Vagabond Wines Charlotte Street, Fitzrovia

My second visit to a Vagabond. Very different to Battersea but still run to the same standards. Quite small (which added to the vibe) with a downstairs section and the same excellent food choices. Value for money is tops. Service and greeting by Alex and his team made us feel very special. Highly recommended.

Rachel is superb, her knowledge and friendly approach really made our night…And ultimately resulted in us purchasing a bottle each of the wine we loved. Great place to catch up with a friend or go with a partner. Highly recommend!

This spot is a true gem for wine lovers! They offer an impressive selection of wines to taste or enjoy by the glass, making it the perfect place for a relaxed yet refined experience. While there are a variety of dishes available for pairing, I found myself completely immersed in the wine journey. I discovered several new favorites that matched my palate beautifully. The staff were not only knowledgeable but also incredibly kind and attentive, making the experience all the more enjoyable. It’s definitely a place I’d return to for another lovely wine discovery.

I have truly never been so compelled to leave a review - Giorgia was an absolute star and recommended me the most wonderful non-alcoholic option - sparkling tea! Was so pleased and it really made my visit that extra bit special. She also gave my friend some great recommendations for white wine. Thank you to her for facilitating a great evening with friends! Nibbly bits at 3 for £20 also a lovely, delicious deal.

GIORGIA, GIORGIA...GIORGIA! Absolutely phenomenal service from Giorgia at Vagabond on Charlotte Street. We came in as a group of ten—Aussies, Canucks, and a Brit—so not exactly the easiest table to manage, but Giorgia handled it like an absolute pro. From the moment we sat down, she was warm, patient, and totally in control. She navigated our loud banter, mixed drink orders, and endless wine questions with total ease. Her wine recommendations were spot-on, and she somehow remembered every detail—who ordered what, who liked what—without ever needing to ask twice. She struck the perfect balance: friendly without being overbearing, sharp but never rushed. Even as the place got busy, Giorgia never missed a beat. It felt like she was genuinely invested in making sure we had an amazing night—and we did. Honestly, she made our entire Vagabond experience. If you're heading to the Charlotte Street location, ask for Giorgia. She's a total star and made a diverse, rowdy table feel completely at home.

I had a lovely experience at Vagabond Charlotte St at Fitzrovia, the staff were welcoming, attentive, and very knowledgeable - especially when I asked about more info of wines for the mananger / Ingred made explanations and recommendations made the evening even more enjoyable. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, pairing perfectly with the wines. It's a relaxed and friendly place to enjoy great food and wine with friends and family without any fuss - I'll definitely be back!

The food was delicious, staff was so kind/ helpful, ambience was phenomenal, and wine selection was absolutely beyond!! If you're a local I'd make this a regular spot, and if you're a tourist you definitely need to make a visit!!

The team at the company I just recently joined organized a get together at this place. We had a reservation downstairs for a couple of tables. They explained us the concept and we got a couple of cards for the group. I enjoyed being able to sample from a variety of wines without having to commit to a full Glas. The selection was slight overwhelming. I tried an English white wine an Italian red. The food they served was good, but positioned in a difficult place for everyone to reach. Most people of the group stayed around the tables which made it harder for everyone to have easy access. I left hungry ;-). Overall I'd like go to back there to spend more time trying different wines. Especially the ability to get only a small amount (a couple of sips) from each wine, so I can try multiple. We went there on a Monday evening and it got crowded around 7 pm

My co-worker and I were early for our dinner in the area and decided to walk down this street to see if there was anywhere interesting to pop in for a drink. Obviously as soon as I saw this cute wine bar I was 100% committed and I'm so glad we popped in! This wine bar is a pour your own glass wine bar where you load up a card with money and then choose what you'd like to drink from their many options. They had a LOT of wine across a multitude of different regions and varietals, so there is literally something for everyone at this place. The people working here were also extremely knowledgable and very friendly. They were quick to help us out by explaining how their wine bar works + they gave excellent recommendations on what to drink. Seating is a little tight, but it's such a cute place overall that it's definitely worth a visit!!

