"A standby for generations, this pizzeria was recently revived for a new generation. The giant pies are even better when paired with a frozen whiskey coke. Takeout and delivery orders can be placed online; there are indoor dine-in services." - Brandon Watson

"A new San Marcos restaurant paying tribute to a longtime local restaurant opened in early August, under the same name. Valentino’s is found in San Marco’s Square at 1100 North LBJ Drive. Originally, the space had been pizzeria Pizza Plaza, which opened in 1972. The then-owners couldn’t go forward with the business because of debts, and delivery staffer Bijan Afkami offered to take responsibility for the restaurant and its debts. He turned it into Valentino’s in 1981. The restaurant went through several owners during its history, but it closed in 2018. New owners Harlan Scott and Cody Taylor — of also San Marcos restaurant Industry — took over the lease in 2022 and renovated/upgraded the space. The casual restaurant’s menu includes pizza, chicken wings, salads, and subs. Its hours are from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday, and then from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. Thursday through Saturday." - Nadia Chaudhury

Came here to celebrate Mother's Day early and was surprised that it was Texas State Graduation Day. Our server was very nice and have us great service despite being swamped. Did was quick, hot and delicious. Garlic knots were perfect, classic fluffy and chewy. My wife had a sandwich and it was awesome she said. I shared a large pizza with the kids. It has great crust, cooked perfectly. Great crunch and chew. One of the best new York style pizza in the area.

Google
This place is absolutely amazing!! We ordered fried pickles and jalapeños to start. Followed by a supreme pizza with no sausage. Let me tell you about this pizza 🍕! It was absolutely delicious in every sense of the word. The crust was thin and crispy. The sauce was delicious, and all the ingredients were fresh!. I haven't had a pizza this good in a long time. Shout out to the amazing staff and excellent service! I only had 2 slices left from the large pizza. we ate 3 adults and one child.

We stopped by after my daughter’s high school graduation. I have known about this spot for years. The cheese sticks were some of the best I’ve had anywhere! The service was super friendly but not consistent. There was one server and there were lags between ordering. I wasn’t able to order a second drink. We will probably come back again!

Google
Great pizza! Helpfully they'll split a pizza with different toppings on each half. They have bar and table seating in front as well as another big room in the back. They're located just a few steps away from San Marcos main square. There is free parking on nearby streets.

Google
First time trying out this place and it's definitely a place I will come back. Our order was Fried Mushrooms, Fried Pickles, Buffalo Wings and a Supreme Pizza. All food was hot, juicy and full of flavor. The pizza taste homemade not factory made, the pickles were crunchy on the outside but juicy on the inside, the wings were big, juicy and the sauce was to the point and finally the mushrooms were crunchy and juicy. The service was great our server was courteous and the place is big enough with a good atmosphere.

Google
Best pizza in San Marcos hands down. The staff was extremely friendly until the woman who gave us our pizza called our number and I asked for a box and was blatantly lied to and told they were out when there were 20 different boxes of each size sitting right beside her. When I pointed this out she rolled her eyes and reluctantly spent the 5 seconds it takes to build me a box and hand it to me. I say again, best pizza in San Marcos.

Google
Stopped in while wandering the square. Great service, very good waitress/bartender. Suggested getting half of two pizzas on one, 14” is more than enough for two people. Great pizza, excellent crust and very cold cheap beer. Just everything you need in one place.

Oliver Ziggarius

Google
Some of the best pizza I’ve found in Texas! Had an awesome slice here a few months back and today ordered a full fresh pizza and wow! Very unique crisp to the crust and I can’t really compare to any other pizza I’ve had.

