SXSE Food Co - Review - East Congress - Austin - The Infatuation

"SXSE is a Lao food truck parked at Vacancy Brewing on St Elmo Road in South Austin. They serve a regular menu of dishes like rib-eye skewers, crispy fried rice, and chicken wings with a caramel fish sauce. They also do a ticketed, multi-course chef’s table meal—reservations required—that’s paired with beer from Vacancy. photo credit: Raphael Brion" - Raphael Brion

Google
Awesome microbrewery experience with great beer, a great vibe, and a great staff. Their beer is high quality with high compliments to their Hazy's, both their Hazy IPA and their Hazy Pale Ale. Would recommend for a chill brewery experience. They also had a pizza food truck outside that you can order food from inside.

Google
Visiting from Dallas and SO happy to have found Vacancy! This would definitely be a place I’d frequent if I lived here. Quite a few long tables and bar seating inside, outdoor picnic tables, WiFi available, the chillest vibe, and plenty of parking (thank god). Both hazy’s they had on tap were really nice and the bartender super friendly. I didn’t bring a kid or a dog but they both seem welcome here :) also didn’t get to try to food truck outside but I’ll definitely be coming back!

My sweet wife and I attended a private event at this amazing brewery. We’re from the PNW where there are many microbrewery options but I’ve never felt more welcome and appreciated than I did here. The owners/brewmasters were very busy with this event but greeted us warmly and continued to personally engage throughout the event. It was an open tap event with equally amazing tenders plus the food truck delivered many varieties of delicious pizza! The Dark Lager was my absolute favorite and certainly a very high bar for other brewers (like myself since 1994) to aspire to. These wonderful and unique people have worked for and earned every bit of their obvious success and we look forward to our next visit. If this is “Austin weird” I hope the chill yet competent vibe with loving acceptance of all people spreads like wildfire

Google
Brewery 6 on my brief Austin beer travels. This place is great. The tender, Carly was amazing. She really made the visit enjoyable and is very knowledgeable of the Austin beer scene. You should try this place out.

Google
Great live music on a Thursday evening. Some really refreshing hop water for those who don't drink alcohol, and a good selection of in house brewed beers. Clean bathrooms. Laid back atmosphere and pet friendly

Google
Little spot down south, but excellent beer, including GABF and Texas Brewers Guild winners (usually for their lagers). Crisp. Brightly colored decor, and with inclusive messaging. Should definitely be included in any Ben White brewery crawl, and could be the alternative to the others nearby if you're looking for something more intimate.

Google
It’s my third visit, and not my last. This is not a garden spot, since it’s an industrial area, but if you’re looking for great beer, fine folks, and a good food truck, this might be your place. My thing is ales, so I’ve enjoyed the IPA’s and Golden, but they also brew lagers. Dog friendly, family friendly, and a ramp to roll in. Someday I hope for a brewery tour, but for now I’ll just enjoy the beer!

Google
Such a great place to meet-up and enjoy a good beer or a cocktail! Friendly setting, with an outdoor patio and fresh air. Staff are very friendly, so Texas! A good location for a group, parking is a plus+ on that side of the road. There was a food truck on the day I visited, yummy Asian food that pairs really nice with their brews. St Elmo is getting better and better, and Vacancy is surely helping.

Yelp
Great spot with friendly staff and amazing beer. I loved the June Pilsner and also their seasonal IPA they had on tap.

Yelp
love this little brewery -. They have a good variety of beer, so great for a crowd with different tastes I really miss their sour, Marilyn Mango, which is delicious They have fun events.

Yelp
We live in Round Rock and make the 30-60 minute drive to Vacancy almost weekly. The owners are hospitable and the staff are people I'd definitely consider my friends. They make very strong efforts to get to know customers, engaging in conversations and sharing laughs. They are dog friendly, both inside and outside. There's a food truck that is parked there but you are also allowed to bring outside food in or get something delivered. There's several other food trucks nearby that you could pop over to and bring to Vacancy. We have been for many of their events, which are well planned and super fun. Their recent anniversary party had a flash tattoo artist, food trucks, DJs, limited edition merch and brews, etc. The beers are fantastic. They have a good rotation of IPAs, lagers, and their staple is the June. All super easy and enjoyable to drink.

