I've been shopping at this store for years, as a caterer it's invaluable to our operations. We've seen terrific staff come and go (Tim, we miss you!) but it's always been a consistent positive experience for me at the store. The crew there now are the best. Their management team- Jerwin, Aaron and Erik are just terrific. They care about their store in a way I don't see much these days (especially knowing this store is one of many owned by a corporate entity). As does the rest of the team- Calvin, North, and all of the others whose names escape me right now. Customers are greeted by name, they know the businesses that shop there (and not just in a superficial way- these guys eat at the businesses this store serves) and are always able to provide info about product quality, availability and some witty banter to make your day better. I also want to give a special shout out to Aaron. He's picked many of my orders and I've had the best in store experience anytime he's there. He knows the store's products inside and out. He's also reached out to me while picking orders when inventory was low to give me a heads up and offer some alternative options. That is above and beyond service. He doesn't have to do that. But he cares, so he does.

Google
This was a pleasant surprise. It is like a Costco for food except without the hassle of a membership, the crowd, the labyrinth of aisles, the checkout inspection, etc. Rather, this is a simple park, shop and go experience. The store was clean. The produce I saw was fresh and not at its expiration. I asked the checkout where to locate an item and he was quite helpful. He even asked to help me with getting my purchase to the car. And the prices were quite reasonable. Certain a place to return to for food staples

Excellent prices on a variety of food, beverage, and related products. The people are always friendly and provide great service. They carry great quality products, typically in larger quantities or sizes.

Google
I came here specifically for Torani syrups to mix my Italian sodas, as my godmother took me to a different location to help with her friend's restaurant and I remembered the Torani section being robust. I ended up coming out with my syrups, some cinnamon, a box of coffee pods and a new saucepan to replace the one that fell apart. The only complaint I have is for the lack of grenadine, but for the massive selection of Torani (and other syrups) they did have, it's minor. This store may not as big or have as wide a selection as Costco, but I could find what I needed and the staff was friendly and great to talk with, too. I'd definitely suggest going here if you're regularly mixing drinks and need a good selection of syrups and creams.

Google
I'm just a 'me', not a 'we', so a Costco membership just isn't necessary. So when I was tasked with getting refreshments for a work-related event, I went to Chef'Store and was not disappointed. The price points were comparable to Costco (I checked online) and there was plenty of selection (not vast, but good enough) and NO MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED. They also have refrigerated rooms with meats, vegetables and juices, as well as a nice selection of produce. They also have kitchen utensils. The store is very neat and clean - very organized and easy to navigate. The staff was friendly and very helpful. I will definitely visit again, perhaps for frozen fruit and other items I tend to buy multiples of at the grocery store. Doesn't hurt to save a few pennies! And it's a block away from Trader Joe's, so it makes for a convenient shopping trip for all the things!

Google
Where else in Ballard can you buy three pounds of clams, a 48oz bag of chopped broccoli, everything for gyros and enter to win a sweet custom bike. They also have outstanding customer service and will order products upon request 😀

Yelp
I went in there today to get a piece of janitorial equipment me and the young gentleman in the front worked out what I exactly needed and I like the product but it was a little damaged at the bottom for not being stored correctly so we called over the manager to see if I can get a discount. The manager told me yes he would give me 50% off I said thank you he went to get the utility knife to cut the mat that I want it and when he retired, he cut the bad part off, rolled out the mat cut 7 feet what I needed and then charge me full price. I snatched my credit card out in barest in front of everybody and told him you just told me you was giving me 50% off. He didn't wanna honor what he just told me so now he said he was gonna throw it away and I wasn't getting nothing since I didn't want to pay full price wow.

Yelp
There's a lot of practical restaurant related things you can come here for. Whether you run a restaurant or a small coffee shop, you can likely find the thing you need here. But you can also find extremely itself things for your home kitchen! I needed steak knives. I went to multiple household departments of major store chains, only to find that the only knives they sold were either butter knives bundled with full sets of spoons and forks, or big knife blocks for $70+ that also included many other knives that I was not in need of. So I decided to give a restaurant supply shop a shot. $6 later I had 12 absolutely solid restaurant quality steak knives in my possession. My utensil drawer overfloweth. There was no smaller quantity available, but beggars can't be choosers I suppose. The bottom line is that I can now cook and serve steak for 12 PEOPLE without having to wash a single utensil. Except forks. I think I need more forks now... but the good news is that I know a place!

