Yelp
My boyfriend and I have been to Valenza several times, which is why I found it surprising that I apparently had yet to write a Yelp review. I tried to upload as many pictures as I could from our dinners here, but Yelp only allows 10.
Appetizers
We have tried:
-fritto misto (calamari, ga. red shrimp, cod, lemon, capers)
-cozze (mussels, roasted garlic, fennel, sambuca, tomatoes, white wine, ciabatta)
-bietole arrosto (roasted beets, buratta, fennel, mercier apples, arugula, radish, lemon)
-pane (our rosemary foccacia and rustic sourdough, whipped ricotta)
-polpo (grilled mediterranean octopus, panelle,
castelvetrano olives, chickpea, pine nuts, aleppo)
-meatballs
Looking at my list, I'm impressed with us that we've had so many different appetizers! I remember on our very first evening at Valenza, our waiter brought us complimentary meatballs which were exquisite. If I remember correctly, they may have come from Vero Pizzeria, their sister restaurant. That was very kind of him, and it was very appreciated. You honestly can't go wrong with any of these appetizers... they are all incredible.
Entrées
We have tried:
-capellini (fresh heirloom tomato, basil, parmesan)
-linguine nero (squid ink pasta, ruby red shrimp, 'nduja, green onion, tomato, white wine)
-salmone (grilled steelhead salmon, umbria lentils, swiss chard, cauliflower)
-special: scallops
Both pastas are yummy. The capellini is very light. There isn't a ton of flavor here, but the fresh basil made the dish. The linguine nero has a lot more going on than the capellini. It's fresh and flavorful, and visually stunning. Beware, your unmentionables may turn black in the following days after consuming it, as your body digests it. Do not be alarmed. It's just the squid ink. This will go away! I say this because we panicked when it first happened to us. The salmon dish is just as tasty as it is beautiful. The scallop dish I had last year was amazing. It was a special, and I hope that one day it can make it to the permanent menu. Until then, I have but memories...
Dessert
We have tried:
-ricotta cheesecake with salted pine nut caramel
-crostata
Be sure to save room for dessert. The first dessert we ever got here was a peach crostata. They must change their crostata seasonally because the last time we were here, it is: ga apples, blackberries, balsamic, vanilla gelato. Both crostatas were divine. I can't pick between them, but I'd confidently choose whatever crostata they have as my favorite of their desserts because I know it will be good. My boyfriend loved the ricotta cheesecake, which was also delicious.
Of course we will continue to be recurring customers. The ambiance is comfortably elegant. It feels upscale but not stuffy. The service is great--we always have friendly and helpful servers. Next time (because God willing, of course there will be a next time), I would like to try the ravioli because I've heard great things.
