Phở Bánh Mì - Review - Galleria - Houston - The Infatuation

"A Galleria Food Truck Park regular, Phở Bánh Mì serves casual Vietnamese food and is a necessary pit stop on your way home from work. Unless you have a regular order locked and loaded, you can get a few suggestions from one of the owners. No matter how you choose, make sure it involves a bánh mì lathered in a mayo with sizzling pork strips. The bread maintains a crisp outside and an airy center that is a fitting throne for any filling that makes up your sandwich. Eat your food in your car or have a few bites while you thank the team member who recommended your delicious sando." - Gianni Greene

The Banh Mi here is absolutely delicious—so fresh! The crispy pork filling is outstanding. Their fish sauce is flavorful, and the bone broth is amazing. The Pho they serve has a unique twist, with chewy, tender noodles that stand out. The soup is rich and well-balanced. The spring rolls are packed with delicious filling—I love them! I really enjoy the food here, and so do my kids. They ate a lot! The male owner provides excellent service—he’s enthusiastic and attentive. I highly recommend trying this place. The Vietnamese coffee is slightly less strong compared to other Pho restaurants, but it’s still good!

Excellent banh beo. First thing I notice: texture & crisp when you bite into the warm banh mi bread 👍🏻👍🏻 the butter & pate 5/5 . I did not like the roasted pork/heo quay . It has a smell.

Google
Bánh mì heo quay (Roasted Pork Sandwich) was a great hit. Unique, flavorful & crunchy! Bò Né (Beef Steak Cubes & Eggs), Pho & Bun Bo Hue were very average. We’ve had them better at other places for either slightly cheaper price or more generous portions. They’ve currently stopped serving rice plates & other special dishes. They only accept orders for Banh Mi, Pho & Bun Bo Hue at the moment. Service was quite unpleasant. The server who took our order had an attitude with everyone and raised his voice at the coworker when he asked him something.

Google
Great food. I loved the Bo Ne. Portions were huge and I loved the pate. The bun bo hue was also great. The place was very understaffed but our waitress did her best and gave great service. There were no napkins at the table. The cups, bowls and utensils were not properly cleaned and were slightly dirty. Food was cheap and delicious. Just wipe down the utensil before you eat lol 🤷🏻‍♀️

Google
The place was packed for lunch on Sunday! We initially came in for their hot stone pot pho. The broth was tasty and I loved how the stone pot kept it hot the entire time. I ordered the banh mi Bo ne as well and I would definitely pass on this one. It’s supposed to be steak cubes but it looked like they just used the rare steak for pho lol. Flavors weren’t anything to boast about either. The plain banh mi was perfectly crispy and fluffy. I’ll come back for the pho and to try the banh mi **** I came back for the banh mi and I can say the banh mi is worth coming back. Combination is okay but the heo quay is really good! I recommend the thit nuong as well

Google
Tried their pho, not my favorite Had high hopes for their banh mi heo quay, turns out the bread is good, that's where all the goodness stops at, their heo quay is old, dry and they had some kind of spread that was crunchy and too sweet; there are already too many other solid pho and banh mi places around that makes it not worth it to come back here

Google
Absolutely delicious and bang for your buck! Came here after a six hour tattoo session, so I was hungry! Got the Bo Ne (Baguette with Steak, eggs, Chinese sausages, and vegetables). It absolutely did not disappoint! All that food (pictured below) for $17 (after tax). Absolutely worth it and bang for your buck. Friendly and prompt service, and calm vibe for a relaxing meal. The family sitting next to me ordered pho, and that looked super delicious as well. This place is an absolute must for Vietnamese food enthusiasts!

Yelp
Needed a quick bite to eat for lunch and was craving banh mi. Van Bakery has so many different options! I chose the Banh Mi Heo Quay and it was so good! It is roast pork belly and the skin is super crispy! This makes it taste so good and the crunchiness is very satisfying. The one downside I feel the actual sandwich is on the small side for $7. Still very delicious and I love the variety of choices.