Yelp
I go to this location every other day for our coffee shop supplies. They always have good stock of what we use. Great prices on all milk products with a big selection of alternative milks. The staff is great and I have never had a negative interaction with them. It's too bad that so many of their customers don't bring the carts back into the store after they load their groceries. Even if it's close to the front door I see these lazy customers just leave it in the middle of the sidewalk and drive away. 5 star location! 5 star staff!!

Yelp
I recently discovered Cash & Carry and it's become a new favorite go to spot for groceries! First, unlike other restaurant supply stores, you don't have to own a restaurant to shop at cash & carry. Everyday customers can enjoy the bulk items at very good prices. It's like a treasure hunt every time we come and it's quite amusing seeing some of the bulk items - like a 1 gallon container of Tabasco. One of our favorite items to purchase here are blueberries. You can get a very large pack for a good price. Also on the list is the 30 count pack of bottled Talking Rain sparkling water for $10.

Yelp
Great place to buy things in bulk, or not. They have plenty of items that sell by single units too. It is chilly in the fridge! Deli and vegetables are stored in the walk in coolers. They have restaurant related products from utensils, syrups, cleaning products, and of course food. Check out process is pretty fast, and they offer to put your items in boxes It's comparable to Costco but on a much smaller scale, and not as pretty. Also, no memberships. Parking- street.

Yelp
I like Cash & Carry. Sometimes you just need a gallon of Egg Nog or a 2 lb bag of salad. Some of their items are priced really cheaply, others are not so cheap if you break down the price per unit. If you're a savvy shopper, you will know what's a good deal and what's not. But I guarantee you will find something you want / need! Last time I was here I got sliced Tillamook cheddar, a big mixed salad, berries, and dairy products. Some of the quantities are not unreasonable for a family or couple. Employees are friendly. It's definitely like shopping in a warehouse.

Yelp
This is a fabulous place with fabulous employees. It's kind of like going to Costco without all the crowds but still keeping all the good prices as it relates to food. Definitely a great place to buy in bulk because the prices are amazing. You can get a great meat selection just like the restaurants. What's really cool is, they have all those restaurant type utensils and pots and pans. I also love the fact they carry namebrand cases of sparkling water.

Yelp
Good store with a great manager. pleasure to shop here. Everyone tries to be super helpful.

Yelp
Who could complain about low prices for big portions? Cash & Carry has what you need for just about everything. Have a big family or prefer to stock up? Prices here for veggies and protein are great. Hosting an event? Buy serving platters, tongs, cutlery, tablecloths, paper plates, and more, here. Stocking up for your own restaurant or that second freezer in the garage? You're covered. Everything from cleaning supplies to fresh produce to the best candy aisle in Seattle, Cash & Carry has got you covered. It's like Costco (low prices and all) for people WITHOUT the push of a membership or an Amex card. I come here before hosting events. I tend to buy soda water, cocktail mixers, candy, plates by the case, cups by the case, and more. It's my go-to for bulk shopping.

Yelp
You need awesome stuff in bulk? Well this is the place for you! From paper towels, to chocolate chips, to beverages, to sauce, they have it all! Great for office and restaurant stuff. Easy to navigate around the aisles, the staff is friendly, the prices are good, stop on in and buy some great stuff in bulk!
google avatar

Yelp
Good place to go when the Trader Joe's two blocks away charges 2-3 times as much and is always crowded. Large quantities for small pocketbooks.

Yelp
You've gotta know how to shop smart at Cash & Carry. Some things are at incredible prices, and others are actually overpriced compared to Costco and even grocery stores (definitely Walmart and Fred Meyer). But those incredible prices, WOW! We're talking two bucks for 10# of potatoes, three bucks for 5# of apples, one dollar per pound for frozen chicken thighs...its crazy! Some items only come by the case, so you can't always get things in the quantities you want. I think some things are just there at the store for convenience, and are actually marked up to help Cash & Carry turn some sort of a profit. If you haven't been, check it out! I can't go more than a few minutes in there without the friendly staff asking if I have any questions or if I have found everything I need.