Yelp
I heard about this place because of their $1 Wing Wednesdays. My GF and I went yesterday for said promotion. Parking on The Square was fast and easy; we parked literally across from restaurant. Granted, it wasn't a weekend night, was but only 7:10 p.m. CDT. The restaurant was cozy and smelled good--like a pizza joint would. Our waitress was nice, patient, presentable, and helpful. She happily took our request to split the pizza in halves by side (because we both don't agree on olives). However, the wings were spicy some and I did have to get up to seek her for a refill on our beverages. Aside from that minor problem, she was worth the tip. The music they played, mostly alternative rock, was great too! Exactly up my lane. The wings were delicious-especially for being a buck a piece. Not like Pluckers or WingStop, but better than Domino's and Chinese buffets. 6.5/10, given a very objective rating. 8.3/10 for being $1 each. Flavor was on point. The pizza menu took me surprise. They had vegan cheese you could substitute onto them. Very much worth the extra $2 for anyone who knows L-I firsthand. In terms of its taste and texture, obviously, not as good as real dairy, but pretty great for vegan cheese. The pizza was as delicious as the wings. Not too saucy, not too thin, and given good portions for toppings. I appreciated the free refill they offer on drinks too. In short, specifically in context of $1 Wing Wednesdays, the value, service, and quality of the dinner was amazing. Pizzas are steep on price some, NGL, but it is what is. I'd recommend this business and look forward to next Wednesday.

Yelp
What a surprise! Flew in to Texas today, trouble at the car rental and arrived at our hotel hungry but needing to get to a pre wedding dinner. But we needed something to eat. Drove into San Marcos and found Valentino's. Ordered two slices and found a crust to rival New York's. Friendly staff, small but good menu.

Yelp
Good food and service again. Easy place to show up w my husband and talk about side salad Sarah as I eat my side Caesar salad and a few slices. Glad we were able to stop here while we were in town.

Angelina D.

Yelp
Service was good, very friendly waitress and came at the right times. I got the 18 inch meat pie with no bacon. It was very greasy and the crust was slightly burnt because of how thin it's made. Some people like that some don't. The marinara was very tomato tasting and the water did not taste good, a bit worse than sink water honestly. Everything was very clean though and timely. Good for a one stop but probably won't go again any time soon.

Jaylynn M.

Yelp
I love the atmosphere in this place. It looks like a cheesy strip club from outside and (un)fortunately it is not. However, was very pleased when my partner and I walked in and the fantastic four movie was playing. It feels as if you're in a clean dive bar with pizza. Speaking of, we each ordered a slice of pizza which was very good!

Veronica B.

Yelp
We were looking for a late night bite after leaving a concert from Austin. Valentino's popped up in the search so we decided to come out here. It was after midnight so it becomes 21+ and we got ID'd at the door. They have other food but since it was late they were only serving pizza by the slice. The pizza slices were $5 each but huge, reminds me of the pizza on the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon. The vibe was pretty cool, the waitress was nice and commented on our Cage the Elephant shirts. They have a beer that they serve for only $2 and I really liked it! They have $1 wing Wednesdays that I wanna come back for. This is a chill place to hang with friends for beer and pizza!

Andrea R.

Yelp
I just left Val's rn and I always have a good time but tonight this waitress she has brown short hair very short too and she forgot our straws but I noticed she didn't forget the other tables and it wasn't packed either for her to be rushed because the entire time she was talking to this one guy at the bar the whole time and the entire time she only interacted with my table twice I saw the runner guy more than her and it took her forever to get to our table to ask for the check I hate complaining of service workers but she just irked me food was good tho I love honey hot wings

Liam D.

Yelp
I am an incoming freshman at Texas State. me and a couple of buddies just so happened to stumble upon this quaint little pizza joint. the outside is eye catching followed by a truly excellent ambiance inside. The food took a little while to come out, though our server was very attentive, however after taking my first bite I understood. I ordered a Margherita pizza, the soft mild flavors of the cheesy mozzarella truly melted on the tongue, yet it only got better from there, the cheese pizza was immaculate and the spice on the hot wings perfectly balanced the tender white meat below. A truly excellent meal!

Tammi B.

Yelp
Just gross. Hopefully this was just an isolated incident and the pizza we had delivered via UberEats was the exception and not the rule. The pizza was unevenly baked. Burnt crust and undercooked center. The toppings were a joke. I wish I would have thought to take a picture of this but I guess I was too much in shock by the "suck" factor. We ordered a large half pepperoni/half sausage pie. Might have been a dozen total pieces of tiny pepperoni on the one side and even less sausage on the other. Cheese?!?! Where's the cheese? The whole pie was greasy and cold. I expected more from this so called, hometown favorite. Even old school Chef Boyardee would have been more satisfying than this.

