Where to Eat and Drink in Duluth, Minnesota

"Pull off I-35 for a hazy IPA and a slice of pizza at Ursa Minor Brewing. These craft beers are divided into four categories: hoppy (like a Scandinavian pale ale, for example), sour (a kiwi pomegranate sour ale), light (a coffee cream ale) and dark (a rich chocolate stout). Pair a pint with one of Ursa Minor’s wood-fired pizzas, and enjoy the outdoor patio, which is heated by fire pits in the winter." - Justine Jones, Alex Lodner

I love that they have vegan pizza! There's no vegan cheese, but they have fresh veggies and mushrooms, and even top it with nooch! The wood fired crust is so delicious. Their bear bread (focaccia) is perfect to snack on while you wait for the pizza. I love the outdoor space and the fires. I love being outside even if it's a bit chilly. I like that they have seltzer options for those of us who don't like beer.

Google
Large variety of beers on tap, which is really nice. Gotta love the balanced hazy IPAs. We are obsessed with the pizza. The dough is something to be admired. It's somehow all together chewy, light, crispy and soft. Usually we get a simple margarita pie just to be able to better taste the quality of the crust and the tomato sauce. Pizza perfection 👌

Google
The pizza and the beer were both incredible. Love the outdoor area; it was a beautiful evening. I can't remember all the beers we tried, but every single one was incredible. The pizza was the one with the wild rice sausage - 10/10. Easily some of the best pizza I've had. The staff was amazing, too! I will certainly be back next time I'm in Duluth.

Google
Katie, up at Cascade Lodge, told me to check this place out. Oh yeah, better than average beer, and the pizza is cheap and quality. After the 1st bite, I told my wife that the sauce tasted homemade. Sure enough, that and the crust. New fav in Duluth

Google
My wife and I had a lunch date here and couldn't be happier with it all. Together, we tried... The Razzler - Dry and sour but refreshing Mermaid Slur - Alchoholic Slushy lots of berry flavor Bear Hop - Hops were fresh American IPA was fantastic and light Pepperoni Pizza - Above and beyond what I got at the price, Neoploitan style with its own unique taste, I was extremely impressed, one of the better slices I have had! The Caprese - Went over similarly, very fresh pesto, tomatoes, and ingredients all around, looked and tasted fantastic, well worth the price, and the homemade ranch was phenomenal also The staff was happy and hardworking, I could tell the vibe here was great, and I was happy to be a part of it!

Google
We had the nomad pizza, NA lemon slushie, and a slushied Undercurrent berry sour and it was all excellent. Friendly, big patio and indoor space, kid-friendly off to the right of the bar, probably good for a wheelchair

Google
As a non beer drinker I appreciated they had options. The root beer was really good. I haven't been here for years buy went today for a birthday. Staff was friendly and helpful. Liked the snack options, pretzel was very good. Found the wall of games and played a round of dominoes.

Google
Very good beer selections and great beers. Nice atmosphere and patio/outdoor area.

Yelp
This brewery is for everybody to feel welcomed. The employees were so friendly and helpful picking the perfect flight. The beer was amazing and a massive selection. The atmosphere is warm with something for everyone. My only regret is I only had limited to enjoy. What a gem Duluth has!
google avatar

Annie D.

Yelp
We were heading up to the north shore for some camping and stopped here for lunch. They had a great menu and plenty of options for non-beer drinkers. I got a pint of root beer. We got a few different things. My friends loved their salad and the pizza was pretty good. I think it could've used a little more cheese. We also got the bear bread with ricotta and while it was delicious I thought there would be more bread for $8.

Yelp
Ursa Minor Brewing is a must-visit in Duluth! Great beer selection, a fun laid-back atmosphere, and super friendly service. The outdoor patio is perfect, and the food hits the spot too.