Yelp
We decided to try a new brewery tonight. I thought this place was super cute. They had bingo going on and have board games you can play. We really liked their IPA but they had a lot of beers to try and very friendly service

Yelp
Small brewery in an industrial area turned food and drink area. Across the street are more food and drink options. The interior is bright and inviting. There's an area for outdoor seating. And the SXSE food truck occupies the same space. The Jet Lag hoppy lager is great. I got a can to take home. If I were in the area I'd pop by.
google avatar

Yelp
It's a small brewery. They have good drinks. We came in on bingo day. It was fun. The service is great. They are fast and friendly. Overall a good experience.

Yelp
Tried a whole series of their IPA varietals that we brought home and they are excellent too!

Yelp
Love this brewery! Always able to find a solid beer to drink and also not so beery-beer for my sister who doesn't like beer. I feel like they are one of the few places that allow you to do a shandy (which is a must when Texas gets hot as hell). I love it even more when my favorite food truck found their new home here. SXSE Food co. and Vacancy brews are a solid pairing. If you catch them during the crawfish boil, their lagers or sparkling ale are a perfect match to quench the heat coming from Chef Bob's spicy crawfish
google avatar

Yelp
Nice taproom, gracious employees, plenty of parking, and delish beer add up to a great experience. I love their Classic Pilsner, it's so clean on a hot day. SXSE food trailer is yummy, too, so make a lunch or dinner of it.

Ellen C.

Yelp
Great place, service and, of course, beer!! Brent and Sara are a great team. He is Austin's top master brewer. The vibe is so upbeat and welcoming!

Yelp
Good beers (try my girl, Lucille) and the friendliest mustachioed-beertenders make for a nice, intimate place to chat with friends, play trivia with the room, or have a snack (currently Asian-inspired food truck outside) with friends or coworkers or even your kids. The owners make a point to offer a smile, too. The Yard is just across the street, so you can make a full day of it without having to drive.

Yelp
I really liked this spot, it was cute. I started off with a beer flight followed by a half pour. You get to choose 3 beers in your flight so I selected the austin sours, mixtape vol. 3 and hitchhiker hazy. I really like the beer and space, if you are in Austin check this brewery out.

Yelp
I love it here. Solid tap wall. Canned options available to take home. They have plenty of boardgames to keep you & your friends entertained. Good for small or large groups (I think 6-8 people can sit at one table). You can even go all by yourself and you are likely to make a friend. Nice people. New beer is released regularly. It's in a bit of a strange location. Don't question it. You need to go here. You need to try this beer. Plenty of seating inside & outside. Staff is extremely friendly & helpful when trying to decide what delicious brew you're going to consume. I think this is where all nights out should start. & end. I go to bed early. Y'all are trailblazers.

Yelp
Newer and underrated small brewery in Austin! They have been open for a little over a year and we have been back multiple times since opening last spring. We love that they're part of the seasonal walkabouts that The Yard puts on. They're in a great location with other hot spots for South Austin. They offer flights of 4 so you can try them all without worrying about potentially wasting beer by choosing a full pour you don't enjoy to the fullest. I'm glad to see that they're sticking to a smaller number of core beers, I believe still only 3 (Lucille a golden ale, Margo a dry hopped amber, and June a Pilsner)and the rest are ever changing and seasonal. This definitely gives a brewery more flexibility on appealing a larger customer base and keeps beer lovers like myself coming back more frequently to try out the new brews that get announced and released. My favorite beer from them is the Hitchhiker Hazy IPA. They also seek crawlers and growlers and you can bring your own growler to fill as well. It's a bit more confusing to park over here as there are less obvious parking spots than the main Yard strip of buildings across the road, but it is a short walk if you decide to park over there. At least all the parking is free too! Very kid and dog friendly inside and on the front patio. They have free Wi-Fi and 2 gender neutral bathrooms. Thrill Foods food truck is usually parked out front and man is it difficult to walk past or drink a beer on the outside patio without grabbing a snack from them. The smell is delicious and the shrimp tapas and garlic parmesan fries were amazing and felt light and refreshing in the sun. It is more of a limited menu, but they have perfected the items on it and they're widely flavor friendly for even picky eaters.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem! It's tucked back in the little warehouse area by the Yard. We stopped here after going to get bagels at the food truck out front, noticing it was on the Austin Ale Trail map. The inside is super cute, it has a fun artsy vibe with a mural. I can't remember which beer I got, but it was good. I would come back here and try more beers for sure!

