tasting places around Cincy, Urban Stead offers quality for a great value. You get what you pay for and the appetizers and drinks are reasonably priced. Like all businesses they had to increase prices slightly after covid, but I still think it's the beat bang for my back. The 3 cheese platter comes with 3 choices of 2 ounces of cheese and for a few more dollars you can add additional cheeses or charcuterie. From the pics you can see that this is a decent amount of cheese and accompaniments for 3 people that aren't starving but looking to have a good snack to fill up on. I always go for 3-4 cheeses vs the larger ones like the Motherboard since I have come with 2-3 people, but if I had a group of 4-6 I would definitely consider that. They have a great selection of soft and hard cheeses. You can see their cheeses aging in their dining room. I love both soft and hard, but appreciate the ages flavors of hard cheeses. This time I had gotten the Street Ched (7 months aged), the sun dried tomato and basil quark, and the Misty River. We added charcuterie to the plate for $4 extra and I'm glad we did. We had a large plate of cheddar cheese curds as well. I loved the sharpness of the Street Ched. I could eat an entire wheel :) the quark also paired very well as a base on the crostini's and pies well with the mustard seed sauce! The misty river is a delicious Brie type of cheese and it paired so well with all the fruits! The board has a great variety of pairings for the cheese and it's always fun to try everything. I have to say the pickled peaches were amazing and the pickled green beans were so different and I was in love with whatever pickling juices they put them in! I think they need to have all the pairings available to get more servings or get them as sides. I could definitely eat a bunch more of the pickled green beans and peaches. With this and the pretzel bites we had a ton of cheese curds leftover but I wasn't complaining :) I also tried the rhubarb gin cocktail. I wish the cocktails were a little larger for the price but it was delicious and refreshing. As a cheese lover I cannot wait to come back and get more cheese. I've tried pretty much all the cheeses at least once so if they come out with new ones it'll be nice to try something new. This is my go to girls night or chill Friday afternoon spot.

Yelp
Love this place! Business or pleasure! I ordered charcuterie for 4 and we didn't finish the board. The Gouda and street cheddar were melt in your mouth delicious! Full bar with a great selection of bourbon. Syrups are creative and house made for hand crafted cocktail. Ground mustard and jams were so good! Tip: go by and pick up some cheese curds you won't regret it!

Yelp
We used Urban Stead Cheese for the first time for one of our corporate events and were off the charts satisfied! They did an amazing job, the food was RAVED about the next day by our employees and the presentation on the each board was gorgeous. No one wanted to touch them at first as they were "too pretty to eat". That didn't last long though and everyone kept coming back for more. I highly recommend and will definitely use again in the future for our events. Thank you for helping our event be a success!

Yelp
So glad Urban Stead Cheese has come to the neighborhood! Their cheese selection is made at the site and several of the cheeses are award-winning. There's a bar, and you can conduct your own wine and cheese tasting. In addition to cheeses, all hard cheeses, no triple cream one, there's a lovely selection of wines, eclectic jams and honeys and more. Good place to visit regularly. Staff was informative and helpful, with the exception of a person who was a bit bossy and seemingly annoyed at my neophyte questions regarding the wines... Not a great ambassador for the shop! Still pleased the shop has come to Woodburn Ave. I imagine they will continue to add interesting products and with repeat customers - hey, All customers, they'll drop the attitude!

