Banks Aren’t Ready to Handle Small-Business Stimulus Loans | Eater

"Due to start distributing $350 billion in coronavirus-relief loans under the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), this agency is overseeing government-guaranteed loans for businesses with fewer than 500 employees to cover payroll, rent, utilities and mortgage interest. Loans are capped at $10 million or 2.5 times a business’s average monthly payroll (excluding salaries over $100,000), and can potentially be forgiven—particularly when used for payroll—though final guidance on forgiveness had not yet been issued. The PPP represents a much larger potential lifeline than separate disaster grants of $10,000 available to affected small businesses." - Caleb Pershan

For months now they automatically disconnect your call after getting past the main menu on their phone system. These seems to be by design.

The Small Business Administration doesn't care about people. I am 70 years old fraud has been done against me. The Small Business Administration turned this into my social security on a loan I never made. My identity has been stolen 2 times once with my social security check and now someone took a loan out under my name I never made. I have been trying to get this straighten out but the Small Business Administration won't return calls.

I really liked this place a lot. It lives up to its reputation in the best way. My only problem? I don't like paying for songs on a jukebox I can't hear. We asked the waitress to turn it up. She obliged, but you still couldn't hear it at alllll. It wasn't worth pushing the matter. But it did suck to waste money on literally nothing. Hopefully, they can turn it off when they don't want it to be played in the future.

Horrible experience that is costing me $29,000 dollars. I have tried to contact the SBA Denver going through the phone prompts and selecting prompt 2. I recieve a recording that my message will be returned when it is practical to do so. I have left approximately 6 messages during the past two weeks without even one being returned despite saying it was an urgent matter. I needed some information from the SBA to resolve a matter., and only the SBA could provide it to me. Since they have not returned my urgent message, I am not out this much needed money.

Dealing with a small business administration in Colorado Springs for the last few years has been a bad experience from beginning to end. We applied for a loan to buy our business and was turned down after waiting & 2 1/2 months of paperwork and communication. They let us know with a cold Voicemail saying nothing more than “your loan request has been denied.” Thanks!! We decided years later to give them another chance once we decide to purchase the building that our successful business was in! They will only loan half the amount you need so we got FirstBank to approve the first half (They are awesome to work with by the way) The sba on the other hand, beginning with the red tape/hoops we had to jump through in order just to get approved for a loan for HALF a commercial building has been the opposite! Then, every year we’re supposed to provide them with all our personal financial information, I guess to make sure we can pay? Consequently, I am now trying to rid myself of this organization by paying off and re-financing our loan with the bank (who is happy to do it by the way.) I have to pay six months of loan payments as punishment and $2000 in fees which total over $11,000 just to be released from this loan. We also have to wait two months for this loan payoff to close. I thought the small business administration exists to help local businesses? Now it’s clear they are more interested is helping their “private investors” rather than help small businesses. That’s why we use them in the beginning. Now, my view has seriously changed. Think twice people, think twice! This review is coming straight from someone they actually approved! How crazy I must be to think they are there to help the “little guys!” I can’t imagine how many are turned away!!!

I’ve had the WORST experience with the second PPP loan. I applied in January 2021 and was having customer service issues with the lenders they were working with not putting in my paperwork and the chief lending officer at the SBA said she would help me but she didn’t really do anything helpful and here we are in May and the money has run out and I’m still not funded! I had gone to my bank earlier this week but the money had already run out. I wish she would have just told me that Lendio wasn’t getting it done and to go to my bank months ago instead of 4 months of wasted time, frustrated and stress. There’s a difference between being polite/nice and actually DOING THE WORK TO GET THE DAMN THING DONE!

I'm having the same issues. I tried call them last year and gave up. I been trying again over the last month and giving up. I have a business idea and no way to find out what I can do. I'm getting older here, with disabilities, and no real income. What can we do if SBA Denver won't respond? Do we have to be registered with SBA to start a business? However, I'm looking to start a nonprofit.
