The 16 Best Bakeries in O‘ahu | Eater

"The one thing you must not miss at this Filipino bakery, an import from California, is the ube cheese pandesal. Crunchy breadcrumbs just on the verge of burnt coat the outside of the fluffy vibrant-purple bun, which gives way to a cream cheese center. Other bakeries offer their own versions, but none comes close to Valerio’s." - Martha Cheng

Came here for the first time. Ordered the Ube Pandesal with cream cheese which I heard was the most popular. It is freaking delicious, but then I feel fat and guilty after looking at myself in the mirror after consuming 1/2 dozen of them lol. I also ordered other Filipino treats such as Bico and Bibingka were ok. Overall, decently priced and the pandesal is a must for home or at work or even a party. Tastes better when eaten warm and hot. Staff are friendly and fast. Don't forget to pull a line ticket when you arrive. This shop is located within the Seafood City market along several other stores. Tons of parking and a small area to sit at throughout the store to enjoy our food or snacks.

Google
total random pit stop in the grocer but oh so worth it, it felt borderline luxurious: the flan ube cookie was soft-sweet like a custard and rich with that musky ube, just a tad too crumbly. the cheese and ube bread rolls were meh in comparison, so take a spin with their more flashy-lookin pastries, pretty privilege is applicable here y'all ☝️😔.

Google
Got lucky and the cheese balls had just come out to cool!! If you’re lucky to get one that’s warm it’s absolutely delicious!! Bakery is located INSIDE Seafood City. Service is fast so don’t let the line discourage you.

4/15/2022 Went back today for a Butter Cream Pianono roll and Pimento Bulilit (small rolls with pimento cream cheese in the middle). Yum! Went to an Easter brunch on 4/17 and sis brought two boxes of Ube Cheese Pandesal. Woah! First time I tried this pastry. Awesome! It's one of my faves now so the next time I get to Valerio's I'll pick some up. 3/19/2022 First time trying Valerio's since they moved to the inside of Seafood City. I used to go often when they were by Tanioka's. The pimento cheese little buns and the pineapple cream little buns were my favorites! We've also tried the Balintawak and that was good too. Today I tried something new, Butter Cream Pianono, which hubby loves. I also got a chicken empanada. Both items were good! The Butter Cream Pianono was a light and fluffy sponge roll with a sugary buttercream filling. So delicious! And this was only the second Filipino empanada that I've tried. This one was my favorite so far! The empanada's baked, shiny, crispy, and slightly sweet shell was filled with a soft mixture of shredded chicken, carrots, onion, and maybe potato. Very tasty! The only way that it could've been better was if the filling was a little saltier to offset the sweet crust. Uh oh, now when we get to Seafood City, which isn't very often, I'm going to need to stop by Valerio's! Don't forget to take a number as soon as you get there.

Google
The ube cream filled pan de sal are delicious. The box of six is only $12. Place gets busy try and get there right when they open at 8 and get to taste them freshly outta the oven. This is not a sit in just grab and go inside seafood city.

Google
I really love the Ube Pandesal with the cheese inside. I am a big time ube and sweetpotato lover. I'm always looking for pastries and breads and items using these ingredients. My son told me about this place a few years ago after he moved out of Hawaii and we immediately went to go try it and have fell in love with it. The only reason why I don't give them a five out of five is because sometimes they put the pandesal in 5he box when they're still piping hot out of the oven and that causes them to act weird in the box. As it builds up moisture. Sometimes they put too much cream inside the bread and I don't like too much cream. It has to be a good balance maybe they should load the bread filler with controlled portion sizes. I think if they properly handle the pandesal after it comes out of the oven and allow it to cool off a little bit it will be a better product maybe a perfect product. Don't let it cool all the way down but just let it cool off enough when it's not still 350°. If you box bread that is too hot it doesn't quite set and it becomes kind of mushy and weird. The staff is very nice and polite they're just overwhelmed and busy but that's what happens when you have a good product and people want it you're in demand. It's too bad that they are hidden away inside of a fish market in waipahu. They need their own standalone location. Again I love this place a four stars a little low but a five-star little high I wish I can give them four and a half Stars. Either way if you're in waipahu go to the fish market across the street from Don Quixote and behind McDonald's and inside next to jollibee's is this hidden away Little gem. Oh and one other thing. When I say they sell out, I mean they sell out! So sometimes you might want to call and reserve an order 6 in a box. People literally line up in the morning for these treats before the store opens.

Google
Our go-to spot when I'm too busy baking for my family myself. Absolutely love their donuts, Spanish bread and suman.

