With the Chubby Cattle empire taking over SoCal, I'm surprised that NorCal doesn't have an equivalent of one yet (though I do know that a Mikiya exists), but if you want your wagyu ayce BBQ needs settled, this is the place the to go!
The plaza is disgustingly busy, since there's so many eateries there, so depending on the night, you may have to circle a couple times. My boyfriend put our party of 3 on a waitlist and we had to wait around 8:15 PM to be seated but in the mean time we were doing something else, which was perfect. I know there was a slew of chairs in the lobby waiting area for people to wait at.
Compared to other wagyu AYCE places that I've seen (Chubby Cattle, Hibiki in SoCal, it's not very decorated), outside from the waiting area wall behind the cashier, some of the door walkways, and what's hanging from the ceilings. Though, I guess that makes sense since they're trying to pack as many people in.
Everything is ordered via a QR code at the table and you keep adding it to your check out cart. It's limited 6 items per round, but they come out pretty quickly. We were also able to flag down servers for when we needed more water or sauces. Our grill plate was also changed throughout the night, however, it was swapped to a disposable one. Makes sense since it probably takes an eternity to wash the original ones. All of us did the Signature Menu, which was $35.99. Not bad for AYCE, especially if it's wagyu, AND in the Bay Area.
We ordered almost 1 of everything except for the chicken and thicker cuts as we were close to the last call for orders and closing. Big fan of the differently flavored beef shoulder cuts and the intestines aren't bad (bf is a big fan). The other cuts weren't bad either, ranging from tender shoulder, pork collar steak, and the thin pork belly. Brisket is brisket no matter where you get it, but I did notice that the second order had way more slices than the first, but overall, no big deal since it shrunk very, very small.
Before coming here we were gazing through the menu and we were planning on ordering the wasabi mayo cabbage salad, the sesonal veggie namul, and some other dishes, but they weren't available on the app, so I guess those will come later.
As for appetizers we did get, the takoyaki came out room temperature (meh...), chicken karaage was decent, and you can never go wrong with corn cheese or their veggie pancake. I think my only other issue was how oily and slippery random parts of the restaurant were, like where I was sitting even before I got there. Could easily get game ended.
In a world of the Chubby Cattle Empire, this isn't a bad stop, especially at the price point.
