"Va de Vi is the place to go for a glass of wine (or flight) in the warm Walnut Creek evenings. The wine selection is extremely international, meaning one can easily hopscotch between a California cabernet franc, a vinho verde from Portugal, or a riesling from Germany. One could go for a cheese plate, but Va de Vi is also a bistro, and there is an eclectic food menu to choose from if you’re feeling hungry after a glass or two." - Dianne de Guzman, Matt Lardie

"This bistro/wine bar has been a longtime local favorite, with its extensive list of wine flights and evident sense of humor, as displayed on the lengthy wine menu. The selections are eclectic, running the gamut from Italian classics like risotto to customer favorites like lechon and Alaskan black cod in a soy glaze. If you’re in the mood for a more classic food pairing with wine, there are three cheese plates to choose from while enjoying a glass (or flight) of wine from Napa, Italy, France, Australia, or more. There’s also a cute patio in the back if you’re looking to sit outside." - Dianne de Guzman

Va de Vi Bistro & Wine Bar in Walnut Creek offers an experience that excels in ambiance and presentation but falters in delivering consistent culinary satisfaction. The service was outstanding. Our server skillfully managed the tight 1.5-hour table turnover, ensuring we kept pace with the kitchen while still enjoying our meal. The hostess, equally adept, finessed a last-minute reservation with grace—commendable touches that showcased attentive hospitality. However, the food itself was a mixed bag. Each small plate impressed visually but largely disappointed in flavor, with the exception of the butternut squash soup shots. These provided a sip of autumn warmth, boasting rich, creamy textures and well-balanced spices. Unfortunately, they were served in glass shot glasses that became too hot to handle, delaying enjoyment. The risotto lacked the depth of butternut squash flavor and was under-seasoned, making for a forgettable dish. The braised short ribs, served with polenta, failed to justify their price point. A longer braise could have developed more robust flavors, but the portion size and execution fell short. The Brussels sprouts dish was similarly flawed—overwhelmed by the tangy bitterness of unsweetened pears and pomegranate seeds, with Greek yogurt exacerbating the imbalance. Only the cod stood out as a highlight, with impeccable preparation and flavor, though its $21 price tag demanded excellence. The restaurant’s aesthetics are well-curated, creating a sophisticated dining environment. However, one can’t help but wonder if the prime location is inflating prices and detracting from the emphasis on culinary quality. While the presentation of the dishes was professional, the flavors felt secondary, leaving diners to rely on ambiance to justify the premium cost. Va de Vi has potential but needs to refine its focus on delivering standout flavors to match its visual and atmospheric appeal.

Great wine selection and quick bites! We tried several appetizers they were really tasty. We let the waiter pick our flights and he did a great job! It’s a bit pricey but so is everything in this area.

This is one of the best restaurants I have been to in a while. Their outdoor sitting in a quiet bylane is especially enchanting! All of the entrées we ordered were really delicious, but we especially loved their house fries and their potato leek soup, served in shot glasses. We are already looking forward to our next visit!

I can’t believe I hadn’t heard of this place before. The food here is amazing, only downside is it’s quite expensive but that’s a given considering the quality . The exterior of the restaurant is super nice and secluded and I love the big tree feature. Only thing I did not like about this place was our server in particular who did not have a friendly attitude and was being rude to one of the cooks who did not have very good English. But the other waiters who we interacted with were very friendly. Personal favorite dish was the beef cigars!

This was our second time visiting this restaurant. I love the atmosphere, we sat outside and it was lovely. Service was fast and our waiter was very nice. I would’ve given the service five stars if our server would’ve checked on us more often. We ordered several different items and only one lived up to the taste, presentation, and price point. The other dishes that we had were lacking flavor and were below mediocre We ordered the following items. Pork Belly Lechon Grilled Asparagus Frittes (fries) Bacon wrapped prawns Blondie for dessert The pork belly was amazing. It was cooked to perfection, the rice was delicious with the sauce. That dish was a five. The asparagus was by far the worst item we ordered. It was embarrassing on how tiny the asparagus was and how few you got for that price. I could not believe that they would serve that to a customer. It was ridiculous. I wish I took out my phone and took pictures. Do not order this item if you go to this restaurant. I buy asparagus in the grocery store regularly. I’ve never seen anything that small and they only give you a few. The prawns were salty and the sauce was lacking flavor. Thank goodness, we ordered the fries, at least those were hot and filled our belly’s lol I decided to order a dessert for the table, that was a huge mistake. The Dessert menu said this item would take 20 minutes to make. We’ve had Blondies in the past and I remember how delicious they were so I decided to splurge…Well, it came out in a skillet, it was overcooked, and it tasted like overcooked butter cake. It was not good at all and definitely not a Blondie.