Yelp
Inside the Seafood City, On the right. When you spot it, be sure to get a number immediately. Can't be served without a number! Get an Ube cheese pandasal. Everything else is wonderful also, but get the Ube cheese pandasal and it's even better if you get a warm one

Yelp
Valerios is one of those places that has NOT changed the size of their baked good! Of late I've been lamenting about how the price of everything has gone up and the size of the purchased items have decreased (also applies to the quantity of items you can buy). Anywho! I came by this morning to pick up some Ube Cheese Pandesal and to my surprise (I'm not as surprised anymore that their prices have gone up), the pandesal was the same size as before the price change! How about that?? Then! I love that VTB keeps bringing new things to the "table." Donuts, new pastries, diabetic and low carb no-no's in all sizes and shapes. How about that?! A bakery that doesn't sell JUST sliced bread and rolls but building on more goodies to lure you in and keep you coming back. And oh: PICK A NUMBER or you'll be passed over. You must purchase your items at VTB and not the Seafood City or Grill cashier. I'll brave the smells, the invasive personal space takers and dangerous parking lot driving for their Ube Cheese Pandesal any day.

Yelp
I've never had a pandesal before and oh. my. gosh. It was INCREDIBLE. We received a box as a gift and I was blown away. First, the smell was so enticing I had to exercise extreme self control in order to wait and not crack open the box immediately upon receipt. The ube cheese pandesal was unlike anything I've had before but it was amazing. If I had to compare it to anything it would be almost manapua-like but sweet and with cream cheese frosting filling. It was dense, doughy and so flavorful. I can't wait to try more of this bakeries pastries!

Sam T.

Yelp
Check out system could be better. Service was good. Most of the aunties in the back are very helpful. 10/10 would recommend the following items: nilupak, cassava cake, yema cake, cheese pimiento! There's so much more so if you're thinking of giving something a try I say go for it!

Yelp
Valerio's is a hidden gem located inside of Seafood City. Always would come here with my mom because she always eats ube pandasal every single day and comes here every week to get her fix. Never paid attention too much until i realized the bakery behind the glass offers a variety of different donuts and dessert that i've never even heard of. One look at the desserts and one look at the prices will make you want to buy one! Huge donuts for less than $3? sign me up! I got the ube oreo cheesecake croicup and it was sooooo goood! I only ate half of it and saved the rest for my dessert later for $2.75. It's enough to enjoy with someone else if you wanted to share it! It's on the messier side though, you'll have crumbs everywhere on your clothing if you aren't careful. Next time I come back I want to try tuxedo croissant and the soufflé cheesecake. Other than the donuts provided behind the glass. They offer a variety of fresh packaged bread. One of my faves is the ube bulilit. Service is also good too! Workers are nice and friendly. Most days there isn't a long line which is good as well!

Yelp
ooh... omg.. Wow! What a surprise to see the glass display with DONUTS!, Run don't walk to Valerios's. hehe. Since when did they have donuts?! per cashier about 2 months ago. I made a stop for ube bread and ended up getting a few donuts, then came back the next week to grab more to share with my coworkers. Valerio's Tropical Bakeshop located in Seafood City on your right next to Jolliebee. Thank goodness for this bakeshop, got all of my favorite Filipino goodies. I try to avoid coming here but its so hard to. My weakness and now that they have donuts, its even more hard to avoid. Lets talk about the donuts, its not just your typical glazed donuts. Its fancy kine donuts, cannoli, twix, tiramisu, chocolate haupia, strawberry cheesecake, black forest, smores, leche flan, banana, and are you ready for this, ultimate Ube Halaya Donut!! I couldn't resist, got me myself the twix donut and ube. This Sunday, will is my Cheat day hehe!! I couldn't wait and ate the twix donut after our lunch, since twix is my favorite candy bar. The donut has twix flavored frosting and a small piece of twix on top. Later that night after dinner, I half ube donut with my other half. My son claimed both Ube donuts, he loved it too! The verdict, Omg that was some good Ube donuts. The donuts are actually really good , the ube donut has ube cream in the middle topped with ube pillows and more ube on the top. I would have to say Ube is my favorite my favorite! During my 2nd visit out to Valerios for more donuts, I called my son to ask if he wanted to try other flavors but he chose the ube again. Ube wins! Not sure if the special donuts are availabe for a limited time, I hope not. I will be back for more sooon. Be sure to pull a number first thing, while waiting grab all the items you need and decide on what goods to get before your number is called.

Yelp
No matter what time of the day you visit, there are always customers lined up waiting to purchase their favorite baked goods from Valerio's. I'm sure every customer has their favorite, but personally, I go there for the Ube Hayala Puff. It's a light, flaky pastry filled with Ube flavored cream. Plus you can't go wrong with the price; $1.99 each! Valerio's is located in Waipahu Town Center inside of Seafood City. It's on the right hand side as soon as you enter right after Jollibee, which is another one of my favorites but that's a whole different story...
google avatar

Lynn S.