Yelp
I got their roast pork banh mi and it was really good. It was unique and had little crispy pork skin in it but the meat itself was a bit dry. I also liked how they had pickled daikon in the banh mi which I don't think I see much of at other places. The service was quick and the workers were nice. I ordered it to go and it was still good when I got home.

Yelp
Flavor on that banh mi heo quay 10/10 for houston area. I think it's the BEST banh mi heo quay in Houston. The skin is still crunchy and the meat is still soft. The veggies are plentiful. I've been searching and hoping to find it as close to the banh mi heo Quay in Vietnam but it's never gonna be that good in Texas but this is second best. Give it a try. You won't regret it.

Yelp
I came here an hour and 15 mins before closing time (8pm) and they rudely told me they are going to close soon so carry out is a better option. We opted to stay anyway and confirmed that we would eat quickly. They bought our food from next door which is very strange. The guy literally walked outside and came back in with our food. The only thing that came from their kitchen is the banh mi. The food is ok but the customer service is horrible and it's odd to have the food made elsewhere like that and brought in. I definitely will not be back.

Yelp
A great banh mi shop here in Houston. If are this side of the town, defiantly stop by here for food. The banh mi bread is big and has good texture and flavor, the really pack a lot in the banh mi too. And another good thing is they take credit card here. Most of the workers here can speak English. The restaurant looks clean. They did not have the AC on but just box fans running, so it feel it is pretty hot in the restaurant.

Yelp
Credit card payment accepted The service was great and when one of our diners requested no onion and no cilantro on a few dishes, the diner was heard. As for the food chefs kiss. Portions are pretty big here. Egg rolls seasoned well and crispy Banh beo is a wet topping my favorite. And the size is not your average tiny little ones. Bò Né - sizzling beef & egg plate flavorful and tender meat and some lap xuong (Chinese sausage) We mentioned we are sharing it as group appetizer, they brought us enough bread/pate/vietnamese mayo to be shareable. Pho portion looks generous. One diner got tripe, but the tripe flavor over powered the broth. I was recommended Bánh Đa Cua (new item off the menu) You can have an option of stone pot bowl or regular bowl. It's a very comforting and rich pork, crab, tomato broth filled with lots of toppings. It's a popular dish in the U.S. but here's a better breakdown of it. https://www.fifteen.net/recipes/banh-da-cua/ Overall I would come back I love the options I can get if I want banh mi, rice plate, or soup.

Yelp
Visiting any Vietnamese Banh Mi restaurant off Bellaire Blvd, competition is amazing for us consumers. It makes Banh Mi elevated to another level, the minor changes a restaurant can make, can be a big deal in a competitive Banh Mi market. The banh mi xiu mai, is one of the best I've had off Bellaire and I am now a return customer. Yes, my favorite restaurant is, Don Deli Banh Mi but now, I don't think Don or even Lee Sandwich can compare. -better crispier bread -fresh inside soft bread, pillowy -big cuts of daikon and carrots (great idea, you can taste the freshness of each vegetable, like pickle on them, I prefer the bigger cuts) -fresh meat ingredients, love how the xiu mai are big chunks of meat balls This restaurant does not skimp out on meat and I love it. Big meats, big vegetables, big long banh mi rolls. Pate is very pronounced and I love it.

Yelp
Fast and friendly service Cleanliness Good portion and quality A bit steep on price however (most places are charging +$15 which I find a bit ridiculous not just this place) I also tried their heo quay banh mi which was pretty good. I believe its buy 5 get 1 free.

Yelp
so this place is off the beaten path of china town bellaire but it's worth it!!! i think it's one of the best combination banh mi sandwhich i've had in a long time! i ordered to go, veggies on the side, no toast. i toasted at home and it's still just as tasty as if it was just made by VBM and Pho. They are generous on the pate and butter. Good amount of meat to bread ratio. There's a hidden surprise sausage in there that elevates the dish but i won't give it away! you have to try for yourself! There's also meat floss inside which is something new for me! I also had the thit nuong (grilled pork) banh mi and it was tasty as well! definitely coming back for more!!!