Yelp
I have had a good number of Ursa Minor beer, but almost exclusively in cans. I was happy to be able to visit the taproom in order to enjoy their offerings on draft, and to chat with some other industry members. Ursa Minor Brewing is a craft brewery in Duluth, Minnesota's Lincoln Park Craft District that serves a variety of beers, wood-fired pizza, and other food. The brewery opened in 2018 and is named after the North Star constellation.  While there, I got a flight of some beers. Glamping: A Lemon Shandy that was super refreshing on the hot day. There was a nice tartness to it that made you keep grabbing for another sip. Agate Hunter: A Fruited Sour full of Boysenberry, Cherry, and Vanilla. Nice sweetness from the vanilla with tartness from the fruit. Berry forward with a tart finish. Alora Amora: A Hazy IPA that had a nice roundness to it. Not too thick, not too in your face, just a nice enjoyable Hazy. Oktoberfest: An Oktoberfest brewed with German Malt that accentuated the biscuit character while maintaining easy drinkability that you could imagine drinking out of a liter stein. ___

Yelp
Stopped at this great brewery in the Duluth Lincoln Park Craft District a couple months ago. We had some terrific beers, listened to some good live music, and ate good wood fired pizza. They really nailed the outdoor space - works really well for both large groups and small ones like ours. Like several of the spots on W Superior, it has a kind of renovated industrial feel that feels well worn but somehow new at the same time.

Yelp
Love this place! Family friendly environment with a back room seating area that is designed for families. The drink menu offers a great variety and the staff are extremely helpful. The pizza is excellent with a quick turnaround from when you order to delivery to your table. Great outdoor seating options. Wednesday nights they offer fun trivia or bingo that rotates every week. If you're looking for a fun brewery experience, this is a must!

Yelp
Kale pizza? Good for a slice, but a bit of a committal for a full pie. On a more positive note, a $6 twenty ounce draft is quite a snag for a weekly special. Our server was quick to entertain his choice of "the most American song." However, his choice of Don McLean seemed a certainty as it played over the loudspeakers at the time of asking. If you're looking to play GoFish or Hanabi and see a lot of dogs, this is the covered porch for you. I'd return again, but would be trying a different pizza. To be specific, a gluten circle with a few more gluttonous calories. Cheers Duluthers and other fellow visitors.
google avatar

Angela C.

Yelp
It was ok I had a cider and gluten free pizza. Both were good but there is no where near enough cheese on their pizzas. Plus it took like half an hour to get it. Way too long IMO.
google avatar

Erik R.

Yelp
I absolutely love the vibe and beer at Ursa! In the summer, there plenty of outdoor seating with fire pits and live music too (with a pontoon boat for a stage..gotta luv it!). My favorite beer choices were the Kolsch and Oktoberfest. They do fill growlers too as a bonus. I didn't try the pizza so can't comment on the food. We thoroughly enjoyed this brew pub!
google avatar

Kimberly F.

Yelp
This place is super roomy with plenty of seating inside and on the patio. Dog friendly, kid friendly. The kids even have their own area. The beer was good and a good selection. Service was good. You can order your food at the bar. We had a voyager pizza. I would have done a little less kale and more mushrooms but that's my personal preference and it was a delicious pizza.
google avatar

Erik P.

Yelp
The pizza here is outstanding. Service was fast and respectful. There was a wide variety of beer to choose from - so much so that my wife got a flight to try more options. We went on a beautiful May day, and we loved soaking up some sun on the patio area. They had a local jazz band playing tunes. Excellent brewery and restaurant. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Ursa Minor is a great place in Duluth! We loved it cause it's family friendly and kids are welcome. There's indoor seating and a huge outdoor area including a covered patio if it rains + it's dog friendly! They host live music on select days and there are courtyard games. We ordered two flights and got to chose our selections. The staff is super friendly and helpful. We will be returning!
google avatar

John K.

Yelp
Unbelievable beer and pizza. A place I will definitely return. IT WAS BUSY!!! But the staff was super kind and polite, the variety of beer and the quality was top notch. Amazing place for get together large or small and a large outside for pets too!! Really enjoyed this place. All the pizzas (tried 6 kinds) were all delicious.
google avatar

Suzie R.

