A Complete Guide on Hiking the Inca Trail in 2025

"The trail’s gentle start — described as 'Inca Flat' — follows alongside the Urubamba River through the Sacred Valley, meandering through trees and scrub as it slowly gains altitude and introduces hikers to the region." - Matthew Kepnes

We went white water rafting last week at the end of June. We were worried that the water would be too cold but they gave us wetsuits and jackets. The rafting was amazing with the view of sacred valley. We were a party of 8 and all had an amazing time. The river was clean and the Rapids were fun. The water was cold but we dried up quickly with the sun. The temperature was in the 70's with sunny clear skies. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip.

Stayed at the Qawana Lodge located along the Urubamba River. A beautiful place with stunning views of the Sacred Valley. The sounds of water roaring in the background are something truly wonderful when you get to sleep in such close quarters.

Beautiful landscape river. Play a essential role to Machu Picchu. White water rafting is great.

Near this river basin is located the Camisea Field, Peru's largest confirmed natural gas reservoir which was discovered by Royal Dutch Shell Company in 1986. No exploration or excavation has commenced however, since Royal Dutch Shell was unable to reach an agreement with PetroPeru (Peru's State Owned Energy Company) So where does Peru's gas for consumption come from today??

Just wow! We rafted the rapids here with a tour guide. The guides were great at explaining how and what to do in rapids. They made us laugh and feel comfortable- they showed us a spot to cliff dive from and that was the highlight. It’s just so beautiful too.
