From Carol: I had the best first experience with this deli on 10/14 in the late afternoon. The owner/manager was so refreshingly warm, welcoming and funny. She made me feel like a friend right away. I simply had a delicious cup of chili, but we talked, laughed and shared 'full moon' (inside joke) stories. The food was awesome and I'll be coming back often with friends and family. Great job! Love this place!

Google
Good corned beef sandwich. Very good service. Bobbie was the waitress. She was very quick to get everything out. Mushroom barley soup was good. Not the best I’ve ever had. Price was reasonable for soup and half sandwich Over all a very good little deli. I will come back.

Google
Food is crack. Owners & staff are great. Definitely would love to be back. Top quality and service. Always will be back. Zip Bites and Zip Fries are my favorite. Pasta is amazing too

Delicious, friendly, fast, clean all the things you want from a good Deli. Love this place!

Since I’m on a limited diet, I carefully selected my dinner. I ordered the stuffed cabbage, mashed potatoes with gravy on the side and green beans. The dinner arrived with no gravy and the stuffed cabbage was incredibly sweet. I could not eat the stuffed cabbage and the potatoes were too dry. The only part of my dinner I could eat was the green beans. We took a carry out container of the stuffed cabbage. I spoke to the waitress about the dinner and she sarcastically said, “You ate the dinner” (the dinner was in the carry out) I asked her if it was always this sweet and told me it was a popular dinner. She said it was sweet because they put artificial sweetener in the food and walked away. It might have been more acceptable if at least the waitress tried to understand. Very very disappointing. My first time going out to eat in several Months so you can image how disappointed I was.

I have been coming here for several years now. Granted its a Sunday with 5 empty tables. We watched a 6 top sit down, same time and not only be served, the owner came out 4 times to deliver food. Looks like not only will the waitstaff receive a poor tip, its questionable if we will come back.

Google
Since I can’t leave a zero. Paid in full for a meal that was horrible. Wanted to cancel carryout portion. Was told I couldn’t asked for manager lady claimed to be manager. Would do anything regarding carryout portion. Asked for owner lady claimed to be owner. Paid entire bill- leaving carryout and walked out. Rude and unprofessional AVOID at all costs. Stage and pickles and Rye are just down the street

Yelp
Small deli located in Crosswinds Mall at Lone Pine and Orchard Lk Rd. On a recent visit I ordered a corn beef on onion roll w/mustard. The lean beef was warm and moist and of top quality. A bit expensive at $17 but worth every penny. Also tried the potato salad at $6 which was very good. This is a clean and humble operation. Deli service was fast and efficient. The decor was sparse with around 8-10 tables. Typical NY style deli that's a splurge but worth it. I'll definitely be back soon.

Yelp
I just stopped at Val's for a late lunch. I did what I normally do, my first time at a new deli; order chopped liver. Although I love smoked meats like pastrami, etc., dishes like chopped liver and kishke, for example are better indicators of culinary skill and authenticity. Val's chopped liver is excellent and the service was very haimish. Unfortunately, Val's will remain a destination for me only when I'm flying solo. There was nothing on the menu for my vegan wife.

Yelp
I love Val's for deli in West Bloomfield. The deli meats are perfect, but I usually go for the queen sandwich. It's enough to feed a normal person 2x over or more. Salads are great, and ordering ahead is the move. Great tater tots. We like bringing in their soups to eat for later. Service is standard, and the space is comfortable and quiet for conversations. I like being here a lot, and I look forward to going to Val's when I'm in town. 5/5 we love you Val's

Yelp
Yum! Excellent corned beef sandwich, amazing gazpacho, tuna melt was on point. Val's is consistently delicious. Definitely a staple.

Eric C.

Yelp
3 tables filled. 3 servers. Not busy. Ordered soup and sandwich .partner ordered omelette and hash brown. After 25 minutes, Soup never came. Ordered turkey off bone. Was CLEARLY deli turkey, server confirmed it was off bone anyway. Hash browns had large long hair on it. Lost appetite. Sent back. Poor service, negligent order, not clean.

Martin W.

Yelp
Great deli and service especially the soups and salads or soups and 1/2 sandwiches at reasonable ( for delis) prices.
google avatar

Julie G.

Yelp
Since when is egg salad more than steak per pound. Ask Val.. great way to scare away customers

Yelp
Small deli/diner. Great for lunch. Hot and cold salads, solid selection. Very nice staff!