This place is very busy. We made reservation for outside on line. It started busy already. The host arranged a nice table. The environment looks like a beautiful garden. The food we ordered are fantastic.Braised Beef Short Rib,Beet salad ,Alaskan black cod, Dessert samplers platter Cheese platter . Very tasty! Good service! All in all they are worth to have a try!

This restaurant is a gem, especially if you enjoy dining al fresco. The outdoor area is beautifully designed, offering a relaxing and picturesque setting with ample greenery and comfortable seating. It's the perfect spot to savor your meal on a sunny day or a pleasant evening. The food is equally impressive, with a menu that boasts a variety of delicious options. The beet salad and miso ginger code topped on a potato cake were divine. Overall, the combination of excellent food and a fantastic outdoor ambiance makes this place a standout choice for any meal.

While we were visiting Lafayette, we enjoyed a fabulous dinner here. The service was excellent, Drinks delicious, but the food...was outstanding. The small plates were perfect for our group of four. We all were able to taste each plate, and went away feeling very satisfied. The Tuna, Scallops, Cod and Pork Belly were fantastic. Not to mention the two orders of deserts. Thank you Va De Vie.

Yelp
Came in on our anniversary back in July and loved our experience. Our server turned out to be one of our favorites from another restaurant so that was a lucky surprise. Service was impeccable from start to finish-- thanks, Cooper! Va de Vi is located next to Tiffany and Co. in the heart of downtown Walnut Creek. It is the perfect place for get togethers with friends, but also has the ambience for a romantic evening for couples. The outdoor courtyard is stunning-- inside is dim and intimate. The menu is eclectic and designed for sharing small plates. My husband and I enjoyed a few cocktails and several small plates including the Lechon-- crispy pork belly on top of rice cakes, pickled onion and sweet chili-soy glaze, my husband enjoyed this so much we ordered a second plate, we also ordered the Chicken Parmesan, the Adobo Pork Ribs, as well as the Dessert Sampler. It was the perfect location for us to celebrate our 24th anniversary, I look forward to returning again and again. Every detail was perfect from start to finish. Chef's kiss!*

Yelp
Like this small plates option in downtown Walnut Creek. The primary reservation I have about Va de Vi is the difficulty getting a reservation. In and of itself this is a complement to popularity. But sometimes the best ability is availability, and most of time I attempt to secure a reservation I find that 1) I cannot get one at Va de Vi, and 2) I can at any number of other great, nearby options. The wine selection is varied and well-selected, and the wine flight options are an interesting alternative to many other local wine bars. Over the years I believe I've ordered almost every dish on offer, and have found the food uniformly good - although the term "small plates" is very appropriate here. As such, I find Va de Vi to be one of several options - a consistent possible, but not presently a "short list" go-to.

Yelp
Our favorite place for Mussels and Sangria! Their cod fish ceviche and rice crackers are lovely too! Absolutely love the ambience and wine selection. Ambience is classy and fun at the same time. This place is definitely are favorite for a nice quiet date night!

Yelp
My sisters and I had lunch here on a Sunday around noon. We made a reservation in advance, and were seated at arrival without delay, indoors since it's winter, though the setting outside looked beautiful. Service was professional and helpful during our visit, and the food we ordered came out quickly, several tapas for sharing. The meat dishes offered on the menu were quite diverse, featuring grilled new york steak, moroccan beef cigar, and even lechon. But I opted for the va de vi burger, bunless as the fries were already plenty of carbs to fill me up for lunch. The burger was juicy and well-seasoned, really good, and all of the ingredients went together nicely. One of the other items that stood out to me was the pancetta wrapped prawns, so yummy especially with the sauce, it packed a lot of flavor. We also got the crispy brussel sprouts, pommes frites, butternut squash risotto, braised beef short rib, and ahi tartare, and there wasn't a single item that we didn't think was outstanding. And can't forget the drinks... the passionfruit- pomegranate margaritas we got were delish!

Yelp
We went to Va de Vi for my birthday and enjoyed a wonderful flight of wines with a selection that paired well with the cheese plate. We also ordered the dessert flight, which was the most impressive dessert selection I have ever had! The ambiance was cozy and warm which was lovely on the rainy day. I would recommend if you enjoy wine in a beautiful dining room. The service was wonderful. Call ahead to get a reservation!