Yelp
Forever advocating for an Urban Stead Cheese location in Anderson, can we please make this happen?! Hubs and I packed up the whole family (teen and toddler) and we all LOVED it. My youngest, not the biggest eater, devoured so much cheese and bread; we were shocked! We knew ahead of time that we were going to splurge for the Mother Board $45. Your choice of 6 cheeses with meat, delicious fig jam, mustard, fruit and nuts. Although the fig jam and mustard are not made in house, they were delicious! They do have a small retail section that I checked out from afar. Next time I'll have to see if they sell the fig jam because it was amazing. They also sell walnut boards and cheesy swag. Get the blueberry honey quark, it's an absolute requirement. Along with the Curds and Tomme. And the cheddar. Just get everything and thank me later. The only thing I would slightly tweak is the amount of meat, a couple more slices would've been perfect. The beer prices are so fair, most cans are only $4! They also have a decent selection of liquor and wine and their social media presence is on point! I had a question and they responded within minutes. The owners were kind and thorough with their presentation and clearly has passion for cheese making. Plenty of space to stay and enjoy or take home some quark for toasted bagels. Their charcuterie boards are gorgeous, they do catering AND they have gluten free crackers. They've thoroughly thought this business out!

Yelp
Andrea and Scott, owners of Cincinnati's most exiting cheese producer, are family friends whose relations go back to the time before I was born. Grandma and Grandpa came here a month earlier with Rich and Jackie, and we all agreed we would come during our Christmas weekend. As soon as we landed, we made a beeline to USC and are we ever glad we did! Walking inside you might think you'd be walking into just another brew pub, but instead of copper silos are wooden racks lined with wheels of cheese of varying shapes and sizes and age. Three different climate controlled rooms which can be seen through spotless windows including the operations. USC also features a long bar where you can have a few choices of local draft brews or wine. All the high grade butterfat milk is sourced from local dairy farms, presently Jersey Farms, and is pasteurized prior to beginning production. Lactose intolerant's rejoice as the cheese here is made with specific bacteria that makes it more approachable. The intention is to ripen cheeses for no longer than 18 months. There were none this old so we will need to come back as the cheese continues to ripen! I really enjoyed speaking with Andrea and Scott about the cheese making process. Andrea shares a passion for details which comes from her work as an accountant, auditor and financial reporting. Her husband, Scott, a certified Sommelier, has travelled the world and shares the fine art of viticulture, and naturally fell in love with this business. We started with a round of their IPA brut, a very light but floral and tasty beer. We ordered the Motherboad, served on a beautiful walnut wooden board that is handmade locally and can even be purchased to take home, includes a choice of 6 different cheeses. All of the young cheeses were delicious, my favorite was the Tommy D'evanston Alpine style cheese which to me balanced out just the right amount of savor with creme. I highly recommend a visit to USC and hope to come back with the family again to try some of the older cheese when available.

Yelp
I adore cheese and suggested Urban Stead Cheese Co. for a regular get-together I have with my pals. This is a neighborhood joint offering a fabulous array of cheeses and other snacks, desserts, wines, beers and cocktails in its tasting room. It's also a working cheesemakers and you can see all the lovely aging cheeses through windows that give a view into the production area. It's a retail operation, too, if you'd like to take something home with you. Free parking is available in the back and on the street. We opted for the Mother Board, which we customized with six cheeses (ably guided by the proprietor Andrea Siefring-Robbins, who clearly has a passion for cheese and locally sourced things that pair deliciously with it). The board also featured a good selection of charcuterie, bread, crackers, fruit and unique and tasty house-pickled items. At $45, it's hearty enough to satisfy a group of four without breaking the bank. Drinks average around $8. If cheese is your thing, Urban Cheese Stead is very much worth a visit!

Yelp
We heard about Urban Stead Cheese through the radio and are so happy we did. We went for the first time last weekend and came back a second time this weekend. Amazing cheese, great drink selection, and incredible service! Thank you, Andrew for remembering us and taking great care of us two weekends in a row! We can't wait to come back and finish trying the cheeses. We do wish there were high chairs for the baby, but overall amazing atmosphere, food, and service!

Yelp
Wow. What a concept. I stopped by this place yesterday with some friends with my birthday. It was surprisingly not packed at all with just a few other parties there. We were seated quickly and given the run down of the menu. Our group ordered the ultimate mother board and let me tell you... it was AMAZING. The presentation was beautiful and the cheeses were all great. My favorite was the honey + blueberry quark. It came with a wide variety of things to pair together, and our waitress made some great pairing recommendations. I drank two of the urban mules while we ate, and they were delicious as well. At the end of our trip, we bought a few items from their takeaway and merch section. I will definitely be coming back, and I've already told so many people about this place. I may even have my husband stop by after work and grab some cheeses sometime.