Yelp
I stopped in this restaurant because I arrived at my Pilates class too early. When I walked in I was seated by a very nice gentleman. The waitress shows up very impatient with me asking do I need a minute and I had not even had a menu yet. Mind you this is my first time here. I ordered a coffee , patty melt and fries. Everything was going great until another waitress comes to my table to take my salt and pepper shaker to give to another table outside. There were several empty tables she could have gotten a salt and pepper shaker from. She then noticed I looked at her and she says "you don't need this do you". Very annoyed I shook my head no. The gentleman who seated me saw what happened and brought me a salt and pepper shaker to my table and apologized for her. I also told my waitress what I had encountered and she seemed unbothered. I would come back for the food but the way I was treated so insignificantly turns me off to never come back and spend my hard earned dollars for this. When I went to the cash register to pay. The waitress told me she was rushing. I said she made me feel insignificant and like I was invisible. The waitress brushed off my concerns. I would find another restaurant to patronize.

Yelp
There is a wonderful young lady who appears to be in charge of most of the take-out orders at Val's. In a short time, she has learned my name and order preferences. She provides wonderful service with a smile and keeps me coming back. Couple her lovely demeanor and service with Val's amazing food (stuffed cabbage and brisket are out of this world!) and you have an amazing take-out dining experience!

Yelp
Our waitress was fantastic, and the food was delicious as always. The portions are generous, ensuring great value. We were very satisfied with our experience, and we'll definitely be back for more!

Yelp
chicken soup hit the spot excellent seasonings. Enjoyed the sesame chicken and their brownies are 5 star

Carole L.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick lunch and was delightfully surprised. It was around 1:30 in the afternoon and the restaurant was still packed with diners. I was able to grab a table and after deliberating, I went with my standby which is a BLT. I also had an order of onion rings. This sandwich was huge and served with two pickles. The basket of onion rings was plentiful and piping hot. Both the sandwich and the rings were delicious. My glass of soda was filled constantly, so A+ on the service. I did notice they had a hot bar in the back that had some ready-made food to go. I will try that on my next visit.
google avatar

Rita G.

Yelp
I am definitely late to the party, didn't realize that this was more than just a great carry out spot. Delicious cabbage soup and OG Reuben. Not cheap but you can taste the quality ingredients. Great family service. Wish I took pictures of the food but we ate everything super fast. The sandwich is big and can easily satisfy two people.
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
Came in to pick up food to go. Val the owner is very friendly, gave us a taste of sesame chicken and chicken wing while we waited in the lobby for our food to be ready. The waiter is also very friendly, he gave us water. The whole experience is amazing, so much love by giving us free bite and drink without asking anything in return. Restaurant is clean, everyone seems to enjoy their food very much.

Yelp
Great spot for deli in West Bloomfield. We loved the outside seating, the service was amazing, and the food was solid too. Today we shared the chicken salad platter and the delicatessen salad. The salad was plentiful, though more meat would've been welcome. The chicken salad was "ok" but the cucumbers and tomatoes that came with it were fresh. And the challah was very good. It also came with a side of skinny slaw (this was my favorite part of the meal). I liked the skinny slaw so much that I ordered a container to go to have with lunches this week. Definitely will be back again. Great local deli.

Yelp
Where to start - walked, nobody to seat, had to go the cash register and talk to a kid on his phone...and then tell him where I was sitting. Table was dirty...and to ask to fully clean it...Coffee was in a big cup, so that was good...got the menu, and called the bank for a loan!! Order three items, a side item and fruit...the bill was $75, for two omelets (mine was cooked like a flat frittata, was overcooked), a salad with tuna, fruit side and three coffees...I mean, a dinner in a reasonably nice restaurant is $75-$80...and I'm talking about BREAKSFAST...outrageous, if you as me. The MOST expensive Deil in our Detroit suburban area...and the last time.

Stephen W.

Yelp
Worst deli experience of my life. Food wasn't edible and when we raised our concerns they dismissed in a rude fashion. Wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy.

Yelp
As someone who's a fan of Deli's, I was recommended this location by a close friend of mine to try out. It's located in a strip mall with loads of other businesses and I was excited to try this place out. While not the cheapest (or most expensive) deli in the area, I checked it out while doing stuff on this side of town. Their menu isn't huge, but decent none the less. I couldn't decide what to get, so I went with the hot Pastrami with gravy and mashed potatoes. I also got a sprite and water to go with it. The food here was average at best. I can't say I loved it, but I didn't hate it either. Food portions are good for the price, but again, not anything I loved. Staff here was great, and I had no issues as they were attentive and did a fabulous job. Overall, not bad just average.
google avatar

Tanya T.