Yelp
Great brewery and great fun spots to sit and relax on their brewery. We got beverages including the thc drink by wild state (I'm gfree). It was one of the best tasting thc drinks I've ever had. And to boot, wild state is 460 feet from Ursa Minor. Snacks - we got a cauliflower pepperoni pizza, kettle chips and the pretzel for the 6 of us. Cauliflower crust was just okay and did take a long time to come out. I wish they would've mentioned that they had an influx of orders and it would take 30+ mins. Also, the staff weren't friendly at all and seemed more bothered when I came to the counter to order or ask a question.
google avatar

Maria M.

Yelp
The pizza is incredible! Beer is delicious! Fun atmosphere and very friendly staff. Not sure I love the ordering method and the lack of take out containers/box. Hard to bring home a pizza in a paper bag. With that said, I will still go back because it's just that good.
google avatar

Linnea K.

Yelp
Great family friendly atmosphere and helpful staff. Street parking can be a little tricky. We tried two pizzas, both were delicious but I particularly loved the Baked Potato Pie! Sauna Beer also so good!

Alex M.

Yelp
Ursa has become one of my all-time favorite breweries and definitely my favorite in the Duluth area! They have so many great brews and they continue to innovate. With a wide variety of options, awesome pizza, and a cool atmosphere, I can't recommend Ursa enough.
google avatar

Scott F.

Yelp
Fun place in the renovated downtown of Duluth this brewer pizzeria has a cool outdoor indoor vibe with killer pizza and some delicious beers. Root beer on tap for the littles and a fantastic German pretzel with cheese and mustard. Seating can be tough on busy days and it's under renovation but when it's done it will be quite the spot indoor. Also one of the best people watching spots as it is an eclectic mix of folks. Try it when you are up north or in the greater Duluth area

Stephen S.

Yelp
Very cool place. The staff and food were great. The staff was welcoming. The outdoor patio looks great bout we were there at 45 below so we stayed inside with a fun decor n

Yelp
A visiting out-of-towner asked his friends where to go to see the best parts of Duluth nightlife - a place locals would go for a great beer and a great bite of food. They picked me up at my hotel and brought me straight to Ursa Minor, and I'm quite pleased they did. The place was loud-ish. It was fun. It was oddly shaped, with different rooms. The beers were really good and the selection was delightfully diverse - especially for someone who doesn't like IPAs and gets sick of places that only have 5 IPAs and a Pale Ale on their menu. We also had some pizza, which was inventive. Squirts of ricotta cheese and pickled onion and kale - these are the kinds of ingredients I want to try on my pizza, especially when I'm travelling. The crust was crunchy and I love the wood-fired flavor. I will not only suggest this place to my handful of Duluth friends, but also give my highest recommendation for other weary travelers lucky enough to stop into town. Great spot!

Yelp
Don't skip this brewery in Duluth, MN! GREAT spot! A friend and I stopped on a Friday afternoon and stayed for a few hours....longer than we planned. ;-) The lady who helped us was friendly and nice. She recommended the pretzel and it did not disappoint at all. The cheese and ranch served with it was very tasty. My friend even got some ranch to go! Brew was good! We really enjoyed the Glamping beer. Patio is huge and nice. It was a little bit chilly that afternoon and there were heaters on to help keep you warm. There were also fire pits outside. The pizzas smelt and looked delicious too; I'll have to try that next time I visit. This is a must stop for me when in Duluth.
google avatar

Matt W.

Yelp
I swear, their wood fire pizza comes out so fast, and is so delicious, I can never get enough. Aside from that since it's brewery, that is no slight to their beers. I've had their pils, a couple sours, and several of their stouts over the course of my numerous visits and they all deliver. This particular trip I'm having their Imperial Cultivating Mass. This no adjunct stout has a rich, roasty chocolate flavor that's extremely pleasant. I also checked out their Blackberry Stout that's more session-able at 5.7% and was quite tasty. Also had their pepperoni pizza which has a solid flavor and rich toppings. Generally I can always find street parking close which is always a plus (and free). They're easily my fave Duluth stop. Prices fair, atmosphere solid, food and beer well worth checking out.