Sandy L.

Yelp
Vibes and ambiance are on point - I went here for a date night and it was a beautiful tucked in wine bar nestled in downtown WC. We had an rsvp and had to sit inside, I felt like the service forgot us a bit because it took them a while to take our order and check in on us. Evidently, when we did order, they also gave us the wrong dish and we flagged them down. That took awhile because she dropped the plates off and left. Out of the lechón, black cod, and steak - I would definitely choose the black cod. The lechón was paired with sushi rice that was too much on the vinegary side and the steak was a little salty. We also got some wine and they were fine as well. Not sure if I'd come here again but it is a very pretty place and nice to stop by for the wine.

Sarah Z.

Yelp
Such a wonderful time here! To keep it short: food was delicious and always came piping hot off the grill. The Va de Vi burger was JUICY and the highlight. Usually I'll skip the dessert menu but their dessert here is totally worth getting. We go the sampler for two (as many other people also ordered this) and everything was decadent. The wine? Soooo many selections. Great that they also have a sampler flights that come with generous pours. Indoor and outdoor seating. Service was friendly and attentive. Ambiance was romantic and cozy. Highly recommend!

Yelp
From making reservations to our dining experience, Va de Vi Bistro & Wine Bar in downtown Walnut Creek, receives my five star rating! After reading so many excellent and convincing reviews about this restaurant and not wanting to just experience "smell-o-vision", we decided to finally make reservations to try this restaurant ourselves. First off, Yooha is an outstanding server and very thorough with knowledge about the menu. They pay attention to dietary needs that I described in our reservation, which I completely appreciate. The staff were so kind to us, easy to chat with, and attended to all of our needs. We appreciate our dishes being cleared in such a timely manner without our even asking them to do this. For starters, as we talked about how beautiful and relaxing the outdoor dining ambiance is, especially with the calming fountain next to us, we enjoyed a creamy blue cheese baby gem wedge salad and a cacio e pepe biscuit, which was fluffy and a perfect pair with the salad. We ordered the butternut squash risotto, braised beef short rib, and alaskan black cod. The smooth soy glaze, ginger soy beurre blanc that the soft, fresh black cod and potato cake were surrounded by was a perfect blend of sweet and salty. The butternut squash risotto that we shared had such a sweet squash that balanced with our entrees. The braised beef was perfectly paired with creamy polenta. To top it off, Yooha surprised me with a birthday treat! Fresh from the oven, we devoured this delectable dessert that was the perfect size after we had stuffed ourselves with a sweet and savory, hearty meal. Thank you, Va de Vi team! We hope to experience such dining excellence again here with friends and family in the future!

Yelp
My mom and I are in town for a wedding...and a funeral. We wanted a lovely small plates meal and some drinks in a nice environment and--voila--Va de Vi! (I still can't remember the name without looking) The ambiance. Oh the ambiance. LOOK at my photo. Well, it doesn't do it justice. Absolutely lovely. We got there and my mom said, "can we stay 2 hours?" You feel like you're in a European alleyway, enjoying tapas and wine. The drinks. You can order wine (ofc), flights, beer, or even cocktails. Something for everyone. And I must say, my Empress gin cocktail was divine! There's more?! Why yes--the food!!! We ordered the pommes frites, as one does. They were The Art of French Fries. Crispy on the outside, yummily seasoned. You could have an aoli and ketchup. Do both--why not? But the piece de resistance was the black cod. IF BLACK COD IS ON THE MENU--GET IT! Perfection. Mic drop.

Yelp
Next time you're in Walnut Creek, this is a must-visit! The food is so delicious and always presented beautifully. Their menu changes seasonally. The wine flight is always a fun idea! The staff is very welcoming. If you're looking for a romantic date night spot or afternoon wine with friends, this is the place for you.

Yelp
This place is a gem! Cute little outdoor patio. Very charming decor. Our waiter came to get our drinks right away and made great recommendations. Very knowledgeable of their extensive wine list and flights. Tapas style restaurant so you get to order various plates and try lots of different dishes. We ordered the beet salad, the black cod, garlic noodles, skirt steak, and hamburger. Everything was delicious. My fave was the black cod- just bursting with flavor. The beet salad was interesting in that it had beet yogurt and granola in it. I don't think you can ever go wrong ordering skirt steak and hamburger. I don't think I would order the garlic noodles again. For dessert we did the tasting for two which came with the chocolate soufflé, profiterole, peach crumble, and the blondie. We really enjoyed the soufflé and the blondie so next time we will probably just order those and pass on the cream puff and crumble. Highly recommend this place for a nice date night and not so overcrowded like telegenic and rooftop across the street.