Yelp
I came here special for some ube cream cheese pan de sal because I was in Waipahu for other business. They're $2 each in plastic bags. But if you want a box, they have it prepackaged in a set of six. The line can get long. They have a pull-a-number system so it moves pretty quickly. The pastries are delicious but I took one star off for the ambiance because it stinks in there. It's located within a grocery store with other little shops. Something there has a powderful fish aroma that I don't care to be smelling when I'm trying to be in a pastry kind of mood. Lol! Sorry, just being honest. But the smell is worth it. Just go eat your pastry somewhere far outside of the store.

Yelp
Love their cream cheese ube pandesal!!! They don't skimp out on cream cheese and so soft!!! Staff there, are so nice too.

Yelp
Located in Seafood City Waipahu is a small little bakeshop that will hit your pastry cravings in a big way! There are so many things to choose from. Assorted ube pastries, snow puffies, empanadas and so much more! We went to get some of their famous ube cheese pandesal but unfortunetly they were sold out. With that, we ordered their nutella cream filled donut and ube cinnabon. Let me tell you first, the nutella cream filled donut is delicious!! It is here for a limited time so i will have to go back to get them again. The ube cinnabon was actually pretty good. I just love how they experiment with different pastries and it still comes out tasting good.

Yelp
I'm not a fan of anything ube, but our awesome neighbor got us this ube roll. Took a photo to share, my husband and son enjoyed it. it was a pleasant surprise.
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
Great service (make sure to grab a ticket!) and the ube puff was light and yummy. I also enjoyed the cannoli donut. the cheesecake souffle wasn't as sweet as I was expecting but the texture was great. Also purchased some ube brownies (haven't tried them yet). Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Came here for a dozen ube cheese bread, cheese bulilit, and pan de coco, but also purchased one of each (ube halaya, donut, cinnamon donut, Leche flan cheesecake, ube cinnamon roll, suman cassava, suman ube). Of all I'd have to say my favorites were the ube halaya (light and melt-in-your-mouth delicious) and the suman cassava as it wasn't overly sweet. The donuts were airy and not dense, but rather plain compared to the other goodies in the case. The leche cheesecake on the other hand was a bit too sweet for me; my husband finished that one. My #1 is the ube cheese bread though. We buy a dozen so we can eat some fresh but also freeze some for breakfast throughout the week. Line moved fast, don't forget to take a number! They have the ube cheese bread in the back so you ask for it when they call your number. Love this place, always make it a point to get some cheese bread for holidays and special occasions!

Yelp
Valerio's Tropical Bakeshop, located in Seafood City in Waipahu. Their ube bililit is the best! Breads are baked fresh daily and are sold fast! There's a variety of ube breads, Spanish breads, cheese bread, pianono rolls in many different flavors, flan and more! It's a small little bakeshop but so popular! Prices are reasonable!
google avatar

Fely S.

Yelp
When parents in town, they always come here to buy their sweets. Service is fast and waiting for your special orders takes time. Came for their pandesal with cream cheese which they are just coming out off the oven. The waiting area can be busy and crowded with people waiting for service.
google avatar

Yelp
100% would go back! I need to try everything! I got carioca (mochi donuts on a stick), banana q (like platanos maduros), chicken empanada (warm, crispy crust, and savory filling), ukoy (akin to veggie kakiage), cinnabun (with ube glaze), leche donut, ube donut, and pimiento bulilit (my favorite of the day)! I love sweet things but my favorite is a savory and sweet combo. These pimiento bulilit were AMAZING! Sweet rolls with creamy pimento cheese (which I haven't really seen much of since I moved from Florida). Bite sized and perfect for a snack! Can't wait to try more of their goods there are so many options!

Yelp
Ube cheese is what's a popular item. I wanted to try the tuna empanadas, but they didn't have anything tuna... bummers. Ordered 3 boxes of Ube cheese, two tempura (Filipino version) and Ube Hopia. Ube cheese is the best. 6 pieces of Ube cheese for $11.

Yelp
Yooooo, okay, Valerio's is the spot if you are looking for some good Filipino baked goods. Valerio's experiments with many popular favorites. Every heard of an ube and cream cheese stuffed pandesal? Well, now you have. Located in Seafood City, in Waipahu, Valerio's has got you covered for most of your cravings list. They have many different flavors available and their prices are great. There is ample parking outside. Seafood City is ALWAYS busy though. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ WORD OF ADVICE: Grab a ticket as soon as you walk up...even if you may not buy anything. I say this because they only assist people by number. Standing in a made up line will do you no good here. Even if you "just want to check out really quick." I usually go on Sundays and I pull a number and the number I pull is like 20 numbers away. If I end up not getting anything (which only happened once), I try to scope out the older aunties that have a number kind of far away and I give my number to them. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Wait times arent terrible -- the ladies behind the counter are pretty quick to help people. Just please, know what you want and don't hold other people up. Id say that the longest I waited to check out was maybe 10-15 minutes. There is a cold food display which usually has various cakes, cupcakes, and chilled foods. They also have hot food (empanadas and other stuff) sometimes. Here, you arent paying for atmosphere, youre paying for quality baked goods. Also in Seafood City: Grill City (Filipino food, duh), Jollibee, Red Ribbon, Magnolia Ice Cream. And in the back next to the fish frying, there is another hot food stand. Beware though, the prices are kind of up there. Lastly, remember to keep your receipt handy. Uncle at the door looks at it in order for you to leave (lol).