This is for Vagabond Wines Birmingham. Unfortunately I cannot leave zero. Visited here 3.12.22. approximately 2pm. Party of three. We were greeted cordially and asked if we had been before. I replied yes and we were duly allocated a table for an hour. I asked one of the two servers if they had any chateauneuf du pape and was told no and no to Catherine Marshall. On browsing through the reds I located ten bottles of chateauneuf du pape and duly asked the other sever for a bottle. Before even asking how many people it was for or where we were sat she insisted that we pay in advance. The cheap bottle of chateauneuf du pape was only £70 or thereabouts. What was she thinking? Would we run out after having a glass of wine each. Bearing in mind that two of us have frequented Vagabond since it's opening and have over £200 each on our Vagabond prepayment cards. When we advised server number one that we had located chateau neuf du pape she offered no apology and seemed quite put out that we had highlighted her lack of customer focus. As for the second server who served the wine I have no idea how she managed to secure this position. She offered zero recommendations when quizzed on other wines and as her colleague appeared put out that she was being asked to do her job. I will never revisit this place and will be quite happy to give my card to someone else to experience this awful customer service.

If I could leave 0 I honestly would. I have to say I've been to several of the Vagabond locations and I'm forever recommending it to my friends and family. However, unfortunately, the manager on duty last night really let them down. Myself and my friend spent a lot of money their last night on food and drinks which was continuously interrupted by the manager telling us we had to move because he'd booked our table... we asked calmly and reasonably if we had to be moved to another table with our drinks and food surely the people arriving could be seated there? Which eventually after huffing and talking over us he agreed to. We then ordered more food and drinks and were essentially told to leave!!! When I said well I've just ordered food can I have a refund at first he said NO! Eventually he back peddled. So many other tables left so they weren't in short supply. He then stomped back raised his voice and talked over us to get out attention and said we can have the table... of course we went to say thank you and he called us rude? Unreasonable? And we should be do something nice for him?! I've been thinking about it all morning and spoken with others about my experience and I'm honestly so upset by how we were spoken to. I'd appreciate someone above this "Manager" speaking to me and I would like to be refunded for this experience as someone who comes often. DO NOT GO HERE!!! I took some photos of the empty tables behind us... where people were eventually seated???

So Confession Time - I'm allergic to wine so I can not review any of the wine here. Why then, you ask, did I end up here, in a wine bar, the answer is the food. After a day walking & gossiping around London, my friend and I ended up on Charlotte Street looking for food. We walked pass a couple of places, looked at their menu and then walked by until we came across Vagabond Wines and their tempting menu. The staff were a little confused that we didn't want to taste their wines but they were happy to let us order food. We ordered the Charcuterie & Cheese Board, The Goat's Cheese with Walnut & Fig and The Mini Mezze. The Mini Mezze was our least favorite but I think that had to do with the other two being amazing. Such good price for such a lot of food.

We decided to come here on a whim on a Thursday evening. It was pretty busy inside but we found a cosy little spot downstairs. A self serve wine bar, what a unique concept! We loaded £20 onto a card and it got us 2 glasses and 2 tasters (total). While it's a little pricey, you're slightly paying for the experience but that's OK because it was surprisingly enjoyable to be able to choose your own wines. All the wines I had were lovely. I definitely plan on coming back... And hopefully I'll be able to try the food then! FYI this would be a pretty good place to bring a date!

My boyfriend had a great time here wine tasting from their machines after his birthday dinner down the street. Completely stumbled upon this store/bar. Wasn't on Yelp because we learned they recently opened at this new location. Quite simple...purchase a card with a set amount of pounds that you then use to self serve wine. Each wine had a take away card that explains the wine. A rainbow of options ranging from light white to heavy reds. Your choice of a taste vs a full glass. Prices range from about £.60 to about £1.5 per taste, with glasses at about £4 or so and higher. Being from California, I'm more familiar with west coast USA wines. This set up allowed us to have fun with old world wines. Had a great time enjoying wine at your own pace. Buying a bottle to drink there had an additional £10 added to it. Generally a welcoming and helpful team of staff. Special mention the staff who had an amazing singing voice and awesome shoes (and of course helpful). I would return.

Love this place! I want to open a business just like this. Low key place to sample wines, drink wine, meet a friend. Love the atmosphere, design details, wine tasting abilities. Wish it wasn't so crowded when I tried to go. Made a reservation last night and went back. So glad we did! Awesome food and wine!