Yelp
Adorable deli that we loved! I have only been once for lunch but plan to be back to try breakfast as well. Very friendly and attentive staff, clean and most importantly, delicious food. We loved our classic Ruben that is definitely large enough to share, and the mushroom barley soup. We will definitely be back again.
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
Val's can be crowded and noisy but that's because everyone feels at home and taken care of. Great ( I mean GREAT) soups, salads, sandwiches. Portions are too big for normal people. My wife and often split a soup and salad.

Marcy S.

Yelp
I love their food so much! The zip sauce pasta is out of this world! It's plenty for both lunch and dinner and breakfast.

Stephanie B.

Yelp
It's just ok. Food is a bit overpriced when there are better delis down the road. Not somewhere we are rushing back to but other may enjoy it more
google avatar

Natasha V.

Yelp
You know I've had steak ALL over the world, but this Filet Mignon was the BEST that I've ever had. Val should win the James Beard Award for it! The texture was like butter. As soon as the meat hit my tongue and I felt the texture, I knew I was different. The flavor was perfect, just amount of grill on the outside, yet remarkably soft inside. The meat melted inside my mouth, not immediately, it gave a beautiful exquisite chew. My eyes literally rolled back into my skull! It was better than.....yes, it's that good! Beautiful flavor, beautiful color, and he served it with delicious onions and a variety of perfectly cooked peppers! I am stunned because the food is very good, but to get Filet Mignon that is mind blowing from a wonderful family restaurant is rare. I guess Val's is a rare gem, located in the wonderful community of West Bloomfield. Wow!.
google avatar

Doug R.

Yelp
Very good Reuben. But the $15.37 price ... cough, cough. LOTS of corned beef. Very good corned beef. Nice upscale-ish space.

Josh T.

Yelp
I understand that restaurants get busy - no problem. But when taking orders of people after we got in, and asked multiple times for a waitress to come take our order and get a response of "we know they're here", thinking we didn't hear it. Busy restaurant makes it hard for service - but no need to be rude when we're here to support the business. Won't again.
google avatar

Jeff L.

Yelp
The service was good. The corned beef hash was ok. The lox and cream cheese was great from what I heard. The cheese blintz was gods and the blueberry topping was amazing. It is a little on the pricey side though.

Steve G.

Yelp
Unassuming but well-stocked deli selections. Hudson's Maurice Salad was spot-on. Save room for dessert.
google avatar

Paul G.

Yelp
Great food. Would recommend highly. It beats the pants of off most deli's in our area
google avatar

John I.

Yelp
This is THE place to go for all of your deli needs. Fresh and delicious food for a reasonable price. It's conveniently located on Orchard Lake Road and it's newly renovated. Definitely stop by and grab some great food.

Yelp
We're in town for Thanksgiving with my wife's family. Thanksgiving dinner was with one side. So we met her dad's family for lunch today. We were 7 people. The one, who is a Val's regular, loves the place because the omelet he gets every week is huge. Frankly that has stopped being an endorsement for me. My wife got a Dinty Moore, a local favorite sandwich type I've never been a fan of. I got the soup and half sandwich combo and an iced tea. First, nothing had much in the way of flavor. The iced tea was weak. The kreplach soup may have been made in a kitchen where there was a chicken at some point, but I'm confident that none of it contaminated the soup. The kreplach itself was very tasty. I'm also lucky that the combo only has a half sandwich. I chose the "rare roast beef." It was not remotely rare, and the sandwich had nothing on it: no lettuce, no tomato, no mustard, nothing. That might have been nice to know. I couldn't get out fast enough. Unfortunately for me, I fear we'll be back next year because they have such large portions.

Jake L.

Yelp
The Reuben is awesome and extremely filling. The potato knish was also good. We went late and we were initially told they were out of potato knish, but the owner overheard this and made a knish just for us. The chicken rice soup and French fries are also very good. Expect great deli food and a lot of it!
google avatar

Bryan B.

Yelp
Val's Deli is a bright spot in the WB area. We have ordered multiple times for lunch at work and the quality is there. It goes toe to toe with all my favorite local deli's in the area. More impressive was there additional items to the menu outside of deli choices. They have daily a counter of hot food lunch/dinner choices. I have had the stuffed turkey burger it's A +. The Pasta Palomino was UNREAL. It's a HUGE portion easily can satisfy two ppl. It's comes with your choice of soup or salad. People need to try Val's! You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Blair S.