Yelp
Date: Sunday, April 29th, 2024 Time: 5pm Meal: Early Mother's Day Dinner / Anniversary Celebrations Party of: 6 *CHEESE PLATE ($24) *BISCUIT ($5) x2 *POMMES FRITES ($12): SIDE AIOL, SIDE KETCHUP *ASPARAGUS ($14) *BURRATA ($19) *AHI TARTARE ($19) *GARLIC NOODLES ($18) *GNOCCHI ($18) *RISOTTO ($19) *SKIRT STEAK ($20) *CHICKEN PARM ($18) *TACOS ($15) *LECHON ($18) *SHORT RIB ($20) *SHRIMP ($19) *SCALLOPS ($23) *MUSSELS ($19) *LUMPIA ($17) *DESSERT SAMPLER ($20) *ESPRESSO MARTINI ($16) *COFFEE($4) *COKE ($4) *Corkage Fee ($25) x2 Both my bro and parents live in the East Bay, so we all met up for an early Mother's Day dinner this past Sunday. I've been to Va de Vi quite a few times in the the last few decades. (Wow, do I feel old?!) Nice to support an older establishment given the current restaurant climate. I'm a huge fan of variety, so for me, tapas are always a good way to go. I can try like a million things! Tho I did find the menu a little unfocused given the offerings. Seemed like a bit of all cuisines - American, French, Asian, etc. I enjoyed the burrata, mussels, and asparagus. The burrata was creamy, the mussels plump, and the asparagus huge! It definitely hit all my food groups - cheese, animal, veggie. For those not fans of sweet and savory, I'd stay away from the lechon. It was waaay too sweet for my liking. I ended my meal with the Espresso Martini which was nicely balanced. Our server was amazing! I think he was running around taking care of the entire back area. We had to ask for a couple things a few times, but he was always so friendly and accommodating. He did give us two small complimentary desserts for our celebrations. (My anniversary was this month and my parents' is in May.) Nice place in WC to have group dinner. Tho do note, if you sit outside around this time of year, the trees will want to season your food as well. Lol!

Yelp
First time trying this place with friends. Food was tasty, dessert was Stella, and the vibes are trendy. I would go back.

Yelp
Va de Vi is the perfect getaway in the middle of Walnut Creek. Their seating inside is beautiful but the seating in the alleyway is dreamy and adds that touch of romance or twinkle. Don't worry, they have outside heaters for those who get cold too. The service was incredible! We felt extremely welcomed in the space and my partner was given happy birthday wishes that were written in the reservation. The staff were all lovely and are server was amazing! We enjoyed our wine flights and we were surprised that we liked all of the wines we tried! We tried their Pinot noir flight and their espana flight without cheese plate. If you love cheese, get the cheese plate! It was so tasty and the pairings on the plate were well put together to create different bites and flavor profiles. The mains we had were beautiful! The gnocchi was fresh and pillowy soft in a beurre blanc sauce with peas, pea shoots, and peas pods, with tons of cheese and sprinkled mint. So very tasty, fresh, and seasonal! Then we had the adobo ribs with garlic rice and when I tell you this was utterly scrumptious I mean it! We cleaned those bones and this dish, if it is still on the menu, we highly recommend it! To finish we had the dessert pairing for two and just loved the presentation as well as all of the four desserts presented. This was the perfect way to end our dinner. We will absolutely be back to try new dishes and share with our people! You know it's good when you tell stories of your meal and plan to bring more people the next time.

Yelp
Good wine selection and fun to do wine flights along with some bites. The ahi tartare was made Asian style and the ceviche with guacamole. Wouldn't say food were amazing but it was good enough to make a good night. Servers/bartenders were really busy on a Friday night. There's both indoor and outdoor seating. If not reserved in advance probably bar seating is the way to go. Ambiance was comfortable and slightly dressy.

Alli S.

Yelp
Sitting outside under the heater was so enjoyable. We didn't have a reservation and they were more than happy to still accommodate. Inside seating was a little chaotic so I and glad we were able to sit outside. Simple menu. Great drinks and wine variety. Server was very attentive and did a great job.

Karen N.