Rain W.

Yelp
We stopped in here after hearing a couple walking ahead of us mention that this was a pizza restaurant. I was curious to know if I'd be able to get anything as many pizza places don't have gluten-free crusts or at least are usually out of them. This was not the case however, we got a 14' gluten-free crust and chose the meat lover's one. We were served right away as we were able to walk in on opening. We were seated and had our orders taken straight away too. The staff was nice. The food came out pretty quickly and was really good. It was a relaxing vibe and nothing seemed rushed. I'd come back again.

Yelp
Theres a lot to talk about Valentino's and its hard to not compare it to the old one. Seating is a little confusing, especially when it is packed. You walk in, look around for a table, find nothing and then just stand there waiting for a table to open so you can quickly grab one. Turns into a Black Friday deal where you are pushing grandparents out of the way just to find a seat. I saw a lot of people just walk out because they didnt know what to do. The thing that stinks about this is when it is packed and you are waiting you dont have any place to wait. You pretty much have to wait outside which stinks because you dont know if a table is opening up. If there was a check in system or a host to help organize this madness it would greatly help. The pizza is good, not a heavy flop, not to greasy. BY FAR, the best pizza spot on the square. HANDS DOWN. Our favorite is their White Pizza and when the frozen daiquiri is not water it is to die for. My real grips really come with the limited seating and the unnecessary long bar. My thinking is that this is a pizza parlor wouldnt a beer garden work better than a full bar?

Janice J.

Yelp
Ordered delivery, probably one of the worst pizzas I've had. I ordered a veggie, it arrived with no onion and no spinach. I also ordered extra sauce and that was left off as well. It was also cold and soggy upon delivery.

H-Town R.

Yelp
Honestly, for the price it's not bad, but it's not great pizza, there's definitely other spots nearby that offer better quality pizza.

Doug B.

Yelp
Fantastic pizza and fried mushrooms. Great drink specials. Issac was fantastic and will definitely be coming back again when passing through San Marcos.

Eric C.

Yelp
This was my third and final chance. Do not let the name fool you, and do not think it's like the old Valentinos. Untrained and not-so-attentive wait staff/ bartenders. They are also okay with who looked to be their friend vaping at the bar. Pizza was also burnt. Try another place first. Each visit I have had has been unpleasant, but tried to give them a chance.

Alex R.

Yelp
The fried pickles and jalapeños were amazing, the wings were okay crispy but kind of dry. We decidedly to get the chicken bacon ranch pizza and the chicken was dry we would've been better off with a classic pepperoni. Staff was nice and friendly!

Jessica J.

Yelp
Ate-in for lunch a few weeks ago and had a beer and a slice of margherita pizza. Service was friendly, quick, and the space is clean and inviting. Really cute renovation! Love the bar seating. The margherita pizza was really delicious and I really love the chew and flavor of the pizza crust. This week we had the meat pie and the sausage pie delivered. Arrived faster than the initial time quote; still nice and hot. The meat pie was really good and we'd definitely order it again. The sausage pie was kind of meh so we probably wouldn't get that again...needed more sausage or something to punch it up. Still love the crust though--great flavor. Nevertheless, happy they reopened and are staying busy! Great location and overall great pizza.

Yelp
We are new to the area and have now officially tried every pizza place in San Marcos. Valentinos has been the standout for best crust and best sauce. Their crust is WAY closer to NY than anything else here. It has the perfect mix of crunch and chew, without being burnt or soggy. Anyone getting soggy pie from here needs to take that up with Uber Eats, because they (UberEats) suck pretty hard here in SM. My one complaint is that they only use the tiny pepperoni cups and not normal sized pepps. The salads are great too although they are on the pricey side. The dollar wings are also stellar for the price. If you get this place delivered, use DoorDash as they have yet to send me a sogger from here and I'm a good 3 miles away from the restaurant. Don't listen to the college kids that have given bad reviews, they're too young and narrow palette'd to know what good pizza is lol. As a Jersey transplant I can confirm, this is the closest thing to NY pizza you're gonna get here in the terrible food town of San Marcos!

Mya ..

