I just had to write an update, and give another star, because we went again this weekend and were SO IMPRESSED with the outdoor patio for winter conditions! There's a tent with heaters in addition to several fire pits on the patio, with tables adjacent so you can eat the most delicious wood fired pizza in the area! We ordered The Nomad, and swapped the sausage for basil. House pickled red onion, oyster mushrooms, parmesan, mozzarella, YUM. You have to eat it super fast if it's cold outside though, which was not a problem for us. We loved our server Leah, she was so kind and attentive. She even came out and stoked our fire with more wood without us asking. We should have gone back the next night for dinner again, instead of the terrible meal that we had at Canal Park. Kicking ourselves!
Previous review: We had a great time at Ursa Minor last night! We had only intended to stop for one round, and then continue hopping breweries and tasting all we could in the very brewery-prolific West-end Duluth. But when we realized there was a band setting up, complete with a horn section, we decided to stick around and enjoy some live music. What a treat! The band was very entertaining. And the beers were pretty good too. My favorites were the Pontoon Pounder (a mild sour) and May Flowers. I tried all of the sours, but didn't care for the strongest one or another more floral one. The staff was very sweet, even going out of their way to find us some earplugs. The only complaints I have are the place was packed- too packed for the times- it was super claustrophobic waiting shoulder to shoulder in 20 minute lines to get a drink or use the restrooms. They should remodel and do traditional restrooms, so more than one person can use them at once. Single occupancy rooms always create super long lines, because people take their time once they have a monopoly on the room. They also could use a lot more seating on their gravel patio. People were sitting on the rocky ground, that could not have been comfortable. I wish I'd gotten to try their wood fired pizzas, they smelled so good and had some creative combos. We did try the Carmel cheese Windy City popcorn, turns out it was made in Bloomington MN. It was pretty good and at $5 not too bad a deal. We will definitely be back!