Brandie R.

Yelp
This place is absolute perfection! Atmosphere, drinks, food, retail...EVERYTHING was in point! They educate you on the cheese and wine and really include you in the experience from start to finish! And so cool to see where they make the cheese and where they age the cheese while you're enjoying the most beautiful and delicious charcuterie you've ever experienced!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. I'm so lucky to live just a couple blocks away. My personal favorites are street ched and gouda!

Yelp
Still a soft opening in my opinion, but thus far this place is really nice. Love the addition to the Walnut Hills area which needs more food establishments. It has a decent bar and the first 2 cheese offerings available (cheddar curds and quark cup) were rich and delicious. I'll be hoping to see this place add additional cheese pairings (maybe a partnership with a local bread or some type of housemate bruschetta, olives, meats, something salty to balance out the richness in the cream of the cheese) in future months. They are aging more cheeses as I type so can't wait to see what they come up with. I'll definitely come back for a future visit however and think this could become a nice summer hangout.

Yelp
First off, Urban Stead is a refreshingly unique concept: a variety of cheeses made in-house with locally sourced milk. As I walked in, the workers were separating the curds from the whey whilst making their Tomme d'Evanston - a delicious gruyere-like nutty hard cheese. It was so cool to see it being made fresh. The owner was super passionate about the cheese (and the process) and explained that the milk originates just east of Cincinnati. Besides just being a super well-executed concept, it's great to see how Urban Stead is committed to integrating with local businesses. They have a huge soft pretzel that they source from Covington, KY, baguettes from Allez downtown, local beers and drinks, and fruit-based cocktails made from Queen City Shrubs. They also wholesale their cheeses to places like Coppin's, Metropole and up north to Dorothy Lane Market in Dayton. Prepare to be amazed by the level of attention to detail and flat-out artistic execution of Urban Stead's cheese plates and drinks. Overall my favorite was the blueberry Quark (they also have a roasted tomato version) - next time I am getting some to go!

Yelp
This is one of the best homemade cheese I've ever tried!!! My Mr and I always passed by whenever we are in the area and decided to try it on a Saturday afternoon. You walk in and seat yourself anywhere (someone will wait on you) The staff was welcoming and friendly. We told them it was our first time. They gave us a history of the place and how long they aged their cheese. I was shocked with how much milk they get from the farms. The menu is simple. You can choose and pick your cheese. They sell wine by the bottle or glass. Not feeling wine? They have cocktails and beers (a few on tap). Mostly local craft beers. They set up inside is very nice! Very spacious and love the bar area as well! We decided to get the cheese board for $18.00 which you choose 3 of their specialty cheese. It comes with fruit, nuts, pickled items, bread and crackers. We added additional cheese for $3.00 and Charcuterie (salami/prosciutto) for $4.00. We got: Street Ched-Aged Clothbound Cheddar Tomme d'Evanston Alpine Misty River Camembert Style Gouda We paired the cheeses with a bottle of Garnacha red wine. When we got our cheese board, I was impressed with the presentation! Everything paired well together. Especially the Misty River with the fig and nuts. My second favorite was the Gouda with the fresh apples. We loved the cheese so much that we purchased the Misty River to take home! They do sell beer/wine to go, T-Shirts, cheese boards, etc.. They even cater as well! Such a great experience! Excellent service and the staff rocks! Definitely returning and can't wait to try their other products!

Yelp
Locally made cheese. Amazing vibe. Free WiFi Fresh cheese curds every Wednesday! Seasonal drinks from cocktails to vino to cerveza. Will definitely come back!