Yelp
Great outdoor setting, so pleasant under the tree with the koi pond and fountain. Great selection of wine flights with everything from Bubbles, international whites and various reds. You can even customize flights of your own with the 3 oz pours which I did switching out the Chardonnay for a sancere. Lots of options food wise, we had the cod, short rib Octopus, beet salad and garlic noodles. Loved everything except the noodles which looked more like a creamy pasta and left a strong garlic taste in my mouth. For dessert we shared the blonde which was huge served warm with ice cream in a little cast iron pan. Recommend sharing as it is really big. Service was great and personable with waters always tended to.

Yelp
The dudes birthday was in 12/30/23 . I called to make a reservation. Luckily they had availability that day at 8pm. We arrived and I LOVED the outdoor decor it was beautiful. I asked to be seated on the patio and was so romantic. Our server was so bubbly and friendly along with the team. The men were such gentlemen. I am not use to men opening doors anymore so it was nice to be waited on like a princess even though it wasn't my birthday. Anywho, there was not alot of vegetarian options but there was if that makes sense. We ordered drinks. Absolutely delicious!!! The fig gin was so good paired with rosemary. It was the kick I needed that night. Absolutely tasty. The dude had his typical flair of a drink with bourbon. We ordered the biscuit and butter. Ummmm best tasting bread and butter I ever had!!!! 9/10 so addictive and flavorful. A MUST. It was salty, savory and flavorful. What I was craving. seasonings out of this world for breads! We also ordered the mac and cheese with sausage on the side . it was so tasty. 9/10 would order again so fresh! The street corn was bomb. I could eat that every day if I could. So flavorful. Lastly, the dude had the meat which he said was so tender, flavorful and would order again! Overall, we were overly delighted and satisfied. We are definitely coming back in heart beat. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Va de Vi always delivers. We slid in off peak hours and had a few wonderful dishes. Fantastic service with tremendous ambiance.

Robert C.

Yelp
Brought the family for small plates. It's been awhile since we've been here but it's always been good. It was pretty hot so we chose to eat inside. Our server was friendly and efficient. We ordered what seemed like one of everything- the standouts were the lechon, flat iron steak, miso cod, risotto, and ahi tartare. Mac and cheese was a little dry, as was the short rib. Service was attentive. One other negative... the couple next to us was extremely loud... the woman actually fell off her seat onto the ground. The manager checked on her in a very tactful manner, so kudos to her for handling the situation well.

Yelp
Va de Vi has become our go-to spot in Walnut Creek, and with good reason. Every visit is a delightful experience, made even better by the lovely and attentive staff who always make us feel welcome. We began our meal with the wine flights, choosing both the white and red selections. The white wine flight was crisp and refreshing, pairing perfectly with our lighter appetizers, while the red wine flight offered bold, complex flavors that complemented the heartier dishes. The pommes frites were a must-order for us, crispy and golden with just the right amount of seasoning. We loved them so much that we couldn't resist ordering a second serving! The Swedish meatball was tender and packed with flavor, served with a rich gravy that balanced sweet and savory notes. The seafood offerings were equally impressive. The grilled octopus was perfectly charred on the outside, tender and juicy inside, while the summer corn ribs provided a sweet and crunchy contrast. The pancetta-wrapped prawns were a highlight, with the smoky pancetta enhancing the sweetness of the prawns. For the main course, the charred marinated skirt steak was cooked to perfection, with a smoky, caramelized crust and a juicy interior. The risotto alla paprica was creamy and indulgent, with just the right touch of paprika to keep it interesting. We rounded off our meal with the Va de Vi burger, which was everything you could want in a gourmet burger--juicy, flavorful, and topped with ingredients that took it to the next level. The consistency and quality of both the food and service at Va de Vi are why we keep coming back. Whether it's a special occasion or just a casual night out, Va de Vi never disappoints. If you're in Walnut Creek, this is the place to go.

Yelp
My husband and I did an impromptu date day and wanted a nice place for lunch - so glad we came here! The food was fantastic. We liked everything we ordered. Started with soup shots! Hot but not too hot, you can drink it right away, it was served perfectly in a double shot glass. Would have loved a whole bowl of it. Brussel sprouts were great, nice char on them for a crunch, huge chunks of bacon, which I prefer than the tiny minced pieces so you can choose if you want to eat the bacon pieces or just get that flavor in the dish. Fries were solid kennebec fries, not overpowering with garlic and well balanced. The Chicken Parmesan was so tasty - the crisp on the outside of the chicken stayed crunchy even though it was plated on a bed of marinara sauce. It was served with Aleppo chilies which had a kick that was fantastic so didn't need to ask for crushed red pepper. The cod was too fishy for me but my husband said it was "5 out of 5", perfectly cooked, melt in your mouth, there was a lot going on on the plate but all the flavors blended perfectly. Old fashioned was a 4/5 - a big ice cube versus small pieces of ice would have made a difference Wish we got to sit inside but we didn't have a reservation and even the bar was full. So definitely plan ahead if you'd like to be seated indoors on a busy Saturday. They have very cute outdoor seating with sufficient heat lamps, but it was still cold due to the weather (not anyone's fault). Can't wait to be back for their seasonal menu changes!