Yelp
I love Cash & Carry. If I don't want to make a trip to Costco and deal with a million people I can just drive down the street to Cash & Carry. It's obviously not as large as Costco but I think they do a good job of having a good selection of merchandise. On my last trip three things I noticed that they could improve on was lighting. I could barley read the labels because the lighting was so horrible down the aisles. And I do wish they had carts. I mean I don't own a business or restaurant but I do like to shop there and pick up bulk items for a get together or just to stock up. I would feel weird pushing a ginormous whatever those carts are called that they have there with only a container of ketchup & chips on it. And parking of course, anyone that has been to this location knows what I'm talking about. No parking lot just street parking. Regardless, I'll be back!

Yelp
Ah.. Cash and Carry - Ballard, the little store that could. I've been shopping here over ten years now. Sure the exterior is nothing if nondescript and the interior is a bit dingy, but within those walls beats the heart of a contender. Busier stores like Stoneway or Downtown can often feel impersonal, but little Ballard has to try harder. Just look at how much they offer, stacked up against bigger stores.. You don't see what you're looking for? They're quite responsive and are happy to order it in for you or stock it regularly if they have the room and it's viable. I love these guys! Sure, depending on the aisle, walk-in, time of day or even day of the week it may all seem a bit chaotic at times; but it's a small price to pay for BIG savings 7 days a week! Wonder how they can afford to keep their prices so low? Staffing is an obvious area. The upkeep is carried out by a VERY small group of guys, not like a retail grocery store, where a store employee may be found around every corner. The guys are generally quite congenial and polite, but they are almost always on task and seem to have little time for the "hand holding" retail shoppers are accustomed to. Cash and Carry, is a holdover from the days before debit, credit and checks became accepted standards of payment. So, it isn't just cash. They are open to the public, BUT the public should bear in mind that they are a "grocery store" for businesses first and retail shoppers second. So, if you walk in with retail i.e. SafeWay, QFC, etc expectations of ambiance and service, you're bound to be disappointed. Cash and Carry doesn't advertise and if you become aware of it and all it has to offer, it is a serendipitous find, indeed.

Yelp
Bulk purchases without the membership fee? I'll take it! Sure, it's no Costco, but it's great to have a C&C in the neighborhood when you're throwing a party and need supplies, or if you're just really craving jalapeno poppers in large quantities - I mean, what? Make sure you go with a LIST - or else you'll end up buying an extra large cookie sheet, a brick of cheddar cheese, disposable chopsticks, a jar of Maraschino cherries, and too much ranch to know what to do with. Not that I'm speaking from personal experience, but I can imagine that happening to somebody...

Yelp
As a daily user of Cash and Carry, I recommend them highly for any bulk food needs! Staff is very personable and friendly, helpful and even will load your car for you (at least at the Ballard one).
google avatar

Yelp
Not a fan of this C and C-too dark and gloomy with limited stock. I prefer Plum St location right off Rainier or maybe downtown location on 4th.
google avatar

Melanie R.

Yelp
I typically describe Cash and Carry as Sam's or Costco without the membership fee, Saturday hordes, and long drive. We hit up the Ballard location, but they seem to be tucked away all over the city - making it super convenient to stop in. Anything you need in bulk, or maybe not bulk - find it here: fruits and veggies, pre-made soups, party ware, soy sauce, tortillas, Trident, industrial serving ware...the list goes on. Here's how it works: you walk in, you marvel at all the cool stuff you both do and don't need, you buy your stuff, and scoot - just remember to bring bags, or use the old boxes they have lying around to carry it all out. This location in particular makes it such an easy place to stop in - within 2 blocks of Trader Joe's, Fred Meyer, Bev Mo, Office Max, Top Pot, LA Fitness, Maritime Pacific. Just go on a Saturday Ballard bender and get your to-do list knocked right on out.