Yelp
Love this place! Pizza is delicious here and very nice staff. Pizza is always fresh and great leftovers. Cool place for sure, definitely recommend. Nice option to do half and half. Boyfriend loves the chicken bacon ranch the most, it just perfect.

Not I.

Yelp
Pizza was mid and extremely thin, waiter was attentive since we were the only guests eating in but our food took forever and once it was done it sat at the counter in plain view for 5+ minutes while our waiter poked and squished our fried artichoke in his fingers - pretty fucking disgusting. The atmosphere felt was about what I'd expect from a pizza place/bar, decently clean in the dining areas and bathrooms. Probably won't n ever eat here again, just too many pizza places in sanmo

Jessica A.

Yelp
My husband and I have been here twice. I love their pepperoni pizza. I love that I can get it by the slice and it's fresh. The ranch is also amazing! I highly recommend. The service was fine, not over the top but nothing to complain about as that's the vibe of the restaurant. It's super chill and not formal or fancy at all. Next time I plan to try the wings.

Rudy M.

Yelp
Went to Valentinos a couple nights ago and the service was horrible. We had to remind the waitress on several occasions that we needed attention, and even then she didn't come. And then at the end of the meal she brought over the handheld card reader and no itemized bill. When we asked for one because the total seemed high, we found that she had tacked on her tip of almost $10. I removed the tip and paid my originaL amount (no tip). After all was said and done I think the other 2 parties that were with us had tips tacked on without their knowledge, and they added additional tip, they didnt request an itemized bill. This is a straight up ripoff. Make sure you ask for your itemized bill or you will get ripped off!!!! Not good business. Pizza was decent though, too bad their thievery ruined that for us!!!

Laura F.

Yelp
I was so excited to visit this Sam Marcos eatery after it reopened. We started with the garlic knots, which were delicious. We both ordered drinks, but they weren't good. I had the Aperol Spritz which was bitter from too much Aperol and my husband had the Lemoncello Lemon Drop which was sickly sweet. I ordered a house salad. The vegetables were great, but I was drowned in dressing. My husband had the meat pie, which he enjoyed. I ordered a slice of margherita which was good. Sadly, they don't have pasta like they used to.

Bill H.

Yelp
I took my family for lunch Sunday and we had a marvelous time. The pizza was really delicious as were the appetizers of garlic knots. And a combination of fried pickles and fried jalapeños. A special treat of comfort food.

Lauren M.

Yelp
Not the best pizza in my opinion- definitely has a more gummy texture. I got the margarita slice this last time and I would not get it again as it did not have much taste. However I would highly recommend their wings especially on Wednesday for $1 wings! They are delicious and a nice size. The service is pretty good and the overall vibe is quite nice. Overall I like this place but solely for the wings and decent service.

Alysha M.

Yelp
I have the besttt memories of this place back in the day...I didn't know the owners were different now that they've reopened- the taste is definitely different. The pizza was pretty good, just no longer the best in town. The fried mushrooms were really bad...I guess the smoked flavor is just not our thing. The Ranch was super bland- like plain sour cream. Cool that they serve by the slice though! And the inside renovations and everything looks great!

Michael I.

Yelp
Great pizza, drinks, and atmosphere. Our waitress was very friendly and took great care of us. Music was a little loud but we had a good time.

Benny C.

Yelp
I went in for two slices to give this spot a try. The slices were $5 each, which I thought was a tad expensive, but the employee said they were big slices from a 22" pizza. What I received was disappointing. Both slices were definitely not the same size. If you're going to charge $5 a slice then make sure they are the same size. I'd bet even the larger of the two slices was not from a 22" pie. The crust was extremely flimsy and soggy. The sauce was waaaay over seasoned with Italian spices and the pepperoni was extremely greasy. I was hoping to find a place that competes with Pie Society, but this wasn't it. Go straight to Pie Society, while on lunch or to Gumby's for your late night drunken hunger.

Sarah H.

Yelp
Always delicious, very nice staff. The crust is the best around & ingredients feel fresh.

Christy M.

Yelp
The best new/ infamously old restaurant in San Marcos! Love the vibe, love the food and love the staff!!

Page A.