Deb M.

Yelp
My husband came there for the Bearista coffee beer, I tagged along for the pizza. Both were excellent. A bit long of a wait for the pizza, but it was a busy Saturday afternoon. (And the bartender let us know that up front - thank you!) Wish the Bearista was a year-around option!!
google avatar

Jason K.

Yelp
Cool brewery with an awesome outside space. We went on a Friday night and the outside area was packed, so we ended up sitting inside. Love that the outside has live music and the inside has a play area for kids. Great assortment of beverages to choose from, not just beer. Tried a bunch of their pizzas and they're tasty, but they're a little on the small side considering the price. And not sure if it was just the day we went, but it took an hour to get our food. They warned us in advance that it would take a while, but still... Overall, it's a fun place to bring the family and I would consider coming back if ever visiting Duluth again and have time to kill.
google avatar

Lauren V.

Yelp
We have been DYING to come to this brewery, and we finally did! Atmosphere was good, the outside patio was gorgeous, the service was all right, the beers are fabulous. Needless to say, we were not disappointed!

Madelyn M.

Yelp
Favorite spot in Duluth!! Have a large selection of alcoholic beverages and N/A beverages. The pizza selection is fantastic and all the other options are as well! Don't even get me started on the out door heated patio
google avatar

Ben K.

Yelp
Duluth is packed with places to cozy up to a beer, and this spot should definitely make your list! Located on the Superior Street Strip, it's easy to make a few other stops over the course of an evening or afternoon. Plenty of street parking available nearby! The space inside is actually quite small (the reason this spot loses a star) but there is lots of outdoor space available! So as long it isn't the dead of winter, there's usually somewhere to call your own! We came during the fall, and they had a few firepits set up, which were perfect for us! Service has always been nice and quick! The beer is good! Super solid, well-known varieties. I went with the Oktoberfest, which was lovely! You can't go wrong with their many choices. They also serve wood-fired pizzas that look really tasty! We always make a stop when we are in Duluth!
google avatar

Chassidie L.

Yelp
Ursa Minor definitely has one cool logo and is servin' up some delicious craft beer. The interior is intimate w/ a bunch of board games and a wood-fire pizza oven! They also have a spacious patio with heaters in the winter. But one of my favorite things is that they have community events like art night and live music! We got a flight when we went ($10) to try all the different brews. My personal favorite was the constellation cream ale. And you know we had to try one of their wood-fire pizzas! We just got the classic margarita pizza ($13.50) and it was sooo tasty. Crispy yet soft at the same time. The vibes here are just great. Noisy but not too noisy. Dark but not too dark. Definitely a place to grab a couple beers with some friends, hang for a while, and enjoy yourselves.
google avatar

Joel L.

Yelp
Cool brewery. I wish we had chosen to eat here instead of where we went, but the beers were good and we'll thought out. Very inclusive atmosphere. The beertender was excited and knowledgeable about their brews. The queue to order expanded and contracted quickly, so even if there looks to be a long wait, it goes quickly. I/we wanted merch to support, but nothing seemed to hit us right.
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
We came here on a Friday afternoon for some beverages and snacks. I had the badass princess warrior, a hazy ipa. It was delicious. My husband had a stout, and liked it. My kids got root beer and also enjoyed it. There is a patio and a huge outdoor area. There is a lot of seating inside as well.
google avatar

Michael W.

Yelp
Stopped by Monday for a casual dinner of wood fired pizza and tasty brews. Had the extra powered IPA and Oktoberfest. Both luscious beautiful brews. The very chill indoor atmosphere added a nice vibe to the flavorful Wise Yker pie. Great blend of meat cheese and onions. My only suggestion would be to add a couple pepperoncini's on the side to wake up my palate!
google avatar

Angel D.