Yelp
I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon after hearing about this place earlier in the week at work. It is located in an older shopping center on Beechnut and the parking lot was packed. I walked in and the restaurant was busy but not packed. We were greeted and shown to a seat promptly. I ordered a bánh mì đặc biệt, bánh mì bò nướng, chả giò and bánh bèo Huế. The chả giò (Vietnamese Egg rolls) were good. Crispy and the pork inside was juicy and tasted great. The bánh mì đặc biệt was packed with meat and veggies and there was a generous amount of patê. It tasted very good. The bread was not as crispy as I like but not bad. The bánh mì bò nướng was also very good. The meat was tender and flavorful. It was one of the better tasting bánh mì bò nướng as far as the meat goes. The star of the show for me was the bánh bèo Huế! Bánh bèo is a steamed rice cake with dried shrimp, ground mung beans , diced crisp pork rinds, and scallions. This is not a dish I find on many menus, so I had to order it because I really like it. This bánh bèo did not disappoint at all. I added a spoonful of nước chấm, pried it out of the dish and gobbled it down. It was magnificent! I would definitely come back for that. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was typical of most Vietnamese restaurants I've been to where people are friendly but busy, so do not expect long conversations from the staff. However the waiter was very polite and helpful when I asked him a few questions about the menu. I did try to order bánh mì phá lẩu but they were out. Next time I will come earlier. I am also interested in trying the bún bò Huế and bò né next time I come by.

Yelp
Pho dac biet - excellent bowl of pho with unique noodles and high quality meat. Roast pork banh mi - a tad too crispy on the meat for me but still yummy. I like my roast pork softer and more flavor of the Chinese 5 spice. Meatball banh mj - unique saucy flavor with lots of umami. 5 star

Yelp
I'm always on a hunt for a good banh mi spot. This place is pretty legit. The bread to meat ratio is good. The bread was perfectly crunchy and the thit nuong was marinated very well. They did not skimp on the butter. Id def visit again

Yelp
This is my first time at this place and this has to be my favorite banh mi place. The pork belly and dac biet sand which was the best sand which I've had and believe me.... I've had my fare share of banh mi's. This is my new favorite banh mi shop!
google avatar

Yelp
Great for adults. The pate was a little spicy which I don't mind. I don't think my kids would like the spicy pate. The filling were a lot in the banh mi that we ordered to go. It was buy 5, get 1 free. We ordered 3 thit nuong and 3 dac biet banh mi. I will definitely come back for the banh mi. I like that the daikon and carrots were cut a bit larger than other places.

Yelp
Nice but not always clean. Various choice. Servers doesn't learn the menu very well.

Yelp
I see what the hype is all about now! Their Heo Quay Banh Mi is so delicious!! Very meaty and crunchy!! Go early because they sell out fast!!

Yelp
Super casual and great place to get some vietnamese staples. I highly recommend the heo quay banh mi (roasted crispy pork)! The bread is so good and must be baked in-house. Perfectly crunchy on the outside and airy soft on the inside. They do not skimp on the heo quay either, it was LOADED. Plenty of tables and quick service.

Yelp
I am going to be honest, their bun bo hue was horrible, but i have had their pho and it was great. Their service was phenomenal, the staff were extremely nice. I tried to doctor up the Bun bo hue but it was no use, the flavor was just not there. I am still giving this establishment 5 stars because of their service and the pho I had before.

Yelp
Great crusty banh mì and crispy pork. Would prefer more spice to the sandwich like a sambal. My new favorite find

Yelp
Their grill pork sandwich ( banh mi heo quay) is delicious, I'm a big fan of that sandwich. Services are fast and professional, buy 5 get 1 free.

Yelp
VÂN BÁNH MÌ is located at 1169 Beechnut St Ste. L, Houston, TX 77072 - Next to BÁNH CUỐN HOA. With Vietnamese food dishes: Pho Da Da, Beef Vermicelli, Vermicelli Soup, Shrimp Paste Vermicelli, Bo Lottery Leaf Rice Cake, Roasted Pork Cake, Crab Hot Pot... especially BREAD just like in Saigon Gon - Vietnam that we once ate... a ticket back to our homeland, Vietnam.