Yelp
Delicious crust! Great staff! Ordered a pizza for pickup but got there early. We were welcomed to sit at a table - have a drink and wait. They brought us the pizza in it's "to go" box - we enjoyed a hot slice before leaving. Very happy and will order/eat there again.

Suzette B.

Yelp
Omg. That crust is so perfect. I do hate the being forced to have a provolone mozzarella mix. I prefer straight mozzarella. For this reason... I still order from Double Daves. It matters that much to me. If I could call in and ask at least or pick it online, that would be great but I can't even call the place to place an order over the phone so you're stuck with the limited options they put on their online ordering therefore double Dave's still reigns supreme, because I like customization of my Pizza.

Lauren G.

Yelp
The pizza is fantastic! It is fresh and always made to perfection. I love going on Thursdays for Ladies Night!

Sean N.

Yelp
This San Marcos classic is now reopened and serving fresh-made pizza, Subs, Wings, and Salads. The new owners contacted the original owner and recreated the original menu. I went to the soft opening and had a slice of the classic pizza Marguerita and a spinach salad with chicken. Since I was alone, I sat at the Chef's table and watched the cooks toss dough made in-house right in the front window. I can imagine kids would have a ball watching these men and women work. The kitchen is open to the front and side of the restaurant, which is inviting and warm. During the remodel, the owners took out the drop ceilings and discovered the original wood ceiling. The restaurant also has a bar in the back, with a spacious patio. The Beer is cold and cheap and the food is outstanding. I can't wait to go again!

Andrea T.

Yelp
Really. Good. Pizza. If thats what you are looking for then go here. The slice option is great if you just need a snack!

Niya M.

Yelp
So good. So happy. So good bartenders and pizza/wing/sandwich makers. Love it. Give ur money. Dani.

Allie K.

Yelp
Half cheese half pepperoni 14 inch So good!!! One of the best pizzas I've ever had. Such a cool environment, great music, outdoor seating area is awesome. Instantly one of my favorite places to eat here in San Mo

Marian H.

Yelp
Valentino's has supported our student organizations on multiple occasions and we have been beyond pleased every time! the pizza is delicious and our students love the atmosphere. The management and staff are incredibly helpful and attentive. WE WILL BE BACK! Thank you Wendi, Reagan, and everyone at Valentinos!! Marian and The FAC Study Abroad Team

Steve T.

Yelp
This is a San Marcos staple. Not many places where you can sit down and have an adult beverage and pizza like Valentinos.

Simon D.

Yelp
Not one to leave any reviews but gotta say I was disappointed today with my order, pepperoni pizza didn't really compare to what I order all the time

Madison B.

Yelp
The food is delicious! Great flavor. Staff are all very friendly. The price is great! And it's a cute cozy little place to comfortably hangout and enjoy company. Prices are awesome and they stay open super late! Will definitely come back!!!

Thomas R.

Yelp
Small area but good food and service. Live that I can order by the slice especially when the kids are with us. Wings are a must also.

John F.

Yelp
Friendly staff and a great dining experience. The arcade machine is loaded with cool video games too lol

Kay C.

Yelp
Megan our server was so amazing and sweet. Great pizza, top notch service and beautiful atmosphere.

Allison K.

Yelp
Okay pizza, pretty mediocre service. Not impressed tbh since all of San Marcos tried to hype them up when they reopened

Wendi W.

Yelp
Pizza is amazing. Wings are the best I've ever had. service is on point, drinks are on point, atmosphere and vibe are on point! I suggested you try one of the subs they are huge!

Michael C.

Yelp
Very happy Valentino's is back. Went there Friday night after Sight & Sounds. Pizza was excellent! Perhaps now my favorite in central Texas area. Service was freindly and efficient with a couple good draft beers on tap. Atmospehere was just OK, only because of the overly loud, unintelligible music was too much. But it's Friday night in a college town, so be it. Defientely recommend trying them for their great pizza!

Kharley S.

Yelp
Good food. Great specials. Fun atmosphere. Full bar. Quick service. Would definitely recommend.

Delaney D.

Yelp
Ordered carry out, food was ready really fast! Awesome food all around. Really pleased with how it all came out. We got the wings and a Caesar salad and both were great as well. I'm actually visiting from GA so it was recommended by my boyfriends family.