Yelp
Absolutely love this place Staff is nice and small enough to recognize us when we come in. We still have more cheese to try and can't wait to come back again. Staff is also very knowledgeable and make great recommendations for first time customers.

Yelp
If I could only say one word it would be wow. I can't believe it took me so long to hear about this place! We had a group of about 8 people on a Saturday to celebrate one of my best friend's birthdays and it was so relaxed and calm. This place might be a hidden gem. The interior is welcoming and chic. Several of us had the Urban Mule and loved it. We split the Mother Board as a table and ate nearly the entire thing. They have such great pairings and such a variety of cheeses! My favorite part was the honeycomb that came with it. They also have a cute gift shop where you can take home virtually anything you enjoyed during your visit, and shirts and other items too! They offer catering and pickup and now I know where I'll be coming once a month for a quick board pick up or for grabbing supplies to DIY! They also have several large windows that allow you to peek into the cheese rooms which makes for a unique and delightful experience. Just go. If you're still reading this, run there now!

Yelp
I was gonna come up with a good cheese pun to start this review, but then it o-curd to me that this place doesn't need one. It's just a great place for delicious local-made cheese. No joke! All their cheese is made in house, and you can even see the aging magic happen right there. My lady and I had driven past this spot quite a few times, each time always commenting on how we should check it out... And finally, we did. We were definitely impressed and then some! The place itself is very spacious with lots of comfy seating. Grab a table or sit at the bar, it's your choice, and the staff are all very friendly and knowledgeable. We told our server that it was our first time, and she gladly told us all about the place, including their history and all about their cheeses. Their menu is loaded with a gouda mount of cheese options (okay, one more cheese pun). Wines by glass or bottle, beers by can or on draft, as well as cocktails are available too. So many options! We opted for a cheese board with our choice of three cheeses (Street ched-aged cheddar, Tomme D'Evanstan-Alpine style, Misty River camembert style) along with fruit, nuts, and different spreads. We decided to add one more cheese (gouda) and some charcuterie for a nominal fee. We also ordered a bottle of Anciano Garnacha to go along with it. Every bite was absolutely fantastic and the wins paired VERY well with it! This is a great spot for any cheese lover! You can even order some to go, which my lady and I did with the Misty River. So wheel on in and check it out for yourself! It's not far out of the whey! (Yeah, I had to do it! )

Yelp
Wow! What a unique place!!! We arrived from Miami to Cincinnati for the holidays. My parents picked us up, then knowing how we love farm to table places took us to this amazing cheese bistro! They make their own cheese right there on site! At least 7 different types including cheddar, curds, and Gouda (my favorites). There was all types of wines and beer on tap from local breweries. We were lucky enough to talk to the owners/cheese makers and they told us the milk comes from jersey cows in the local area. We ordered the mother board, it came with 6 cheeses, fruit, meat, crackers, bread and pickled veggies, almost to beautiful to eat..... but it is cheese sooooo.... and some truly delicious cheese! This place deserves 6 stars!!! I wish we had a place like this in Miami!

Wow this place is amazing. They have award-wining cheeses. They are super friendly and they have a nice, classy store with easy parking. They were helpful and informative and I would love to come back. A+

