San Francisco’s Cellarmaker Is Closing Its SoMa Brewery and Moving Production to Berkeley - Eater SF

"According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Daly City’s Val’s Restaurant and Lounge will close its doors for good at the end of the year. The old-school steakhouse has been around since the 1950s serving prime rib and veal parmigiana." - Lauren Saria

Customer service was great That's why I gave it three stars. As far as the food was not impressed I ordered my steak medium It came out well done and charred and crispy My wife ordered the black and red snapper which was also over seasoned and dry. Other than that it was okay but I will never get a steak here again.

Updated review: Val's is crowded again. Back when the pandemic was raging, I was the only customer in there. There's now a 15 minute wait for a table. Tonight I had the prime rib, regular cut $36. The food here is good. I enjoyed it more than the last place I went to. The service here was lacking because it was so crowded. My waiter disappeared after my food arrived. The busser refilled my water on a regular basis. I needed more au jus. Luckily the busser was able to help me. Good job staff at Val's. Original review: We are glad Val's is opened for indoor dining again. (8/4/2021) We had the onion soup, pancetta shrimp, prime rib and southern fried chicken. Service was as expected and their cocktails weren't bad. There weren't that many people having dinner but the bar was full. We chose to eat in the bar room instead of the main dining room because of the televisions. The Olympics were on and it was nice to have something in the background. The only minor nit was the southern fried chicken. When I bit into the drumstick, a bunch of oil exploded and some of it fell onto my shoes. They were limited Jun Takahashi x Nike. I'm kind of upset about having this weird oil stain on my shoes.

We came to Val’s on a Tuesday evening and had a great time! We sat in the bar, where they had piano-accompanied open mic night (the woman playing the piano was amazing!) Definitely seemed like they have a lot of regulars who come for this every week who were all having a great time. It was very entertaining to watch and a bunch of the people were actually great singers. Our waitress was fantastic, super fun. We got our drinks very quickly and they were all strong. Food was classic American comfort food, and the mashed potatoes especially were amazing.

Super cute cozy restaurant. Gives off a very retro vibe. The bar looked gorgeous and it seemed rather spacious. The food was good. I enjoyed the dish I got. I would say I wish I got a steak but I was trying to be fake healthy. I will most definitely go again when I can. The only thing I would say is that the calamari was pretty salty but I still enjoyed it especially the sauce! Plus side there is a small parking lot. Which is great I was able to find parking easily and get in and out without a problem. Also it seemed like a great place to take your kids as well!

Food on the menu was falsely advertised. Out of bread, out of potatoes, out of wedge salad, no burgers, no French dip. Waiting 30 mins for a coke, no salad delivered, shrimp appetizer with french fries??!!

Nice Old school restaurant. My coworker has talked about this place for the last three years I worked in his department. He is old school too about 77 years old. I was there super early 4pm So I tried the burger very good. I will go back for dinner sometime.

Order 2 crab and shrimp grilled sandwiches for $21.and some change to go and was shocked when I got home. The lettuce was old and brown, look at pics. Extremely overpriced! Way to much celery. Wasn't worth the visit.

I can't recommend this place at all I'm afraid. The service we received here was truly shocking and by far and away the worst service I've received in any place whilst visiting the United States. After arriving at 8.30pm, we were initially ignored by the waiting staff and stood for around 5 minutes waiting to be seated until an older lady came over and gave us menus. At this point a waitress took notice of us. I believe the older lady was perhaps the owner. We ordered drinks which arrived promptly and then we were asked for our order. One of the members in our party has a wheat intolerance and so we asked if they did any options on the menu that were gluten free. Shelley (the waitress) told us "No. We're a steak house, we don't do anything vegetarian". We were completely bemused at this as you can imagine! Nonetheless, we went on to place our orders and sat waiting patiently. Another member of our party had a clear view of the kitchen and serving areas and when our plates were put out ready to be served, he witnessed Shelley take food off one of our plates and eat it! I find this to be completely unacceptable and had I witnessed it personally, I would have been in a state of disbelief. In fairness and in testament to the ability of the chef, the food was good quality, hot and presented reasonably well, but the whole eating experience was marred by extremely poor service. Never have I experienced such rude and abrupt service and poor manners at an eating establishment in the US and it was a bad start to our visit to the Bay area.