Yelp
Valerio's is located in seafood city Waipahu town center. Parking is not an issue. They are highly known for their ube cheese pandesal. It is a ube flavored pandesal filled with cream cheese. Perfect for breakfast and a cup of coffee or a midday snack. One is never enough. I ended up getting two dozen

Yelp
Awesome customer Service! Must try; Custard & UBE puff pastries & Caramel Flan Cheesecake Make sure to pull a number and wait for your number to be called!

Yelp
U-BE in my heart! Valerio's Tropical Bakeshop, home of Toto's special ube cheese pandesal! Warm soft bread on the outside, with a melty cream cheese filling on the inside. They run out real quick, so walk yourself into Seafood City in Waipahu (this bake shop is located on the right hand side of the store), take a number, place your order, shop around and go pick up some hot and fresh pandesal to take home. One or two never made it home because it's that good.
google avatar

Jo B.

Yelp
The best bakery, I've absolutely loved everything I've ever tried from here. My favorites are the cheese pandesal, ube cheese pandesal, cheese bulilit, ube bulilit, puff pastries and they have the best cascaron ever !! It's got a thin crunchy caramelized sugar shell, they're warm, soft, chewy and perfectly fried. They have and always use their ticket system, workers are always nice and friendly. I wish they would open a location in salt lake area, it would do so well in this area!

Yelp
Was in Ewa area for another reason and the group I was with said let's meet at seafood city at 9:30. I was confused - were we going to eat seafood first thing in the morning? I arrived and went into this amazing huge grocery store and was told we were actually here for the bake shop. They had already bought a box of the ube pandesal for us to share. The lines didn't seem long and it was just to the right of the grocery store as we walked in. The woman who had bought the box said she comes in from town just for these pastries. They were huge and so we had a knife and split them. I wasn't expecting the deliciousness. They were warm, the cream cheese inside was gooey, the bread was soft. I could've eaten the whole thing but didn't. I thoroughly enjoyed a the experience of having a pastry that I've never had and it being excellent. And the best thing - $10 for half a dozen! I can see that these are prolly best enjoyed fresh and warm. Maybe I could get a box and then reheat in my air fryer? If I'm ever in this area again I'd definitely get a box to share with my neighbors in town.
google avatar

Ina T.

Yelp
Haven't been to the actual storefront but I got a few boxes of the ube cheese pandesal from a friend. I don't know too many Filipino treats but the ones my Filipino neighbors would give over the fence during their parties....for all my my Filipino friends/neighbors I grew up with...if you are reading this I'm Disappointed with all y'all!!! I get it you want to hold on to a good secret but c'mon guys, you let me down lol Nah nah but on the REAL....buggah is REAL good! Nothing I can really compare it to, tome. I love the taro rolls from PCC in Laie and the texture of the bread reminds me of it, the center is like the middle of a cream cheese danish then the top is just delicious! I had to cut myself off after 3 lol YOU MUST TRY this delicious delicacy and you best believe I'm going myself to get my own box.
google avatar

Ward K.

Yelp
When I think about their pandesals, I think of the song Intentions by JB. Picture-perfect, you don't need no filter Gorgeous, make'em drop dead you a killer Shower you with all my attention Yeah, these are my only intentions Stay in the kitchen, cooking up, cut your own bread That's right these ube, cream cheese filled pandesals are a killer and they certainly do not need a filter. These soft warm ube buns are so good. It's like eating those Hawaiian Sweet Bread rolls after you toast them in the oven but made from a purple yam that we call ube. Where is Valerio's Tropical Bakeshop? It's in the Waipahu Town Center Parking lot and they are actually inside Seafood City which is kind of like a Filipino supermarket. You will see other known places inside like Jollibee which Valerio's is right next to. What are they known for? They make their own bread and who doesn't like fresh bread? Like what I said in the beginning, they are known for their ube cream cheese filled pandesals. They sell them 6 in a box ($10.50) No, not one, or two, but six. Don't get any crazy ideas of having them split them up either. It comes in a box of six, if you want to separate them, you have to do it yourself. Come on, they are slammed and don't have time for picky customers telling them some kind of complicated math equation. Get your six or multiples of it and be thankful you even got some. Why did I come here? I had this place bookmarked for some time but I don't come down to the west side too often and when I do, I'm usually in a hurry to come back to town. However I had to take my fur kids to see the vet and with the covid-19 thing happening I haven't been working so I had some time on my hands. But what planted the seed was when I saw two of my Yelp Buddies Sheryl M and Kathy H checking in and grabbing some pandesals. Find a parking spot in their free lot and run inside and MAKE SURE YOU GRAB A TICKET! If you don't grab a ticket or you might find yourself waiting forever to get your hands on those soft ube buns. Just a suggestion if you live in town, grab some extra for your townie friends who like ube and cream cheese as they will thank you for it as there isn't this kind in town.
google avatar

Roz M.