Yelp
This store has saved us many times, and with many different businesses I used to work with. I love Cash and Carry for the simple reason of humility. There are no pretty aisles, no beautiful checkers to gawk at (no offense to the ones working here), no dazzling displays or banners or anything like that. In fact, what you have is basically industrial--Lowe's shelving, five or six high, in fact, stocked full of everything in their natural packaging with merely the boxes cut open for display, then stuck on the shelves. Very, very well priced, and you cannot feel you got ripped off here. Not at all. The problem with shopping here is that once you see the prices, which are anywhere from 5% to 50% below grocery store prices, you could easily break your budget on just one visit. For example, a 36-count box of Milky Way bars, $29, bought because you happened to have a sweet tooth at that very moment. A case of Rockstar, $22--far better than even the two-for-$4.00 at the convenience store. And they have professional grade cookware and cutlery here, and not the flimsy stuff they sell at Safeway. Cutting boards, chef's knives, ladles, silverware--just about anything you need. Like, equipment that I use in my very profession. The REAL stuff. The shopping carts themselves are almost big enough to land a helicopter on--okay, not QUITE that big, but that's because you will see many small business owners saving 20% over Sysco or FSA prices by shopping at Cash and Carry. NO--you do NOT have to have a business to shop here, and YES they do take credit and debit cards, even if you are an ordinary Joe or Jane just trying to buy things in commercial sizes, or in bulk, without having to pay a Costco annual fee. Make sure you have room in the trunk before you shop here. You've been warned.

Yelp
Love this place for the prices on coffee syrups. I purchase large quantities of syrups for coffee & Italian sodas and the prices here are less than half the amount at regular retail and about 25% less than most online wholesalers. The DaVinci brands are my favorite and run $3.79 which is a lot better price than $7.99 retail and $5.99 online. I also like purchasing bar supplies at this location. The only reason why I took off one star was that it has a very small area for bar supplies and last week the bulk cold cuts coloring looked bad. Usually their meats are really fresh but this time around it looked old and probably should have been tossed. For the most part I love this chain of stores including their Smart & Final chain in California.

Yelp
If you're hosting a party, this place more than likely has what you are looking for. I have never had the opportunity to visit one of these establishments till last summer. I went in with my husband and wow, I am amazed with their selections of meat, coffee products, and assorted frozen food. They even have restaurant serving type equipment for sale. If you need some ideas on what to cook for a party that accommodates 6 or more people, this is your spot. It's like Costco, except without the membership.
google avatar

Yelp
This post is stricly for the customer service, or lack thereof. Granted, the place has great deals on certain items. That being said I've never had a pleasant experience with the folks who work there. 0 for 5 so far. The latest was the topper. I checked my reciept after leaving and noticed they charged me for 5 packs of V8, and I only got 4. I went back inside and literally argued with the guy for 10 minutes to get it refunded! He thought I was trying to steal a pack of freakin' V8! As if I have the time to argue with you over $3.79. It was a matter of principle you a$shole! After finally convincing him to refund the money, he made some smarta$s comment as I left about "that's on the house". Unbeleivable. I wanted to take him outside and....well. I'm not a violent person. Anyway, be warned of very rude staff.
google avatar

Theresa B.

Yelp
If you are hosting, this is a pretty sweet place to get what you need. To go containers, fancy plastic ware, bulk portions for cafes or convenient stores. Maybe stock up your snack bar. If you do that have a Sams Club or Costco membership, this would be a good stop for some of the food.
google avatar

Jessica K.

Yelp
Wow, this place is great, how did I not know about cash & carry so close to home?!? Went in quickly due to a jello shot emergency (had jello and alcohol, ran out of containers to put them in - yes, big emergency) and they had just what I needed - little plastic condiments containers with lids! I didn't have too much time to browse since I had to tend to my 911, but looked like a smaller Costco with frozens and even produce. Best of all, no big lines, I was in and out in 5 mins! Awesome!
google avatar

Kat F.

Yelp
This store is crazy! I bought a million gallons of plain vinegar for like a dollar! (Actually I think it was 5 gallons for about $4 but whatever. I clean with the stuff; it's nice to have a lot of it on hand.) If you need several pounds of meat or cheese for a party, they've got that too. Need oil and vinegar bottles for your restaurant? You can buy a four pack! It's kind of a random selection, but it's a fun shopping experience if you've got time to browse and aren't going off of a specific list.

Yelp
*once again, I am in love with this place *been looking for pre shelled hard boiled eggs and they custom ordered 12 dozen for me, booya! let the pickling ensue *makes me happy to know a place like this exists in this world

Yelp
I went in to buy table clothes for an auction and they were one short. They were extremely helpful and went up and above to help me out and get the extra one in time for my auction! I was pleasantly surprised when I walked out the door! 6 Stars!