Yelp
Brunch was amazing! Every single dish was so good!! we had the Alaskan cod, the short ribs, and the beet salad and all were spectacular! the ambience of the restaurant is really nice, we even made some friends sitting next to us! Our waiter was attentive and helped us make some great selections. I will definitely be back!!!

Monica L.

Yelp
This majestical place is located in a corner where the waterfalls and led lights make a picturesque night for you and your loved ones! I love coming out here for a night out to enjoy great selections of wine and cocktails. The entire downtown scene has many places to walk around and enjoy the winter nights. The bartender was attentive to our needs, and provided great service given she was so busy! The ambiance was elegant, but the music had a variety of different genres for every one to enjoy, from country to old school 90s! We ordered the Burrata, spicy noodles, and the lechon. The Burrata was good and was my favorite! The spicy noodles were very..... different. Kind of like pasta with spicy chilli slapped in the top - not my favorite - and the portion was small compared to how large the price was. The lechon was made perfectly, but I didn't like the pickled veggies with it, or the rice, or the sauce. I am very selective with my lechon. Over-all, would most definitely come back for drinks! Order the wine flight because their selections are pretty neat.

Yelp
The ambiance at Va de Vi Bistro & Wine Bar is quite honestly amazing. The patio seating is extremely comfortable, it's airy, not too loud, and has heaters. It's just a really nice vibe. I loved their dessert, especially the pear gelato, but also really enjoyed the brussels sprouts. The one star loss is because I don't enjoy their drinks. I've tried their french kiss wine flight (all three were too dry), their Millie Waffles (unmemorable and bland) and their midnight coffee (too heavy a pour). I thought the honey would enjoy the midnight coffee and surprisingly he agreed with me. It's just too heavy a pour to be enjoyable. All in all, I think it couldn't hurt Va de Vi to bring in a new mixologist but that being said, I enjoyed my visits and would absolutely drop in again.

Nicolette S.

Yelp
Wow. The atmosphere is perfect, fountains and music, outdoor tables. The service was professional and friendly. The food was excellent. Everything we shared was amazing!

Holly H.

Yelp
This place has a beautiful shaded outdoor seating with an inviting ambiance. The small plates menu is a delightful array of flavorful and great for sharing. The highlight of our order was Charred Marginated Skirt Steak. The service was impeccable, with a friendly and attentive staff. Perfect for a leisurely and memorable dining experience.

Laura A.

Yelp
Delicious tapas, relaxing patio tucked away off the street, good wine and service - this place is a gem! Everything was sooooo good! My favorites were probably the black cod and lechon. We tried quite a few dishes and almost all were prepared flawlessly, served at just the right pace and portions enough to share amongst friends leaving you completely satisfied with the richness and flavors of each dish. The outdoor patio and water features leave you feeling like you are tucked into a small intimate and lush oasis, not in downtown Walnut Creek. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Great food. Even better service. I've been here a few times now, and it never disappoints. On our last trip, we were grabbing a light lunch and a glass of wine before we went to the movies nearby. We didn't have a reservation, but were seated right away anyway. We sat inside as it was cold outside, and from our seats you could see the kitchen and watch as they prepared the dishes. Our server was friendly and funny, and made us feel welcomed right away. We ordered the burrata, green beans, and a burger to share. The burrata came with bread and various accompaniments (tomatoes, avocado, quinoa), and it was delicious making different bites. The green beans had an Asian-style sauce, with soy and garlic I believe. The sauce was so good - I ended up eating the green beans and then dipping the fries from the burger in the leftover sauce! The burger was juicy and we enjoyed it as well. Savory goodness. We each ordered a wine flight, and our server was knowledgeable and helpful in picking one out. For dessert, they have a sampler that lets you try 4 different options. Our favorites were the pumpkin stuffed beignets and the chocolate soufflé, but the apple tart tatin and the cheesecake were very tasty as well. I loved the variety. It is a short walk from the parking lot next to the movie theater - a perfect spot to grab a bite before or after.