Yelp
If you love ube, come to Valerio's Tropical Bakeshop. They have all sorts of ube baked goods. My favorite here is the ube bulilit. Ube bulilit are mini sweet rolls that are stuffed with ube filling. There are about a dozen in pre-package bags and they are sold for under $5.00. It is a pretty good bargain. When you visit their bakery, try it out. It goes well with coffee. I haven't tried the other ube baked goods, yet. In time, I will get to sample the other ube offerings. I can't wait! So, if you are an ube lover, go and check out VTB! You'll thank me for that!

Yelp
Location: They are located inside Seafood City in Waipahu. Food: Come here for all your favorite Filipino pastries! We love getting their freshly made pandesal. We buy at least 2 dozen at a time. We've also enjoyed with ube pandesal, ube with cheese pandesal, pan de ube, and etc. Price: The bakery goods are reasonable at a few dollars for bag/dozen of your favorite items. Overall, we love their baked goods and will continue to buy their products.

Melody W.

Yelp
The pastries are so delicious. Always no wait time. Love that they have so much variety to choose from and you don't have to go so far to get certain one.

Yelp
Location: Valerio's is inside seafood city super market in Waipahu. Service: You need to take a number to order, pay and then wait for your order if they are still making it. Most of the bread choices are on their shelf though. Food: I love their ube bulilit.. it is a small bread with ube fillings. I got to try their ube cheese pandesal. It's an ube pandesal with cream cheese inside. It's a little heavy but really good. I want to try just the ube pandesal without the cream cheese but these are so in demand that it's always not available. They have so many variety to choose from. Right now there's usually a long wait because the ube pandesal is still "hot and new"... but I can see that the staff tries their best to speed it up as much as they can.
google avatar

Ray B.

Yelp
Located inside of Seafood City Waipahu, it's located on the right side of the store past the Jollibee. Plenty of strip mall parking is available. They employ a ticket number system now so it's a lot more organized than in previous times I haven been here. The line goes pretty fast so don't be too discouraged if you see a lot of people waiting. So what do people come here for? The Ube Cheese Pandesal. It's priced at $10.50 for a half dozen. I ordered a half dozen and received a pretty heavy box. The order can out fresh and warm. The pandesal had a good amount of filling. The bread was warm, light and tasty. The cheese was creamy and the perfect sweetness. Well worth waiting in line for. Other great items to order are the Spanish rolls, the ensamadas, and the regular pandesal. This is a great bakery in the area.

Yelp
I was first introduced to Valerio's Tropical Bakeshop (VTB) about 2 years ago. A former colleague brought these incredible Ube Baskets and I just marveled over the eye-catching purple ube blended in the rolls. The verdict? Rolls were really, really good but when I saw the label and address on the box, I sighed. Why did I sigh? I'm a townie and don't mind traveling for good food but Waipahu is a tad bit too far for me. This past Labor Day was a day to be thankful. I was thankful I had the day off and spent a good part of my day with close friends. After having a sub-par Chinese lunch, a foodie friend suggested we drive to Waipahu for Halo Halo, where I thought she was semi-crazy. But I could also redeem my complimentary butter mamon from Red Ribbon Bakeshop at the same time. Most of the members agreed so I hopped in my car and turned on the GPS. Located in Seafood City Supermarket, VTB is a chain that originated from the Philippines. Now going on through the 3rd generation, VTB has multiple locations throughout California, Nevada and Illinois. Hawaii was added to the list in August 2014, the same time when Seafood City Supermarket opened. This Filipino bakery is just next door to Jollibee. As you walk in VTB, you'll see the cashier and to the right, there are many shelves of assorted baked Filipino breads, with notables of pan de sal, ensaimadas and Spanish rolls. My friends and I were marveling over the baked breads but for some odd reason most of the packaging had stickers placed over the ingredients so it was hard to tell if they were sweet or savory. Not knowing how the baked goods would be, some people in my group were very skeptical in buying. It would have been nice to be offered samples to encourage sales but I took a chance and bought a couple of bags. I wasn't sure when I'd be in the Waipahu area again. Near the cashier they also have assorted empanadas in the warmer. We had just eaten lunch so I wasn't really hungry. But I had to convince myself to buy one. If not, I'd walk out empty handed and most likely regretting. There were also several glass showcases that had ala carte items and refrigerated items, such as leche flan (baked custard), for sale. Most of the offerings at VTB looked really yummy. The verdict? The Ube mini rolls (Ube Bulilit) were AMAZING. I immediately opened one of my bags to share with friends and they were well liked. I was pleasantly surprised that the Ube filling had some chunks inside. The filling wasn't mashed into a paste for a monotone texture. I also enjoyed my tuna empanada. Crust was good and filled generously with tuna that wasn't fishy nor mixed with excess fillers. I'd order this again. As mentioned in other reviews, the setback of VTB is the customer service. The female staff behind the counter who assisted with check out purely lacked enthusiasm. No greeting. No smile. However, there were a group of about 6 female staff who were chatting away while packaging baked goods for distribution. Amongst their immediate group they were happy and cheerful but it wasn't directed towards the customer. Overall, VTB is a great bakery offering Filipino treats. If you're unable to make your way to Waipahu, I did notice a whole bunch of tagged crates for distribution. You should be able to find VTB goodies at selected Times Supermarkets.