Yelp
Tucked in the quieter side of the yard. Vacancy is all I can see when I'm craving a crisp and refreshing pint. Great vibes all around and dog friendly. If you're looking for a good time, make it vacancy time !

Yelp
Now here is a place that's simple and quaint. We got here for a birthday get together and just wanted a relaxing time. They gave us that. Large beer selection, asian fusion food truck in the back, We all had a great time just hanging out.

Yelp
When a place is dog friendly it steals our hearts. Vacancy Brewing consistently delivers exceptional service and goes out of their way to make us and our pups feel welcome. They have an amazing food truck outside, SXSE, that is hands down one of our Austin faves. I'm surprised this place hasn't blown up but am secretly glad it's our hidden gem. Good beer, better people.

Yelp
I personally loved this place, hubs would probably give it a 4, but this ain't his review! It's tucked in a corner, across the street from St Elmo. The decor is very naturalist millennial meets Cali meets brewery (read: lots of instagrammable spots). I was pretty impressed with the Lucille! What I've realized about lots of breweries in Texas is that the Beertender typically doesn't actually know very much, especially if you're a frequent beer explorer, like myself. Go with your gut, grab a sample, and find you a good sip.

Yelp
Whenever I visit Austin I try to visit a local brewery. It's an abundance of riches in my opinion. So many breweries. So little time. Vacancy Brewing is the latest. While they serve no food, there's a food truck outside. My beer of choice that evening was their Pre Pro Lager which I took to mean pre prohibition. Correct me if I'm wrong. It was good. I enjoyed a second. Vacancy, like so many recent breweries, follows a predictable pattern. Located in an industrial park. Good selection of brews on tap. Creative beer styles. A great place for friends to gather. Service, though busy, was helpful and efficient. There's both inside and outside seating. The usual picnic tables. All in all a pleasant experience worthy of a repeat. My only complaint, if it is that, would be more diversity in the selection. I.e, a porter and maybe a red ale. I'm just saying. Will I be back? Probably. But so many breweries!

Yelp
Spent some time checking out the area and decided to pop over to this place. We decided to each get a beer and then try the flights so we could do some more tastings. Overall this place has a chill vibe and was a great quiet spot to enjoy a nice afternoon with a drink.

Yelp
I had a few hours to kill and wandered into this off the beaten path brewery. What a happy discovery! I ordered a flight of 3 beers - all distinctively different. Each was great!! My favorite was the Austin Sours. This place is clean and just has an upbeat, happy vibe. I'll definitely return when in the area! The bar tender was friendly and willing to help with selections.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute little spot. Very laid back and mellow on my Barks for Beers tour. I'm not a big beer drinker, so I got their Mango sour. It's just as promised, and puckers your mouth. They have games you can play with your friends too. If you want food, you can order from the QR codes for Little Nonna's and Jet's Pizza. If you're down south and in the area, take a peek!
google avatar

Chris G.

Yelp
Lovely little spot to grab a brew or a bite to eat whether it's with the family or friends. The atmosphere is really colorful and lively and they have a cute free water station and amazing staff! The food truck just outside this place didn't disappoint either with some really good fried rice.
google avatar

Jane O.