Yelp
I've been stalking Urban Stead on Facebook since they opened and finally made it over to East Walnut Hills to visit... definitely not disappointed! I first met a friend here on a Friday night to catch up. We split a bottle of wine and a cheese board. There were a good number of people, but it didn't feel overcrowded or too loud. The owners were there and had some great suggestions for both wine and cheese options. We went with the cheddar, the Gouda, and the blueberry honey quark, and a Rosé. Everything was great, which is why when my mom and sister came to visit this weekend, this was the first place that popped into my mind for an afternoon snack. They have a few TVs, which were set to the Bengals/Browns game, and you can see where they make and store their cheese through giant glass windows. Everyone I talked to was super knowledgeable about the process and clearly excited to be a part of Urban Stead. Recommendations: the honey/blueberry quark is fabulous. Don't come here without trying it. The cheese curds were great too (my family is from Wisconsin so we love our cheese curds) and actually a good deal for how many you get. Hoping they start offering some wine or beer tastings soon. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Can't believe this place has been open for over a year, and I am just now finding out about it! Probably top pick for charcuterie boards. They make some of the cheese in house, which were to die for. I asked for dealers choice on our board. They didn't disappoint. Next time I will be trying the Mother Board! Good job guys! They serve beer and wine. Other salty snacks. And everybody was soo nice. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Love this place! It's so nice to have a cheese shop in my neighborhood. They already have an excellent selection and will be releasing more kinds of cheese as they age. The cheese boards are excellently priced and beautiful. You really get a nice selection of accoutrements with the cheeses. And you can add meat. Plus they have soft pretzels and cake. I haven't tried these yet but I'm sure I will eventually. The bar is also top notch. They have a good selection of wine and local beers. My favorite though is their cocktails made with Queen City Shrubs. The shrub gives you nice flavor without being sweet and full of sugar. The lemon flavor is my favorite. The owners are always here and you can tell how much they love what they do.

Yelp
Andrea was incredibly helpful for a last minute cheese & charcuterie board for 9 people. The food was tasty, they came in perfect takeout boxes that kept them perfectly plated to serve, and the variety was perfect!

Yelp
I had my first taste of quark on toasted sourdough at Urbana Cafe just down the street. This magical, creamy, tangy cheese spread immediately enchanted my taste buds. I was informed I could buy my own quark at Urban Stead so I went and bought a quart of quark post haste. Experimenting with it at home we discovered it is even more delicious on toast mixed with mashed avocado (they can do that at Urbana if you ask) and dusted with smoked paprika (they can't do that). Recently we went on vacation to North Carolina and sought alternate sourcing for quark. Found some at Whole Food. Horribly disappointing. May as well have been runny ricotta. Urban Stead has the only worthwhile quark I've found thus far. They also have lots of other things like house-made cheeses and cured meats and wine and wondrous curios, but it's the quark that holds my heart.

Yelp
It's a little bit off the main hub of Walnut Hills, but you definitely should go the 1 and a half blocks north of DeSales corner and visit. Urban Stead creates a variety of wonderful cheeses. You can take a seat and try them with pretzels, as cheese curds, or as a lovely charcuterie spread. They have a good selection of beer, wine, and cocktails. There are also big picture windows to view the wheels and wheels of cheese made on site. Service is really good and it's a great place to go with friends.

Yelp
I absolutely adore everything about this place. 1) The milk is brought in from a farm just outside of Cincinnati. The cheese is made on the spot, in-house 2) The cheese is also served at several restaurants in the Cincinnati area. 3) Leftover cheese is donated to local food banks. 4) Unused whey is given back to farmers to feed their pigs. 5) The cheese itself is amazing -- personally, I will be returning for the quark (like cream cheese, but with some of the tartness of yogurt) and the cheddar (a perfect dry white crumbly cheddar). All varieties were fabulous, though! 6) If it's not too busy, the owners are happy to explain the cheese-making process and show the workers making it on the spot, as well as where the cheese ages. 7) The owners clearly care about the surrounding community (several abandoned houses nearby are being renovated), and want to be supportive of its revitalization without gentrification. 8) The prices are actually fairly reasonable, considering everything is made on site. This is everything I love about local business -- wanting to give back to the community and city that supports them. I will definitely be back frequently, and will bring friends. They also do catering, which I may take advantage of, as well. If you are as addicted to cheese as I am, you'll be in heaven!