Yelp
They are located inside of Seafood City right after Jollibee. You do need to pull a number to order their famous Toto's Special - Ube cheese Pandesal. But if you are just grabbing from their selection of pastries that are already packed, then you do not need to pull a number. If you are going for the Toto's Special, I suggest you head there early because they do sell out. If you are buying just for yourself, I highly recommend only getting 2 the most. They are very filling! If you order a dozen and plan on spreading it out through out the week, you can freeze the reset and pop it in the toaster oven when you're craving one. Their fresh pandesals are just as yummy. My family and I would order a dozen and shop as we each have a hot pandesal. So many ways to enjoy their pandesal. 1) Toast and add butter 2) Toast and add your favorite ice cream. I put Ube. 3) Toast and enjoy with your coffee or hot chocolate. I don't really buy anything else from here. But I have heard good things about their pastries. When my family and I want pandesal, we will make the drive to Waipahu.

Yelp
I used to go to Nanding's bakery for delicious Filipino style baked goods, but they're constantly sold out of Ube pandesal. I'm happy to have found Valerio's bake shop in Seafood Market, they seem to never sell out of my favorites and the staff is always so kind and helpful. You can call in to have them put products on the side for you for easy pick-up. The bread is as delicious as it's aroma. I stop by every time after grocery shopping at seafood city, such a convenient location. The parking is also large and plenty.

Yelp
The Ube Cheese Pandesal is absolutely amazing. The slight sweetness of the ube bread, paired with the delicious creamy and gooey cheese is just perfect. Bought half a dozen, and it's always disappears from our table the next day. Gotta get the full dozen next time. It's that good!

Yelp
Freshly baked. Located inside Seafood City Supermarket (I know you read the review), this small Filipino bakery packs a lot of snacks for the UBE lover in you. I know you read all those reviews on my fixation for UBE. Now the bakery is inside the market but you pay for your items at valerio's front counter. Surprisingly enough, the bakery doesn't bake loaves of bread, instead they bake pandesals aka bread rolls. They smell delicious and when you get them warm, they don't need butter because these just melt in your mouth. You can get Spanish rolls, empanadas, banana lumpia, cassava cake slices, puto, siopao, buko, hapio, well you get the idea. Overall four stars. I love that it's freshly baked and the aroma fills the air. I hate that it's freshly baked and wrapped right away without cooking down so the steams forms water droplets in the package. Classic love hate relationship. Now excuse me, time for Magnolia. Guess what I'm getting? I know you read the review. M

Yelp
This review is only for their soft filled small breads. We came to Valerio's, a Filipino bakery, in the afternoon when it seemed that most of their hot bakery items were sold out. But, they had a lot of pre packed bakery items left on their shelves for people to purchase and take home. Because my family and I just wanted to try out their smaller items (some packages were meant for larger family sizes), we set our eyes on two packages of dinner roll size breads: ube and pineapple cream cheese filled breads. The ube filled bread was just ok. It tasted like a sweet starch filled bread. The ube wasn't really pronounced in flavor. I've tried other ube desserts before and never really got on board with them either. However, the pineapple cream cheese bread was delicious. I loved the bits of sweet and tart pineapple throughout this bread. I tasted a little of the cream cheese in the bread too. Valerio's had so many other Filipino bakery items we haven't tried yet. When we do return, we will come earlier in the morning in order to get the best items.

Yelp
If you love ube and pastries, this is the place to go. They have a pretty good variety of ube goodies. They're known for their ube cheese pandesal and they sell out fast.