Yelp
I got a flight of the new flavors and they were all delicious. Weather was great for sitting at the picnic tables out front. Service was friendly and helpful. Bathroom was clean. Plenty of parking.
google avatar

Yelp
I hopped into Vacancy Brewing to do a little studying on a quiet Sunday afternoon. I came in around opening at noon, and there was plenty of parking nearby. It appeared the food truck was accepting orders. They have an indoor seating area and a covered patio area, which I imagine will be really nice once the weather cools off. I ordered both the Juicy Lucy and the Hazy IPA. The bartender was really friendly and helpful. I saw him engaging a lot with customers and helping them make their beer choices (offering samples and suggestions). This was a comfortable place to get some work done. There was music, games, and a dog even sat with his family inside. This place has a great vibe and is definitely more tucked away than some other breweries in the area.
google avatar

Ellen E.

Yelp
We came here what I believe was opening weekend! They had 5 beers on tap, with the option to get a flight (3 pours- $7), beers to go, or full pours to enjoy. They had staples like a Pilsner, or you can try something a little different like the sparkling golden ale (IMO heavy on the brut flavor). They have seating inside as well as outside, and they're dog friendly! They also had some cute shirts/apparel with their logo on it for purchase. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying this place once they expand their selection a little bit, but overall it was good! It's also right down the way from St Elmos Brewing, so add it to your list and hit them up when you're in the area/getting your beer fix.

P K.

Yelp
Beer is cold. Server is friendly and describes the beer! Food truck is delayed but that is okay. Warehouse atmosphere is good for a brewery. Everyone likes their beers!

Matt C.

Yelp
Place is great for decent beer and a chill vibe... Millie is the shit though. She made out experience... I will be back!

Yelp
Visited for the 1st time on Friday 6/25/21. Had the pleasure of meeting the owners who were very friendly, helping serve customers. The gentleman who served us our beers was also very friendly. The beers were all very good and we enjoyed our flights. Sometimes new breweries take time to develop a good list of beers, but I was impressed. The setting was nicely laid out and decorated. Indoor seating with AC for those hot days, as well as outdoor seating. Check out Vacancy and support local independent breweries!!
google avatar

Tina N.

Yelp
New brewery with lots of seating inside and out and dog friendly! Also has a food truck on site and is down the street from St Elmos, Austin Winery etc. The beer was good and I imagine as more people hear about it, the vibe will pick up!

The S.

Yelp
Fantastic place! I loved the vibe, very animal and family friendly, they have board games and so much more! Terrific staff and amazing beer! Kept coming back while in Austin with my girlfriend! Super affordable and a great time! Highly recommend! Stephen was amazing! Thanks Stephen for the amazing service and recommendations on the flight!
google avatar

Jeff W.

Yelp
Spectacular! Taps are unreal top to bottom. If you miss the Juicy Lucy or the June, you're mistaken.
google avatar

John R.

Yelp
Nice venue, good selection of different beer taps. Friendly staff. Half a dozen or so picnic tables inside with air conditioning
google avatar

Steven A.

Yelp
Add this to your list! The beer is great and so is the vibe. There's seriously not a bad beer on tap, so try them all. They've got Indoor/outdoor seating and are dog friendly. To top it all off the staff is really friendly! P.S You'll thank yourself for trying the food truck Cheers!

Yelp
Great hidden little gem in south Austin. The Marilyn Mango is my favorite. Love the post card theme.

Amanda B.

Yelp
Not inclusive at all. Felt really uncomfortable after walking in and asking some questions. Implied I was old and didn't know about beer. Kinda weird since I am a brewer from another state and I didn't realize there was an age limit on beer.

Martin P.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Great selection of beers, great atmosphere, seating inside and out, and dog friendly. The food truck was good too and it was nice to get to chat with the owners a little bit - good luck to them!

Russell B.

Yelp
Great beers especially loved the IPAs space is really cool and well designed. Will be back again soon.