Yelp
Service was ok. Ambiance was a little of chaos when servers run around to take order, or when foods come out. I am not a big fan of thố đá, so i am fine with the regular bowl. I ordered bánh đa cua đồng.. In my opinion, I didn't taste much cua đồng flavor, but they gave alot of toppings, not enough noodles though. BBH was acceptable, beef shanks was tender. I also ordered bánh mì gà ( forgot to take a pic lol) bánh mì itself was good, similar to Vietnam bánh mì. The chicken meats inside was little salty to my taste, and the homemade sauce was a bit on the sweet side, overall bánh mì was good. Definitely come back to try other bánh mì options.

Yelp
The bread alone is nice but the instructions that I gave didn't apply. I was specific about asking for no cucumber extra cilantro and jalapenos, I didn't get that. What I got was cucumbers. The pate and whatever sauce was a bit sweet. The egg rolls was alright. The goi cuốn was roll very sloppily huge and didn't look nice. Lee sandwich still is my favorite.

Emily A.

Yelp
Banh me was good until I seen the lady that made it touch her feet... and put socks on, and a young man with glasses at the register pick his nose and then handed out a drink... lost my appetite, over all nice employees

Yelp
Came here with my daughter and sister for a quick lunch. I had the popular roast pork banh mi previously and wanted to try something else. My sister and I opted to try the Bo Ne while my daughter got the com thit nuong. The ca phe sua da is really good here and has such a smooth flavor as you are drinking it. While waiting for the food the service is better than other Vietnamese restaurants. Had multiple staff check on us if we had order or needed anything else. The only thing I will say about the restaurant is that it is compact together. Tables are really close with not much wiggle room from your table to the next. The Bo Ne arrives sizzling with a toasty bread, salad, pate and butter. The salad has a different dressing than other restaurant. Can't say I was a fan nor did I dislike it. The plate looks amazing with Chinese sausage, egg, whole cloves of garlic and onions. Meat is chewy and the sauce was alright. This is a dish I will skip and stick to my familiar place for Bo Ne. My daughter Com Thit Nuong looks and tasted good, however the soup that accompany the dish was salty. Again another dish I may not get in the future from here. Overall I paid about $60 for: 2 - Bo Ne 1 - com thit nuong 1 - ca phe sua da 1 - Banh mi heo quay 1 - Banh mi thit nuong 1 - Banh mi dac bite Prices are not bad and I will probably stick to what they are known for.

Yelp
Food was amazing the place is cute clean and service was great. This was my first time but again a friend took me and i will definitely go back soon

Yelp
I had tried so many baguette places. I may concede this is the best one in town! Usually we got baguette from Nguyen Ngo, I guarantee this place would not disappoint you! We will surely come back. Crunchy baguette with plenty of varieties of meat, mayonnaise and pate! So yummy and delicious! On top of that we buy 5 and get one free!

Yelp
A few months ago, I saw this place while driving around in Alief. Today, I thought I would give it a try as I had a craving for banh mi. Although there are plenty of banh mi places in Alief, I didn't find them that good. Today, I went into the restaurant and ordered a banh mi to go. The restaurant was busy, although sometimes when I drive around the area, I never noticed this many cars in the parking lot. I walked up to the counter and ordered a grilled pork banh mi. I waited 7-10 minutes for them to prepare. By the time I got home to eat it, it was still warm. There was plenty of meat in the sandwich and enough pickled daikon/carrots. There were julienned jalapeño pieces in there to give it a little kick. They used a sweet mayo sauce with a little kick in the sandwich also. The banh mi was delicious and I wanted another one after finishing it. Sadly to say, I only bought one this time. They also have other dishes that I thought I would try next time. I finally found a place that has good banh mi. (The other places I like are Nguyen Ngo and Khang Vietnamese Sandwich and Cafe.)