Yelp
We very much enjoyed our lunch at Va de Vi this past week. Without reservations, we happily joined them at the chef's table in the back. We tucked into the cozy corner and delighted in watching them cook all of the delicious food. We shared several small plates between the two of us and shared the chocolate soufflé for dessert. The winner hands down was the baby kale salad. Each bite was a fantastic explosion of flavor. The fried kale ends were amazing! We also enjoyed the scallops and carrot plate. The bone marrow risotto was good, but our expectations for that dish were higher. While we do not live close enough to make it a regular hang out, we will definitely seek it out when we are in the area! The ambiance, food, and service are top notch!

Yelp
"You telling me that wine is better than Pepsi? Huh, no way wine is better than Pepsi." - George Costanza, Seinfeld da Scene: Last minute lunch since we had to go to Kaiser Park Shadelands. Slipped right in via Open Table. Beautiful day, but the outside tables were taken. Always busy on nice days. da Grub: Everything was executed well, Artichokes, Ahi, Calamari, Scallops, Gnocchi, Steak and fries, finished with the souffle... a tad small for the price, but great flavors! da Service: Seated quickly, wine flights came quickly, and Grub was paced well. Just as we finished, 2 more plates came, and so on. Consistently good, great setting, can't go wrong!

Yelp
Summary: I'd go back and try other small plates. (We came on a Sunday for lunch) Food: we ordered: Risotto, Lechon, Saffron Mediterranean Mussels, Charred Marinated Skirt Steak If I were to put these in order of my fav to least fav, it will be: Lechon, Mussels, Risotto, Steak. All small plates we ordered are good. From the sauce to the spices to the meat, all worked together perfectly. Nothing was overpowering. The meat/seafood all juicy and tender, cooked properly. I almost forgot I am on a diet. Drinks: hot water, tea, Bubba Boat (gin), Red Wine Flight They have a variety of tea selection but not a large list, just basics. Bubba Boat is good, like dangerously good because to me it tastes like a summer drink - so refreshing. All ingredients were balanced. The red wine flight, I did not try, but according to my friend who loves red wine, it's was ok - just ok. Not bad but not knock her socks off either. Service: Everyone, except for one, was friendly, polite, and professional. But just to inform management, our neighboring table asked for a napkin thrice. It was a patient old man. Something spilled on their table so he used his napkin. The napkin never came. Or if it did, it came after they finished their food because the third time he asked, I know for a fact that they were already done eating. Ambiance: the side alley reminds me of Italy. Cute and romantic. I wanted to sit there but it was too cold. For an old lady like me, I won't survive. Bathroom: two single bathrooms and all gender. Not a fan of those, but clean enough. Parking: street parking or you can park at the Nordstrom/Macy's structure or at the Cinemark structure - 5 mins and 3 mins walks, respectively.

Yelp
As a chef with experience in Michelin-starred restaurants specializing in elevated comfort food, I truly enjoy this place. Every item on the menu is delicious, and the wine selection is quite impressive. The desserts are exceptional - their pastry chef deserves high praise " they really milking a cow back there" lol... No matter where you sit, the scenery is beautiful. The staff provide excellent care and attention.

Yelp
We had an overall pleasant dining experience with good food, service, and ambiance. The dishes were fairly small and were brought out as soon as they were ready, rather than following the typical starter-to-main course sequence. We ordered thinking one was a starter and the other a main, so the timing was a bit off from what we expected.

Yelp
Stopped in at the bar and had the sparkling wine flight and ahi tartare. both were nicely presented and delicious. More importantly, Sarah the bartender was fantastic. She served the entire bar area (which included the bar top and entire adjacent section of tables - which was full) attentively with charm and professionalism. I ended up seated at various times between two difficult parties. One woman complained a glass of white wine had turned - no ma'am, it's the wasabi aoli and four other exotic dishes in front of you you've eaten since your first glass. Nevertheless, Sarah apologized and insisted on pouring her a fresh glass even after the woman's husband pointed out her mistake. Then, another solo drinker sat next to me and had an issue not just with her flight, but with her dish. The kind of diner that unfortunately comes in intending to have an issue. Sarah did not flinch and handled it with ease and much more patience than I would have. I was impressed and am looking forward to coming back to the bar next time I'm in town.

Yelp
Love the variety of wine flights. Small plates also great but overpriced. Staff always open to make suggestions which can be really helpful. Bar at the chef's section is fun.

Yelp
The wine flights are great and fun to try. However don't go hungry. I ordered a $22 bowl of cupping and it had. 2 shrimp and maybe 5 spoons of broth. However at least 6 slices of nread! I have many other examples if this. Yes prices have gone up. It thus was ridiculous!

