On a Trip Through Sicily, Old Secrets and New Surprises

"Our destination is Agrigento, off Sicily's southern coast, Peppe's hometown and the site of an ancient architectural wonder known as the Valley of the Temples. The Temple of Juno, built around 450 B.C., is one of the best-preserved monuments in Sicily’s Valley of the Temples, a complex of statues, structures, and burial grounds constructed during the ancient Greek occupation of southern Sicily."

"It's a full-day excursion from Palermo to visit the Valley of the Temples at Agrigento, but the trip is well worth it. This UNESCO World Heritage Site has no fewer than eight Doric-style Greek temples that date back to the 5th century B.C.E. The Temple of Concordia is the most spectacularly intact, while the huge Temple of Olympian Zeus was one of the largest Greek temples in antiquity. Aqueducts, mosaics and Christian necropolises can also be seen at the archaeological site."

After multiple trips to Sicily this year, I finally had the chance to visit this incredible place. Despite a rainy week, the skies cleared, and I arrived early to avoid crowds. The peaceful atmosphere allowed me to fully explore the park in just over two hours. The history and beauty of the site are truly remarkable. Even when I left, it was still quiet. Highly recommend visiting if you get the chance!

Amazing experience. We did not have a tour guide or the audio guide, instead relying on Google and Wikipedia. We still found it amazingly informative and moving. The structures, and the history behind them, we're readily accessible. It made a historical period I'm not super familiar with (Greek colonization of Sicily) come alive.

Breathtaking views to the coastline. The temples are magnificent as well! Place takes less than 2 hours to check it out. There are a total of 3 temples (hit or miss), it’s pretty cool to walk around the ancients street surrounded by the beautiful olive trees as well as walnut trees while in bloom (February).

The park covers a fairly large area. There are views of the city and the sea. There is a charge for using the car park, which is closed by a barrier. The fee can currently be paid at a ticket machine on the way out. At the entrance to the park there is an airport access system with a security guard. Once you get through you can buy a ticket or show the one you bought online. There is a toilet at the entrance. The park is very warm even in October. There is not much shade. Bring water and a hat! There is no shopping inside, but there is a water tap where you can drink and fill a bottle. You can also bring your dog. If you are passing through, these ruins are well worth a visit.

Amazing historical site. Let your imagination run wild with these archeological structures! Honored for this opportunity to experience the magnificence and extravagance of BC times. Excellent signs in various languages, pet friendly, clean Park and facilities. Definitely need at least a half day to appreciate!

A huge park area with ancient temples. I felt like I had completely plunged into ancient history. The Temple of Heracles has an incredible energy. There is an Igor Mitoraj’s sculpture near the Temple of Concordia 👏 Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to explore the entire park—it’s better to plan for a full day and bring a hat and water This is truly an amazing historical treasure and a gem of Sicily, a must-visit spot!✅

We could see the ruins as we drove up to it and that got everyone excited. We bought the combo ticket for the ruins and the museum up the street for €20. The ruins are protected but you can climb on some of the old walls and fallen stones. We had 2 hours to spend there and that passed by too quickly. Wish we had another hour at least. They do have a small shuttle for €4 per person for those with mobility issues.

Absolutely unmissable if you are anywhere near Agrigento. The remains of the temples are exceptional, the views are incredible... this was a tick off the bucket list and I highly recommend a visit. The walk is moderately easy (there is a shuttle for those who need it). One of the best places to visit in the whole of Sicily.