Yelp
So what the heck is ube, you ask? Is it a sweet potato? Nope. It's a purple yam! Is there a difference? Who knows?! All I know is that potatoes are grown underground and yams grow on vines above the ground! Oh, and in case you didn't know, it's pronounced ooohbeh :D So, I've eaten ube things before. Ice Cream, pancakes, an assortment of ube pastries, but I can honestly say, none of them have that "real" ube taste. Valerio's Tropical Bakeshop (VTB) has all kinds of breads and pastries, but the pandesal with or without the cream cheese filling, is where it's at! Super soft and always fresh. They sell out quickly, so don't be surprised if you find yourself having to wait for a fresh batch to come out of the oven. But, trust. It's worth the wait. VTB is located in the Waipahu Town Center and specifically inside of Seafood City. It's to the right of the entrance next to Jollibee. If you're there to buy pandesal or anything else that the workers needs to box for you, be sure to take a number. If you just wanna buy something pre-packaged, you can just go to the counter to pay for it. Anyway, check these guys out and down some pandesals and let me know what ya think of it. I bet you'll agree with me that the stuff is crack!

Yelp
One word: Ube That's all. Sure, there are other baked goods sold at VTB, but ube takes the roll so to speak. LOCATION: Seafood City Supermarket in Waipahu. As you enter, veer towards the right past Jollibee and you'll find the rows and shelves of their baked goods. Make sure to try the : 1. Pandesal 2. Ube bulilit (smaller pieces of balintawak) 3. Ube hopia (a favorite!) 4. Puto 5. Puto Cucinta (with coconut) 6. Empanadas (when available) NOTE: 1. 15 cents per bag (in case you didn't bring your own) 2. All products must be paid at VTB's service counter/cashier. Their convenient location in Seafood City makes it easy for (literally) one stop shopping. Customer service is friendly, polite, and efficient. Due to the global pandemic, VTB has taken various safe-guarding measures to ensure a safe/comfortable environment for employees and customers: 1. Customers MUST pull a number in order to be helped. 2. Please wait for your number to be called before approaching the counter. 3. Please wear a mask before entering the Seafood City Supermarket. 4. There is plexiglass partition at the counter to promote social distancing between employees and customers. There is a small opening at the bottom where payment transactions can take place. BOTTOM LINE: Make your way to VTB for delicious Filipino baked goods!

Yelp
Ladies And Gents, They Have A Line Now! This Filipino bakery is located next to Joilibee inside Seafood City Supermarket. Yes they have a line now! The last time I came here, buying pastries was a Fustercluck! The ordering counter was a "cluster" of people with sometimes two cashiers. So whoever was "loud enough", "makes first eye contact", "or "friends with the cashier" was usually next in line, nevermind the dude standing in close proximity holding a bag of pastries! It got to the point where people would just bully their way to the front like they own the place, I never complained, (in fact I just expected it everytime and got use to it ) but people around me got upset about it. I mean, whaddya do when the person rushing the front is a old lady? LOL. Anyways enough bout that, lets move on to the sweet stuff. I come here for two things. Balintawak or Ube Rolls. Never heard of it? Dont worry, I'll save you a googling session and simply put it as vanilla pudding(PINK)and sweet potato rolls(PURPLE), respectively. As far as I know, this is one of the few places on the isle where you can get them freshly made! I mean you can get em at some grocery stores, but they are often rock hard or its old and have claylike consistency. Here the filling and bread is soft, the pasty filling: DREAMY CREAMY. I've said enough. My only gripes are the twist ties yo! I don't think they honor the standard bread code system with the color of the twist ties (so i cannot strategically pick the cream of the crop!) Other thing is some of the Balintawaks, the bread is smashed! But I am greatful that this place has a Line with a "Line." Now! MRC=71%

Yelp
It have been a long time since I've eaten this delicious creation! I really can't lie this might have been the best thing I've eaten In a long time. This goodness malt in your mouth when you bite into it, the filling is sweet at it's finest. It have a perfect balance of everything. The location of the bakery is really far so I would not go here often but I do come here when I'm craving for some delicious ube cream cheese bread!!!!This time when I went here there wasn't lot of people the bread is pretty stocked, they still open for business under the coronavirus situation. I know a lot of local businesses have to shut down temporarily due to this unfortunate situation but there's still local that are still open for takeout and delivery, it would be great to support all those little businesses. Food 10/10 As I said earlier the bread is baked to perfection and it is soft and chewy once you reheat it. This is one of the best bakery I've been to in Hawaii. The ube cream cheese pandesal is super delicious!!!!