Yelp
Great space, kid friendly, good variety of brews and non-brews. Pretzels are a kid-pleaser

Hannah J.

Yelp
Pepperoni pizza ($16) and a flight of beer ($14). Awesome atmosphere and pretty good pizza!
google avatar

Carissa E.

Yelp
Love this brewery! They have an awesome patio layout. The patio is huge so there's a lot of spots to choose from, you can sit by the fire or underneath the pergola. They have awesome beer choices I really enjoyed the pale ale. We also ordered food this time around, the pizza is delicious! Crispy and flavorful - the cheesy panini was good too!
google avatar

Jen E.

Yelp
We stopped in here on a Saturday afternoon and it was so crowded we left. Returned on a Monday and was great. Open patio and dining. We enjoyed two pizzas from their brick oven, as well as a bag of Windy City Three Mad Poppers popcorn, and a pretzel with beer cheese and popcorn. Also enjoyed a tiny glass of a very nice cider.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
This place is a must if you are in the area! The food is great and so is the beer! The atmosphere is very cute too! I would definitely stop back here if I was in the area again.
google avatar

Andrea S.

Yelp
The beer selection was amazing my husband and I both got a different flight so we could try more we normally don't purchase a lot of beer from microbreweries but this was exceptional our favorite was the hazy bear. The staff was very helpful.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
First time at this brewery. I travel full time and hit craft breweries in every place I stay, from the west coast to British Columbia, Alberta to Michigan so far. Ursa Minor has a good vibe with inside and outside seating. Dog friendly and a glass for my beer even for outside. I didn't try their food. Nice west coast style IPA with the hoppiness I expected. I definitely would go back and try their New England style hazy or a stout.
google avatar

Michelle A.

Yelp
Had to stop by for my carb load the day before Grandma's! The pizza was satisfying but, personal preference, was hoping for a little more ricotta on the Voyager. The red chili pepper flakes gave it a nice bite. We also had the Bear Bread and it was a nice thin crust cheesy, toasty bread. The marinara sauce it came with was really good. I enjoyed the oatmeal stout, Zaddy's Breakfast. Highly recommend the Ewok Cuddles and Bieramisu! Overall, this is a cool lunch place to visit with its outdoor patio and indoor industrial vibe!
google avatar

Brenna R.

Yelp
Perfect patio for a windy spring day. I split a pepperoni pizza with friends (no brews for me). The patio is protected from the wind and has heaters. It was 55 degrees outside and I was comfortable! Service was awesome - food was delivered to our table outside and a server even bussed our table for us. Would recommend!
google avatar

Tiana D.

Yelp
Ursa Minor was so fun! It was packed on a Friday night, so a bit hard to find somewhere to sit (at least inside, there were tons of tables outside). The beer is excellent, ordered the Galactic Face Slap because of the name and was not disappointed. The Wise Yker pizza was great! The Bear Bread was skippable.
google avatar

Alissa D.

Yelp
Stopped on our way through Duluth & Ursa Minor hit everything we were looking for. From the coziness of the inside, to the drool-worthy pizza & huge drink menu! We had the wise yker pizza, bear bread & apple pie kumbucha. Everything was to die for, 10/10 recommend!
google avatar

Cassie M.

Yelp
Beer, pizza, and live acoustic music made for a nice Sunday lunch with friends. Enjoyed the Hazed & Confused hazy sour and the Action Slacks hazy IPA. Friends liked the pepperoni and nomad pizzas, but unfortunately the voyager left a little to be desired as they were out of mushrooms and seems like the balsamic glaze was barely there. Could've used more drizzle or other flavor, but still left happy and satisfied. Crust was perfection in the wood fire oven. Service was friendly and the musician was great! Cool, casually atmosphere, and also some cute merch. Definitely would come back. Cheers!
google avatar

Brandon W.

