On a Trip Through Sicily, Old Secrets and New Surprises

"Our destination is Agrigento, off Sicily's southern coast, Peppe's hometown and the site of an ancient architectural wonder known as the Valley of the Temples. The Temple of Juno, built around 450 B.C., is one of the best-preserved monuments in Sicily’s Valley of the Temples, a complex of statues, structures, and burial grounds constructed during the ancient Greek occupation of southern Sicily."

"It's a full-day excursion from Palermo to visit the Valley of the Temples at Agrigento, but the trip is well worth it. This UNESCO World Heritage Site has no fewer than eight Doric-style Greek temples that date back to the 5th century B.C.E. The Temple of Concordia is the most spectacularly intact, while the huge Temple of Olympian Zeus was one of the largest Greek temples in antiquity. Aqueducts, mosaics and Christian necropolises can also be seen at the archaeological site."

Surely one of the most significant and popular archaelogical sights in Sicily. A very unique experience that you need more than a day to fully discover. So many interesting features along this walk, not a difficult trek, easier if you start at the upper temple by taking the taxi from the parking area and work your way back down to it.

We went there early morning, before the tour groups arrived. It's a beautiful site and quite interesting to see the ruins of all the temples. You can park your park at one of the two parkings. Either you walk around the site back and worth (it took us 2h); or you can take a taxi/shuttle to the other entry and walk through the site and back to your car.

An unforgettable archaeological site with beautifully preserved Greek temples set in a stunning landscape of olive and almond trees. The paths are well marked and easy to walk, and there are plenty of spots to pause and enjoy the views. Plan at least two to three hours to explore, especially if you want to catch the temples glowing at sunset. Absolutely worth the visit.

The Valley of the Temples is absolutely worth a visit, with beautifully preserved temples and sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. It’s a long walk, plan for at least three hours, so be sure to bring plenty of water and wear comfortable shoes. We recommend going in the late afternoon when the sun begins to set; the light makes the ruins even more striking and it’s cooler to explore. If you’d like more background, there’s an audio guide available for extra details. It can feel a bit expensive for what it is, but the history and atmosphere make it a memorable experience.

The temples are in remarkable good condition and you can get right up close. I recommend having a look at the village, it means a bit of a walk from the temples, but thoroughly worth doing both. BTW you can get water/ refreshments on site, there is a really nice cafe serving drinks, food and gelato etc...

This was an amazing place. We found the parking easy to navigate and right near the entrance. We bought our tickets before and entrance was easy. We did not use a guide or audio but just walked around and googled anything we needed to know or hadn’t read before. The history is out of this world and we felt amazed by it all. We went late afternoon so the heat wasn’t too bad. Amazing place!

Awesome to see a structure that was built years and generations ago that still stand until today, and we can see how majestic it is. Of course enow it is like a deserted place with a bit of remaining structure, but for those interested in history and culture, this is another MUST VISIT place when in Sicily island, and I came from Palermo with private transfer that was so comfortable and enjoyable. For me it is a once in a lifetime experience, fulfilling my wish list of must see places.

Words can’t describe the feelings here! No1 destination in whole Sicily. Many people will tell you to visit at night to avoid heat but trust me you should definitely go early in the morning to feel the magic!