Yelp
We rarely go to the west side, but when we do.. we always stop at Valerio's to grab some Filipino breads. Carbo loading is real, folks! They sell authentic, traditional and freshly baked filipino breads and pastries which I grew up eating. They are located inside Seafood city in Waipahu.. on the right side once you enter the supermarket. Their breads are usually displayed on the shelves but you can ask the staff if they have hot, straight out of the oven breads. Be sure to brace yourself when you get there because the aroma of breads and pastries from their ovens will make you hungry. Trust me. My favorites from their menu -- Pandesal: Their version of this filipino breakfast staple bread is very delicious. It's HUGE and semi sweet.. you can eat this alone without any additional stuffing/spread. They really leveled up the normal recipe of pandesal which I really love. Great with a cup of coffee or tea. Ube Cheese Pandesal: This is the current craze in the Philippines that they also brought here in Hawaii. You can really taste the Ube in the bread plus the cream cheese and ube halaya filling inside makes it more addicting to eat. The burnt cheese topping added more flavor and makes this bread 100% enjoyable to eat. Perfect for afternoon snacks! By the way, they cook their own Ube Halaya (Purple Yam Jam) and I think that's what made it special. Creamy and mouthwatering. I grew up eating Ube Halaya every weekend and their Ube Halaya is authentic-tasting! Nom nom nom! Ube Bulilit: That semi-dense bread filled with Ube halaya inside.. just thinking about it all over again makes me drool. Purple Yam Jam goodness in every bite. Very tasty and sweet.. just the way i like it! Ube Pastillas Bread: I am not an Ube lover.. teehee. The bread in this one is more softer than the usual. It's topped with butter piled with ube fine crumbs. So delicious. It also has Pastillas filling. Pastillas is a famous filipino sweet treat - soft milk candy. Sweet but delightfully rich in flavor. Buko Pie - It's a pie with young big coconut Shreds with custard, and a flaky crust. It's creamy, fresh and buttery. I'm surprised cos it tastes like my favorite classic Buko Pie from the Philippines. Sinfully good! They also have Ensaymada, Pan de Coco, Ube Pandesal, Turon, Carioca or Cascaron, different Ube breads, Cheese bread.. you name it (Filipino delicacies, bread, pastries), they have it for sure. I'm happy that I found a filipino food shop in Hawaii that helps me ease homesickness and makes me reminisce great memories back home. Can't wait to come back for more. Yelp
This is always a stop when I do occasional grocery runs at Seafood City. Whole wheat pandesal is constantly in my fridge and I always make sure to get at least one more thing extra. Some of my favorites: * uncle toto's ube cheesecake pandesal: soft bread encases a cream cheese filling, more on the cheesier side * pan de velvet: sweet soft bread encases cream cheese, more on the sweet cream side * ube pastillas bread: sweet and soft bread with a creamy and sugary ube topping This surely is a Pilipina's carb heaven. Grab a number, patiently wait your turn to order, and carbo-load to your heart's delight!

Yelp
Tried the ube cheese pandesal for the first time and it was heavenly! You can really taste the ube flavor. Most bakeries just use purple food coloring then claim that their bread is ube flavored lol. My family loves their pan de coco, but I think I'll be getting the ube cheese pandesal for myself whenever I pop by Seafood City. P.S. Beware of the long line! I went around 4:00 and there were at least 8 people in front of me. There are two cashiers but the line moves kinda slow.

Yelp
Woah, where has this been in my life? I've lived in Hawaii for over 20 years and only now I've learned of this bakeshop that sells a ton of ube pastries. Whaaaat. Their ube pandesals are to die for! It's located in Seafood City Supermarket in Waipahu next to Jollibee. It's a relatively big bakeshop, so it'll be hard to miss. They sell a variety of different baked goods, both pre-baked and freshly baked. For their pre-baked goods, you can grab the items you want and pay straight at the cashier. However, for their freshly baked goods, you MUST pull a number and wait until called in order to be helped. I only recently found out about their ube cheese pandesals through a friend's instagram story. I never had the time until just recently to take a trip to Waipahu for this delicious looking pastry. The ube cheese pandesals are freshly baked pastries so pulling a number is required. They come in a box of 6 (cannot purchase individually, I believe, and they're huge!) for ~$10.50. My friends and I had to wait about ~10-15 minutes for a new batch, and I have to say, they were worth the wait. When I took one bite into the pandesals, I was in love. The hot, fresh bread was incredibly soft with ube and cheese fillings that would melt into your mouth. The mixture of the two fillings made the bread very flavorful. The only downside to me (not even considered one, tbh) was that there was too much cheese to my liking. This is my own preference, and I am definitely not complaining about the generous amount they give. I definitely recommend Valerio's Bakeshop to those who love ube pastries. I've not tried their other pastries, but I bet they're equally delicious. The next time I come, I am definitely going to try their regular ube pandesals along with their other ube products (like the ube Spanish rolls).

Yelp
Come here for the best Ube Cheese Pandesal!!! So yummy!! When you order it, they come hot and fresh. The cheese is so gooey. Be careful it's so hot. I live far from here so I can only come once in a while but it's worth it!! Plenty parking. They are located inside Seafood City.