Yelp
I want to say upfront: I would rate this a 4.25 to 4.5 if that was possible, but felt it was more of a 4-star than 5 star. Anyways... I took my wife here for a surprise date night a week ago. Neither of us had been before, but we're both fans of cheese (honestly, who isn't?) It was a Thursday night around 8p and there were only a few other people seated. The place is immaculate; exactly what you would expect from a place that needs to excel when dealing with bacteria cultures and aging. I ordered a beer (great selection BTW!) and my wife got a glass of wine. We perused the menu and ordered "The Motherboard." The cheese was delicious--no disappointments whatsoever. The accoutrements that were included also featured many fun surprises that I would never think to include on a charcuterie board, but they were excellent additions. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 were a few small things that added up: -after we placed the order for the Motherboard it seemed to take longer than should have been expected. This isn't fast food, I fully realize, but it was long enough that we both kept telling each other, "Shouldn't it be here by now?" Our wait was just as long or longer than a fully prepared meal that includes prep & cooking for a reference. -the staff working that evening was incredibly nice and very well versed when it came to questions about the cheeses, the facility, and everything under their roof. They just seemed to.... linger. I'm more critical than my wife and was going to let it pass, but when she brought it up I knew it wasn't just me. We DID both agree, that we would rather have someone that's nice and lingers than someone that is rude and short. But when trying to have a date night, you know when that 3rd person isn't part of the date, you know? -while we were working on (read: devouring) our cheese board, we were starting to run low on crackers and bread. At this point, we couldn't find anyone to ask for more, so we stretched crackers to include much larger portions of cheese. When our waitress visited it seemed the meal was over instead of trying to add these, so we skipped it. Like I said, very, very small things, but they start to add up. If it was just one, I'd be writing a glowing 5-star review and probably not mention it. Would I go back? ABSOLUTELY and I would also recommend it to people.

Yelp
This place was a good find for wine and cheese lovers. Great selection hard and soft cheeses! The ambiance is casual (think metal bar chairs and 8-10 tables of 4-6) and the service team is friendly. We sat at the bar the first time we came to get recommendations from the server on what cheeses to order. The board came out pretty efficiently and they had local beers available in draft/cans/bottles. Overall a nice experience, with very affordable charcuterie options. Only wish list is that more delicious bread came with the plates. They also have cheese for sale so I'll be considering that option in the future. Will be going back, and recommend this place for a relaxed girls night or date night!

Yelp
Cheese is very good and the people are very helpful. Love the cheddar and the cheese curds. To be honest all their cheese is excellent, but the cheddar and curds are my favorites.

Yelp
I can't praise Urban Stead enough - they have been an absolutely godsend to my partner and I over the past year+. From ordering groceries and stock goods, to beautiful carry out charcuterie & cheese boards on the nights when we just needed something *nice* to perk us up, the crew at Urbana Stead has always taken amazing care of us. The lengths they have gone to in order protect their customers (and themselves) during COVID-19 has cemented their establishment as a go-to of ours for years ahead. Thank you for being so wonderful!

Yelp
URBAN STEAD CHEESE: where have you been my entire life?! As a cheese lover, I was absolutely thrilled to visit. They have a phenomenal selection of cheese, all made in house with local ingredients. The cheese curds I had were literally made the day before and may be the best thing I've ever eaten. Ever. I had a great pinot noir while there, and the other wine choices look great, too. Looking forward to coming back!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I are suckers for a good charcuterie board so we tried one of Urban Stead's to-go cheese boards. Everything was so good and it came packaged on a cute little wooden board with lots of bread, crackers, fruits and other tasty extras. We will definitely be using this to-go service again!!

Yelp
I wish I could give this place more than five stars! I was planning a party for a large group and had some last-minute changes to our plans that required us to find an indoor place to host our get together. I found urban stead cheese through an Internet search and thought the place looked perfect for our event so I called and asked for a reservation for 16 with one days notice. I thought that they were going to tell me that I was crazy but Andrea was wonderful at pulling some strings to make sure that we had the best party ever! The cheese boards and drinks were delicious, the staff was wonderful, and the space is beautiful! We are looking forward to having another event here soon!

Yelp
They are wonderful, and the owner is very kind and thoughtful. The mother board was enough for 4-5 people and I really liked their drinks menu. The aged cheddar was really nice.
