Yelp
My first Texas winery. This place reminded me of a few wineries that I've visited in "non winery" areas. It looks like a store with a few tables and you basically "belly-up" to a bar for a tasting.
The pros - the wine wasn't actually that bad (we have dry red taste) so the five pours were wines that we would typically try - nothing super sweet. Monica - the host, was very nice and cute, she appropriately explained the wines and was very personable.
The cons - that Yankee candle! Having taken and passed a variety of wine and sommelier classes, one thing you know is that you shouldn't spray perfume/cologne or do anything that could potentially effect the wine "experience". However, at Valley Mills, they had a "kitchen spice" candle burning right next to the tasting area. Every "wine" I smelled, smelled like.....you guessed, kitchen spice! If the winery smells bad...fix it - if the bathroom smells, put the candle there! - rant over.
other con - while Monica was super nice to us, she was very negative about other wineries and places. For instance, we discussed going to Red Caboose after - she told us, "you probably won't like it - that other couple just came from there and hated it - all they have are sweet wines". That is just one example - just puts a bad taste in your mouth hearing someone talk negatively about others.
The tasting is $10 for 5 pours. Pours are relatively generous.