Such a lovely concept Great choice of wines Although a little expensive it is great to be able to choose by 20 or 125ml tasters/ glasses. Whole bottles seem quite steep with corkage though Got to try 3 different glasses of wine each for £30 going for most of the cheapest - hadn't tried any of them before though Unexpectedly the food was excellent. Small menu of charcuterie and cheese boards but amazing quality and also plenty of bread served with it. £21 for 3 plates which filled 2 people to the brim! Great for couples, first dates and larger groups Will definitely be returning, unfortunately not somewhere I could frequent due to the cost!

I love this place! While it is a little pricey it is also absolutely delicious (I have eaten their cheese platter over and over again and will continue to do so) and their wine selection is unrivaled. I love the fact that I can take time to browse all the wines on offer (which also change regularly to keep things interesting) and try lots of different wines in the same evening. The staff are friendly and helpful and I have converted many of my friends into loyal customers too.

The British are not renowned for customer service so it is a relief when you come across a wine bar that doesn't have waiting staff and you serve yourself. You prepay a card (£5 deposit) and then wander around the different wines which are in vending machines. You have a choice between a taster, small glass and large glass which are priced accordingly. My wife who doesn't normally drink loved it. They have a wide selection of wines, to my surprise them had a Welsh wine (climate change must have kicked in) but unfortunately that was the worst of the ones I tried. Vagabond Wines is a fun venue and worth checking out.

Vagabond Wines is a mix of a wine store and wine bar. This is their second location (the first one is in Fulham) and it has more of bar feel to it but they do have an extensive selection of wine to also just buy with you. The selection is fairly broad and the tasting machines also makes it possible for them to have so e rare wines available for retails sales as people then can taste them beforehand. The location on Charlotte Street is very cozy and has seating on two floors (entrance and the basement). The entrance level is nicer but can also get a bit chaotic when there are lots of people there. They do accept reservations and that is really recommended as the place is not huge. The set-up for the wine bar part of the business is that they have sampling machines. To use these one loads money onto a card and then insert the card into a machine, press a button for the wine you want to sample (hold the glass below the nozzle) and the size if glass (small taster or a proper glass of wine). The small tasters start at around £0.6 (and go up-to around £4) and the glasses of wine start at around £4 and then go upwards. All the bottles they have for retail sales can also be had in the bar - just add £10 corkage fee on top of the retail price. They also have nibbles and shared platters of some food. Mainly small bites and cold cuts and cheeses. Tried the charcuteries and they were really good. Staff are friendly and really knowledgeable. Stop by during the slower part of the day to have more of in-depth discussions on wine as the evenings tend to be a bit too busy for that. The reason I do not give it a 5 is the price level, a bit steep on some of the wines (saw a basic cava for £20 and that is maximum €7 in Spain (and even in Sweden with notoriously high prices in general and alcohol in particular I have seen the same bottle for around the same price)). The atmosphere is however great and they do have an interesting selection of wines so I will be back. The deal with Vagabond wines is that you can buy wine by the glass or bottle to drink in, or take away, but what makes it different is that you do this via an enomatic machine - i.e. a big wine dispenser! You load up a smart card with money and then you can try any of their selection of red, white, rose and sweet wines, either a sample size or a full glass, read more about it here. (I managed to drink through £20 of tasters ;s, in my defence it was across the full range from white, red and dessert wines!) We had fun sampling the huge selection and having a gossip over a couple of hours. Vagabond also serve food and nibbles so if you are on a tasting mission you can line your stomach. Well worth checking out if you are in the area and either need a wine bar or a bottle of wine to take away!

What a fun concept. Great place to go with a group of friends. You can try many wines, all in different price ranges. Love that they have recommendations of what to try... Reds, whites, rose! Big plus for refunding whatever I didn't use on my Vagabond card. Will definitely be back.

It's like a froyo joint but in lieu of dairy one gets wine. Typically the crowd is a civil one. Put enough wine in that older crowd (I'm talkin' to you, suits) and the volume peaks past ambient. Fun, interactive concept, giving consumers the illusion of rational choice. This is the ultimate experiment in choice architecture, as one strategist friend had pointed out.