Yelp
My friend and I came here on a rainy night and to start with, I love that they have wine flights, but that you can also basically create your own and there are tasting pour options, as well as, full sized pours! My wines were good. One of my friend's pours tasted off so we asked the waitress and she kindly took it back and then turns out the bottle was corked. Given how kind the server was and how she handled the situation with zero fuss, extra points for that! We ordered a salad, mussels and short rib. I wasn't much in a salad mood, but the mussels and short rib were delicious! The mussels had a lovely sauce and the short rib was so soft and tender! I also got a shot of the pumpkin soup and that was perfect! Lastly, we finished with the chocolate soufflé, which was delicious!

Yelp
Great place. Food is very good, ordered beat salad, short rib and Alaskan Cod. Everything was really good. Fast and friendly service. The only "off" is the choice of wine-no high end wines on the menu. But we are coming back.

Yelp
Just another one of those restaurants that I have been a repeat customer for years without ever writing a review. Until now! A bit pricey. But perfect for date night. I've stopped in for drinks only, a full meal, or even just to have dessert before. The environment is fun, but staff can seem a bit overwhelmed sometimes. I enjoy that they always have different specials on the menu. From spring cocktails or new seasonal veggies.

Yelp
Great ambiance, their outdoor seating is one of my favorites in downtown Walnut Creek. Very charming and romantic, perfect for date night. We ordered the Alaskan Black Cod, Beet Salad, Spinach Tart, Risotto, and Tuna Tartare. Most of the small plates were delicious! We didn't care for the risotto as there were little shards of bone from the bone marrow flavor. The service was okay, could have been more attentive as it wasn't a particularly busy evening All in all this is a great choice, it is a very small space so I would skip if with a large group. Teleferic is much better option for tapas and groups.

Yelp
The plates are small but around 20/25 each! Makes for great date night if you and your partner like to share, we also got the ceviche and hamburger, 5 plates and a drink $140 , the ambience is nice, service is great, love this place!

Yelp
Va de Vi is one of my favorite restaurants EVER - the food quality, ambiance, and experience are all top-notch. They change their menu seasonally to highlight the freshest ingredients. Also love their NA drinks menu and dessert options! Important to note that this restaurant is best for groups of 2-4 people max! It's an intimate restaurant and the plates are SMALL and intended to be shared. They have really great indoor and outdoor seating options - they do it better than most restaurants in the area do. Their servers are friendly and super knowledgeable, and the food comes out quickly. Even though the plates are small, I do feel the prices are fair for the quality of the food. Can't recommend Va de Vi more - perfect for a date or special occasion!

Yelp
Great place for small bites and a great wine list. Everything we ate was delicious and great to share. We tried a few wine flights which were great. Also with a beautiful patio! Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Came here for lunch with my husband and friends. Making a reservation is definitely recommended and we got seats in the back corner near the kitchen. They have outdoor seating for nicer days, which is nice. There's a small lot with meters next to this spot since street parking can get hard especially on the weekends. We ordered many dishes and were happy with all of them: pomme frites, scallops, spicy garlic noodles, lechon, grilled corn, Mac & cheese, and the Alaskan black cod. All were solid and had a bit of fusion to give it a unique twist. My favorite of them all were the spicy garlic noodles! A must-try! They're also known for their wine so my husband had a flight to try with our friend. Overall, I'd totally return and recommend :)

Yelp
Stopped in New Years Eve for our late lunch reservation at 2:30pm. We were seated directly in front of the restrooms by the hostess stand and every time the door opened we smelled a strong whiff of the deodorizer they use. There were multiple tables available across from the front bar area so we asked to be moved but the hostess was miffed. She seated us in the LOUD kitchen area, slammed down our menus and left. Not a great start. The arugula salad was very nice and a good value at $15, the cacio e Pepe biscuit we ordered was basically a scone, very salty and peppery at $5. The vanilla seared Hokkaido scallops were the star of the show, the texture of everything on the plate & flavors were perfection at $23. The off tasting Swedish tiny meatballs at $15 stole the show back away from us, awful doesn't begin to describe these. They landed on our table 2minutes after we ordered, swimming in a horrible tasting sauce. Iced tea was the opposite of fresh, would not order it again. Overall, everything was over priced, service was acceptable (except for sour hostess) tastes hit & mostly miss. We may return one day for those scallops and will be pickier on where we sit--makes a huge difference.