Yelp
What can I say but wow. From the patio to inside we very much enjoyed our experience at Ursa Minor. We had two great beers and enjoyed the outside fires they had going and made some new friends. Next time we will stay for pizza as their oven looks amazing.
google avatar

Yelp
I just had to write an update, and give another star, because we went again this weekend and were SO IMPRESSED with the outdoor patio for winter conditions! There's a tent with heaters in addition to several fire pits on the patio, with tables adjacent so you can eat the most delicious wood fired pizza in the area! We ordered The Nomad, and swapped the sausage for basil. House pickled red onion, oyster mushrooms, parmesan, mozzarella, YUM. You have to eat it super fast if it's cold outside though, which was not a problem for us. We loved our server Leah, she was so kind and attentive. She even came out and stoked our fire with more wood without us asking. We should have gone back the next night for dinner again, instead of the terrible meal that we had at Canal Park. Kicking ourselves! Previous review: We had a great time at Ursa Minor last night! We had only intended to stop for one round, and then continue hopping breweries and tasting all we could in the very brewery-prolific West-end Duluth. But when we realized there was a band setting up, complete with a horn section, we decided to stick around and enjoy some live music. What a treat! The band was very entertaining. And the beers were pretty good too. My favorites were the Pontoon Pounder (a mild sour) and May Flowers. I tried all of the sours, but didn't care for the strongest one or another more floral one. The staff was very sweet, even going out of their way to find us some earplugs. The only complaints I have are the place was packed- too packed for the times- it was super claustrophobic waiting shoulder to shoulder in 20 minute lines to get a drink or use the restrooms. They should remodel and do traditional restrooms, so more than one person can use them at once. Single occupancy rooms always create super long lines, because people take their time once they have a monopoly on the room. They also could use a lot more seating on their gravel patio. People were sitting on the rocky ground, that could not have been comfortable. I wish I'd gotten to try their wood fired pizzas, they smelled so good and had some creative combos. We did try the Carmel cheese Windy City popcorn, turns out it was made in Bloomington MN. It was pretty good and at $5 not too bad a deal. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Ursa Minor has such a cozy and friendly vibe! The staff is super personable, and the atmosphere is the best! They have plentyyy of game options which I took full advantage of, and their merchandise is also great! All of their shirts are comfort colors which I love, and the hammock is seriously beautiful!! Now onto the drinks-- I love all of the fun names! Platform Nine and Three Porters tasted awesome and sounded cute!! I even tried the lavender kombucha, and I am not usually a kombucha gal but I really enjoyed it! They have truly thought of everything here-- there are little constellations everywhere! The patio also has cozy fire places that are a perfect place to spend your evening! The pizzas and pretzels even have you covered for dinner!!

Yelp
Great pizza. great beer. an OK seltzer; could use a bit more flavoring, couldn't hardly taste the mango in it at all. Fun atmosphere
google avatar

Susan K.

Yelp
Not our favorite place after trying many spots in Duluth over the past five weeks. The beer was fine but the glasses were somewhat warm so the beer was not cold. The food was extremely average. The pizza was dry and tasted like tomato sauce without flavor. We love Duluth's Best Bread but the pretzel tasted stale. The women who helped us select our beet acted like she was doing us a favor. Service is always better when the customer tips. Ursa adds the tip to the check; I suspect so they can legally share the tip totals with all staff not just waiters. Then they push hard for an tip extra. They push a screen in your face without the option to select no extra tip. I just signed and pushed a button that said "paper receipt" and the transaction was over. Did I mention our tab was $47 for two beers, small pizza, and pretzel?

Yelp
We have been told to go there to eat. We've been there for beer. Last week we traveled to the North Shore from Orlando, FL. We went to Ursa Minor specifically for lunch. We ordered our pizza "well done." My goodness it was burnt to a crisp. I could not believe anyone would even serve it like that. We had our 14 month old grandson and he needed to eat. We finished our beer, threw out the pizza and went to the Duluth Grille which is ALWAYS GREAT.