Yelp
Val's is definitely worth trying out! Their deli is fantastic. I've never had a bad meal when I've come to Val's. Their soups, salads, and sandwiches are delicious! This is one deli you don't want to pass up!!
google avatar

Ray J.

Yelp
Have had their food over 15 times and they are consistent on food, quality, and service. The owner is a hard worker who provides speedy service. They offer the best Turkey chili. As well, they have a hot food counter always filled with tasty food.

Harvey R.

Yelp
Great Service Great Food We use their carry out service as our private chef. food is tasty and always prepared well

Betty L.

Yelp
Salads are huge but lots of lettuce and not much else. The soups I've tried have been good. Just ok.
google avatar

Mari H.

Yelp
Delicious and fresh! I ordered the Corned Beef sandwich and it's definitely enough for two people. It's stacked. The Hawaiian fries are not on the menu but they will make them (get em'!) The shredded Brussel Sprout salad is over romaine and mixed greens. The chicken noodle soup (carrots, egg noodles, broth) is made perfectly! I will definitely be coming back.
google avatar

Rachel C.

Yelp
The only problem I have when I come here is I want everything and only one tummy! The sandwiches (ask for off the bone turkey), chocolate chip cookies, soups, salads and apps (especially veggie chopped liver are AMAZING. Every time I leave I can not wait to come back to try something else.
google avatar

Tim R.

Yelp
Great soup, great sandwiches, really friendly owner! This is a terrific deli! Just carried out some soup, some latkes and a corned beef sandwich. Excellent!
google avatar

Steven M.

Yelp
This deli is excellent. Some of the best pastrami I've had in the area. The portions are massive and the prices are very reasonable. I loved everything I got. My dad loved his corned beef and tomato sandwich!
google avatar

Scott H.

Yelp
The place is new. It was busy for lunch today (1-9-20). I ordered a corned beef sandwich for carry out. Didn't wait long. The portion of meat is reasonable for the price. Keep in mind Its in a prime location so I'm sure the rent is pretty high. The rye bread was toasted and buttered perfectly. A couple things about the corned beef is that it was a little chewy. And too garlicky. Maybe too much garlic in the brine, not sure but I was burping it up all day . Also, if you want cheese on your sandwich, it's $1. My total just for the sandwich (corned beef, Swiss, and coleslaw) was just under $15. Not bad. I'd go back again to try something else. Good Luck

Joanie S.

Yelp
Everything is fresh and plentiful! Very clean restaurant, nice staff. Prices are very fair . Glad they are in the neighborhood.
google avatar

Kari S.

Yelp
Val's is definitely a go to spot for me. Their deli and food in general is fantastic. I've never been disappointed. Their soups, salads (especially their Maurice), and sandwiches are delicious! A staple in my household.

Leena Y.

Yelp
This place has pretty good food, but what makes it a 3 star place is their service. The waitresses are nice, but they are short staffed. We had to wait for 30 minutes until our order was taken. The creamy zip sauce fries were stale and not very well made. This place needs more servers. I would not go back again due to the service.
google avatar

Ann M.

Yelp
We just ordered from Val's for the first time. During this lockdown period, we wanted to support small local businesses and had heard it was good. We were pretty darned unimpressed with the food and were taken aback with the high cost of the meal. The OG and Reuben sandwiches were pretty good, as were the stuffed cabbage and cole slaw. The BLT tasted good but was falling apart. The broccoli side was cold -- really cold, as though they had just pulled it from the fridge. The matzo ball soup, a specialty of the deli, was totally unseasoned chicken noodle soup with a soggy and tasteless matzo ball on the side. And the potato knish was by far the worst I have ever had -- dry, crumbly, and fairly tasteless. Bottom line -- we were disappointed in much of the food and felt we overpaid significantly. We won't be going back.
google avatar

Brian B.

Yelp
Solid deli with good food and the service was excellent. They are also very flexible on the orders if they are able to do it. I would recommend the omelette a for breakfast. Give this a 4.5 stars and it is on par for sure with Stage and Pickles and Rye. The prices may actually be slightly better. All three are good.

Andrew A.

Yelp
outstanding, I stopped here for the first time and was floored by how good the dinty moore corned beef sandwich was
google avatar

T K.

Yelp
Nice interior, super friendly owner and staff, quality of the food is outstanding. We've tried takeout and catering, both consistently good.
