Yelp
Summary: Cheap prices, small portions, novel take on traditional breakfast.
Being a self-proclaimed lover of brunch, I am always on the lookout for brunch destinations that offer something different from the traditional pancake, omelette, waffle breakfasts. While I appreciate a well-made traditional brunch, I know how difficult it is to infuse new ideas in the creation of a limited menu for breakfast.
Located in the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Bloomington near MOA, Urbana Craeft Kitchen combines modern decor with the freshness of home grown ingredients that enable new menu creations.
We ordered:
Scandinavian Malted Waffle (4/5 Stars) $10:
Aesthetically appealing and made with fresh berries whipped cream, the waffle was more similar to a Hong Kong style Egg Waffle in that it was a lot more fluffly, chewy, and lighter than a traditional waffle. The maple syrup was strange and tasted "too organic" but overall it was a fresh take on a waffle and at a reasonable price.
Scandinavian Buttermilk Ball Pancakes (4/5 Stars) $10:
A completely different take on pancakes, in the form of fluffy balls filled with a lingonberry filling that tasted like lemon and oranges. An interesting spin on a traditional breakfast concept again, but and the syrup again tasted strangely bitter. Portion size left much to be deserved, but the pancakes themselves were chewy and tasteful.
Croissant & Egg White Scramble (4/5 Stars) $7: The portion size that came out was absurd and looked like half the size of a regular croissant. With that being said, it was by far the best thing we ordered. The scallions combined with the squash and dill aioli gave it a savory taste with a kick that wasn't too strong. Would definitely recommend ordering (two of them).
Overall, if you're in the mood for something new at a reasonable price in a nice environment, this is your place. Just plan on being hungry again in a couple of hours.
TIP: BYOS (Bring your own syrup), or ask if they have normal syrup.