This is a fun spot, albeit expensive. I booked a table for Friday happy hour, and I'm glad I planned ahead. It was very crowded, and I saw a few walk-ins being turned away. We sat on the ground floor level and enjoyed the variety of wines on tap. There's also a lower-ground seating area. We tried both old world and new world wines and made some new discoveries. It's simple to load up a card to access the wine dispensers,and the balance is refundable at the end of your visit. I also recommend the cheese plate, which has a nice variety. I'll definitely be paying a return visit soon.

Excellent concept. Too HOT! Amazing for tasters as they have have a huge selection. But sitting in... Be prepared to sweat! No air con.

A reloadable card system that you add money to (with a 5£ deposit) and pick your wine from the vending machine in taste, small glass, and large glass sizes. They have a relatively large selection. The atmosphere was pretty packed on a weekday night with the odd singing Welshmen. Other than this, it's a good place for just a drink or two, or more!

Knowledgeable staff. Good wine. Relaxed atmosphere. Cool concept. Win win win great place for anyone who loves wine.

So I love the concept here, really allows you to taste as you would at a winery but with so much more. I think the closest thing I can think of is Vapiano for wine. Pop up to the counter, snag a card and top it up with some cash. Then roam to each of the coolers to peruse your wine of choice. You can pick from a taste or a glass. I thought the price point was more than reasonable given what you're getting. I'm from the States and only wish that we had something similar. The staff were incredibly friendly, and it wasn't crowded at all. Although I would say we did pop in on a Monday at 3pm - so I guess it was just us wine-o's.

An absolutely fantastic concept, run well by knowledgeable staff. This is the third time I've been, this time with nine other friends. You can book tables which I would recommend if there's more than two of you or if you're going at a busier time of the day. You don't have to, but if you turn up at 7 pm on a Friday night you might be disappointed. It's really simple: they have about 100 wines in chillers/dispensers (set to the right temperature for that particular style of wine) all of which you can buy by 20 ml samples or 125 ml glasses. When you arrive the friendly staff will give you a card which you pre-load with as much or as little money as you want. Anything left at the end will be refunded. Pick up a glass from one of several shelves around the place and pick whatever you want to drink. Prices range from around £1 up to several pounds for a sample, £4 up to about £25 (yes, £25!) for a glass. Don't let the prices put you off, there is something for everyone here. For those prices you're probably thinking this is going to be really pretentious but honestly, it isn't. Don't get me wrong, the staff know their stuff and they're more than happy to give you recommendations and help out but it's relaxed, no snobbery at all. They have a wider selection of wines that they sell by the bottle to take home, or they'll open it there for you but there will be a corkage charge. A large selection of whiskeys are also available by the bottle to take home or behind the bar as per normal. Finally, they also do great sharing platters of meats, cheeses and vegetarian options, great for sharing a tapas-like experience with friends. So whether it's pre- or post-dinner drinks, a first or tenth date, a bunch of friends out for a big night or just you and a friend after work, this place has you covered.

Great concept and fun but if you don't spend to the penny you're out of pocket which I don't love. Brilliant idea though and a lovely venue.

When I first came to London, I used to hang around Charlotte Street a lot, since many of my friends went to school at UCL and it is right by their campus. I knew it for cheap eats and good student nights, but now it's definitely gone upscale with the likes of Kitchen Table, Roka, and fancy wine bars such as Vagabond. I wandered in with a friend the other night after dinner in the area, eager to grab a glass of wine or two on a lovely summer evening. The staff were friendly and quickly explained the concept: you load a card, which can then be inserted into the machines and used to purchase either tasters or 125ml glasses of wine from the dispensers. They say there are up to 100 bottles of wine available on some nights, and there were at least 3 walls of 15-20 bottles each when we were there. We loaded 25 pounds to start and went for a few of the white wines, but the glasses are surprisingly expensive and we had to top up after 3. What normally would be a free taster costs 2-3 pounds, and a 125ml glass (a small glass in most places) costs 7-10 for the most part, with some exceptions on the high end. You are refunded whatever is left on your card in cash, so that is not a concern. I like the self-serve concept and I think it's a cool place to grab a drink or two, but the price tag is quite prohibitive after that. When you pour a glass, the price per bottle for drink-in and takeaway are displayed above it, and the drink-in price is almost always twice that of takeaway. Once you find what you like, it's probably best to just buy the bottle and enjoy it in the comfort of your own home.
